Shane Long fires West Brom into a two-goal lead at the Hawthorns but the Baggies are denied a second successive home win in last night’s midlands derby. Karim El Ahmadi and Ashley Westwood grab the second-half goals as the visitors come from behind to take a share of the spoils – for Fantasy managers, though, it proved a frustrating night:

Long Plunders the Points
The Baggies forward fired both his side’s goals and picked up maximum bonus points in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game to continue an upturn in form. Prior to Gameweek 11, Long had failed to find the net all season but a strike against Chelsea at the Bridge seems to have reinvigorated the Republic of Ireland star, as he turned in a stunning first-half display against his team’s bitter rivals. Having started the first three league fixtures, Long drifted onto the periphery of Steve Clarke’s first XI – the following six matches harvested just 60 minutes from the bench – but he now seems to have worked his way to the top of the pecking order for the lone forward role. Nicolas Anelka, Victor Anichebe and Matej Vydra now have their work cut out to earn game time in Clarke’s preferred 4-2-3-1 system, with Stephane Sessegnon seemingly nailed on in “the hole” behind Long. The fixtures remain in the Baggies favour, with Newcastle, Norwich, Cardiff and Hull in the next five but with our three forward slots at a premium, Long – despite a favourable 6.0 price tag – looks likely to remain a differential option, with a current ownership of 1%.

Brunt Ticking Over
When it comes to the West Brom midfield, our Fantasy plans have mainly concerned summer signings Sessegnon and Morgan Amalfitano, but the Baggies skipper is gradually making his mark. In a season blighted by niggling hamstring issues, Brunt managed just one start and three brief substitute appearances in the first nine Gameweeks but, similar to Long, has forced his way into the starting line-up over the last three league matches. With an assist in each of his two home appearances over that period, his delivery from the left is looking crucial to Clarke’s side – the Baggies have scored seven times in four games with Brunt in the XI, compared to seven strikes in eight without him. At 5.0, he’s the cheapest of Clarke’s attacking midfielders and looks set to continue on the left for the above-mentioned run of matches.

Villa’s Budget Midfield Possibilities
In recent weeks, Leandro Bacuna has caught the eye with his set-piece execution earning the Villa new boy increased investment. Utilised as a full-back, though, Bacuna’s classification as a midfielder hardly helps his Fantasy appeal, but last night saw a couple of Paul Lambert’s regulars throw their hats into the ring ahead of a kind run of fixtures. Karim El Ahmadi’s strike was his second of the season and, having started seven of the last eight, the 4.4 priced midfielder may appeal to those looking for a budget alternative – Villa now have Sunderland, Fulham, Stoke and Palace in the next six. Ashley Westwood’s leveller hogged the headlines and also has him blinking on Fantasy radars – at 4.9 he’s a little costlier than El Ahmadi, but is another secure starter.

Benteke’s Drought Continues
It’s five games without a goal now for the Villa forward after he drew yet another blank. Partnered by Libor Kozak in a 4-3-1-2 formation, Benteke continues to hint at a return to the form that produced four goals in the first four fixtures – he managed four attempts last night, more than any visiting player, but without success. Despite the slump, a home game against Sunderland this weekend could be just what he needs to resurrect his Fantasy campaign – with Gabby Agbonlahor and Andreas Weimann climbing off the bench to signal their return from injury, a return to a 4-3-3 system against the Black Cats looks on the cards and, with their tails up after last night’s derby comeback, Lambert’s side will be optimistic Benteke can rediscover his eye for goal.

Tekkers is out of form but has better fixtures over the next 6 (thank you article) making him a good differential with about 10 % less ownership than Lukaku
that being said, Lukaku seems like the better bet to keep though because he appears to be in form/fixture proof at the moment.

this and if tekkers blanks again next week you and many others such as myself might feel very sad. Should he score though, Lukaku vs Stoke at Home should console you/us 😉

Tekkers could very well get going, but until then that extra $1.0 could possibly be of better use elsewhere.

This is my first year playing Fantasy UCL. Can't really decide if I should use my WC.

    Team is-

    Courtois,Kaminski
    Alaba,Rafinha,Marquinhos,Ambrose,Ortlechner
    Oscar,Mkhitaryan,Alex Teixeira,Bruno,Josue
    Ronaldo,Messi,Ibra

1 FT and 0m in the bank.

Only injuries are Messi and Ronaldo. So WC or no WC? If not then when is the best time to play it?

    Would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks.

    - Benteke owners -

Since joining Villa last year, he has scored 34 goals in all competitions for us. I looked at the common factors in all of his goals and was pretty amazed to see just how reliant he has been on both Weiman and Agbonlahor to aid his cause. We all suspected it, but this is what I found:

In the 28 games in which Agbonlahor, Weiman and Benteke have all STARTED together - he's scored 27 goals.

In the 25 games in which they haven't (through one of them having an injury, coming on as a later sub, etc) - he's scored 7 goals.

Yes, he hasn't looked the same since returning from injury and certainly looked anonymous last night. But it is worth noting that since returning from his injury 5 games ago, only ONCE has he started with Weiman and Agbonlahor. The other 4 games he's been playing without one or the other.

Last night Agbonlahor and Weiman returned from injury to devestating effect, helping us come from two goals down to draw the game. In 30 minutes! When these guys are together they are a real force.

They will all start together on Saturday.

Sunderland at home is up next. Benteke scored a hattrick against them last season. Yes, all three players started that game too...

Yeah always suspected this and good to see it confirmed. You seem to play better on the counter too so I wonder if you have an unusually good record against attacking/good teams.

Benteke has been unable to finish for toffee without them. Maybe they create better chances?

Yep, exactly that. Both Weiman and Gabby can be clinical with their passing and crossing.

Don't know if you saw the game last night, but at times we had bloody Clark and El Ahmadi on the wings CROSSING!? Sadly even Tekkers can't score with them as our 'providers'.

Knee-jerked last night from Baines & Benteke to Coleman & Aguero.

    Ended up with:

    Mignolet, McGregor
    Johnson, Ridgewell, Coleman, Rangel, Shaw
    Hazard, Cabaye, Amalfitano, Ramsey, Ravel
    Suarez, Rooney, Aguero

    It's all getting a bit template 🙁

All depends on the situation you find yourself in. At the moment I am considering saving £0.1m and bringing Davis in for Harper so the £2mil would be much more useful. However, when your team is in a mess the wildcard is the much better option.

Tempted to take my points from Coutinho and run as I've got a feeling he'll be trolling me with everything but the points in Liverpool's good fixtures. Away to Hull who are decent defensively at home too. I could get Walcott, see..

I have Nasri and Coutinho tempts me for the upgrade. Walcott tempts me even more (but not until he proves himself fit and back fully recovered).

Hmmm, definite battle of stats v belief in a player with Coutinho. Man is talented but can't shoot for toffee. His goal against pool came from about six yards at a corner.

    Team is:
    Krul Boruc
    Terry Coleman Dawson Williams Chester
    Oscar Gerrard Ramsey Whittingham Morrison
    Suarez Aguero Giroud

I have 0.4m in the bank and 1 FT.

I'm thinking of getting rid of:
    A) Coleman
    B) Dawson

    To someone like
    1) G Johnson
    2) Skrtel
    3) Mertesacker
    4)Nastasic (if not injured)

Any of these sound like a good idea or would you change anything else or save the ft?

    Cheers

Ahhhh no City because of David Silva's injuries has really screwed my season so far

    A) Baines > Gabbidon/Burner
    Townsend > Navas/Nasri/Fernandinho

    B) Baines > Gabbidon/Burner
    Benteke > Aguero

    C) Just Baines > Gabbidon/Burner
