An old friend grabbed the headlines this weekend as three red cards were handed out, while the Tightrope also welcomed a trio of new recruits to the rarefied atmosphere of their fourth yellow card.

No stranger to these pages (he even gets a mention in the first ever article in this series), Lee Cattermole racked up his eighth career red card on Saturday. The midfielder earned his fifth dismissal in just 88 games as a Sunderland player for a late and clumsy lunge on Hull City’s Ahmed Elmohamady – the Black Cats will now be without the combative ball-winner for the next three games as he sits out the midweek Capital One Cup tie against Southampton and upcoming league games against Manchester City and Stoke. Gus Poyet may turn to Craig Gardner as a replacement, though with four reds and 25 yellows in his last 83 league games he’s no stranger to a card or two either.

Joining Cattermole on the sidelines for the same three games will be his left-back colleague Andrea Dossena. Less than five minutes after the midfielder was sent packing, Dossena lost the ball and saw fit to recklessly jump into a tackle with David Meyler that left the former Sunderland man prostrate. The crimson flash duly followed, leaving Sunderland with a mountain to climb and some holes to fill until both men return for the Gameweek13 clash with Aston Villa.

Also of note in Sunderland’s nine-man loss to Hull – and highlighted post-match by a seething Gus Poyet – was a mis-timed, two footed, and off-the-ground challenge by the recently returned Robbie Brady late in the game. The referee, Andre Marriner, decided it merited only a yellow card, meaning it’s very unlikely Brady will see further action from the FA upon review of the incident.

Less likely to be reprieved is Fulham’s ever-present Sascha Riether, as his clear stamp on Adnan Januzaj during their loss to Manchester United went unpunished at the time. The right-back will now be subject to the full wrath of the suits at Soho Square – a three- match ban looks entirely likely for the German as we await more news.

Completion of the ban action this weekend came in the South Wales derby, with Swansea goalkeeper Michel Vorm given his marching orders for felling Frazier Campbell as he bore down on goal late in the game. For denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity, Vorm will sit out just a single game for the Jacks who will need to call on the services of Gerhard Tremmel for the visit of Stoke. Vorm will presumably now play away in Europe on Thursday and then return to league action in Gameweek 12 at Fulham.

On to the tightrope now, and a busy weekend saw midfielders Antonio Valencia, Jon Walters and Paulinho all climb aboard the high wire to test their balancing skills. Eight players are all vying to follow Lucas Leiva in picking up a single match ban – Valencia now has cards in his last two league appearances, while Paulinho goes one better with three cards in three league games. He now takes pole position as he faces up to Newcastle next weekend.

Replacements for Michu have probably been debated no end, but thought I'd throw my ideas out there. Top 3 replacements (in no order):

Silva - stats say Silva is the best replacement here, and City's attack is deadly at the moment so I'd have no worries about doubling up with Aguero. The main worry is rotation, but if City beat Moscow tomorrow their through the group stage so it's likely Silva will have a good run in the league. Price may be an issue for some though.

Coutinho - has nicest run of fixtuers, while Chelsea and City have nice fixtures they also face some tougher defences in Southampton, Swansea, West Ham, Tottenham and West Brom. Liverpool only have Everton in GW12 to worry about, otherwise they have Noriwch, Hull and Fulham. He is nicely priced after his injury, offers a differential with low ownership, has little rotation worry and gives your team some flair. Liverpool also face fewer fixtures than City and Chelsea due to no involvement in Europe

Hazard/Oscar - toss up between them. I prefer Hazard as he gets in the box a lot more than Oscar, but can understand going for Oscar due to his role in the hole. They have good upcoming fixtures and both are proven quality, the main doubt is inevitable rotation but it's hard to avoid with Chelsea's squad.

Henorable mention: Ozil, many are ditching but his stats are still great, the question mark here is the away form and with a trip to Man Utd is understandable that people are holding off.

Finally, your decision may be made for you depending on who else you have, an attacker from each of these teams is worthwhile so if your missing one then your hand is forced.

I've written a short post on my blog about this which you can find here: http://thefirsttouchblog.blogspot.co.uk/2013/11/player-rater-gw10-update.html

Solid, might even be better than Coutinho. Problem is your relying on pens and set-pieces which exhibit greater variance than chances from open play. I went with Coutinho because he's slightly cheaper and a little under the radar, also quite like a bit of flair that you don't get from Gerrard.

I went with Coutinho. I would have taken Silva if I could afford.
It feels like a punt to take Coutinho, concidering he hasn´t produced this year. But he is nailed on, has no matches in europe during the weeks and he is class I think.
I would like to have Chelsea coverage but I don´t like the fact that they have like 18 mifdielders to chose from.

      Great post btw! +1

    A) Lukaku to Suarez
    B) Lukaku to Sturridge
    C) Keep Lukaku

      C

Lukaku's home form is awful but his away form is pretty good (great game against Villa last time round). Would keep for Palace away then maybe look to ditch after that.

    Utd's next 4 league games:

Arsenal (H) - guaranteed defeat against the best team in the country, as the table proves
Cardiff (A) - tough game, beat City already
Spurs (A) - with Spurs goal history this season, guaranteed to be a 0-0 draw
Everton (H) - Moyes back at old club factor 😯

Utd could well be in the bottom have of the table mid December.

    FACT!!

      How very naive.

You win some you lose some, this game's based mostly on blind dumb luck, I'm sure you didn't claim he'd score a goal from a corner? Nasty in on a (-4) was very risky and 9/10 you'd come out with egg on your face.

Well done by the way, 2-0.

    Repost from this morning...

Michu is clearly suffering from SSS (second season syndrome)

    First year: 18g 3a
    Currently: 2g 1a

    Jelavic
First year: 9 goals in 954 mins
    Second year: 7g 2a in 2428 mins

    P.Cisse
    First year: 13g 2a in 1106 mins
    Second year: 8g 3a in 2999 mins

In conclusion, these players came into the league to prove a point. Once they've done that, they rarely have the same impact consistently.

We have been blinded by Michu's fixtures, and still expect him to produce as he did in 2012-13 🙁

Most on here preach form over fixtures, and Michu``s in dire form atm....

One difference between the 2, Michu is getting shots on target at the same volume and amount as last season, just getting more saved so far. Cisses shots dropped off on every aspect, even on pure volume. We could say he was lucky last season, but this season it seems he has been a bit unlucky. Also possibly his quality has suffered due to all the minor injuries as we find out now, as he started the game with an ankle injury and injured it again, manager also mentioned other injuries

If I get rid of Giroud I'll have 7.1 to play with and if I get rid of Lukaku I'll have 6.0.

I'm stuck on what to do. Rest of forward line looks as follows:

    Ozil Yaya Barkley Morrison
    Giroud Lukaku Suarez

Would it be bonkers to do El Ahmadi to the new £4m guy for a -4? My thinking is that ill free up cash and that this new guy will rise once he's not price protected, and then cash in on him on my January wildcard if there's a cheaper alternative.

Going into the Christmas Wildcard lots of players will have aimed for a high real team value which is the resale value plus money in the bank (RTV = RSV + MITB).

Having a high RTV obviously allows you to assimilate a kick ass team on your Christmas Wildcard to attack any deficits in the new year.

So, what is your RTV? Mine is a pathetic 100.5m after 15 changes, a sign of a team managed abhorrently.

      102.9

I missed out on early Barkley and Rambo madness, so it's not too bad.

Mines 102.1 (TV is 104.2) which I'm guessing is about average around here?

Question is, is that value useful this year? I've got Aguero, Rooney and Suarez but not struggling for funds elsewhere in my team.

Could be the difference between having to play a Ravel Morrison instead of a Ramsey.
