Our regular look at the upcoming fixtures will come in two parts from now on. In today’s first installment, we analyse those teams with favourable schedules and their respective likely protagonists – a run of three home games in four hand a certain Argentine the chance to wreak further havoc on opposition backlines, whilst Villa’s Belgian battering ram will be optimistic of returning to scoring form.

Man City

CityGW10

Defensive wobbles aside, Manuel Pellegrini’s team are on song right now, scoring with wild abandon – 13 goals in their last five Premier League games tells its own story. With an entertaining Stamford Bridge showdown behind them, City have the fixtures to continue that goalscoring form and perhaps even improve upon a lack of defensive resolve that has seen them concede in each of their last five. Three home games in the next four, plus trips to Sunderland and West Brom make an eloquent case for investment.

Top of the agenda for Fantasy managers at the moment, Sergio Agüero is in the form of his Premier League career with six goals and two assists in his last four league appearances. In midfield, David Silva looks to be a better prospect than last season, with a goal and two assists in the three games since returning from injury, while Yaya Toure’s displays have earned him second spot in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) midfield rankings so far. With faith in Manuel Pellegrini’s backline at a low ebb and rotation biting even Pablo Zabaleta, these fixtures may struggle to tempt investment – the potential return of Vincent Kompany should tighten things up, though, while Costel Pantilimon may present up with a tempting option between the sticks if he can oust the off-form Joe Hart.

Aston Villa

VillaGW10

Goalless against Everton, Villa continued their recent struggles in attack, even with Christian Benteke back from injury. Paul Lambert could hardly wish for a better set of fixtures to turn that tide, though; the next six games see them face only one team – Southampton – from the top half of the table. Home games against Cardiff and Sunderland look prosperous, while away dates with West Ham, West Brom and struggling Fulham should also give Villa every opportunity to get back to goalscoring ways.

As ever, Benteke is head and shoulders above his midland peers as Fantasy asset of choice from the Villa Park menu. Gabby Agbonlahor and Andreas Weimann briefly looked like viable differentials earlier in the season but haven’t delivered on that promise. Having kept just two clean sheets so far, Fantasy managers may understandably be looking for a little more evidence of points potential before investing in a backline that has now seen only Ron Vlaar play 90 minutes of every game – keeper Brad Guzan remains the standout defensive option and has racked up 11 points more than any defender.

Swansea

SwanseaGW10

Following their 4-0 drubbing of Sunderland with a drab goalless draw against West Ham, Swansea aren’t quite firing as consistently as we would have like. Perhaps, as predicted by many, Europa League duties have taken their toll on squad fatigue but Michael Laudrup certainly has the fixture list on his side to turn that around. Cardiff, Stoke and Fulham in the next three could be lucrative and, after a stern test at the Etihad in Gameweek 13, home games against Newcastle and Hull signal a return to smooth sailing.

Another blank for Michu has set a few nerves jangling but there’s no doubting that he’s a strong option for the upcoming schedule. Pablo Hernandez looks a decent mid-price alternative – he began his comeback from injury with 30 minutes last weekend and should soon become a first team regular. Back-to-back clean sheets make a case for the Swans’ defence, especially with the return of Ashley Williams alongside Chico Flores. Angel Rangel has shown plenty of attacking intent whilst Michel Vorm remains a strong option between the sticks.

Chelsea

ChelseaGW10

A win over City may prove to be the perfect springboard for an assault on the summit at the expense of lower placed teams. The Blues have just two games at home (West Brom and Southampton) in the next six but their away fixtures (new, whm, sun, sto) are nevertheless enticing. Fantasy managers will be confident of returns at both ends of the pitch and many will be focusing on Chelsea coverage.

John Terry and Branislav Ivanovic look the most secure backline options – their attacking potential is key, given that Chelsea haven’t kept a clean sheet since Gameweek 5. In midfield, the dilemma over Oscar and Eden Hazard was taken no further forward by their blanks against City but Andre Schürrle’s goal ensured his differential stock took a rise. Fernando Torres’s apparent resurgence in form would be seized upon by more Fantasy managers if it wasn’t for the embarrassment of riches we already have up top.

ALSO CONSIDER

Liverpool
Maintaining their form to overturn “bogey team” West Brom, Brendan Rodgers’ men face Arsenal next but the following five Gameweeks include home games against Fulham, Norwich and West Ham as well as trips to Hull and Everton – fixtures that will see the armband fixed permanently to a certain Uruguayan for many managers. Despite being overshadowed by his team-mate, Daniel Sturridge is still scoring goals at an incredibly consistent rate and the imminent return from injury of Brazilian playmaker Philippe Coutinho may improve his chances further. Sticking with a three-at-the-back formation ensures that Glen Johnson, deployed as a wingback, remains the most promising of Liverpool’s defenders.

West Ham
The Hammers’ season has been something of a tale of two teams so far – a resilient defence that has conceded just one goal away from home and a stuttering attack that has scored just eight times. The upcoming five fixtures (AVL, nor, CHE, FUL, cpl) looks profitable for the likes of centre-halves James Tomkins and Winston Reid, while pre-season bandwagon Razvan Rat is also in our considerations at 4.5. Ravel Morrison remains in our thinking at just 4.6 in midfield but is just one caution away from a single-match ban.

Hull City
Having tasted defeat at the Lane due to a contentious spot-kick award, Steve Bruce’s disciplined crew look appealing for the same reasons as Sam Allardyce’s – a few plum fixtures and the defensive resilience to earn Fantasy points. While trips to Arsenal and Southampton don’t hold much promise, home games against Sunderland and Crystal Palace afford the chance to extend a record which has seen the Tigers concede just once in four games in front of their own fans. Allan McGregor’s injury makes Steve Harper (4.0) a decent budget second goalkeeper, though Curtis Davies offers a security of starts in the heart of defence. Robbie Brady will be hopeful of continuing his early season form and remains strong value at 5.2.

Agree, have no idea why Jose doesn't play him more, the man is pure class. Let this be a lesson for Wenger: see what happens when you don't buy more out and out strikers. You're relying on Bendtner for crying out loud. Teams who want to win cups have deeper benches. The regulars were working their tails off when it was still 1-0 and him and his stupid haircut were doing nothing, and we still almost managed to draw level!

Yep we do, and to keep Ramsey central as well. Flamini's presence is missed, he offers something I don't think Arteta does but both seem to be better with Ramsey than Jack does right now. Today we had to start Bendtner and he offers nothing, and we can't just play Giroud every game. Disappointing for me.

There are many options in United. So Januzaj won't play this weekend unless we need goals then he will start on the bench (that's my opinion). It's a simple answer and easy question.

Am I the only one who doesn't see City's fixtures as promising? The reason is mainly that they are so different home and away. At home, they are very strong, away, rather poor. The first two against Norwich and Sunderland, of course, are promising. So, it's reasonable to keep your City players for now. but for those bringing them in now, I recommend to take a look at the four fixtures after.

GW 12-13. Home fixtures against Spurs and Swans do not spell ideal to me. I admit, Swansea ain't top away from home, but Spurs may be even more resilient away than at home.

GW 14-15. Then the away fixtures. This is a team able to lose to basically anybody when away from home, and now they're going to meet WBA and So'ton that have proven hard to beat. Particularly the solid defence of So'ton may frustrate many owners of Aguero and Silva.

In addition, they have an all-important CL clash next week, between the Norwich and Sunderland matches. Which means a possible rest for star players in these games. So do ManU and Arsenal, but still, if I brought Silva in now, I would hate to see him cover only spare minutes in easy fixtures against Norwich and Sunderland, and then to be frustrated against tough defences of Tottenham and So'ton, and some assists against Swans and WBA would not console me much.

Nice that someone else sees it. Or I don't know. It really is worth considering are the matches easy for the club in particular. I don't think they will destroy Spurs by 3 goals. I mean, look at this:

City is free-scoring, right? At home, yes, they have smashed 3.25 goals per match. Away, it's not bad but not quite the same either, 1.6 goals per match. 1.6 does not guarantee double figures to any player, let alone to more than one.

Then their opponents. So'ton has only conceded once at home, in five matches. That's 0.2 goals per match. Spurs only once away, likewise, in five matches.

Even Swans are 0.75/match away, and WBA at 1/match at home, despite having played the best scoring away team, Arsenal (2.2/match away).

So, seriously, these are not good fixtures for City forwards.

Stats are ever changing, They could put 4 or 5 past either Norwich or Sunderland easily, they put 4 past United. Also, Silva was out for 3 of the games you mention, He is arguably their main creative player, People posting stats without using insight and ignoring factors like this is becoming a pain.

I already said, Norwich and Sunderland matches are certainly good fixtures. It is the four after them that I'm worried about.

Silva is a factor, of course. But is he that big a factor? The player who last season produced biggest absolute number of clear cut chances for City was not Silva, it was Nasri, despite playing much less. Has Silva affected City's scoring radically this season? No, he hasn't. He was involved in scoring 3 goals against West Ham, but for example, the ManU match you mention, he did not play at all. He was held by two defences conceding more at home than Sot'on at home or Spurs away in his last two away matches (Moscoz and Chelsea).

So, you come up with an actual argument and we'll see about insight then. It's quite arrogant to come and say we who add detail to the FFS posts "lack insight" and "are becoming a pain", when you yourself contribute nothing. Perhaps then FFS is becoming a pain to you too, since they only have given you the table position of the opponents. I'm only adding factors to what they have posted, not reducing them.

Your posting stats to convince yourself against bringing in city players who are scoring well, Your stats, ie using data is based on Silvas omission so they will not be the same going foward, Here's a stat for you, Aguero 6 goals in his last 4 league games and 2 in his last game in European game. Keep it simple, why wouldnt you want him. Who will play more , Nasri or Silva ? Keep trying to convince yoursel and come back to see me in a month or so.

And no, I'm not posting stats to "convince myself" anything. I'm looking for a new high-hitting midfielder, and Silva is an obvious option there. I have explained above, why I think he is much riskier than people seem to think now. And it has everything to do with the fixtures, which are presented as optimal above, but don't seem optimal for scoring goals after the next two matches. So, I'm trying to have a discussion about these fixtures in order to have more perspectives and become better informed, which is not at all helped by boneheads like yourself not understanding the word "fixture" and just shouting how good City is.

This is a fixtures post. You are talking about player forms, or abilities, but that is not the question here. Aguero having scored in last few games does not tell anything about how good are City's next 6 fixtures. It is said up there that City has the top fixtures. Which is why we talk about the fixtures. And these fixtures do not seem that good on a closer look. After the next two, the last 4 of the 6 are quite risky. So try to stick to the point, the section that addresses player forms is known as the Watchlist.

And let me help you recognize the correct indicator for effect to team scoring: try to see how much the team scores with and without the player, how much they create chances and particularly clear cut chances (long shots have a universal low conversion ratio). That way you can deduce something about the one thing we were talking about: will City score significantly more against tough oppositions than they have done without Silva. If they do not score significantly more with him, then the best guess is that the ratio will stay similar, which gives 0-1 goals against Spurs and Southampton, and that does not scream a high return from the attacking players.

The teams they have so far played away, have conceded at home as follows:

        Villa: 1.8/match (City 2)
        Stoke: 0.5/match (City 0)
        Chelsea: 0.6/match (City 1)
        Cardiff: 1.2/match (City 2)
        West Ham: 1.6/match (City 3)

Only Stoke and Chelsea defend well at home. City scored combined 1 goal in those two matches. All in all, it has hardly been able to surpass the averages. basically just against West Ham, where they scored 3.

Think about it. What is the realistic expectation from matches against WBA and So'ton? I'd say 1-2 goals at WBA and 0-1 at So'ton. Then Spurs, 1-2, since City has always scored at home. Swans, tougher, I'd say 2.

If the goals are distributed at all between players, nobody will get massive scores. Do you trust that Aguero will score their every goal in those matches from Silva's assist? If not, I'm not sure they are much worth buying. Particularly the rather expensive Silva.
