Our Monday lunchtime regular gives us time to pause and reflect on the lessons learned from the latest batch of fixtures. City’s blistering attack, Michu’s lack of form and fitness, Brendan Rodgers’ formation and the resurgent form of a certain Dutchman are all part of the agenda…

Michu’s Ankle Problem Could be the Final Straw
It’s five games without a goal now for the Swansea midfielder, with yesterday’s blank and subsequent withdrawal against Cardiff the latest in a line of poor performances. Arguably, Michu has been a victim of Swansea’s schedule – while Michael Laudrup continues to be tentative with Wilfried Bony’s game time, the Spaniard has been a constant in the starting XI for league and European duties and fatigue seems to have caught up with him. While he’s not yet been ruled out of the weekend game with Stoke, many are choosing to opt out on Michu, with his dodgy ankle giving us the chance to scour the midfield market and perhaps free up budget for big-hitters up top.

Defences are Back On Top
Ten teams delivered clean sheets last weekend – eight of them arriving courtesy of home sides as hosts drew the shutters down. Backline options continue to serve up superb value while midfields again toil to attract our attentions – so far this season, eight defenders have racked up 50+ points compared to just three midfielders. With the midfield remaining a minefield blighted by inconsistency (only four players scored last weekend), Jan Vertonghen’s rise to the top of the defender standings highlighted how investment in certain premium-priced backline options is paying off. Sitting on 61 points, the 7.1 priced Belgian’s tally has been bettered by just two midfielders despite the fact he’s produced just one assist – not bad for a player who has yet to live up to his attacking potential, then.

City are Scoring the Goals for Everyone Else
Gameweek 10 brought with it 21 goals – Manuel Pellegrini’s side notched seven of them. Some were reluctant to load up on City coverage due to the upcoming Champions League clash but the Chilean’s line-up against Norwich suggests he’s less liable to rotate than his predecessor. With seven different goalscorers, eight players picking up attacking returns and a clean sheet also thrown in, City’s display punished those who chose to ignore their potential under the new manager – currently averaging 9.1 points per game, Sergio Aguero’s star has never shone brighter, while frustrated Michu owners may be swayed by David Silva’s differential appeal as the Spaniard strikes up a consistency under the new regime.

Robin’s Becoming Reliable Again
Sold on by over 750,000 Fantasy managers this season, the Dutchman’s patchy start under David Moyes finally looks behind him. With plenty of mid-price forwards doing the business early on, ridding our sides of Van Persie was made a little easier by the form that saw him score in just two of the first seven Gameweeks – aving notched in three successive league matches now, with a pair of assists also thrown in, he’s back in the groove again. With so many premium midfielders failing to justify their price tags, Van Persie – despite his 13.9 valuation – is suddenly becoming a viable option for those looking for mid-price options in midfield.

Liverpool’s Formation Remains a Work in Progress
The half-time introduction of Philippe Coutinho away to Arsenal saw Brendan Rodgers move away from a 3-4-1-2 and roll out a more traditional 4-4-2 formation at the Emirates. It didn’t help that the Reds were without their first-choice wing-backs, Glen Johnson and Jose Enrique, but Arsene Wenger’s side were canny enough to take advantage of the space afforded on the flanks – while Rodgers still seems intent on keeping Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge together up top, it remains to be seen whether his three-man backline is here to stay.

Barkley’s No Longer a Guaranteed Starter
Sunday’s home match with Spurs saw Ross Barkley warm the Everton bench for the first time this season as Roberto Martinez looks to protect the youngster from fatigue. Called upon in the 62nd minute as his manager looked to break down a resilient Spurs defence, Barkley’s brief cameo resulted in a fourth successive blank – currently sitting in 35% of Fantasy teams, we can expect his ownership to tumble over the next few days as Fantasy managers react to Martinez’ latest team sheet.

Amalfitano’s a Victim of his Own Versatility
The Frenchman’s owners raised a sigh of relief after he recovered from the knee problem that forced him off last week to start against Palace. Half an hour into the Eagles match and those same owners’ sighs were borne of frustration – an injury to Billy Jones forced Amalfitano to play the rest of the match at right-back; all the more galling considering Saido Berahino, his replacement in right midfield, grabbed a goal, while Stephane Sessegnon chipped in with an assist. With Jones a hamstring doubt, Amalfitano may be forced to take up a place in defence for next weekend’s trip to Chelsea – given West Brom then have three home games in four, this reverse out of position role would be a big blow to his Fantasy potential.

Jose’s Going to Shake it Up
The Saturday lunchtime defeat at Newcastle left Chelsea trailing Arsenal by five points and Jose Mourinho pondering his team selection. The Blues boss admitted post-match he “made 11 mistakes” in naming his side and while Mourinho went on to concede this was a slight exaggeration, the inept performance is likely to result in further changes. Once again, Juan Mata looks the likeliest scapegoat here – surprisingly, the Spaniard has started three of the last four but without a goal or assist in any of them, could make way for the industry of Andre Schurrle on the flank, with Eden Hazard and Oscar still looking comparatively secure.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

People are assuming he meant the players he picked. Just because there's 11 of them. Who's to say his 11 mistakes were even football related?

It's clearly to do with his teamtalk to the team before the league cup match in midweek. He said something along the lines of, 'make it difficult for me (with a good performance) to change the whole team again for the league match.'

They did, and then Jose just changed the team anyway - serves him right!

      Sup Bemba?

It also said that he admitted the comment was a bit exaggerated. He's obviously not going to play a Capital One Cup in the league.

Hazard and Oscar are safe. Schurrle will probably get a start and possibly Ba.

"Mourinho went on to concede this was a slight exaggeration"

was the part bringing balance to the argument for panic.

Anyone putting Mata and Torres in the side would have done so at risk of rotation.

Lampard Torres and Mata getting rotated anyway.

      He thinks DeBruyne is crap.

So no not really. While theres a chance he may not play theres a chance he could destroy WBA.

So frustrated to miss selling Michu before his price drop as Gerrard would’ve been an ideal replacement at the same price!

    Boruc
    Williams, Terry, Coleman
    Ozil, Michu, Barkley, Ravel
    Aguero, Rooney, Suarez

    Lewis, Brady, Faye, B Turner

    1FT £0.0m

a)Take a hit to get rid of Michu for Silva,Oscar/Hazard, Gerrard?
    b) Straight swap for Ramsey and pocket the difference for another rainy day?
    c) save the FT and play Brady or Turner?

There would be little point in dropping Hart just for one game. Would make Pellegrini look a bit weak, like dropping him for one game was just a token empty threat.

They kept a clean sheet, so can't see Pantilimon getting dropped.

Although he will keep his place until he makes a mistake, I can't see why pellegrini would drop him

why should hart be given any special treatment? Just because he is England goalkeeper?

He made a mistake and has been doing it for a while. He was lucky he wasn't dropped before this.

When De Gea made mistakes everyone was all over him saying he wasn't good enough, same with Szeczney.

What makes Hart different? Panty is a worthy backup who deserves his chance. Until he makes a few errors he shouldn't be replaced. Hart made loads of errors, so panty by that logic needs to make loads for him to be replaced.

temporarily replacing DDG and Szeczney did them the world of good, i imagine pelligrini is hoping for the same with hart.

I could be wrong, I haven't seen panty play much so dont really know how good he is

          I agree with this.

I took some abuse from Arsenal fans a the start of the season when i suggested Szczesny was a good 'keeper who'd made the odd mistake in his inexperience. In these cases you must stick with them.

When errors become consistent, there is due cause for concern and Joe has certainly gone backwards.

I hope a break from the media spotlight helps him regain some of the form he showed in the title winning season at City.

REPOST from last article, as I see Barkley is mentioned here

For those concerned about Barkley's gametime due to Osman starting yesterday, I wouldn't worry too much (and indeed I'm not, he's in my starting XI for GW11)

A selection of comments from an Everton forum:

"Osman is a liability today. Poor passing, missing tackles and positioning has been rubbish. Hopefully he's taken off a HT"

"Osman needs to be on the bench for a while. Had a poor game again, did well last week when he came on v Villa but we can't afford poor tackling, no pace and mis placed passes. He will have a big part to play in our season but I just feel he needs time on the bench."

"Osman was **** keep the **** on the bench"

"he needs to be put in a hole... one good half in a year and hes ousts barkley..."

"Did you not see Barkley come on with Deulofeu and change the game? "

To Mirallas owners - I'd be far more concerned about him. A lot of animosity towards him on their forums, and plenty of calls for Martinez to drop him for Deulofeu.

    David Silva random thought time.

    - long time points doubter, particularly at his price, but I'm trying to (quote Churchill) "become more open minded, without my brain falling out".
    - City won 7-0. 7! Yet, he scraped a goal that, quite frankly, Ruddy should have saved. 9 points in this scenario (one of which was a rare CS point) does not represent value.
    - BUT when you consider his 3 GW injury and the buffoons in midfield, it does make me wonder. When you also then consider I'm indecisive, an overanalyser and that City are scoring bucket loads then maybe, just maybe I should be reconsidering.

RVP just isnt value imo , Rooney is matching him and Wazza is in the form of his life right now.

I got Rooney when he was 3.5 mil cheaper than RVP so for me its a no brainer.

RVP has pens so his owners are relying on those to outscore an inform Rooney whos far cheaper.

Rooney does tend to have dips in form but this is as consisent as he had been in a long time.

Here is my team with FT used -

    Boruc (HUL)
Clyne (HUL) - Coleman (cry) - Zabaleta (sun)
Gerrard (FUL) - Ozil (mun) - Silva (sun) - Whittingham (avl)
Benteke (CAR) - Lukaku (cry) - Suarez (FUL)

Bench: Camp - Amilfitano - Jones - Chester

Don't want to play Whittingham or anyone on the bench!

    Could:

    a) go 4 at back and replace Chester with a 4.6 budget
    b) Do Whittingham/Amilfitano out with a 5.7/5.8 budget

Which one and who to get in?

    Thanks folks!

    Anyone else here considering Cabaye?

If so, are Michu > Cabaye and Giroud > Aguero sound moves? (and leaves enough cash for Jedinak > Morrison)

    Team:
    Migs
    Vidic, Dawson, Fonte (Rosenior, Chester)
    Michu, Ozil, Oscar, Ramsey (Jedinak)
    Giroud, Suarez, Lukaku

(REPOST, lost at end of dead thread)

Yes I think he is worth looking at. Those transfers are quite popular around here. Team isn't bad but I think you have to many CBs. Better to have some lb and rb. Maybe Vidic > Evra if u want united cover?

      It's good though.

All we need is Lukaku being out.

      Walcott stealing Ramsey's thunder.

Taken an 8pt hit to sort out my team
Giroud > Aguero (before he becomes unaffordable)
Mertesacker > Vlaar (save cash and AVL have a good run coming)
Michu > Adnan (injury > bandwagon)

Yet I still have GJ and Lukaku flagged as doubts for the weekend.....aargh

Maybe my darling Delboy will finally oust Mirallas from his starting role. At this stage I reckon he'd due a couple of games. That's why they got him on loan, to cover when someone isn't performing.

Well Delboy and Barkley made Everton much more dangerous, could have won the game.

Hoping mirallas gets a 60 minute or even a 30 minute run out.. should be good for points vs palace even with less minutes.. if lukaku is out mirallas gets even more of a chacne to start

Which of these transfers is best?:
    A)HBA & Michu ---> Barkley & Hazard/Oscar/Silva (-4)
    B) Michu ---> Oscar?coutinho

My gut is telling me Hazard is gonna have a big few weeks and Silva is obviously gonna be getting points consistently, plus it would be nice to get rid of the deadweight of HBA (no idea why Ive kept him as long as I have!). However, it would require a 4 point hit.

Michu to Oscar is the safest option, but I'm not sure about Oscar, I think he has gone out of form and is in for a dry spell.

Whats everyones thoughts on the best ~9.0 priced mid?

If I had found my first season of FF as frustrating as this then I would never have become addicted. However, I would have had Ramsey and Yaya etc. as it was before I discovered this place with it's wonderful array of logic, insight and information. That is a compliment to FFS btw.
