Jesus Navas and Sergio Aguero run riot at the Etihad as City bounce back from defeat at Sunderland to ensure their 100% home record continues at the hands of Tottenham. Wayne Rooney grabs a goal and assist in Robin Van Persie’s absence, though United are held to a draw at Cardiff, with old boy Fraizer Campbell amongst the goals.

Aguero Delivers Once Again
The Argentine extended his lead at the top of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) standings with yet another stunning display. Aguero welcomed Spurs to the Etihad having averaged over 10 points per home appearance, with five goals, five assists and nine bonus points prior to yesterday’s match – a brace, assist and two bonus helped him to 15 points, his fifth set of double figures in 10 starts. Aguero has now scored or assisted in eight of his 10 appearances in Pellegrini’s XI and is serving up a consistency on a par with Luis Suarez; Fantasy managers holding both face a tough decision in any given Gameweek, as the pair continue to deliver points at a far superior rate to any other Fantasy asset – Suarez and Aguero have averaged 10.4 and nine points per game this term; Wayne Rooney is their nearest rival, on seven ppg by comparison.

Alvaro Negredo also caught the eye with a goal and assist – he has produced returns in each of the last five at home, racking up 38 points, but despite his Etihad consistency and cheaper price (at 9.1 to Aguero’s 12.0) the Spaniard remains firmly in his strike-partner’s shadow. Nonetheless, his security of starts looks assured – after the game, Pellegrini went on record as to say his summer signing was ”perfect” for the Premier League, with yesterday’s result meaning City have now scored 26 goals in just six games in front of their own fans.

Navas Finds his Form
It’s been an underwhelming start to the little winger’s Etihad career but yesterday’s display suggested he may finally be settling. Handed his first start since Gameweek 5, Navas more than atoned for the absence of David Silva by bagging a brace in the mauling of Tottenham, scoring in 13 seconds before firing home a late sixth – with an assist and maximum bonus also delivered, he ended the afternoon with a 19 point haul. Still sidelined by a calf complaint, Silva is surely nailed-on under Pellegrini and with Navas excelling on the right, Samir Nasri owners will be a little concerned for his game time upon Silva’s imminent return.

Tottenham Capitulate
Spurs rolled up to the Etihad boasting the league’s most impressive defensive record, with just a single goal conceded in five road trips and six goals against in the first 11 Gameweeks. They exited Manchester with their tails between their legs after Andre Villas-Boas’ decision to make six alterations to his starting XI backfired. The early-season resilience which helped grind out results has vanished – Spurs have failed to score in each of the last three, with a 1-0 win over Hull in Gameweek 9 the last time they found the net; even then, the win came courtesy of a converted spot-kick. With a raft of summer signings on board, Villas-Boas’ side still seem nowhere near settled, as a lack of consistency of selection continues to stunt their progress – United and Liverpool await them in the next four, suggesting the north London club face a tricky time of it.

Rooney Key to United
With Robin Van Persie sidelined though injury, the England start continued to demonstrate his importance to the United cause. A goal and assist in the 2-2 draw at Cardiff, supplemented by maximum bonus, took Rooney into third spot in the FPL forward standings on 77 points – yesterday’s haul was his third set of double figures of the season but crucially, all three have arrived in the last four Gameweeks; a clear indication of his flourishing form under David Moyes. Indeed, Rooney’s overall consistency has been hugely impressive since the champions’ new manager arrived, with a goal or assist in nine of his 11 appearances so far and since Gameweek 4, he has played a part in 11 of his side’s 16 goals.

Despite having the last fortnight to recover from the persistent toe and groin problems that forced him out of the recent Holland squad, it appears Van Persie had only managed light training; his manager’s failure to reveal this on Friday’s press conference cost the Dutchman’s 23% of FPL owners dearly. Prior to yesterday’s match, Moyes admitted he may will “probably need to look after” Rooney’s game time “somewhere in the next two months” but with the festive fixture list packing up pace as the games arrive at speed, it appears more than likely that Van Persie will be the one whose minutes may need managed. After the game, Moyes conceded the former Arsenal man was ruled out with a groin problem and aims to get him back “as soon as we can”.

Evra’s Attacking Potential
A goal against the Bluebirds continued the Frenchman’s impressive run of attacking form. Evra has also provided a couple of assists over the last five Gameweeks for Moyes’ side and in a season where the Red Devils have toiled for clean sheets, with only three so far, their left-back’s offensive potential has seen him deliver 51 FPL points – 27 points more than any of his defensive team-mates and 12 clear of David De Gea in goal. Granted, at 6.3, he’s the priciest option amongst Moyes’ backline but Evra is justifying the extra outlay – with three home games in four after next week’s trip to Spurs, he could come in for further investment, with his consistency of selection also looking key over the packed Christmas period.

Campbell’s Big Game Appetite
Clearly, there’s something about playing the Manchester clubs that brings out the best in Fraizer Campbell. Prior to yesterday, he’d drawn blanks in all but one of his 12 appearances this season – his only success arrived back in Gameweek 2, when Cardiff got the better of City 3-2. With Andreas Cornelius cementing his comeback from an ankle injury with a sub appearance off the bench, though, it remains to be seen whether Campbell will retain his starting berth – he had been named in the XI just once in the four games before yesterday’s draw. With Stoke, Palace and West Brom in the next four, confidence will be high after yesterday’s result – Peter Whittingham is the only attack-minded player to have started every league game for the Welsh club and chipped in with an assist and couple of bonus points yesterday; at 5.1 he’s certainly budget-friendly and remains a reliable starter under Malky Mackay.

So many options...and so few transfers

Finished with Lallana and Walker/Chico...but who for ?

Nobody will be attempting to outplay City from here on in... Komany returns next week (?)...Ivanovic falling down to 6.2 with great fixtures...Palace enlisting the help of Pullis with great fixtures...Baines out increases Miralas's set piece duties...Bacuna cheap as chips suppling Benteke...JWP delivering the best set pieces in the prem at a give away price....Sheesh...It could be a long list...

I don't mind riding a one match ban...Cabaye and Mirallas also in the same boat, but if you excluded any players on four yellows at this point it'd reduce the options long term...I don't really have any deadwood in my team so it'd be ok.

With those fixtures it's a lot to stick on the bench for me, adding into that BPS I think JT might be worth the extra outlay even now. The way we organize set-pieces this season he seems the bigger goal threat as well.

City still haven't picked up their away form enough to warrant Kompany for me. Arsenal are looking solid though. Flannagan at 4.5M?

Flanagan ... Reading in today's guardian that both Gerrard and Rodgers thought he was their best player .... Seems debatable when you've conceded 3 goals but at 4.5 could be a bargo

See below for comments ..... Looks like its his to lose for now

"It is very simple for me. With any player, you have to put yourself on the training field. If you do that, you will be in with a chance of playing. Jon Flanagan was immense. He will be in a derby that is shown on Sky Golden in 30 years' time because of his desire and will to put himself out there every day.- BR

It moved Steven Gerrard to say: "Our star man for me was Jon Flanagan by a country mile. He doesn't get many headlines but as captain of the team he was the player I am most proud of. I thought he was unbelievable. He's been fighting hard in training just to get in the 18, never mind the starting 11, but the manager threw him in at the deep end against a top-class player like [Kevin] Mirallas and I thought he was sensational. It was one of the best derby performances I have seen for many years. He reminds me of [Jamie] Carragher in a lot of ways. I don't think you would judge Jon in terms of ability or skill, but he is all about heart, desire, determination and fighting for the cause- Gerrard

looking up till end of year with saurez/aguero (C) decision I think there is a case for almost all the armbands going on those two, but there are exceptions.
    week 13 aguero SWAN
week 14 saurez NORWICH (other option is any Arsenal home to Hull)
    week 15 suarez WHU
week 16 any Chelsea home to Palace, aguero is home to Arsenal
week 17 saurez CARDIFF (other option is united home to WHU)
week 18 probably hardest decision, aguero LIVERPOOL (other option is united away to hull, arsenal away to WHU)
    week 19 aguero PALACE

for me if you dont have any stand out chelsea week 16 or united/arsenal week 18 then aguero at home is better option, but i will be tempted to stray from the formula for those two.
having said that there may be chance of rotation for aguero so to maximise potential when he does return i suppose you should stick with him every home game.

Not that this is aimed at me. I have that front line & am tempted to downgrade Rooney as i never plan to captain him. But the upcoming fixtures are making me resist something i may regret. Other cheaper options producing the goods though.

I keep wanting too and meaning too but keep finding too good value elsewhere. Been through Sturridge, Tekkers, Giroud, Lukaku and now Remy all while having an eye on Rooney. I'm sure I'll get around to him at some stage

Thats the difficulty really. Sometimes positive circumstances conspire against getting in quality players. Just think of those who hung onto Sturridge and Giroud for too long when SAR continued to do their thing at a more explosive rate.

Yeah true. I think I sold both of them at the right time and when most people refused to entertain the idea. Thought the goals were about to dry up and they did. I'm sure Rooney will punish me for getting distracted by cheap ho's and ignoring the classy broad at some point. He's been plugging away so far but he does have proper big scores in him

I think this is the fist question you should answer:

Is United's defence a good option?

If you think so, then pick a nailed-on defender. I think Evra is the only one. Evans is the cheaper, risky pick

    Early Champions League fitness news:

    a) Bayer Leverkusen will definitely be without Sidney Sam against Man United (muscle tear in left thigh)

    b) Marek Hamsik will miss Napoli's game against Borussia Dortmund with a foot injury

    c) Schalke 04 have flown out to Bucharest without Timo Hildebrand: Ralf Fährmann will deputise in goal. Julian Draxler is also a doubt due to a flu virus, and Leon Goretzka hasn't travelled to Romania for the same reason.

This reminded me of my champions league team. Had Sam and Hamsik. Never went back to it after the first week

57 (-4) points with Sess and Benteke to play this evening.

Pretty much everyone in my mini league has somehow managed to get 65+ points! Its crazy.

I am playing catch up all the time and I can't catch up with all these injuries.
First Walcott, then Silva, Brady, Benteke, then Silva again! Now Baines... Need a bit of luck tonight hoping for a high scoring game.

I had Rooney (C) if he got what he deserved and got sent off then oh my gawd. haha

How did everyone's game week go?

    Good? Bad?

p.s Cannot believe Mirallas didn't see red. What a disgraceful challenge?!

Anyone else considering Flanagan as a cheap way into Liv defense for handy fixture run? What's chances of keeping his place?

I would if I was looking for a defender. Could be great value at that price. Not many options on the left with JE out.

Would be if I didn't have Migs already and never double up on defence. Having said that top fella in my mini-league tripled up on most of Soton's clean sheets so go figure!

Want to get in a big-hitting midfielder to see me through to Jan wildcard, budget 9.6 - any thoughts?

Current mids are Oscar / Ramsey / Sess / Janz (and Brady, who's the one I'm shipping out). Got Terry and Mert in defence so getting in either Hazard or Wally would mean tripling up on Chelsea/Arsenal. Strikers are a predictable Suarez / Aguero / Lukaku. Go on, throw in your two pennies...

    Cheers!

Cheers Icon, you might be right - still think it's a bit risky to throw such many eggs into Chelsea's basket (Terry, Oscar, Hazard), but have to admit the thought of having both Oscar and Haz in my first XI is an tempting one. You wouldn't fancy Toure or even a punt on Navas?

Defo not Navas, maybe Toure; although only 2 home games in next 5 and one of those against Ars. I have Terry, Haz and Lamps and was planning shifting Lamps pre this GW til I saw there run of games coming up

If you want security I guess Vlaar and Olsson could be good stuff at a reasonable penny. Palace has great fixtures as well and a manager that knows how to organize a defensive unit.

It's a risk, but Aly has been poor. BR and Stevie G singing his praises. He's been highly regarded by the training staff there for a while now. Considering he's a lot cheaper than GJ/Agger, I'd say he could be worth the risk. I mean he costs the same as Vlaar 😮

Haha, we gotta adapt to the situation Tinker. I sold Mirallas on WC this GW so I'm cringing a bit myself, but we always knew he had the potential and stats to score well and if Baines is out he'll get more set-pieces...
