Sunday’s pair of fixtures provided us with a single goal and worries over two of the most popular Fantasy assets in the game after Michu and Romelu Lukaku both failed to finish their respective fixtures. Steven Caulker grabs the winner for Cardiff over former club Swansea, whilst Jan Vertonghen climbs to the top of the defender standings to justify his premium price tag:

Caulker the Bluebirds Hero
The summer signing grabbed the only goal of the game as Malky Mackay’s side prevailed in the South Wales derby. With two goals to his name since arriving from Tottenham, Caulker is now Cardiff’s joint-top scorer and has also accrued nine bonus points after yesterday’s match – more than double the tally of any of his team-mates. Initially priced at 5.0 in FPL, the centre-half has failed to pick up much Fantasy interest – he currently sits in just 2% of teams – but has now reached 48 points for the season; the same number as Everton’s Seamus Coleman, for example, and just one less that former Tottenham team-mate Kyle Walker. Elsewhere in the home defence, Ben Turner earned his highest return of the campaign; with a couple of bonus points accrued, the 4.0 priced defender is now up to 27 points but while he’s proving decent value, trails far behind his fellow Cardiff centre-half.

Michu Worry for Swans
Without a goal in the four league games prior to yesterday’s 1-0 defeat, it’s fair to say the Spaniard has toiled in recent weeks. Many Fantasy managers have chosen to keep faith as a result of Swansea’s fixtures but after limping out of the derby, the exodus is picking up pace – already, significant numbers have parted company since yesterday’s match. After the game, Laudrup cast doubts over his star midfielder’s availability for the weekend home game against Stoke:

“Michu is not 100% right now. He is struggling with some physical problems and on top of that he had to leave the pitch with another twisted ankle so probably he will be out for a couple of games.”

The Swans boss will definitely be without Michael Vorm for the Potters showdown after the Dutchman received his marching orders for denying a goalscoring opportunity – he will sit out a one-match ban and return for the Gameweek 12 trip to Fulham.

Vertonghen Proves his Worth
The Belgian was again fielded at left-back as Michael Dawson and Vlad Chiriches were handed the centre-half roles at Goodison. Everton had scored in each of the previous six but were denied by Andre Villas-Boas’ backline, who have now gone three consecutive games without conceding – indeed, yesterday’s clean sheet was their seventh of the season already. Vertonghen’s propensity to pick up bonus points also came to the fore – his maximum haul means he now has 12 this term, equalling his tally for the whole of the previous campaign. More significantly, yesterday’s nine-point haul took the 7.1 priced Belgian to the top of the defender rankings on 61 points, though with City and United in the next three, many may hold fire in investing for now.

Elsewhere at the back, Villas-Boas defended his decision to keep Hugo Lloris on the pitch after the keeper sustained a head injury in a collision with Romelu Lukaku. The Spurs boss admitted the Frenchman has no recollection of the incident but went on to confirmed Lloris is β€œwell” in his post-match interview.

Toffees Resolute
Leighton Baines and co also picked up the points, with the goalless draw handing Everton their fifth clean sheet of the season. While Vertonghen’s ability to deliver bonus shows no sign of slowing, 7.7 priced Baines has suffered in recent weeks – he has failed to deliver any bonus in each of the last two Gameweeks, despite his side delivering a clean sheet on both occasions. Nonetheless, yesterday’s result saw him make a move up the leaderboard to justify his premium price tag – he’s now sitting third for defenders but, like Tottenham, has some tricky fixtures on the horizon, with Liverpool, United and Arsenal in the next five.

Barkley Warms the Bench
The Toffees midfielder dropped out of the starting line-up for the first time this terms as Leon Osman returned to the XI after producing a goal and assist against Villa last weekend. Clearly, Martinez is keen to protect the youngster and it was noticeable that prior to yesterday’s match his game time had dropped – 79 minutes in Gameweek 8, then just 59 minutes at Villa Park. Despite dropping from 5.7 to 5.6 in FPL last week, Barkley remains the third most popular midfielder in the game, with 35% ownership – yesterday’s sub role, allied with the fact he has now gone four fixtures without a goal or assist, looks set to signal plenty sales.

Lukaku Concern for Martinez
The big Belgian’s 25% FPL owners will be somewhat concerned after he was forced off towards the end following the collision with Lloris. Martinez admitted Lukaku was withdrawn after picking up a thigh problem in the clash – given that he had notched five times in five prior to yesterday’s match and now has a trip to basement-dwellers Palace up next, he looks a real captaincy contender for next weekend. An injury update will be anxiously awaited, with would-be suitors perhaps putting their plans on hold until Martinez gives us further prognosis.

My team's on the sheet. I've been sensible all season but I couldn't contain myself this week and got a little carried away:

          Sturridge -> Suarez
          Michu -> Gerrard
          Ozil -> Hazard

I plan on Walcott long term so I wanted to free the Ozil funds for Suarez.

MJ, WR, and BJ yet to fill out their teams on the spreadsheet.

Should AVB have been duty bound to have taken Lloris off ?....Should the referee have been duty bound to have ordered Lloris off ?

I know it is bad and shht, but it is the mans health and if he wants to continue than they should allow him. And Lloris clearly wanted to play on

it is not like boxing where you get multiple head trauma. The risk there was that if that sort of thing would have happened again, it could have been bad. I think it was a calculated risk and it payd off

No thats not the point. When you have a head injury the person injured might not be best placed (judgement wise) to decide on his own well being. AVB should have had him subbed off immediately. Poor show from AVB.

    2. 42 Rules
      • 13 Years

Yes. If he suffers further down the line, I reckon Lloris would have a case to take AVB to court. There was a big thing in American Football a few years ago and now its starting to be looked at in rugby - only a matter of time.

      1. Dr Dream
        • 13 Years
        12 years, 1 month ago

Agreed...If a ref orders a player off on safety/health grounds then perhaps they should have the power to allow a free substitution.

      2. Kostja
        • 14 Years
        12 years, 1 month ago

big difference though as the reoccurrance of the head injury is the worry which rarely happens in football. Like in boxing why they often stop the fight now after a knockdown is that once getting knocked down is ok, but twice is already life threatning. And that happens in rugby and American Football but rarely in Soccer

I think the decision shouldn't lie with the player in the case of a potentially serious head injury,,it surely must be safety first...

        • 14 Years
        12 years, 1 month ago

Well I kind of agree with you a little bit. Especially in cases where it is a fringe player fighting for his place and trying to figth with everything to get a spot. But when a nailed on experienced player wants to go on and play I have no problem with it. Given the low frequency of these incidents I dont see why we would need to have a rule in place. And all these head injury specialists complaining can feck off, there are a thousand things in the world that are causing cancer and injuries constantly and nobody cares. This is a non issue IMO

No - he will have lost his ability to make the right decision as he has just had a head injury and will have lost consciousness. The manager should make the call with counsel from the medic.

Morning. I'm still a rookie here, first FPL season and 38 years old - probably casual - from Poland(Do casuals read this site πŸ˜‰ ? ) After errors, mistakes I've 566 overall points and ready for GW11 team like this:

    Mignolet (Daniels)
    Baines-Davis (inj)-Chamber (non playing)-Terry-Fonte
    Silva-Oscar-Ravel-Ramsey-Lallana
    Suarez-Aguero-Lukaku (75%)

I'm under "Forca Effect" thinking that his wild card team will be the best strategy till winter break. So question, is it worth to take -12 hit after GW11 and have team like this (imo holy trinity Suarez-Aguero-Rooney can compensate loss of 12 points):

    Mignolet (Daniels)
    Dawson-Davis-Terry-Rat-Fonte
    Siva-Oscar-Amalfitano-Ravel-Ramsey
    Suarez-Aguero-Rooney

So basically, you're doing Baines, Chambers, Lallana, Lukaku to Rat, Dawson, Amalfitano and Rooney. I am not sure if that will pay off really.. Not this week..

I think he can get about 10-13 goals more this season. Sounds good for someone who's 8.3 million and has assist potential. Doesn't sound good at all when he's name is Torres.

Strongly considering migs to schezney after next weekend.

Main reasoning even if migs gets a cleanie on sat 1 in 8 games is poor and arsenal look more solid and is a cheaper option.

Also after next game arsenal would have played 3 of their rivals , pool only played 2 , so long term I think wos could be a great differential after the united game.

    Thoughts

i chose chesney over migs at start and he went through same run as migs has now, so still think it could go either way, could you not ride it out till xmas WC

Also nearly all my ml has migs , so would be nice having a differential.

          Would be after int break

So, do we think Michu is 100% out of the Stoke game, or could he be rested for Europa league and recover to play?

At his price, and the replacements you could consider, he's got to worth a hit to remove if he's 100% out?

I'm not sure this latest injury is really the issue with Michu - more important is that he looks worn out, might be carrying other small injuries, and generally on poor form. I would have transferred him out this week anyway

When do you have to decide by? Is this for one week only, or longer term?

Spurs don't seem to be scoring much, and Lukaka has a knock, so could be decent, although Torres is uncertain, Sagbo is surely a no no, and Gouffran is ok, after this week for a couple of decent fixtures.

Can't believe no one stepped in i.e: Medical Staff, AVB, Officials etc. to force Lloris off, obviously you'll get some players always wanting to play on but was so dangerous for him to carry on playing.

I agree, honestly I'm absolutely stunned. If he has no memory of the incident that is honestly a very serious thing and playing on could only make it worse. I hope he is okay but I reckon he'll be having all the necessary scans done today to check.
