An old friend grabbed the headlines this weekend as three red cards were handed out, while the Tightrope also welcomed a trio of new recruits to the rarefied atmosphere of their fourth yellow card.

No stranger to these pages (he even gets a mention in the first ever article in this series), Lee Cattermole racked up his eighth career red card on Saturday. The midfielder earned his fifth dismissal in just 88 games as a Sunderland player for a late and clumsy lunge on Hull City’s Ahmed Elmohamady – the Black Cats will now be without the combative ball-winner for the next three games as he sits out the midweek Capital One Cup tie against Southampton and upcoming league games against Manchester City and Stoke. Gus Poyet may turn to Craig Gardner as a replacement, though with four reds and 25 yellows in his last 83 league games he’s no stranger to a card or two either.

Joining Cattermole on the sidelines for the same three games will be his left-back colleague Andrea Dossena. Less than five minutes after the midfielder was sent packing, Dossena lost the ball and saw fit to recklessly jump into a tackle with David Meyler that left the former Sunderland man prostrate. The crimson flash duly followed, leaving Sunderland with a mountain to climb and some holes to fill until both men return for the Gameweek13 clash with Aston Villa.

Also of note in Sunderland’s nine-man loss to Hull – and highlighted post-match by a seething Gus Poyet – was a mis-timed, two footed, and off-the-ground challenge by the recently returned Robbie Brady late in the game. The referee, Andre Marriner, decided it merited only a yellow card, meaning it’s very unlikely Brady will see further action from the FA upon review of the incident.

Less likely to be reprieved is Fulham’s ever-present Sascha Riether, as his clear stamp on Adnan Januzaj during their loss to Manchester United went unpunished at the time. The right-back will now be subject to the full wrath of the suits at Soho Square – a three- match ban looks entirely likely for the German as we await more news.

Completion of the ban action this weekend came in the South Wales derby, with Swansea goalkeeper Michel Vorm given his marching orders for felling Frazier Campbell as he bore down on goal late in the game. For denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity, Vorm will sit out just a single game for the Jacks who will need to call on the services of Gerhard Tremmel for the visit of Stoke. Vorm will presumably now play away in Europe on Thursday and then return to league action in Gameweek 12 at Fulham.

On to the tightrope now, and a busy weekend saw midfielders Antonio Valencia, Jon Walters and Paulinho all climb aboard the high wire to test their balancing skills. Eight players are all vying to follow Lucas Leiva in picking up a single match ban – Valencia now has cards in his last two league appearances, while Paulinho goes one better with three cards in three league games. He now takes pole position as he faces up to Newcastle next weekend.

With Rafael out, do we think Vidic is guaranteed start if fit as Jones would cover RB? With that in mind, I would keep Vidic and do Ozil to Hazard this week, and paulinho to Walcott week after. Sound good?

Re-post - Different crowd, same questions coming up!

Flagged players/Price protection rules - from the FISO site:

There is no price protection during the period in which a player is flagged

Anyone who is flagged (red, or yellow) will still be able to increase and decrease in value.
The NTI (transfers IN) target stays the same.

However the NTO (transfers OUT) threshold for a price drop is approximately 2.5 times greater than the usual Threshold for price drops.

But their NTI target for increase does not change

If a player is red or yellow flagged for 2 days or more, once their icon goes back to grey, they are protected for 8 days.

It means that for the next 8 days their price is frozen. It can neither rise nor fall.

Once the 8 days is up, the player’s NTI or NTO is reset to zero and the normal rules of increases/decreases kick in from there.

Their price is only frozen once the flag is lifted, not whilst they are flagged

If they are only red/yellow flagged for 1 day
Then there is no protection period – just their NTI/NTO target is reset to zero and the normal rules of increases/decreases start from there.

Why is Zabaleta sold so he fell in price last night? Too many yellows? Just after city clean sheet.

For me it feels like city will do well from now, also will give more clean sheets.

So Zabaleta, Silva and Aguero for me.

Hopefully Michu wont fall in price again until Thursday at the earliest.

I want to delay my transfer until after the CL games.

It looks as though Oscar will go up in price tonight, but Hazard & Silva should not though.

When do the international squads get announced? If Oscar plays for Brazil, he will be rested GW13 for sure.

    Just a word on Özil.

    Stats are:

2 goals and 5 assists in 7 games meaning he has been involved, on average, in a goal a game.

Now there are 28 matches left in the season. Of course this level of return may change but, for argument sake, that would suggest he still has:

    2x4 = 8 goals and 5 x 4 = 20 assists in him.

Obviously this is based on pure extrapolation but, looking at those points it would mean he has 8x5 + 20x3 = 100 attacking points remaining to earn. Assuming he earns only 2 points per appearance (sometimes he may only get one, sometimes he will get three so it is a fair approximation) that's another 56 points. So that would be another 156 from him excluding any possible BPs. That would mean he would finish on 204 points for the season, higher than Michu, Walcott, Hazard, Silva (Even better than Silva from the season before as well) and 1 point below Santi from last season.

All of this is pure speculation, it certainly could fluctuate massively (decline through injury, fatigue etc. or increase with Arsenal signing a better finisher, getting even more comfortable playing with each other) and while it seems silly to focus just on Özil he is a player who can produce these kind of returns in a season, unlike Ramsey who is returning points that were very unexpected and may not necessarily be that kind of player who can keep producing.

Just a little food for thought for everyone considering turfing him.

Interesting. I suppose for someone buying now it's a tough one. Just remember that no BPs were included here so he could easily pick up 10 - 15 or more over the course of the season (I would have anticipated in 20ish range).

I wanted to bring Nastasic in before last week but talked myself out of taking the -4. Nastasic shouldbe great value and I would keep him for the rest of the season if he stays healthy.
I also did Michu to Silva. Looks great on paper, we'll just have to see wheher reality cooperates.
