Gameweek 8 sees the launch of the latest team competition for the Fantasy Football Scout community organised by FFS UEFA. Following the success of last season’s ICC-themed cricket tournament, the group have created FFS Beach Soccer World Cup 2013, with 16 teams, each comprised of 11 players, competing for the crown.

If you’re new to the concept and are wondering just what all the chatter has been about, here’s a link to their site which will help explain matters in a little more detail.

Essentially, the scoring is based around the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game.

Each team started scouting for players (ie, FPL managers) on Sunday, October 6 and the recruitment period will come to a close on Wednesday, October 16, with the roster of team players announced on Thursday, October 17.

The teams are led by a captain and vice-captain and guided by a manager, who decide which seven of their 11 players to field each week – depending on the perceived prospects of their FPL line-ups -and which four to bench. Their overall FPL scores for the Gameweek, with hits taken into account, will form the team’s score that week – by outscoring their opponents, they chalk up a win.

The first match in Gameweek 8 will be no more than a friendly before the main event gets underway the following weekend. This sees the 16 teams compete in four groups of four between Gameweek 9 and 11 – the top two teams from each group will progress to the knockout stages, where sides square up in a head-to-head elimination process from Gameweek 12 until the final in Gameweek 15.       Since you've already used your FT, there's not much I would change. I presonally prefer Paulinho to Eriksen (see my hot topic for why: http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2013/10/03/the-scout-mission-gameweek-7/?hc_page=1#hc_comment_5733701) and I think Sess will be a good pick this year. I also think a Spurs defender (Walker is my choice) would be good long-term if they can continue the defensive form they showed up until the West Ham game.

        Thats what we have done for the most part, however sometimes certain targets get snapped up by other sides. Then there is those who apply to join Japan, I don't like snubbing people. Perhaps thats something Senegal likes to do. Personally I don't like that style and I think everyone deserves a chance.

Any interest in making the Japan v Holland friendly matchplay as well as total score?

We could pair off all players (so allows the bench guys to play as well) and have 11 h2hs to give a matchplay result and a normal result.

Their shame when they lose the main match and the individual matches 11-0...

It would be really awesome if there were more teams, I hate seeing people miss out 🙁 at least there will be 32 teams in next years world cup UEFA competition (assuming its based on the fifa world cup)

    Numbers are always an issue in team events. Less than 200 are involved in this with many disappointed. Individual events like the Cup always works better from numbers but lack the team spirit aspect.

It is understandable that people want to win the competition thus choosing the most consistent players and players with "best teams" and scores.

it is also understandable that people will most probably choose their friends in real life who are also active in ffs and also people that tend to be here a long time.

There are some people though that also want to participate that have not played the game for long time, or do not have the desired time to spend as much time on this site etc etc.

I would suggest that for future competitions 1-2 players from each team should be either "newbies" or their rank is above 400k for example thus giving the chance to these players to participate.

btw my team rank is around 170k and i do not link my team as i do not want my rivals in my cash mini leagues to know what moves i am thinking of doing as they are also reading this website.

I am sure it is pretty obvious i want to participate in the tournament but i do not have a twitter account to send applications to available teams.

let me know if any teams are recruiting

  It is always difficult with numbers, probably why FFS stopped running their own H2H leagues. The problem is, that these are community competitions, and maybe people think that if you haven't posted much then you aren't such an active member of the community. Additionally if you don't have time to post then you probably don't have time to dedicate to the team discussions for this tourni.
  
  FFS Uefa do a great job with these by the way, and the FA Cup game was a great idea for an inclusive as possible competition.

    as i said i really do understand the decision making process but there is always the other side of the coin.
    
    i am referring to my self but i believe my views are shared with other ppl on this site.
    
    especially this year i am spending 1-2 hours on fantasy reading all the articles posted by scouts and many posts by members. i do tend to comment on and off.
    
    a good idea maybe is to host 2-3 tournaments at the same time and having different divisions for example based on rank/hall of fame etc. this would allow more members to participate and maybe the team winning a lower division can qualify for the higher division for the next tournament.

      My comments don't really matter in the grand scheme of things since I am not involved in the organisation of any of this. Those are some interesting ideas though, would likely be very admin-heavy in organisation I would've thought tho.
      
      Even so, no matter how many people a competition can include some people will always be left disappointed, be it 200, 1000, 5000. There are a lot of visitors to this site.

  I've been using this site for years and find it invaluable but I've never posted until now. I've applied to join the Ivory Coast team in the off chance they pick me. So fingers crossed. I'm generally pretty good at fantasy footie (I'm 34th in the HOF) but I'm having a mare this year (around 1.3m). Hopefully not being active on this site won't lessen my chances but I'm sure my current ranking will :-). These side games are good fun and working as part of team for a change can add a different dimension to the week to week FPL play.

The Solomon Islands' history is giving me nothing for a name change. The only real usable info I've found is that their beach soccer team is apparently nicknamed "the Bilikiki Boys".

Therefore for my new Solomon Island-ised name choose one of:
