In the first instalment of a new, weekly article for members, we conduct some in-depth statistical analysis into one of the most crucial aspects in any given Gameweek – just who we entrust with the Fantasy armband. This week the options are plentiful – Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham all feature at home, City travel to basement-dwellers Sunderland, while a couple of Belgians are also in the running as clear captain contenders. With an array of talent on show, just who is “Captain Sensible”?
Great performances from Mert and Kosc tonight.
Open ControlsMy chances of making the FFS Cup just might have gone up in smoke... took a 8 point hit to get in Ravel, Reid and Agueo for Giroud, GJ and Siggy keeping in mind long term objectives...
Open ControlsWhats happening with Hazard. Please tell me hes not injured 🙁
Open Controlsnot injured, benched for "disciplinary reasons"
Open Controlswiggly ankle, same as all season
been well documented by Belgian national squadOpen Controls
This is a very confusing members article, so real substance to it tbh.
Open ControlsDo you think...I think we've neglected the captaincy issue for a long time and plundering the data to do some analysis of the merits of the top candidates seem to be the way to go.
Interesting to get your views though - and of others on this.
It's a first attempt so we can evolve it.Open ControlsI really think its a great idea for an article, I just think it could be presented much more clearly.
Open ControlsSure...we can play with that. What in particular was confusing or not explained?
By all means drop me a line at mark@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk with feedback.Open Controls
I think it should revolve around how bad the opposing team is defensively each week, more than how good the season stats are for each attacking player
Open ControlsWell that data is there and discussed - perhaps not as much as it should?
Open ControlsI'd like to see it be more of the main focus, but this is just my view. When you have 3 good (C) choices, an article on which of the three opposing back 4s is the worst can really help.
Open ControlsThe problem with the stats, the way they are presented now, are down to the lack of explanation.
For example:
How would you compare Sunderland and Cardiff right now?
The stats don't really differentiate them enough. What's the difference between both home/away? It's nice to know how Aguero played vs them in the past, but how bad are they this year?
Did Cardiff have a rough run of fixtures or are they just defending poorly on the road? I think there are so many speculative questions that the stats alone don't answer.Open ControlsSo a paragraph on our thoughts of the opposition table before hitting the players. Will take it on board.
Open ControlsI think that's the key thing about the defences' stats as currently presented - they don't take any account of the difficulty of the fixtures included in the 4-game streak. It would make the stats more comparable if they could be calibrated somehow to adjust for this.
Also, it would be nice to see how the captain prospects fared in the corresponding fixture last season.Open ControlsCheers for the feedback. Not a big fan of previous season stuff. A lot can change from then till now but will take it back to the think tank
Open ControlsI agree, it doesn't necessarily give any deep insight (unless it's Suarez v Norwich), but I'd look on it as a "nice to see" bit of trivia.
Open Controls
Great article.
Open ControlsWould love to read an article about how many goal Fulham/ CPL may or may not ship at the weekend
Open Controls
Don't understand Adam's comments above. Great article on what is possibly THE most important Fantasy manager choice each week. I struggled a bit following some of the stats, but then the individual player summaries are underneath (err, that' the list of Captain Sensibles, surely?). More like this next week please - only snag might be in weeks where there are a multitude of Captain options and no clear picks, but then again, a focused article could really help.
Open ControlsCheers. All the more challenging when we have a multitude of captains in a week. Really test the stats out
Open Controls
I think it's great. It makes the case for a few different options...were you hoping it would come down more solidly in favour of one player? Kind of like adding a captain to the scout picks.
Open ControlsImagine the hate mail I'll get if I recommend one of them and he falls flat on his face. Would be scary stuff
Open ControlsYou already look like a scared monkey 🙂
I agree a conclusion with a ranking of the candidates would only really be used by more casual FFS-ers, who aren't likely to have memberships anyway.
The player's previous history against a club would be useful though, ie 'Sturridge scored a hat-trick the last time he played Fulham', 'suarez got a goal and an assist', 'Wayne is prolific against arsenal' are all useful things to know.Open Controls
Arsenal would be bottom of the Premier League and bottom of the Champions League without Ramsey's goals this season...
STATOpen Controlsand if the girl next door didn't have a bell she wouldn't be a bike
Open ControlsDeep down, I think we all knew it
Open Controls
Garbage!
Open ControlsFACT

Ramsey "hats Off -Clutch player" ...now all the naysayers please step out and say this is just luck, or question of time before flamini, santi, arteta, wilshere, rosikcy or dare i say podolski put ramsey in bench. Surely someone will bench Ramsey right...at some pt. and then , and only then, the convenient phrase" i told you so" would be heard loud. But after that, Ramsey could easily have had in excess of at least 10 goals btn ucl & PL.
Open Controls2 massive wins for Arsenal this week!!!
But they were a bit lucky tonight.
Man Poo will be terrified 👿Open Controlsbit of a discredit to arsenal. Dortmund have been unbeatable at home
Open Controls
UCL score check.
69 for me.Open ControlsDon't get overjoyed all my fellow Arsenal fans, We haven't been tested yet, We have to win Big Games away from home
Open Controlsno English club has ever won at Dortmund before
Open ControlsI thought the game tonight was a big game away from home.
Open ControlsTongue in cheek Debbie Downer. I like it
Open Controls
At least I won't have to listen to that stupid heavy metal shtick for a while.
Open ControlsBOOOOOOOOOYAH! :D:D:D:D
Open ControlsRe Wales discussion. This is possibly Wales' best striker now that Bellamy has retired. I think we might struggle to get him released though...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ched_EvansOpen ControlsWOw, didn't realize he was in jail. I remember him.
Open Controls
Does anyone think couthino is worth getting?? Can't decide between him or silva
Open Controlswhere was Hazard today?
is he rested, injured, or fell out of favor?Open ControlsIn all seriousness, what effect does Walcott (and Santi) being back have on Ramsey? Ramsey seems to be playing a very attacking role now but when Walcott is back does Ramsey drop to a deeper position?
Open ControlsThe key thing is all 4 havnt played in the same starting 11 yet
Hes full of confidence so cant see him being affected muchOpen ControlsCould Walcott play at nine and give wenger options ?
Don't see how he can not play the welsh messiOpen ControlsRamsay has become a strange fenomenon as he was the deepest he has been this season tonight. I think his shooting stats etc wont be affected as he is playing deep now too. But his conversion rate should return to the mean at some point. Not to his last year averages, but at least not better than any striker on the planet.
Open Controls
Besides Gareth Bale, can't think of a player who so emphatically turned round his performances and the public's perception of him. What an unbelievable gear shift in his career.
Open ControlsIf Ramsey was English the press would be going proper mental
Open ControlsRooney to Aguero and Michu to Ramsey
Yay or Nay?Open ControlsI'll have to dig out your comments on him from last year....
Open ControlsExcuse me, I was never a Ramsey 'hater' like many on here but...
Didn't feel he was a good fantasy option, as for last year - I was right.
Always thought he was a quality player (better than the overated Wilshire) especially before he had his injuryOpen Controls
So i`m pretty sure i`m going to wildcard this week. I have 16.8m for a goalie, defender and a midfielder. Who do you like? Alternatively, i could drop Rooney for Benteke to upgrade somewhere, but initially i really dont wanna do that.
Open ControlsReid and Hazard :growl:
Open ControlsGood Chelsea win but also well done to the Gooners, not easy to win at Dortmund and glad I have that boy Ramsey in my team
Open ControlsIn other news, Moyes needs to seek out the services of Nigel de Jong, in order to stop the machine that is Aaron James (fu**ing) Ramsey
Open ControlsSome ppl sayin hazard out of favor.. some sayin he's missed it cause of his dodgy ankle.. is there any source to either or is it just what mourinho said in the tweets?
Open ControlsHe is nowhere near good enough in terms of footie knowledge to spend time on harshing.
Open Controls
good time to start thinking about Ramsey seriously ?
Open Controlslol
Open Controlsno
Open ControlsHey guys check out my team. Any changes I should make?
Mign
Zabaleta - Clyne - Coleman
Ozil - Ramsey - Yaya Toure - Ravel Morrison
Suarez. - Aguero - Sturridge
Bench: Boruc - Barkley - Chester - Chambers
Who should I captain?
Any chances I should make with 0-.5 in the bank?Open ControlsI have very similar squad, but prefer Barkley instead of Morrison
Open Controls
Is the Champions League really all it's cracked up to be? Don't get me wrong, it clearly is a competetion to win, but with the likes of Celtic, Steau, Basel, Austria Wien, Pizen, Kopenhagen and Olympiacos in it, it's not THAT good.
