We roll out another instalment of our new weekly article for Members this evening, offering an in-depth statistical analysis of the main captaincy contenders for the Gameweek ahead. Each of the top four supply us with a player apiece this time out as we crunch the numbers to determine whether there really is an alternative to a certain Uruguayan for the armband:

    Marshall (KDavies)
    Ivan Walker Rat/Chester/Gabiddon
    Ramsey Ozil Sessegnon Coutinho (Colback)
    Suarez(C) Lukaku (Rooney)

initial plan was to downgrade Sessegnon with the 1 ft. but think back it be more useful next gw if i save it. thoughts ?

I agree, I would give Sess another week and hope he starts. Maybe look at Ozil to Hazard next week (since you have Ramsey)

Shelvey's one to keep an eye on, but I reckon his input will dwindle once Michu and Bony are back. For a 5th mid benchfodder Bannan's gotta be as good as it gets. Unless you intend to rotate?

I have a midfield dilemma and need some advice. I currently have SAR strikeforce along with Ozil and Hazard which have served me well recently. But my other midfielders are JWP, Barkley and Morrison!! Consistently getting me 1pt each week. There is a lack of decent midfield options apart from Ramsey and is now the best time to jump on that wagon (Everton, City, Chelsea)? I have 2 frees so I could do:

A – Rooney to Lukaku, Barkley to Ramsey (maybe do Ozil to Gerard/Cout next week)
B – Bark & JWP to Brunt/Shelvey/Bannon (keep SAR and Ozil and Haz)
    C – Any other suggestions

    Morning people,

    MIgs - Gazz
    Terry - Merte - Clyne - Baker - Rosenior
    Hazard - Ramsey - Özil - RavMor - Januzaj
    Roo - Suarez - JRod

Very generic I know. However now I got 2 FT and 0.9m in the bank.

    a) Morrison > Oviedo/other cheapie mid
    b) Clyne (how's the injury?) > maybe CRY defender
    c) something else?

Is it crazy to keep rooney and dump aguero next week for lukaku?

I have a feeling that points/£, "suarez, rooney, lukaku" will outperform "suarez, aguero, lukaku" until the WC.

tbh I will give a rating of 6.5. ozil ramb mert all having tough fixtures. no hazard who is on form and shaw haf tough fixtures and with all the injuries southampton unlikely to get cs. as good as terry is attacking wise he is nt keeping cs. barkley and ravel are great budge options but under slight rotations n nt performing great too. i will sell ozil for hazard as he is on form

Last night I was considering Mignolet to Howard to avoid a 0.2 swing. In the end I did not do it, and am putting all my faith in West Ham's inability to score.

This morning I decided to check my intuition against some numbers. So far this season, a good points per million is in the range of 12-13. With 14 games played and 24 to go, that gives an expected points per million for the remainder of the season of about 21.5, meaning that my now lost 0.2 would give me an expected 4.3 points extra if I had invested them wisely.

Not only does Mig need a clean sheet to justify my faith in him, I need save points or negative points for Howard to make it a good deal.

As a rule of thumb though, good value players yield about 0.9 points per million per game. That means that in GW2 saving/gaining 0.1 means an expected value of 3.3 over the season, and can almost justify a hit in itself. Naturally, the value drops throughout the season, but as the above example shows, 0.2 can still justify a hit today, given that you think you will be able to spend the extra funds to its max.

      • 12 Years

However, with a more reasonable points per million of 10 so far this season, my 0.2 would only give me 3.4 extra over the rest of the season, so if I get my clean sheet this week I guess I should still be happy with it.

I see the logic, and I agree with the premise that it's easier to justify taking a couple of hits earlier in the season if you know you can make some value off of it.

The problem for me with looking at value is that it can very easily dictate what moves you want to do, maybe unconsciously. You look at your team and you got one guy dropping and a "perfect" replacement that's rising, it's obvious what you have to do!

Definitely, Brady hasnt played over 60 in a few games and only had a good start to the season. Nasri is hitting form and is surrounded by superstars allowing an abundance of opportunities. With Silva out he is providing the creativity in the midfield. The only upside to Brady is the fact that he takes penalties. I would take the hit.

Shelvey, Brunt are what I was looking at as well. I would try and get Haz in for Walcott? Downgrade Boruc?

Sess got's the fixtures, but yeah, not a lot to pick from. I'd just go cheaper and upgrade def/strikers.

Cheers Dogba. So would you keep the SAR strikeforce and have a midfield of Ozil, Haz, Shelvey, Brunt, Morrison?

Or Baker -> Gabbidon. Villa's defense will go back to Villa of old if Vlaar is out.
