As always, we spend Monday lunchtimes in the classroom, considering and discussing what us Fantasy managers can learn from the Gameweek events. For the next hour or so, let’s consider the captain credentials of Luis Suarez, our failing midfields and how we can work puns into some analysis of Joe Hart’s form without alluding to a “dodgy ticker”…

It’s that little bit harder to ignore Suarez…
Yes, Daniel Strurridge scored. Yes, so did Olivier Giroud and Wayne Rooney, even the Van Persie fella notched again. Even so, as a beaming Luis Suarez ran from the pitch gleefully clutching the match ball after a first Anfield hat-trick, thousands of Fantasy managers would have been pondering the Uruguayan’s potential “essential” status. While David Moyes struggles to unshackle Van Persie, has Suarez now emerged as the most reliable captain candidate week-to-week? Six goals and two assists have seen him return in every outing since his return to the Liverpool lineup. If you backed him each time with the armband, you’d be grinning and winning this morning. How long can we really do without his brand of brilliance? Suarez needs to do something crazy to reassure this non-owner – maybe draw a blank or lunch on Jack Wilshere’s tattooed forearm at the Emirates next week.

The midfield is a minefield…
While it’s a little too easy predicting points up front and at the back, the midfield has become a major sticking point for Fantasy managers. Aaron Ramsey has been reliable enough and his assist at Palace on Saturday saw him return for the fifth time in his last six outings. All good. However, consider that Ramsey and Hatem Ben Arfa were the only midfielders with more than 10% ownership to deliver any points in the Gameweek. Chelsea’s Andre Schurrle and Everton’s unfashionable Leon Osman were the only goalscorers from the middle of the park and they boast a 2% Fantasy Premier League ownership between them. Not a single midfielder over 9.0 delivered returns other than a clean sheet.

Ross Barkley’s star is waning…
Hooked off on the hour mark in Everton’s 2-0 win at Villa, the 18-year-old had to watch on while the experience of Osman unlocked the home rearguard and handed the points to the Toffees. Suddenly the doubters are circling. Barkley’s potential is without question but, with competition for places in the Everton midfield now ramping up, Barkley is being spared pitch time and it might not be long before his owners begin to feel twitchy on his security of starts.

A fading Nani is no match for the new brand of Januzaj magic…
Booed from the Old Trafford pitch as he trudged off to be replaced by Adnan Januzaj on 58 minutes, the transition from old to new couldn’t have been more stark. Ironically, both players signed five-year deals at the club in recent weeks and, while Moyes is clearly looking to give Nani the opportunity to justify that faith, he did little to convince against Stoke. Januzaj on the other hand, immediately lifted the home crowd and injected urgency – he played his part in United’s comeback and again hinted that Moyes needs to start the 18-year-old or risk seeing his midfield slip into slumber, with an increased reliance on Robin van Persie or Wayne Rooney to conjur something from nothing. Surely we’ll see a Januzaj start at Fulham?

Nobody wants to welcome the Hammers to their backyard…
The 0-0 at the Liberty handed West Ham their fourth clean sheet on the road from five matches – the only goal they’ve conceded away from home has been the rather dubious Robbie Brady spot-kick at Hull City. While there have been seven goals shipped at Upton Park, clearly the West Ham back four continues to offer Fantasy managers value, particularly if we can count on them to offer returns on their travels. The Razvan Rat fans are building, although I’ve an inkling that a first James Tomkins goal is just around the corner – 4.7 anyone?

Pellegrini may not spare Hart this time…
Manuel Pellegrini’s refusal to defend Joe Hart after Chelsea’s calamitous winning goal is almost being seen as the writing on the wall for the City keeper. Predictably the papers are looking to create a story out of nothing but, having said that, the pressure on Pellegrini to address the confidence of his keeper is mounting. Earlier this month we saw the City boss state that he faced a difficult situation with Hart; that his form was a concern and his place in the starting lineup under consideration. Following Sunday’s events, that dilemma will be revisited and the Chilean may well decide that a hand on the shoulder is no longer the option to take – Costel Pantilimon is available at 4.9 in the FPL. Just saying.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Hmm don't think I want to remove them both! Arsenal are still top of the league and scoring goals...think may stick to Ozil for now but Giroud seems to not be scoring as many goals off late. Can't ignore City for too long given their fixtures and think Chelsea will hit a run now.

Thanks, that is a possibility in a few weeks but I've had Sturridge all season, he's the highest scoring player in the game and has scored 8 out of 9 weeks. he stays at the moment. Just a shame I didn't jump on SAS last week!

Wouldn't double up on liverpool now.... Sturridge is looking lazy now. Maybe because we are all comparing him to suarez who's just always on the ball. I'd be getting something attacking from Man U. They will bounce bak to form. Especially if RVP starts firing.

I think it looks dynamite, I'd love that front-line. Sturridge offers amazing value and consistency, fixtures are still good. Midfield have the 3 big guys I'd like to have going forward. I'd hope for a Chester fitness declaration before the weekend so you can get him over Rosenoir, otherwise looks great.

IF you were to ditch Sturr, Lukaku has 3 home games and Crystal Palace sandwiched inbetween in the next 4. 5 goals in 5 (not even full) games.

Thanks, strikers are the toughest choice, there are so many playing really well this year.
I've already owned Lukaku, Benteke, Giroud and Rooney at times this season.
Sturridge will stay whilst he tops the striker rankings, it will cost me a fortune to sell and then get him back, I've already done that with Giroud this week.
If Aguerro plays in the next 2 I'm hoping for quite a few goals, he's the obvious captain choice and my choices so far have been appalling (Ozil last week (3) and Michu the week before (3)).
I don't think you'd find a WC team without Suarez at the moment.

It's a tough choice to decide between Rooney and Aguero, I want Aguero for the next 2 and then I might re-assess things. There are no three obvious choices this year, Suarez is the only essential I think.

Yeah, cant fit Aguero in also, the dream would be Aguero,Suarez and Rooney, but then I need to ditch Sturridge and hes been so good and would be a small differential in my league. You trying to make some money on WC? Cant see that many 0.2 risers except Suarez and Aguero.
          My strikeforce now is Rooney,Suarez,Sturridge

Thanks for that, i'd forgotten to check it. I'm reasonably happy with my defense, Rat could do with an upgrade but I think 3 big hitting mids are more important. If Michu continues to struggle I have 0.5m in the bank to upgrade him to Hazard. Unlike most other people I refuse to transfer out the highest scoring player in the game so Sturridge stays at the moment.

    Bonus Allocations:

    Goalkeepers : 10
    Defenders: 28
    Midfielders: 6
    Forwards: 31

Bad week for the midfielders with only 5 of the 23 goals. 17 goals from Forwards and 1 from a defender.

    Eriksen to a 6.3 midfielder

    Or

    Rooney to Benteke?

    Front 8 is:

    Ozil-Brady-Barkley-Eriksen-Oscar
    Rooney-Giroud-Sturridge

Want to get Suarez in for Sturridge, so have to downgrade someone to make up the 1.6m.

Why not get Suarez in for Giroud and downgrade Eriksen?

Id prefer to have Giroud-suarez than Suarez-Sturridge, plus that would only leave me with 5.5m.

Couple of players who need shifting on...what should I prioritise? Considering shipping Vidic, Lampard, or both.

    Mignolet - 4.0

    Vidic - Nasty - Dawson - Fonte - Burner

    Ozil - Michu - Lampard - Townsend - Brady

    Aguero - Giroud - Lukaku

If you do both you can get Williams and Oscar/Hazard/Silva which should set you up well for the next few weeks

    evening all.

thinking of doing michu and lukaku for townsend and saurez for a 4 pointer..

saurez seems to be a necessity now and i feel like i need him in my team, but with the upcoming fixtures of pool and spurs i'm not sure whether to go through with it or not.

all thoughts would be appreciated. cheers.

Just a correction on the "Midfielders" part of the Article.

5 (not 2) midfielders scored this week................Arteta, Schurrle, Morrison, Osman & Arnautovic (the Stoke guy!).....................

Nah actually he's right... 5 midfielders did score...

The ownership part was referring to those 2 as the only above 10% ownership who returned any attacking points... (both assists, not goals)

Very bad picking around that price, probably best to just go really cheap with Mutch or someone

Injuries clearing up, and a 77 pt week mean that maybe, just maybe this season can start for me now.

What would any of you do with this lot? My instinct says save transfer. But maybe now is the time to swap RVP for Aguero? Also, who to bench this week? Got burnt at the weekend by benching Arnoutovic. Figured if Brady didnt start for Hull, he wouldnt be in the squad. Currently got Januzaj on the timber.

    Migs Boruc
    Johnson Chico Burner Coleman Chester
    Brady Ramsey Michu Arnoutovic Januzaj
    RVP Suarez Giroud

I have both, and I thought they had both already dropped 0.2m this GW.
