Philippe Coutinho is back for Liverpool’s trip to the Emirates after recovering from a shoulder injury. Robert Snodgrass remains a doubt for Norwich’s visit to City, Pablo Osvaldo may return for Southampton at Stoke, Sam Allardyce expects James Tomkins to take his place against Aston Villa, who have concerns over Gabby Agbonlahor, while Arsene Wenger hopes Mathieu Flamini could be back for next weekend’s trip to Old Trafford:

Chris Hughton has a number of concerns in midfield ahead of Norwich’s trip to City. The Canaries boss will continue to monitor Robert Snodgrass after he was knocked unconscious and stretchered off at United in midweek after a clash of heads. Nathan Redmond is also a doubt after picking up a problem in the same game and Alex Tettey is set to be sidelined for the Etihad clash:

“We’ll see on Robert, we’ll make sure we make the right decision. We know what the facts are – he was released late on Tuesday night and he’s fine, but we need to make sure he’s recovered sufficiently. Nathan felt a muscle just above his right hip, so we just have to see how that recovers over the next couple of days. There’s a doubt over both of them, but we’re not ruling either of them out. Alex will be out though. He took a whack to an area just above his ankle, and we’ll find out over the next couple of days how long that injury will be but we don’t expect it to be a short time.”

Philippe Coutinho has handed Brendan Rodgers a major boost ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Arsenal. The Brazilian will return to the squad for the first time since suffering a shoulder injury in Gameweek 4 and could be handed the role in “the hole” behind Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge, while at the back, Jose Enrique remains a doubt, according to his manager:

“Jose will be a question mark for the weekend, but Coutinho is great. He’s been given the all clear by the specialist to come in. He’s been training for the last few weeks, so he’ll come back into the squad.”

Southampton could be set to welcome back Pablo Osvaldo and Steven Davis for tomorrow’s trip to Stoke. The pair missed out last week, allowing Rickie Lambert and James Ward-Prowse a chance to return to the XI, but Mauricio Pochettino is optimistic they could be ready for the Britannia:

“Osvaldo and Steven Davis are better from last week, but again, they need to be evaluated today and tomorrow and we still need to see if they will be able to travel with us on Saturday.”

Sam Allardyce expects James Tomkins to recover from a knock picked up at Burnley in midweek, though the Hammers boss has revealed Matt Taylor is sidelined for the visit of Villa tomorrow. The recent 4-6-0 formation looks likely to continue as the forward line is hit hard with injuries – Andy Carroll remains out, Mladen Petric is hampered with a calf complain, Ricardo Vaz Te has suffered a dislocated shoulder, while Carlton Cole is still not fit enough to start a match, as Allardyce revealed to the club’s official website:

“Matt Taylor is definitely out, James Tomkins I think will be ok and the rest of the injured players will not figure in Saturday’s squad against Villa. It leaves us with quite a big problem in terms of numbers. We’re very short of first team squad players available for Saturday so it’s about getting on with the job and using the players we’ve got available and making sure they try and bring us the three points at home that we’re looking for….He’s (Carlton Cole) not quite ready for a Premier League start. He played on Tuesday night and that’s the equivalent of game three of his pre-season, game three of pre-season for us was Boreham Wood not Burnley away.”

Villa also have concerns for the showdown with Allardyce’s side, though. Paul Lambert rolled out an injury update yesterday afternoon and revealed Antonio Luna is set to be sideline with the hamstring injury that forced him off at the break last weekend – fellow left-back Joe Bennett is a doubt, though, with Ciaran Clark looking the likeliest to deputise, with Nathan Baker (3.9 in FPL) retaining the slot alongside Ron Vlaar in the heart of defence. Lambert also has concerns over Gabby Agbonlahor, with Aleksandar Tonev perhaps set for a second consecutive start as the visitors look to address a run which has seen them fail to score in the last three:

“Gabby is a doubt. His ankle has not really recovered from when he first got it injured. Antonio is struggling with his hamstring at the minute. He’ll be a few weeks out. Joe Bennett has a sore back at the minute so we’ll see how he is.”

Arsene Wenger reckons Mathieu Flamini could make a quick return from the groin problem sustained against Palace last weekend and is hopeful the central midfielder may be in the frame for next week’s trip to United. The Gunners boss has ruled youngster Serge Gnabry out of contention to face Liverpool tomorrow evening, though.

Reports in the local press indicate both Robbie Brady and Sone Aluko are rated “less than 50-50” to be fit for Hull’s home game against Sunderland, while Alex Bruce joins Allan McGregor and James Chester on the sidelines for the Tigers.

Alan Pardew has confirmed Fabricio Coloccini is almost certainly out of Newcastle’s home game against Chelsea, while Steven Taylor is believed to have suffered a setback to a hamstring problem and may not return until after the international break. With Paul Dummett also out due to a hamstring injury, the Magpies are down to the bare bone as Chelsea roll up to St Hames’ Park tomorrow:

“Colo’s running outside. I think Colo’s got a chance for Spurs, but I don’t think he’s got a chance for this weekend. Tayls is a bit further behind.”

West Brom boss Steve Clarke was somewhat non-committal ahead of an enticing home showdown with Palace. The Baggies boss would only by say:

“In terms of availability, our squad will not be too dissimilar to last weekend.”

Fantasy owners of Morgan Amalfitano will be hoping of further insight into his availability after the Frenchman was subbed off in last week’s defeat by Liverpool – assistant head-coach Kevin Keen admitted on Wednesday there’s a chance the right midfielder may not be fit in time for the home clash against Palace, with James Morrison poised to deputise.

Fantasy Football Scout Daily Hot Topic

Sessegnon provided one of the truly great moments in FPL history on 11 December 2012. It was a double gameweek and many of the FFS community had the armband on him. We were set for disappointment and then like the true great he is Sessegnon eased in a goal in the 90th minute of the final game of the double. Fantasy Football Scout went wild, ticker tape parades were arranged and grown men fainted. It was like VE day in 60 seconds.

      True Story:
Won my ML 2 seasons ago as i had Aguero(c) on the final day. i was behind the leader until aguero scored the 94th minute goal. Brought me level with my ML leader and i won that season as i made less transfers!! one of the greatest moments of my life tbh

      Honorable mentions:
Keeping Valencia while he was out injured for 4 weeks and suffering price drops(had mclena off the bench those 4 weeks to save me 😉 ) and him repaying my faith with a 18 point haul the game he reached back!! (Mirallas's goal and assist 2 weeks ago also!)

Very few spring to mind at the moment, I'm either feeling a little morose or I simply haven't had many of these moments.

Mignolet's penalty save first game of the season was good though - sealed a more or less perfect game for me (Mignolet CS and penalty save, Toure CS and Sturridge goal). Been rapidly downhill since!

From 4th to 1st in my minileague by captaining Suarez last week, when as a pool fan I knew all the StudrridgevSuarez chat was poor. Even though I don't like the chap playing for my team I recognise him as FPL gold.
I'll still boo him from the Arsenal side of support this weekend at the emirates (as a gooner my ML rival will also be booing)!

up until a few seasons ago, the phnom penh post used to sponsor a mini league in cambodia. small weekly prizes and an ipad for the winner. the weekly winner got his team in the paper, which was a treat. gw13 in 2010 was a happy time - bale and vdv tearing it up.

Walcott's 3 goals and 2 assists last year against Newcastle.

I believe he was a doubt before a match, everybody in my ML shipped him out but i stuck with him and got rewarded big time.

Whenever a DGW comes around I always find myself wanting to captain a defender (e.g BAE and Ivanovic and I bottled both) but this year will captaining a defender be even more tempting with the resurgence in clean sheets and bonus points for defenders?

I think I will start Brady because he hasn't been ruled which is positive as I feared Bruce would rule him out.

He has showed earlier despite being a doubt for that game , he can score double figure points like the Newcastle game.

So it would be a bad move to bench him imo.

Favourite fantasy moment has to be last day of last season... Really tight battle for top spot in our money league between me and a mate. We both had very similar teams with a couple of small differences and I went into the last day with a few points advantage. He had Sturridge as captain at home to QPR and Bale at home to Sunderland whereas I had Lukaku at home to Man Utd and Nolan against whoever West Ham had. I got the text rubbing it in that Lukaku had been benched and he was gonna overtake me. Of course when Coutinho scored in about the 10th minute he had already gone above me and I felt like I couldn't watch but I had to. I sat desperately hoping for no Sturridge goals and hoping Nolan would get something. I then got another mocking text and with there being about 50 quid on the line but much more pride after a long season of mickey taking eachother, I then decided I couldn't take it and went out. I decided to not check my phone and watched MOTD that night not knowing what had happened in the 2nd halves so that I could at least try and enjoy the battle for Champions League. Was incredibly surprised when WBA Vs Man Utd was on so early but assumed it was just because of it being Fergie's last game. On comes Lukaku in the 2nd half to bang in a hatrick and suddenly I'm watching the rest desperately hoping for no more Sturridge goals. Bale bangs in a late winner and I know hes guaranteed yet more bonus points for the other guy so when Nolan proceeded to also bag a hatrick, I was jumping around the room making Gary Neville-esque noises. Yes, of course I bought him a drink out of my winnings but boy oh boy have I not let him forget about it 😀

We'll, Rooney plays deeper and second fiddle to RVP.

Aguero is main man, more explosive and on fire.

When's the last time Rooney scored a few braces or a Hattie?

Anyone else when they look back at there fpl season think it lacks excitement. I rarely get huge scores (75+), or pick an explosive captain, just gently chug along. This season for example, I've scored below 50 just once (which is fairly good going), yet my highest score so far is just 69. My captain picks have be decent by nothing to shout about. Need Aguero to lighten my season up this week...

😀 Don't get me wrong, it's a good score, but you need more than that to make good progress in the ranks.

So no news on Amalfitano yet. I would keep him on in case he plays but the worst case scenario is he gets taken off at 45min again and gets 1pt...

Should I play it safe and start Ravel over him?

I think we'll go for the more defensively solid Henderson and unleash Coutinho off the bench. We'll need to boss midfield, so the additional body there in Henderson will do the world of good.

I think Suarez is the "safest" option if there's one although Michu is also great captain potential despite his blanks in recent weeks.

So as the Brady situation looks uncertain should I start either Barkley or Mertesacker over him?

No. If he doesn't play you'll have either of those. If he does play you won't have him unless the guy you have for him doesn't play, which is unlikely.
