Fantasy Football Scout is delighted to announce a number of new recruits as part of a handful of changes taking place across the production, editorial and community management sides of the site.

First up, Demi has joined us as our team news correspondent. He has been an outstanding contributor to the site for a number of years, most notably with his swift and reliable match day line up posts. Given his experience we thought it was about time we invited him to get more involved with the site and take over our team news section. He’ll also be penning most of our weekly team news articles, ensuring that the community is kept notified of the latest press conference and team developments – in addition he will be continuing to keep us updated of the very latest line up news as they are announced on match days.

We have also appointed our first production editor Tim K, who will be on hand to take on sub-editing duties. Tim will be checking that we dot our i’s and cross our t’s in the correct manner before the articles are published.

Somewhat belatedly, we want to formally introduce another new recruit on the editorial side, Roscola. As many of you will have already noticed, he has already done a sterling job in his role as our resident crystal ball gazer in charge of the Frisking the Fixtures articles, and is also a member of the moderation team.

In addition, one of our moderating team members Green Windmill has kindly taken on an extra role helping tweak the Watchlist each week. His Watchlist research behind the scenes each week has already proved invaluable and we are pleased he has agreed to help out on a more formal basis.

Finally, from next week I’ll be taking on the newly created role of  managing editor,  helping Mark and Paul out with some of the behind the scenes running of the site as well as continuing to manage community issues.

I trust you will join us in welcoming our new recruits. We also hope to announce further additions to the team in due course.

For more details about those working behind the scenes at Fantasy Football Scout visit our recently updated  Meet The Team page.

I've started up a new league called Odds & Evens which will start scoring in gameweek 14.

    In order to stay in the league your total gameweek points will have to be odd or even, depending on which week it is in order for you to stay in. For gameweek 14 your total points must be an even number, and it alternates each week. So, for example;

    Gameweek 14: Even
    Gameweek 15: Odd
    Gameweek 16: Even
    Gameweek 17: Odd
    Etc

Also, to stop it from being just luck, the top number of players in the league, depending on how many join, will receive a pass to the next round no matter what they score. Obviously ill change this rule when the numbers are thin.

Here's the league code to enter: 51805-663631

I'm gonna take hits til I have no playing players. That should give me an even score for 14. But how to make sure I get odd points on gw 15? 🙁 Has anybody found a better strategy?

It's becoming increasingly common in this context, even if it is gramatically incorrect. Without the apostrophes it becomes:

"checking that we dot our is and cross our ts in the correct manner"

Which is just plain confusing. Rule #1 - prioritise clarity of meaning over grammatical pedantry. 😉

    Drafted GW13 team:

    Mignolet (hul)
Terry (SOT), Vidic (tot), Coleman (STO)
Ozil (car), Ramsey (car), Barkley (STO, R Morrison (FUL)
Aguero (SWA), Suarez (hul), Benteke (SUN)

Lewis (ARS), Brady (LIV), Turner (ARS), Clyne (che)

    1.9m and 1FT

I am 0.4m short of a straight swap of Benteke to Rooney.

I would also like to keep Benteke this week due to him having Sunderland at home and Rooney having Spurs away.

With this in mind, is it worth doing Ozil to Hazard this week?

I can then do Benteke to Rooney for GW14.

I am assuming it would take 2 or 3 weeks worth of transfers if you are intent on avoiding hits to downgrade into enough funds to upgrade Lukaku you may be better off just waiting until the January WC. If my assumption is incorrect then disregard!

          I can do
          GW12: Walker Out GJ In
          GW13: Lukaku Out Remy In

          Is that good?

I would prefer Lukaku to Remy myself mate despite those two tough Everton fixtures - he blanks against palace and then braces against pool - simply no way to know when he will erupt. I would prefer GJ+Lu over Remy+Flan if I have followed this correctly (which I am not sure I have 😉 )

I'm in the same boat, and I feel like riding the flan-wagon. As a Liverpool fan, I thought he was MUCH better than Cissokho - he was solid, drove forward at times, but most of all showed genuine heart and a desire to be there, pretentious as that sounds.

Also, he is a young, Liverpool player who could do with the experience until January at least. The only thing counting against him is his age, in that Rogers might not want to put the pressure of playing first team on him week in, week out.

Be prepared for him to miss a game over December though (thinking that week where they play thrice).

I posted this on Monday, and dice then another of my players -Arnautovic, has been ruled out injured. I think I'm cursed.

I’m normally quite good at FPL, but having a really bad season, and some analysis points to a serious bad run of luck. Can anyone else match this?

GW1: After 1 game, Nicolas Anelka goes AWOL, reportedly retiring from football completely.
GW2: Ben Foster picks up an injury away at Everton, ruling him out until Christmas.
GW3: Just a week after I transferred him in, David Silva picks up an injury that rules him out for a month.
GW4: Having brought him in for Anelka a week earlier, Darren Bent is ruled out of Fulham’s home game with Swansea, having picked up an injury.
GW5: After restructuring my team to take a 12 point hit to bring him in a week earlier, Robin Van Persie is a mysterious omission from Man United’s trip to Man City. In the same week, my captain Theo Walcott pulls out of the Arsenal game against Stoke due to an injury that will keep him out for a couple of months.
GW6: Despite being declared fit, Robin Van Persie only takes his place on the bench due to injury, coming on for a 1 point cameo in a defeat at home to West Brom. James Collins is a mysterious omission from the West Ham line up at Hull. In the same game, James Chester is ruled out for Hull. Meanwhile in Everton, Hatem Ben Arfa has such a bad game for Newcastle that he is withdrawn at half-time, and his place in the starting line-up is consequently lost.
GW7: It is revealed that Robbie Brady will require surgery on a hernia. Spurs summer signing Roberto Soldado’s poor form means he is dropped to the bench for the home game with West Ham.
GW8: Jose Enrique is a mysterious omission from the Liverpool line-up away at Newcastle, and it revealed he has been playing through injury for the past few weeks.
GW9: In response to his poor form, Victor Moses loses his place in the Liverpool line up
GW10: Glen Johnson, who was transferred in for the injured Jose Enrique, is a mysterious omission from the Liverpool line-up away at Arsenal, meaning Michael Turner, who conceded 7 away at Man City, brings his -2 points into the team.
GW11: David Silva, who I transferred in a week previously, is injured in a Champions League game and ruled out for a month.
GW12: My captain Robin Van Persie is a mysterious omission from the Manchester United squad away at Cardiff. In the same week, Daniel Sturridge picks up an injury on International duty and is only fit enough for a substitute appearance away at Everton.

Players injured whilst in my team:
    RVP x3
    David Silva x2
    Nicolas Anelka
    Ben Foster
    Darren Bent
    Theo Walcott
    James Collins
    James Chester
    Robbie Brady
    Jose Enrique
    Glen Johnson
    Daniel Sturridge

Players losing their place due to bad-form:
    - Hatem Ben Arfa
    - Victor Moses
    - Roberto Soldado

Whilst you may think these are excuses and many people will have suffered too, I think the extent of this luck is dramatic. Firstly, if you say each of those injuries/being dropped requires a transfer, that means 18 transfers have been forced upon me in 12 gameweeks. The choice is to either take hits or suffer price-drops and players with difficult games coming off the bench. Not only do these required transfers take up points, they also get in the way of other ‘planned’ transfers, meaning I can’t put the players in that I want when I want, unless I take more hits. So if I had planned Aguero or Suarez that week, I had to delay those plans as two of my defenders were injured, and thus miss out on a haul. The nature of most of the injuries is the worst thing however, as the majority of the injuries were ‘mysterious omissions’ meaning they were only revealed once the gameweek had began, meaning I couldn’t mitigate them, and watched as players came off my bench to patch up the first 11. Finally, as a new injury seems to emerge every week, at no point did it make sense to use my wildcard.

I’ve never known such a bad spell of luck. I’ve missed out on pretty much every haul, mainly because I’ve spent all season patching up my squad. I don’t think my transfer decisions have been particularly bad, and I think if I was put in the same place each week, I’d make the same decisions again.

My team at the start of the season was
    Boruc/Foster
    Cole/Enrique/Collins/Coleman/Chester
    Hazard/Lampard/Walcott/Mirallas/Lallana
    Sturridge/Soldado/Anelka

Throughout the season, I’ve transferred in the following players:
    Ben Arfa/Silva/Bent/M Turner/Whittingham/Brady/RVP/Myhill/Moses/Ozil/Chico/Arnautovic/Lukaku/G Johnson/Silva/Amifaltano/Hazard.

So many of them have been blighted by injury once I brought them in. It has been a car crash. After some good previous years, I sit with an overall rank of 550k.

So when thing are going well, it's because "I’m normally quite good at FPL". And when things are going badly, it's because of a "serious bad run of luck".

Sounds like a classic case of:

              A decent record, for sure.

I guess my point is that there is plenty of luck in the game, but this cuts both ways. Your good years are just as much a result of good luck as your current season is the result of bad luck.

Equally, to the extent that your good years are the result of you being a good player, so your current predicament is partly the result of poor decisions.

For example James Collins certainly was not a mysterious omission, he was always at risk of a benching at any time. You only had to listen to Doosra to know that (although he is wrong on many other things ). Likewise having Soldado in your team as late as GW7 was a mistake - Spurs had shown their lack of cutting edge by then.

Sure you've had a lot of bad luck with injuries, but we have to take the rough with the smooth. I reckon I was also affected by 5 of the cases you've highlighted.

Good post. I thought my luck had been bad - I had 6 of my gw3 wildcard players injured within 3 weeks, but this takes the biscuit.

Injuries do seem to be more common this season though. Anybody thought why this may be (or is it just that more prominent FPL players are getting injured this time.)
