Aaron Ramsey has recovered from a leg problem and is set to captain Wales this evening. Ashley Williams may be out for the next three league games. Martin Jol concedes Darren Bent may have to accept a role on the bench for Fulham, Ben Foster is still six weeks away from a return, while Newcastle could be set for a defensive boost ahead of a tough run of fixtures:

Ramsey Recovered from Leg Problem

Wales boss Chris Coleman has revealed that Aaron Ramsey was subbed off in Arsenal’s draw at West Brom last weekend due to a leg problem. The Gunners in-form midfielder has now recovered, though, and is in line to captain his country against Macedonia tonight.

“He has got a knock, he came off for Arsenal at the weekend with a dead leg and we have been managing that. He will not train today but we expect him to be available for Friday night.”

The Scout Says: Certainly, the news is somewhat surprising, given that Arsene Wenger failed to mention any problem last Sunday. Ramsey’s owners will be a little relieved, though – it was assumed he was withdrawn on 59 minutes at the Hawthorns for tactical or form reasons after Wenger had shifted him onto the right flank against the midlands outfit. Now, however, it transpires that Ramsey (who had played every minute of the league campaign prior to the 1-1 draw) was only removed as a result of the knock; suggesting his game time looks secure once again ahead of next weekend’s home game with Norwich.

Williams May Face Further Time On the Sidelines

Coleman also took time out to elaborate on Ashley Williams’ ankle injury after the centre-half was ruled out of both Wales’ upcoming matches.

“We scanned him and it was clear he could not play. Michael Laudrup said he had him on the bench at Southampton just as a number, and looking at the injury I can see that he was never going to play. But it was good to have him here and take a look for ourselves. I am not sure when he will be back, but I am not sure he will be back for the next two or three games after this international camp.”

The Scout Says: Williams has now featured in just one of his side’s last six matches in all competitions and if Coleman’s prognosis proves correct, he’s be set to miss back-to-back home games against Sunderland and West Ham, with question marks also hanging over his availability for the Gameweek 10 derby against Cardiff. Given that Ben Davies is also a doubt with a hamstring injury, Chico – highlighted in last night’s members article – looks the more secure route into the Swans backline right now, though with just two clean sheets in the opening seven, Michael Laudrup’s side haven’t been the most resilient at the back thus far.

Jol Hints at Bent Sub Role

Martin Jol has admitted he is struggling to find room for Darren Bent in his starting XI this term. The Fulham boss conceded the on-loan forward may have to become a little more accustomed to game time off the bench as he looks to steer his side up the table:

”I’ve seen him a couple of times and spoken to him, and the conversation was private. I said it would be awful if I don’t use him in a proper way and he will be a good part of things this season. He knows what my intentions are, but it is not my intention to play Berbatov and Bent [together], I have to be honest. Sometimes he can’t start. I was very happy with Bent coming on in the Stoke game. It’s great to have someone like Darren to come off the bench. My intentions are still to use Darren, and to get the best out of both him and Berbatov, but it’s not easy because you need time to work on that system.”

The Scout Says: Despite climbing off the bench to score the winner against Stoke last weekend, Bent has been slow to make an impact at the Cottage. Indeed, Fulham have lost all three games he has started, compared to just one loss in four when he has been omitted from the first XI. Jol’s chopping and changing has clearly affected Dimitar Berbatov’s season so far – having scored 16 times last term, the Bulgarian has yet to open his account as he moves between the lone forward berth and the role in “the hole”. With the pressure on last weekend, though, it was perhaps telling that Jol turned to Berbatov and Bryan Ruiz up top once again, with the duo likely to continue up top as Fulham roll up to Palace a week next Monday evening.

Foster Still Weeks Away from Return

West Brom’s Ben Foster issued an injury update yesterday. The Baggies first-choice stopper admitted that although he’s making good progress from a foot injury, he is still a month-and-a-half away from returning:

“It was always going to take up to 12 weeks. It’s going well and it’s six weeks today since I had the operation. I’ve now just started to put weight on it. “I have been limited in what I can do in the gym since the operation but things should start to pick up again now.”

The Scout Says: If Foster keeps to his schedule, then, he would be expected to return for the Gameweek 12 home derby against Villa. This would see face a potentially profitable run which also see Steve Clarke’s side face Newcastle, Norwich, Cardiff and Hull in the following five fixtures – down to 4.9 in FPL, Foster may arrive back on radars as a result of such a schedule, given that deputy Boaz Myhill has managed a single clean sheet in five since being handed a chance back in Gameweek 3.

Injuries Easing for Magpies

Alan Pardew could be set for a defensive boost in time for Newcastle’s Gameweek 8 home clash with Liverpool. Reports indicate that Steven Taylor and Massadio Haidara are edging towards fitness after recent hamstring and knee problems respectively.

The Scout Says: Whilst Haidara is likely to face a challenge to oust Davide Santon from the left-back berth, Taylor’s chances of returning to the first XI look a little more promising. The centre-half has played just 48 minutes of the season so far as a result of suspension and injury but Alan Pardew has been clearly unimpressed with Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa’s displays of late – subbed off at the break in the Gameweek 6 defeat at Everton, the Frenchman seems to have slipped behind Mike Williamson in the pecking order. An injury-free Taylor could be handed an immediate return alongside Fabricio Coloccini in the heart of defence but with Liverpool, Chelsea and Spurs in the next four, in addition to a Tyne-Wear derby, few will be tempted to invest in the Magpies backline right now.

I've managed so far, but may take the plunge after this first set of games. Yaya is waving at me too, asking why I haven't had him in my team yet this year.

I am also very much tempted to bring in Yaya. He has been magnificent so far and as it seems will continue to be.
Him or Lallana, I am finding it difficult to resist.

I've strapped my legs together to avoid doing anything early.

But for the first time this season I might be happy with playing last week's team again this week. Which is nice.

Dammit, lost at end of last page so reposting as it's something different to talk about:

So, Harry Kane, scores a hat-trick for England Under 21's while Soldado can't score in free play at all - could be an amazing cheap option (4.4) if AVB takes note! 🙂

That's what I thought. Plenty of time to work out what to do on the international break though.

Hard to ignore Lukaku when at home to Hull, no matter how solid the tigers have been at the back!

Looking at Ozil to Walcott at some point (1m saved)

If I did Rooney to Lukaku (2m saved)

Leaves a lot of cash upgrade elsewhere, though I like the squad (see above).

Migs and £4.0 backup, or Boruc and McGregor?

Currently on WC and have the latter pairing with Toure as Liv cover.

However, can swap for Migs and double up on Saints defenders if needs be. Just wondering whether its less distracting to just have Migs and play him every week rather than get rotation wrong.

I have the same dilemma (on a WC too). Had Migs and Boruc but often picked the wrong starter. That said, Mignolet's away fixtures are tough so ideally you'd want some cover. McGregor seems a good option.

Im quite liking the Vorm/McGregor combo. Clyne represents excellent value for Southampton coverage, as does GJohnson (once he's fit) for Liverpool.

    Hello people,

Any tips for what I should do with my 2 free transfers?

Waiting for international injuries, of course, but this is my current line-up:

    Stockdale
    Coleman Wilson Vertonghen
    Oscar Yaya Ramsey Paulinho
    Lukaku(c) Giroud(v) Rooney

    Boruc Moses Kolo Clyne

    2FT. Any ideas welcome...

The ideas I'm working with so far are

    - Moses is probably my biggest issue (fingers crossed with injuries). So I could get rid of him. In which case I could get a midfielder up to 6.5. If so who?

    - I then wouldn't have any Liverpool attack, and regardless I don't have Suarez or Sturridge. I could do Rooney straight to Sturridge, or Rooney to Suarez, and then a replacement for Moses at 6.0 or less...

    - Anything else?

Morning Teddy, how are the connection issues coming?

Probably Moses out. No Pool this week may not be such a bad thing away to Newcastle. Rooney could do as well, then two for next week?

Connection issues persist. Sacked off BT and have Virgin Media installation booked for a week tomorrow.

I think I've missed the boat to some extent with SAS, and credit Rooney with the capacity to get back to scoring ways and perhaps recoup some of those Liverpool points missed over the coming weeks.

So then, who to get as a midfielder for =

Any Barkley love? Roo-Suar, Moses-Bark. I'd be tempted to just do Rooney-Sturridge and carry the transfer over. But Rooney'll score a couple tonight and mock my thoughts.

Barkley's definitely in the running as a Moses replacement. Maybe reluctant to triple up on Everton, but he does look like a prospect.

Surely Stockdale could be out of playing, with Stekelenburg potentially back from injury (if he isn't back then Stekelenburg will have surgery so out for even longer). Would wait and see what happens in that scernario, as I imagine Fulham will be wanting Stekelenburg back asap with Stockdale failing to impress

If you looking for another premium defender then go with a Chelsea one, probably JT but Luiz is starting to become regular so consider him as well

I wouldn't let rooney go with his next 3 fixtures, your front line is good so i'd leave it alone. Plus with most other teams having either one or both of Sturridge/Suarez then you'll do well if Liverpool blank and Utd & Arsenal score.

That's what I was thinking with the forwards.

Chelsea defender is a good shout. I think Luiz would indeed be a good pick if he nails it down.

If you want a little bit of fantasy style action, I like the Goalscorer Challenge game. It's certainly not too late to join and compete. And the international games are included.

You have to pick one player each week who you think is going to score. You can't pick the same player twice. Deadline this week is 4.45pm today, and you need to pick one PL player who's going to score, and preferably score multiple times, in the weekend's international games.

Can't help but feel that Cissokho might just knock him out of Liverpool's first team at some point. I don't think Rodgers rates him for some reason. Glen Johnson's a good shout if he gets a good amount of time as a wing-back though.

I don't rate him either, but I'm not sure if Cissokho can play as a LWB. Anyone know? I've never seen him play. I'd rate GJ up there but he's already missed too much gametime I reckon. He would've been my choice had he not been injured, so I went for the other side 😉

        This, most likely.

But then again, you probably won't get the best points by owning them, but by owning some less expensive defenders during their best times (e.g. Coleman this early season, maybe most of the season, Clyne/Fonte also, Chico and Enrique probably for next few rounds)

Terry vs Ivanovic is a tricky one this year - Bap magnet vs more attacking threat.

I suppose Terry's combo of both and being a tad cheaper favours him more at this stage, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Ivanovic outscore him over the course of the season.

What will score more over the season.. Baines or a rotating Coleman and two 4.5 defenders..?
Other defenders would be Walker & Vertonghen. May add Terry in a week or two.

Coleman and two £4.5m defenders. But it'll be hard picking out when each player will score the most points. It'd be easier just to play Baines than choose which player out of the three has more chance of scoring the highest amount of points.

Yeah, had him at the end of last season - and though he didn't score he raked in clean sheets so I've never had a bad Baines experience.

                Honestly, I can't say I want him.
If I'm paying lots for a big mid I want to be able to captain them on occasion.. For that reason I don't think Oscar is worth it over the consistent cheaper options..

They have already beaten Liverpool away from home with a CS. They also have the best stats regarding shots conceded in the box. They could easily surprise the top dogs who have all lost to lower sides.

Yeah I get that, but how many people will be playing a Southampton defender against these teams if they don't have to? Anythings possible, but does it matter that Crystal Palace get a clean sheet to us? No, because hardly anyone will be playing a Palace defender.

Neither everyone has a Sot defender. I'll probably play Clyne most weeks due to his attacking threat and anything else is a bonus. Best defence in the league. Arsenal are the only side that have scored in every game also.

All mods/scouts can sticky/hot topic but obviously it's down to individual judgement and taste as to what makes the cut. Some things do get retrospective hot topic status if someone spots them the next day.

sorry for delay in replying but i thought discussions few nights ago on Silva vs yaya highlighted Yaya having good chance to equal silva points this year & it is a popular question i saw repeated over few days.

but just looking at the stats they are very few DZ hot topics

Breaking up the mids for a WC in three steps:

    First step
Michu is a must for a wc. No ifs and buts. A must. Fixtures, class,, everything.

    Step two
please choose one from each group:
    1 arsenal mid - ozil/wallcot/Ramsey
    1 Chelsea mid - Oscar/hazard/lampard
    1 tot or city mid - silva/yaya/paulinio/eriksen

    Step three

Then, according to money left pick your cheap - JZ Barkley Brady amalfitano

Now, if you have a very strong defence - for example Baines walker terry, you either pick Ramsey from the arsenal group or paulinho from the tot city group - or go with Miralas/Hernandez/etc instead.

I believe we are done here.

Id say the only viable chelsea mid at the moment is Oscar... and Im not even sure hes certain to play every week. My mids from WCing 2 weeks ago are Michu, Ozil, Eriksen, Brady, Barkley... but im looking to swap Eriksen --> Oscar and downgrading somewhere else in my team by 0.5 to make space. I agree with this post for the most part anyway.. 🙂

RonH, I felt similarly loyal to Kev, but had to flip him for Barks to make my Wally to Ozil move. Based on what I've seen of EVE, Kev has plenty of potential, but no more than Barks I'd say, and the form book points in one direction.
