Fernando Torres grabs a goal and assist as Chelsea snatch a dramatic late win over City. Sergio Aguero’s scoring streak continues, though Michu causes owners consternation after drawing a fourth straight blank. A Roberto Soldado spot-kick is enough for Spurs to see off while, while a switch to 4-4-2 helps Gus Poyet win the Tyne-Wear derby in his first home match in charge of Sunderland:

Torres Makes the Difference
Having bagged a brace in the midweek Champions League win over Schalke, the Spaniard retained his place for the visit of City. Torres continued to impress, with a goal and assist in the 2-1 win earning him maximum bonus for a 12-point haul as Jose Mourinho’s side moved into second. Bearing in mind he’s never started two league matches in a row this season, his acquisition remains a huge risk but Torres has the form and the fixtures to prove a real differential if his manager keeps the faith – the Blues next seven (new, WBA, whm, SOU, sun, sto, CPL) look hugely enticing.

Schurrle Opens His Account
Given the importance of yesterday’s game, it’s arguable that Mourinho viewed his starting line-up as the strongest available. The German once again featured from the start, with Eden Hazard shifting over to the right to accommodate him – Schurrle finally found the net for the first time this term and, having now started five of the last six he has been available for, is becoming increasingly integral to Mourinho’s plans. At 7.3 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), compared to Hazard and Oscar at 9.1 and 9.0 respectively, he could well be worth a punt given the schedule above.

Aguero Run Continues
Fielded as a lone striker as Manuel Pellegrini opted for a 4-5-1, the Argentine maintained his outstanding recent form with yet another strike. It’s six goals in his last four in all competitions now for Aguero, with four goals and two assists in his last three in the league helping him to 64 FPL points – just three behind Daniel Sturridge in the overall standings. Yesterday’s defeat sees City slip to seventh, making a win over Norwich all the more crucial and with a trip to Sunderland also on his agenda prior to the next international break, fears are likely to ease over any potential rotation, with Aguero’s contribution simply too key for Pellegrini to dismiss right now.

Poyet Rings the Changes
After omitting Jozy Altidore from his first team sheet in charge of Sunderland last weekend, Gus Poyet reinstalled the US international alongside Steven Fletcher as Emanuele Giaccherini dropped out. The Uruguayan’s decision to shift to a front two proved decisive in a crucial derby win – Fletcher notched the opener and Altidore earned his first attacking points of the season after teeing up sub Fabio Borini for the winner. Already, the Wearside outfit are quickly evolving from the Paolo Di Canio regime – just five of the players picked in the Italian’s last match in charge in Gameweek 5 made yesterday’s XI. With trips to Hull, Stoke and Villa in the next four, the Fletcher-Altidore partnership will be hoping for more of the same after finally showing signs of prospering.

Soldado on the Spot
The Spaniard took advantage of a very fortuitous penalty award to seal the points against an obstinate Hull side. Worryingly for Spurs, they seemed incapable of breaking down Steve Bruce’s five-man backline until the spot-kick was given – in spite of their host of new signings, they have scored just nine times in the first nine Gameweeks. Soldado continues to have his critics – three of his four goals this season have now come courtesy of the spot but with a pair of assists also accrued, he has played a part in six of those nine strikes and at least looks a secure starter once again – something which cannot be said for the majority of Spurs midfielders. Last week Christian Eriksen dropped out of the XI and this time round it was Gylfi Sigurdsson’s turn, with Andre Villas-Boas opting for Aaron Lennon as he continues to search for the ideal combination behind the lone forward – the Spurs boss revealed after the game Andros Townsend was “okay” after landing awkwardly on his wrist – reassuring for the 138,000 FPL managers who drafted him in last week.

Vertonghen’s Premium Value
It’s six clean sheets in nine now as Villas-Boas’ side rack up the defensive returns. Having scored for the first time this term with a goal in the Europa League on Thursday, Jan Vertonghen continued to produce the goods – fielded at left-back once again, with Michael Dawson partnered by Vlad Chiriches in the middle, the Belgian was awarded the assist for Soldado’s penalty and also earned the maximum bonus points. His offensive threat is finally starting to come to fruition, with the 7.1 priced Vertonghen now up to 52 points – 14 ahead of any midfield team-mate and eighth in the overall FPL standings. With Everton, City and United in the next four, though, investment in Tottenham’s backline may be a little slow in arriving this week.

Michu Drought Extended
In hindsight, perhaps it wasn’t so surprising that Swansea failed to find the net yesterday – West Ham, after all, had conceded just a single goal in four away games prior to their Liberty visit. Handed the armband by many a Fantasy manager, Michu looked in good form heading into this one after netting in Europe on Thursday evening but another resilient display by the Hammers maintained his domestic drought – it’s now four games without a goal for last season’s Fantasy sensation. While faith has understandably dipped, the Swans’ schedule – allied with Michael Laudrup’s continued tinkering up top – still indicates reason for optimism; Cardiff, Stoke, Fulham, Newcastle and Hull are five of the next six opponents.

Hammers Resilience
The upcoming schedule is likely to see increased investment in Sam Allardyce’s defence after another resolute performance. West Ham have now conceded just eight goals this term – only the top five boast a more impressive defensive record – with five clean sheets already racked up for Jussi Jaaskelainen and co. Home clashes against Villa and Fulham, supplemented with trips to Norwich and Palace in the next five, bode well for those looking to invest; aside from their keeper, Winston Reid (5.1) looks the most secure backline option, though Razvan Rat is down to just 4.5 and has started each of the last five.

    Mirallas (TOT) for the bench?

I don't either. If i had to, i'd go Hazard.

      Reasons?

Oscar for me is like the Mata of last season. He makes Chelsea tick. He's in the middle of everything good they do.

Hazard is too correct a player for my liking. He wants to do everything right and there isn't enough risk or gambling in his game. He'd be a much better player if so. Also tends to disappear a lot. Very patchy.

So many of us have Sturridge instead of Suarez. Now, will Suarez really outscore Sturridge to the point that it's worth forking out an extra 1.5 m in order to bring in the Rat- faced weekend sensation?

    Suarez VS Sturridge

    Suarez :

    46 Points / 4 Games
    11.5 PpG

    Sturridge :

    67 Points / 9 Games
    7.4 PpG

    Liverpool vs West Brom

    Sturridge :

    - 1 Goal
    - 5 Shots In Total
    - 1 ShotOnTarget
    - 4 ShotsOffTarget
    - Shooting Accuracy of 20%
    - Shot Conversion rate of 20%
    - Minutes Per Shot ---> 18 MINUTES
    - Minutes per shot On Target ---> 90 MINUTES

    Suarez:
    - 1 Goal
    - 8 Shots In Total
    - 5 ShotsOnTarget
    - 3 ShotsOffTarget
    - Shooting Accuracy of 63%
    - Shot Conversion rate of 38%
    - Minutes Per Shot ---> 11.13 MINUTES
    - Minutes per Shot On Target ---> 17.8 MINUTES

For the game VS West Brom, Suarez has superior attacking stats in every aspect. The most significant stat being his Minutes per Shot and Minutes per SoT , being 11.13 min and 17.8 min respectively. Whilst Studge only managed a 18 minutes per shot, and 90 whole minutes for a shot on target.
In terms of scoring goals, it's quite clear that Suarez is going to outscore Sturridge by quite a bit, and he definitely wins out on that front.

    Creativity :

    Suarez:

    - Created 3 Chances
    - 4 Crosses
    - 3 Long Balls
    - 2 Through Balls

    Sturridge:

    - Created 2 Chances
    - 1 Cross
    - 5 Long Balls
    - 1 Through ball

It looks like Suarez also bests Sturridge in the creativity department. The difference is not as significant as it was in the Attacking side though.
All in all, Suarez definitely has the superior stats. He also looked alot livelier than Sturridge during the game against West Brom.

Take it as you will, but I definitely think Suarez is significantly the better option, and bringing in Suarez for Sturridge, can only boost you in your quest to climb up the FPL ranks.

My dilemma exactly (see below). Worry for me is that if I don't to Sturridge to Suarez now, the price of rat-face will skyrocket and I'll spend all season working out how the hell to afford him, whilst also cursing the fact that I'm losing out in all my mini-leagues for not having him (aka last season).

      True,

Well from the previous couple of games:

      Sturridge :

      717 Minutes
      27 Shots
      22 inside Penalty Box
      14 SoT
      7 Chances Created

      Suarez:

      270 Minutes
      15 Shots
      9 Inside penalty box
      7 SoT
      5 Chances Created

Considering, Suarez had around 1/3 the amount of minutes Sturridge had, his stats are quite impressive, and still seem to be superior to Sturridge's.

    Three quick thoughts please?

    A) Upgrade Sturridge to Suarez now before price goes haywire, or wait and see? (Other strikers are Giroud and Luks)

    B) I'll fund that by downgrading Michu, but to Hernandez (game time risk but crazy differential) or Brady?

    C) Worth doubling up on Saints defenders? Already have Clyne but thinking Wilson-->Lovren. Or could get Dawson instead. (Other defs are Terry, Baines, Rosenior)

    Suarez/Aguero/Lukaku gives you a captaincy option of;

NOR FUL TOT/LIV SWA NOR WHM FUL CAR SUN CPL HUL NOR CAR until WC time.

I won't have all 3 until then, nor will I captain one of them every week, form will change and injuries will occur, but it still is nice to look at.

    Boruc
    Terry, Fonte, Coleman, Walker
    Ramsey, Oscar, Ozil
    Giroud, Aguero (C), Suarez
    (4.0, Januzaj, Barkley, Chester)

0.2m in the bank and 1FT. What do we think is the best move? I'd like to cut down to at most 2 Arsenal from my front 8, particularly with the midfield looking like a rotation nightmare once Wally is back.

    A) Ozil -> Silva
    B) Giroud -> Benteke
    C) Barkely -> Brady (Switch to 3-4-3)
    D) Keep the FT
    E) Other?

Yeah, I had to wildcard GW6 to sort things out. Have been doing fairly well since then but made a bit of a mess of the wildcard defence. October could have been great.

Is Nolan -> Sess/Amalfitano worth a free transfer this week? A home fixture vs Palace is tempting, but would then probably mean I have to bench either Ravel (AVL) or Mirallas (TOT).

    Boruc
    Baines, Terry, Clyne
    Michu, Ramsey, Mirallas, Ravel
    Suarez, Aguero, Giroud

    Davis, Nolan, Toure, Ward

One of the WBA boys is so tempting this week - best possible fixture and rotates superbly with Ravel for the 4th mid spot. If going Amalfitano, it raises some decent cash also.

I usually check the prices daily to see if my potential transfers in and out will rise/drop. Don't like making early transfers unless there are no midweek matches, been burnt in the past...though if it's for someone who you'd otherwise miss out on, then it's worth it.

        - David Santon looks a decent attacking option solely from this weekend's game. But Newcastle aren't going to keep any CS.

Note on West Ham away. They are 4/5 clean sheets away so far. I watched Swans v West Ham yesterday and saw why. Basically sat everyone behind the ball the entire game.

Never captain someone at home to west ham. It will be a trap. It'll look ok on paper, but it'llbe really frustrating.

Strangely, Southampton-West Ham rotation must be misleading also. Soton do their bit at home and CS. But the Hammers keep theirs away. Must be a few people benching these cleans sheets when Soton are at home.

One goal conceded in five away games makes Reid one of the best picks in the game...and it's nothing new, they did it all last year....Also puts Michu's apparent poor performance into perspective.

Worth noting that City and Everton have made up 2/4 home games.. Conceded 3 in each game.
Conceded 1 vs Stoke and none vs Cardiff

He's a great choice, he hasn't even showed his attacking potential yet, is cheap as hell, his team has been great in defense, is a starter, and they have good fixtures.

Barkleys gotta go this week... But who for? Got £1.5 mil in bank. Thinking maybe Ramirez but already have oscar & hazard. Chelsea have an amazing schedule though. Or maybe januzaj / Hernandez / Morrison? Feel abit cheeky asking for help as I'm ranked 378th overall but would be much appreciated 🙂 cheers

Well he's not strictly a DM, is cheap, almost guaranteed to start in a team that's been rotated heavily around him and is competing for the title. AND he's looked really dangerous even if he hasn't delivered yet, not such a strange decision in my opinion, but i wouldn't go for it Craig, because you have Oscar and Hazard already, and i think Januzaj is a better punt. Keep an eye out on Arnautovic too, but Januzaj is the better choice for now

    I have the following team:

    Mignolet (Harper)
    Terry Fonte Clyne Williams Wilson
    Ozil Michu Hazzard Amalfitano Barkley
    Aguero Suarez Lukaku

Wanting to get rid of both Wilson and Amalfitano - who to replace with?
Would you change Michu to Silva or wait and swap for Coutihnio next week when hes back?

I have him and would stick for now. The Cardiff game is a derby, so i expect there to be goals and you should take West Ham's great away defensive record so far this season to see that Michu blanking in the last game isn't so bad. And he scored in the Europa League game on Thursday so i would stick, for now

Yanga + Paulinho for Kolorov + Sess??

    Is Kolorov a likely starter?

Sess has Abysmal Palace next game 🙂

No no no, Yanga for either Clyne or Rat, you save yourself money and you'll probably get more points
