Our refresh of the Watchlist rankings gets underway as we roll out our player recommendations over the next four-to-six Gameweeks. First up, we assess the potential on offer from Goalkeepers and Defenders – Swansea hold firm yet again, though West Ham and Chelsea could be poised to take advantage of some kind upcoming matches:

Goalkeepers

Michel Vorm retains top spot as Swansea’s kind run of games continues. The Dutchman has now registered back-to-back clean sheets and has Cardiff, Stoke and Fulham in the next three to further his climb up the Fantasy rankings; Ashley Williams’ return from injury merely strengthens his appeal, though the latter’s kinder price and bonus point potential may see Fantasy managers overlook the Dutchman.

Simon Mignolet and Artur Boruc both hold steady in the top three. Granted, Mignolet has now conceded in each of the last six and has a trip to Arsenal up next but the subsequent fixtures very much remain in his favour. Boruc retains a high position ahead of games against Stoke and Hull but the schedule from Gameweek 12 onwards looks a real test of the outstanding resilience that has harvested five clean sheets in six.

Villa’s Brad Guzan climbs this week. The US stopper remains 11 points clear of any defensive team-mate and has a very strong schedule (whm, CAR, wba, SUN, sou, ful) as he attempts to improve upon a run which has seen him concede twice in three of the last four – his save point potential could be crucial, though there are cheaper alternatives at the back for Paul Lambert’s side.

Home games against Villa and Fulham, allied with trips to Norwich and Palace in the next five affords Jussi Jaaskelainen a climb in this week’s refresh. Certainly, those away fixtures hands the Hammers man further chance to extend an outstanding record on the road than has seen him beaten just the once, whilst Sam Allardyce’s side will be optimistic of improving upon a home record than has shipped six goals in the last two. Up to second in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) keeper standings, Jaaskelainen has earned save points in five of the opening nine Gameweeks but, as we’ll see, his 5.5 price tag may count against him when assessing West Ham options at the back.

Steve Harper remains in our thoughts as a result of an injury to Hull number one Allan McGregor – at 4.0, he’s the cheapest keeper on option in FPL and has home games against Sunderland and Palace in the next three as the Tigers look to extend a record which has seen them concede once in four games at the KC.

Norwich’s John Ruddy has home games against West Ham and Palace on the horizon and has registered a clean sheet in two of the last four at Carrow Road, whilst Asmir Begovic welcomes Southampton, Sunderland and Cardiff to the Britannia in the next five matches – he has earned save points five times already in addition to four bonus points.

Although the fixtures fall kindly for Petr Cech, the Chelsea stopper is likely to be overlooked in favour of more attacking options in the Stamford Bridge back-four. Nevertheless, his security of starts earns the Blues stopper a place in the top 10 – having conceded in each of the last five, he hardly makes a persuasive case for consideration, though is, somewhat surprisingly, level on points with Branislav Ivanovic; a sign of his save point potential.

With Ben Foster still on the sidelines, Boaz Myhill welcomes Palace and Villa to the Hawthorns in the upcoming three – the 4.5 priced West Brom man will be looking to return to the form that had seen him concede just twice in four games prior to last week’s trip to Anfield.

Defenders

Back after an ankle injury, Ashley Williams climbs to the summit after a clean sheet and maximum bonus in Sunday’s draw against West Ham. Coming in at 4.8, the Swansea skipper is the most budget-friendly option amongst Michael Laudrup’s regulars ahead of the above-mentioned schedule.

Chelsea’s kind run of fixtures also affords Branislav Ivanovic the chance of further returns. Jose Mourinho’s side square up to Newcastle, West Brom, West Ham, Southampton, Sunderland, Stoke and Palace over the next seven fixtures and, whilst the Serbian currently trails John Terry in the overall standings, he still offers greater goal threat than his skipper. With Gary Cahill replacing David Luiz in the last two in all competitions, it looks a straight fight between Ivanovic and Terry for our Fantasy attentions – the latter could easily oust his team-mate in our estimations over the next week or two.

Glen Johnson retains his top three placing despite a weekend clash with Arsenal. The Liverpool defender offers an out of position prospect on the right of midfield ahead of games against Fulham, Hull, Norwich and West Ham in the next six – with little on offer from the Reds midfield until the return of Philippe Coutinho, Johnson’s 5.7 price tag continues to look kind.

West Ham’s Razvan Rat makes a significant climb in our estimations this week. With the fixtures in his favour, the Romanian – who has now started each of the last five – comes in at a mere 4.5 after dropping in price and now seems as secure a pick as the pricier Winston Reid into Sam Allardyce’s backline.

Games against Tottenham, Liverpool, United and Arsenal in the next six are enough to force Leighton Baines down a little – the 7.7 priced Everton left-back likely to rely on attacking returns in order to prosper, while Jan Vertonghen is another premium option whose schedule turns a little stiffer. The Spurs man racked up 12 points last weekend but now has Everton, City, United and Liverpool in the next seven – a tough task to replicate the resilience that has harvested five clean sheets in nine.

Matija Nastasic gets the nod ahead of three home games in four for City. The youngster has now started six of the last seven and, while his side have been poor on their travels, they have, nonetheless, shipped just two goals at the Etihad thus far – with Vincent Kompany edging towards a return and uncertainties over Joe Hart in goal, Nastasic, at 5.5, looks a secure route into Manuel Pellegrini’s defence and is the only defender to have been named in the XI for each of the last three.

At 4.5, Curtis Davies offers the greatest attacking threat of any Hull defender in light of their upcoming schedule, while Nathaniel Clyne, at 4.6, remains the cheapest route into a Southampton side with just three goals against all season. For Stoke, Robert Huth has recovered from the ankle knock sustained against United last Saturday and has shown plenty goal threat for Mark Hughes’ side without yet breaking his duck – his aerial menace in the opposition box is enough to earn him a place ahead of his fellow Potters team-mates.

Michael Turner is available for 4.4 – compared to John Ruddy’s 5.0 – and looks the most secure of Chris Hughton’s budget defenders, while midlands-based duo Ron Vlaar and Liam Ridgewell are your best routes into the Villa and West Brom defences – we were keen to retain Antonio Luna but are uncertain over his fitness after he was subbed off at half-time last weekend; Nathan Baker is also an option for those with faith in the Villa backline – he has started three of the last four and comes in at just 3.9 in FPL.

With an assist in two of the last three, Patrice Evra has shown plenty of attacking intent down the United left but with Arsenal, Spurs and Everton in the next five, the champions’ run of five games without a clean sheet highlights their problems at the back. David Moyes’ rotation in the centre of defence and on the right makes the Frenchman the safest option for those who reckon an upturn in resilience is just around the corner.

Yes. Unless he took so much out of himself digging coal out of a mine for ten hours a day.,every day of the week. He may have a little black dust in his lungs but I am convinced he will be able to cope with another shift as he maybe getting over time pay.

So his kids will get there extra Xmas presents and a good feast at Santa time.

Sturridge is probably the most selfish and direct striker in the Prem. He's also in an incredible run of form. On top of this, Liverpool do not have CL games to worry a fantasy manager about.

If I was on a WC, then yes, perhaps I'd want Aguero this week but I'm not and I think I'm going to have to ride this week out and take stock next week.

It has been working out so far, but Liverpool aren't going to be banging the goals in every single game. And when they have a dry game, you'll pay the price having both Suarez and Sturridge. I'd keep Suarez and get Benteke in.

Yep, it's going to end at some point.

Thing is, with a 3-5-2 formation and Coutinho back, Rodger's may well have the attitude, "we'll score one more than you"!

Would love for Sturridge to out score Suarez this week, just to make the tactic of owning both profitable.

Theres nothing wrong with having suarez and sturridge. Sturridge is only better with suarez there. We have seen it hasnt affected him at all except hell get more assists. Suarez is clearly better. But sturridge should do very well. Until you see sturridge start to do bad then id just keep him.

They're good players you're bringing in, no doubt, but haven't you kind of missed the boat? For me, it would rankle that I was bringing in 3 players that have risen in price so much. Also for a hit.

Take a look at the fixtures and see which forwards / mids are playing the likes of Newcastle, Norwich, Palace, Fulham, Cardiff over the next 3 gameweeks, and plan for those.

So do I chase my ML leader who is 97 points ahead, or hope to stay in contact by matching his popular big hitters and use my 'skill' with DGW's, Form etc to win in the long run? Its a big game right?

    For example

    ME -

    Ozil MIchu
    Soldado, Sturridge, Lukaku

    HIM

    Hazard Oscar
    Suarez Aguero Giroud

He just brings in the points for the week before and this season has rewarded that.

So basically I can do Soldado > Aguero to 'match' the popular obvious pick

Or Soldado > Benteke OR Negredo to chase differential points.

Whats the general consesus? Never chased such a big amount before, especially this early.

He's extremely likely to captain Aguero this week. You could bring in Suarez and captain him to give him something to stew over.

At the moment he's laughing because Suarez + Aguero is comfortably superior to Soldado + Sturridge / Lukaku.

Don't be too hasty to get rid of Lukaku though - he's a potential captain pick next weekend.

Thanks for the advice, appreciate it.

Problem is he isnt all that conventional.

For example I know one transfer he used for a HIT this week was De Gea > Boruc (matching my keeper), without obviously looking at the fixtures upcoming beyond 2 GW's time.

I wouldn't be suprised if he captains Suarez once again, he's much more likely to follow form than fixtures IMO. Plus to get Suarez in (2.2mill in bank and lots invested in Sturridge) i'd have to take a hit to replace Soldado, or lose a big amount on Sturridge.

I'm really happy with Lukaku, I like him as a cheap option who is very capable of being explosive.

I do still like your idea, but its very frustrating he has the two in form strikers and I have neither.

Have a look at his team to see if he rates Arsenal. If there's just Giroud then he may fancy Liverpool and Suarez's chances. But the fact is you're looking at losing more ground this week without a bit of luck - Aguero, Suarez, Hazard and Oscar are ridiculously good picks for this weekend. Sorry!

One differential is Silva. Don't know if he's captain material, but he's on set pieces and may return a couple of assists. Think he scored against Norwich last season and is looking sharp. I've brought him in for Barkley ahead of Hazard / Oscar this week.

He has Mertesacker, Ramsey and Giroud... So the Palace game worked out pretty well for him!

I'd been stung by Silva before and he is one i've been considering, but again i'd only be able to get him in for a hit as I dont want to lose Ozil or Michu yet and he will probably end up assisting Aguero, so yeah your point about losing more ground this week is a very valid one!

Any transfer I do is not going to match the coverage he has on these games, so I suppose the high risk/reward thing to do would be the unthinkable. Instead of getting Aguero for example, would be to avoid City/Chelsea players and hope they blank. Hope Sturridge matches Suarez and hope by differentials succeed.

            My team is:

            Boruc, Marshall
Zabaletta, Davies (inj), Coleman, Ward, G.Johnson
Michu, Ozil, Ravel Morrison, Brady, Ben Arfa
            Soldado, Sturridge, Lukaku

As much as I like him as a player, Ben Arfa is stinking up your midfield and he isn't cheap. Another priority with the Everton away fixture in mind is Soldado. Tottenham fans have been very vocal about how defensive they're playing at the minute.

In your shoes, I'd serious consider Sessegnon or Pablo Hernandez in for Ben Arfa and (you may love this or think I'm mad!) Torres in for Soldado. Torres looks a different player - yes he's still missing chances, but he's looking confident, has a yard of pace back, and I'd consider captaining him away at Newcastle who are in BIG trouble at the minute.

All imo of course 🙂 Good luck!

The other option (and much safer) is to do Soldado > Aguero and Ben Arfa > cheapie and captain Aguero. You may match his captain (make him worry if he goes Suarez(c)), and worse case scenario, not lose too much ground.

Wow, I really do appreciate all the advice!

I do like P.Hernandez, but wanting to wait until i'm sure he's 100% fit as Laudrup seems to be very cautious with him - great fixtures though!

I need to check Sessegnons stats - I must admit he's not been on my radar since 2 seasons ago !

Arfa was my plan to go this week originally, and for quite a while, but had to offload Erriksen first. He's at a very annoying price level!

Torres (captain) is really really on my mind right now.

I'm going to sleep on these options, I can afford the 0.1 mill rise of Aguero tonight so no rush...

Aye, i'm really hoping the DGW's help.

The guy I mentioned has basically followed every bandwagon from day 1. Ramsey etc.

GW1 he had all sorts of dross and he still has Whittaker etc on the bench. Which is a clear sign of chasing points. But can hardly knock it when its worked!

I think you have to be wary of putting down the success of another as down to luck. The way to improve at this game is to pay in a competive ML where you are not relying on players lack of knowledge to give you the edge.

Oscar should be plenty I reckon.

If I still had that money tied up in RVP i'd be tempted to captain as a very good differential now. I held onto RVP until maybe GW6, as I felt compelled to justify the price by handing him the armband.

This looks a perfect fixture though to be honest, and he's nailed on and playing well ahead of Rooney.

          Good luck!

What's with all the Rooney ditching?!

He's in red hot form and plays Fulham. FULHAM!

More scared of not having Augero to be honest. Was originally going to do Zabaleta - Williams and Eriksen - Silva

Yep, would not be selling any striker before a Fulham game 🙂

A little, I'm very happy with my Rooney - Sturridge- Lukaku frontline for now though.

Dont worry.. one aguero blank and lukaku brace will change things. Then ull see a whole lot of aguero to lukakus.... lol
