City’s irresistible attack brings more joy for a pair of players who are prompting Fantasy managers back to the drawing board. Elsewhere, Everton’s loanee hitman disappoints in a Gameweek where striking rivals deliver once again.

The Game Changer

Sergio Aguero’s form is becoming increasingly hard to ignore. City are clear at the top of the goalscoring stakes and David Silva’s return appears to have re-ignited their form and, in particular, that of the Argentinian marksman.

A brace at Upton Park this evening brings Aguero to five strikes in his last three league matches. Had his spot-kick counted in his favour against Everton in Gameweek 7 and not been registered as an own goal, Aguero would likely be out in front as the FPL’s top scoring player.

Largely ignored while we waited on Manuel Pellegrini’s teamsheet trends, it’s become clear that, despite competition up front, Aguero is key to the Chilean’s plans and central to City’s title challenge.

With just over 10% ownership, we’re looking at a low-level differential with explosive qualities. Even with such fierce competition for places in our forward lines, his form in a City attack that looks full of goals, simply has to demand our attention and have us at least consider a route to recruit.

The Underused

David Silva has emerged as a rare commodity – a reliable heavy hitter from midfield.

While Mesut Ozil retuned strongly for the Gunners today, the German international is an established favourite in over a third of FPL lineups. In contrast, Silva’s ownership sits under 5% meaning that, like Aguero, he stands out a hugely effective differential. Significantly, the Spaniard has either scored or assisted in four of his five league starts this season – that is a consistency that, arguably, only Ozil and Aaron Ramsey can currently rival in midfield.

Tonight many Fantasy managers will be weighing up a dilemma – Aguero or Silva. With City blitzing opponents with goals – it’s becoming clear that we can’t go on ignoring the potential of their two protagonists.

The Selection Poser

Romelu Lukaku’s failure in the win over Hull is surely forgivable given his impressive impact on arrival at Goodison. In a Gameweek where almost every other heavy-hitting striker delivered, however, it will greatly frustrate the Belgian’s owners.

Having hovered up new owners over the international break, it remains to be seen if today’s 68-minute blank will raise the first alarm bells. It’s unthinkable to consider that Lukaku won’t go on delivering value for his 8.0 price tag but value from our strikers isn’t a major consideration, right now.

There could be concern that, long-term, Lukaku may struggle to keep pace with the Liverpool pairing, Olivier Giroud, Sergio Aguero and United’s forwards – this is without considering the return of Christian Benteke.

With so much value available in midfield, three heavy-hitting forwards can be a reality and, given the form being shown in the current Fantasy landscape, we can’t afford a drop in output from any of our strikers, particularly those who tempt the armband. It may be just one blank but Lukaku needs a goal at Villa.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

giroud is close to being unrestable. also i think if things keep going as they are, it would be prudent for arsenal to concentrate on the premiership which they have a realistic chance of winning for the first time in years, they've no chance in champs league.

Each week there seems to be compelling arguments for yet another midfield or forward transfer, so my defence hasn't changed at all since GW1

So need to bring in someone like Chico, Terry or GJohnson
A Chico has a good run
B Terry should give quality all season
C GJohnson looks cheap and could get ahead of the bandwagon

Was getting pissed off after not getting any significant points from my defense since some GWs, so scribbled some thoughts. It’s possible these stats are available for members or it’s of no use but still ….So, here I go:
    I divided teams in 4 groups –

Usual Suspects (US) – Chelsea, City, United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs
Goodfellas (GF) – West Ham, Southampton, Stoke, Swansea, Everton
Die Hard (DH) – Newcastle, West Brom, Norwich, Fulham, Villa
Lost (LT) – Cardiff, Sunderland, Palace, Hull

Rationale behind grouping was that they neutralize Home-Away or Easy-Tough Fixtures for each other. After that, I tried to see how many teams in each group managed to keep a CS each GW. The scenario looks something like below –

    US GF DH LT Total

    GW 1 4 3 1 0 8
    GW 2 4 2 2 1 9
    GW 3 4 3 1 1 9
    GW 4 3 4 0 0 7
    GW 5 2 2 2 0 6
    GW 6 0 1 1 1 3
    GW 7 0 2 2 1 5
    GW 8 * 0 2 1 0 3

    Total 17 19 10 4

We can clearly see that number of CS has been decreasing. Also, no CS for the bigger clubs in last 3 GW. So, can we draw some inferences (probably pointless) –
    - Defenders are getting less productive, hence time to draw money from defense and put in a players like Aguero, Hazard, Silva, Walcott, Ozil, Suarez?
    - Time to invest in more attacking defenders from middle of table teams like Rangel, Ridgewell, Rat instead of highly priced defenders from bigger clubs?
    - Also, Liverpool haven’t kept any CS in last 5 GW. Time to get rid of Migs or at least buy a 2nd pair of gloves?
    - Demel is the only God!!!

    Thoughts appreciated.
