Our regular look at the upcoming fixtures will come in two parts from now on. In today’s first installment, we analyse those teams with favourable schedules and their respective likely protagonists – a run of three home games in four hand a certain Argentine the chance to wreak further havoc on opposition backlines, whilst Villa’s Belgian battering ram will be optimistic of returning to scoring form.

Man City

CityGW10

Defensive wobbles aside, Manuel Pellegrini’s team are on song right now, scoring with wild abandon – 13 goals in their last five Premier League games tells its own story. With an entertaining Stamford Bridge showdown behind them, City have the fixtures to continue that goalscoring form and perhaps even improve upon a lack of defensive resolve that has seen them concede in each of their last five. Three home games in the next four, plus trips to Sunderland and West Brom make an eloquent case for investment.

Top of the agenda for Fantasy managers at the moment, Sergio AgΓΌero is in the form of his Premier League career with six goals and two assists in his last four league appearances. In midfield, David Silva looks to be a better prospect than last season, with a goal and two assists in the three games since returning from injury, while Yaya Toure’s displays have earned him second spot in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) midfield rankings so far. With faith in Manuel Pellegrini’s backline at a low ebb and rotation biting even Pablo Zabaleta, these fixtures may struggle to tempt investment – the potential return of Vincent Kompany should tighten things up, though, while Costel Pantilimon may present up with a tempting option between the sticks if he can oust the off-form Joe Hart.

Aston Villa

VillaGW10

Goalless against Everton, Villa continued their recent struggles in attack, even with Christian Benteke back from injury. Paul Lambert could hardly wish for a better set of fixtures to turn that tide, though; the next six games see them face only one team – Southampton – from the top half of the table. Home games against Cardiff and Sunderland look prosperous, while away dates with West Ham, West Brom and struggling Fulham should also give Villa every opportunity to get back to goalscoring ways.

As ever, Benteke is head and shoulders above his midland peers as Fantasy asset of choice from the Villa Park menu. Gabby Agbonlahor and Andreas Weimann briefly looked like viable differentials earlier in the season but haven’t delivered on that promise. Having kept just two clean sheets so far, Fantasy managers may understandably be looking for a little more evidence of points potential before investing in a backline that has now seen only Ron Vlaar play 90 minutes of every game – keeper Brad Guzan remains the standout defensive option and has racked up 11 points more than any defender.

Swansea

SwanseaGW10

Following their 4-0 drubbing of Sunderland with a drab goalless draw against West Ham, Swansea aren’t quite firing as consistently as we would have like. Perhaps, as predicted by many, Europa League duties have taken their toll on squad fatigue but Michael Laudrup certainly has the fixture list on his side to turn that around. Cardiff, Stoke and Fulham in the next three could be lucrative and, after a stern test at the Etihad in Gameweek 13, home games against Newcastle and Hull signal a return to smooth sailing.

Another blank for Michu has set a few nerves jangling but there’s no doubting that he’s a strong option for the upcoming schedule. Pablo Hernandez looks a decent mid-price alternative – he began his comeback from injury with 30 minutes last weekend and should soon become a first team regular. Back-to-back clean sheets make a case for the Swans’ defence, especially with the return of Ashley Williams alongside Chico Flores. Angel Rangel has shown plenty of attacking intent whilst Michel Vorm remains a strong option between the sticks.

Chelsea

ChelseaGW10

A win over City may prove to be the perfect springboard for an assault on the summit at the expense of lower placed teams. The Blues have just two games at home (West Brom and Southampton) in the next six but their away fixtures (new, whm, sun, sto) are nevertheless enticing. Fantasy managers will be confident of returns at both ends of the pitch and many will be focusing on Chelsea coverage.

John Terry and Branislav Ivanovic look the most secure backline options – their attacking potential is key, given that Chelsea haven’t kept a clean sheet since Gameweek 5. In midfield, the dilemma over Oscar and Eden Hazard was taken no further forward by their blanks against City but Andre SchΓΌrrle’s goal ensured his differential stock took a rise. Fernando Torres’s apparent resurgence in form would be seized upon by more Fantasy managers if it wasn’t for the embarrassment of riches we already have up top.

ALSO CONSIDER

Liverpool
Maintaining their form to overturn β€œbogey team” West Brom, Brendan Rodgers’ men face Arsenal next but the following five Gameweeks include home games against Fulham, Norwich and West Ham as well as trips to Hull and Everton – fixtures that will see the armband fixed permanently to a certain Uruguayan for many managers. Despite being overshadowed by his team-mate, Daniel Sturridge is still scoring goals at an incredibly consistent rate and the imminent return from injury of Brazilian playmaker Philippe Coutinho may improve his chances further. Sticking with a three-at-the-back formation ensures that Glen Johnson, deployed as a wingback, remains the most promising of Liverpool’s defenders.

West Ham
The Hammers’ season has been something of a tale of two teams so far – a resilient defence that has conceded just one goal away from home and a stuttering attack that has scored just eight times. The upcoming five fixtures (AVL, nor, CHE, FUL, cpl) looks profitable for the likes of centre-halves James Tomkins and Winston Reid, while pre-season bandwagon Razvan Rat is also in our considerations at 4.5. Ravel Morrison remains in our thinking at just 4.6 in midfield but is just one caution away from a single-match ban.

Hull City
Having tasted defeat at the Lane due to a contentious spot-kick award, Steve Bruce’s disciplined crew look appealing for the same reasons as Sam Allardyce’s – a few plum fixtures and the defensive resilience to earn Fantasy points. While trips to Arsenal and Southampton don’t hold much promise, home games against Sunderland and Crystal Palace afford the chance to extend a record which has seen the Tigers concede just once in four games in front of their own fans. Allan McGregor’s injury makes Steve Harper (4.0) a decent budget second goalkeeper, though Curtis Davies offers a security of starts in the heart of defence. Robbie Brady will be hopeful of continuing his early season form and remains strong value at 5.2.

I wouldnt do it. Atleast not this week. Luiz was rock solid yesterday. I am sure he will partner Terry this weekend. And if you still want to transfer him out do it to Terry instead. Che has a good run of fixtures.

    My lineup:

    Migs (4.0)

    Shaw, Lovren, Ivanovic (Jagielka, Davies)

    Amalfitano, Ramsey, Silva, Oscar (Barkley)

    Lukaku, Suarez, Aguero(c)

    0.7m ITB

Seems solid enough, I guess there's little room for improvement.

I'm a little bit concerned about the Soton vs. Stoke game though.

exact same situation (have all five starters you do)

decided against hits for either Rooney or Aguero

decided against Giroud to Benteke until I see a more definitive reason to... have a lot of profit rapped in Giroud that I'm not sure I should give up so easily

Same, got Giroud in at 8.6 so there's definitely that value-lost argument there.

I eventually want Benteke in my team, and I don't see Suarez or Lukaku (at that price and value) giving way for Benteke. That leaves Giroud and I'm still not comfortable with 3 Arsenal attackers esp considering their upcoming fixtures.

Might be worth the risk getting Benteke early? In that case, are you saving the FT?

I got Giroud in at 8.6 too.

Giroud's price may have peaked, going down this week. If he doesn't perform in the 3 tough fixtures he will drop even more.

Benteke being quality and so cheap will rise fast if he performs. His form is a concern but he'll score very soon anyway.

Speaking of form, my take aways form the Villa-Everton highlights were that Benteke had a couple of clear chances aside from the penalty. He could have finished better but Howard saved Everton's skin on those occasions and the penalty save was magnificent (not a bad peno imo from Benteke).

If he had converted that penalty i think Benteke would be more seriously considered around here. Just my 2 cents.

            It's a tough call, Giroud > Benteke.

Have the same Arsenal trio and also thinking about Giroud to Benteke. Fixtures look very attractive for Villa while Arsenal have 3 tough games. Benteke not in form yet after injury but is cheap now.

I will probably go ahead late on Friday in case of last min injuries especially as no price changes for either players imminent.

Yea that's it isn't it? Don't feel comfortable with 3 arsenal attackers with those upcoming fixtures, doesn't matter if they're on form (which looks like it's waning at the moment). They'd have to score a clear 3 goals to benefit from having those 3. don't see that happening. Thanks for the opinion.

well, with the 3 you've got it's likely that if arsenal scores even a single goal you'd probably get both the scorer and the player who assisted. in that sense it's nice....

but, arsenal have 2 moderately hard matches, and benteke is available u could hop on that train...
if arsenal gets one . no problem ... Benteke will probably score 2 .. πŸ™‚
if arseanl score two... then u might miss points given taht all the assists and goals should go to your player

made you even more Confused... right πŸ˜‰

Who is best capt this week for non Aguero owners?

Had it on Rooney, however Suarez is really tempting me. He is the only one who is guaranteed to get ninety minutes out of all the contenders. Arsenal look to be in a mini slump too.
No Flamini and Arteta suspended, they look short on defensive mids , and their defence cn be a little slow , Sturridge nd Suarez could cue trouble

There are cheaper options in defence with the same club.
Michu: 4 blanks/only 7 goals all year. Time to boot. EL killing SWN.
Negredo: see if you got rid of the expensive defs you could have Aguero.

Morning Dzz, how we doing? have a few dilemmas....

    Myhill (boruc)
    Vidic Baines Burner (dawson wilson)
    Ramsey Michu Januzaj Hazard (barkley)
    Giroud Suarez lukaku

    Team issues:
    - wilson is deadwood
    - dont like my def for this gw, esp for gw12/13 when burner/dawson have shockin fix
    - januzaj might not start and backup is barkley making 3 everton players against spurs
    - cpt choice is either michu or hazard

    Options:
    A: wilson >> williams
    B: Giroud >> Aguero (c)
    C: Vidic + lukaku >> williams + Aguero (-4)
    D: januzaj/barkley >> brady

    Leaning towards A or B....

Yeah, I'm worried about Suarez - unplayable at the moment, so Kos and Mert will do very well to keep him quiet. Both attacks are better than the opposing defences imo, so I think the battle in midfield will be key. Do we know if Walcott could be back?

As an Arsenal fan and owner of 3 FPL players is it crazy that I am kind of happy we are out of the Carling Cup? Especially if the likes of OZIL and Giroud have to pay in it even for 30 min. Depth of squad is not there for 4 competitions. Even during the game I was half hoping for a win and half not!

I didn't hope Arsenal would lose but I'm not angry like usual. Compared to draw against WBA or loss to Dortmund, this was nothing.

Of course not, but for the first time in a while real belief is there for the title. And even seeing Ramsey, Cazorla and Kos starting last night was disturbing.

    1) Which two to start from: vidic dawson burner wilson

    - wilson is deadwood and will def come on as a sub
    - leaning towards vidic and burner

    2) Who to start btw januzaj and barkley...
    - januzaj might not start but already have baines/lukaku so trippling up against spurs isnt ideal
    - was really hoping that januzaj didnt play 90 last night πŸ™

There has been a lot of talk about Michu under performing, but IMO it is not due to the reasons people are claiming.

In terms of the "Europa impact", if we compare this seasons fixtures to last seasons results, we can see Swansea are in fact 1 point ahead of last season.

    http://i.imgur.com/wTutNEN.png

West Ham are very good in defence (8th in terms of shots on target conceded) and the 0-0 Full Time result did not surprise me one bit last week end.

In terms of Bony having an impact on Michu, I also do not buy into this argument. The Swansea forward role is a very isolated role and is meant to bring others into the game. If we look at last season, Michu's best position was "in the hole".

    Michu/Bony vs West Ham 2013/2014 - 0 goal

    Michu/Graham vs West Ham 2012/2013 - 1 goal

Personally, Michu will be staying another week in my team. Swansea face Cardiff who concede both the most shots on target and most total shots in EPL and he is definitely staying for this fixture.

Are there perhaps better value alternatives than Michu? Probably...

Is Michu underperforming due to Europa/Bony? I disagree.

You are right about West Ham. They have only conceded 1 goal away.
Has to be Michu's time this week otherwise an upgrade will be on the cards.

Here is something i don't understand. Why have so many people this week sold Giroud and Zabaleta?? I can KIND OF see why Giroud is been sold as there are so many forwards getting points this year but he is still scoring and assisting so i don't see why so many people have sold him. As for Zabaleta, well i truly don't understand this one lol he was dropped for ONE GAME and now everyone thinks he will be a rotation risk??? Cant see it happening. Kompany is just about back which will make City stronger in defence and with zaba their is always a chance of an assist.Thoughts??

What are people's views on a 5 a side 'Fantasy Football World Cup' where each nation would have 5 starting players and 2 as a sub from the Premier League. No goal keepers for a nation as it would be too hard, and they'd be formation rules.
Obviously it might be slightly hard to get 7 players from a nation playing in the Premier League, so for example they'd be an 'Africa' team or if two countries border each other they could join together (eg. Portugal and Spain.)
No one would have allocated teams, it's just a bit of fun I'd thought I'd do, and see how well nations would do in fantasy football in the Premier League. Also I'd come up with a structure as to who plays who. Don't worry, ill do all the hard work!

Anybody think it's a good idea and I should start assembling teams?

Very good idea. Just do it once the current beach volleyball tournament is out of the way otherwise it becomes overkill in the way that pop idol has destroyed musik.
