Mesut Ozil notches at the Emirates yet again but Arsenal are denied the three points after Everton sub Gerard Deulofeu hammers home a late leveller. Steve Sidwell and Dimitar Berbatov bag the goals as Fulham end a run of six straight defeats against Villa, while Christian Benteke’s barren scoring streak shows no sign of coming to an end:

Ozil’s Emirates Form Continues
The German’s opener and subsequent maximum bonus points helped him to a 10-point haul against the Toffees in yesterday’s late kick-off. In an impressive run of festive form, Ozil has registered three consecutive double-figure hauls and has now produced 10+ points in four of six appearances in front of his own fans. Undoubtedly, his recent form will earn the summer signing further new owners but Ozil will need to step up his consistency outside of the Emirates – he has produced 26 points in six road trips compared to 59 points in the same number of games at home.

Toffees Defence Passes Another Test
After keeping out United at Old Trafford in midweek, Everton finally conceded on their travels for the first time since Gameweek 7 yesterday. Nonetheless, Fantasy managers will be ready to load up on Roberto Martinez’ backline ahead of a hugely tempting schedule – given that Tim Howard has been beaten in only two of the last seven Gameweeks, an eye-catching run of games over the next six (FUL, swa, SUN, SOU, sto, NOR) looks set to hand the Merseysiders further chance to rack up the clean sheet returns. The Toffees stopper remains at the top of the keeper standings, yet is owned by less than 7% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers, whilst Seamus Coleman and Phil Jagielka (first and second for defenders) also look set to cement their positions at the summit.

Deulofeu’s Class Saves Everton
Having bagged a goal and assist in his first start in Gameweek 13, the young Spaniard has been utilised sparingly by his manager, with a couple of late sub appearances away to United and Arsenal. Deulofeu needed little time to serve a reminder of his abilities, though, lashing home a superb equaliser just five minutes after replacing Kevin Mirallas but, whilst there’s no doubting his class, the issue is his classification across the Fantasy games. Listed as a forward, his appeal is as good as non-existent and merely threatens to curtail Mirallas’ game time across the above-mentioned schedule – with those three home games on the horizon, there’d be no real surprise to see him handed one, or maybe two starts – a real concern for the Belgian’s owners. Romelu Lukaku’s assist for Deulofeu’s equaliser means he’s now produced eight goals and a trio of assists in 11 appearances for the Merseysiders – the big Belgian looks poised to rack up the returns over the festive period and is surely set for a major bandwagon as he bullies his way up the Fantasy standings.

Sidwell’s Budget Appeal
Dropped for only the second time this season in Rene Meulensteen’s first match in charge in the midweek clash against Tottenham, the 5.0 priced midfielder returned to the first-team with a bang yesterday. The new Cottagers boss opted for a 4-3-3 against Villa and, drafted into the central midfield three, Sidwell’s opener was his third strike of the season – just one fewer than his tally for 2012/13. With maximum bonus points also in the bag, Sidwell has now scored 52 points in the FPL game, which is more than any midfielder with a starting price of 5.0 or under. He’ll never be the most glamourous Fantasy pick but, providing he can nail down a starting berth under the new manager, he could appeal to those scouring the market for a cut-price option. Fulham face Everton and City in the next two but Meulensteen’s side may well be set to benefit from the subsequent four matches (nor, hul, WH, SUN).

Meulensteen Arrival Boosts Berbatov
The departure of Martin Jol seems to have helped the Bulgarian as well. Berbatov had managed just a goal and assist over the first 13 Gameweeks but has already equalled that tally in two games under his former coach at United. Having picked up a midweek assist against his former club, Spurs, he was in the points again courtesy of a coolly-taken spot-kick. Uncertainty may surround his future after the Bulgarian’s agent recently hinted he was looking for a move but if Meulensteen can keep him on board, Berbatov could afford us a somewhat belated option up top as he looks to recapture the form that served up 15 goals, four assists and 28 points in his debut season at the Cottage last time around.

Benteke Blanks Again
With Libor Kozak missing out through injury, Christian Benteke was handed a quick return to the starting line-up after dropping to the bench in midweek. Paul Lambert returned to a 4-3-3 formation, with Gabby Agbonlahor and Andreas Weimann flanking the big Belgian but, despite a 90-minute run out, Benteke was again unable to break his scoring duck – he’s now failed to score in eight appearances since recovering from a hip problem. Paul Lambert’s side have three home games in four up next (MUN, stk, CPL, SWA) but, in addition to their lack of cutting edge up top, have further concerns ahead of next week’s home game with United – Ron Vlaar missed out yesterday due to a calf complaint sustained in midweek, whilst Fabian Delph picked up a fifth yellow of the season and is suspended for the visit of the champions.

Not really, just dodgy. There have been quite a few examples of minor touches getting assists so it isn't the first, and won't be the last. Under the rules, if there's a touch, it has to be an assist.

Fantasy Football Scout Daily Hot Topic

    Rooney v Lukaku.

If we are to accept that Suarez is undroppable and all credible managers now own him, plus that Aguero’s explosive returns particularly at home make him essential who do we fill the third striker berth with?

After looking at form, fixtures and a sprinkling of teams in the top 100 Rooney and Lukaku are the standout options.

Many of you will have one. Some will have neither. Whichever one you choose I think will be a season defining move. Both have great fixtures, both have the form…but only one plays for a team with form. One is cheaper as well.

There is plenty more analysis members can do in the members area.

But just looking at some basic stats on the FPL site gives us a nice indication of their potential. Also worth baring in mind though that Rooney has played more games.

Points per game Rooney – 7, Lukaku 5.6
    Goals – Lukaku and Rooney – 8
    Assists – Rooney – 7, Lukaku – 4
    BPS – Rooney - 105 , Lukaku – 82

Given the difference in minutes played Lukaku is better at scoring goals and is doing well with bonus. Rooney has the edge with assists….but is that worth the extra money?

In conclusion who of these two strikers are you picking/have picked for the festive run in and why?

And has anyone dropped one of Suarez or Aguero to get either/both in?

I suppose it all comes down to context and what you'd do with the money. Right now it looks like the ideal squad balance is reverting to type and you want at least two 9+ mids, so Lukaku seems to be indicated as the better, or at least the more flexible, pick.

I have two 9+ Mids along with Ramsey & SAR

Got Walker, GJ & Coleman in defense too

I think it's possible to have 2 9+ mids with SAR but if you wanna got 3 big hitting mids (eg Hazard, Silva, walcott) then only Lukaku makes more sense

I have Lukaku and had Rooney. Now that RVP has returned I think Rooney's points scoring will be less. I m keen to draft him in next week however and will probably play Lukaku, Rooney and Suarez over the next 3 and possibly transfer Suarez/Rooney out for Aguero when City play Palace at home.

I'm going with Lukaku (plus Aguero and Suarez). I think the money it frees up justifies his inclusion over Rooney for now and leaves you with a more balanced team. However, Rooney is the more in form player (albeit in a side with less form) and is a more reliable captaincy option unlike Lukaku. I've been holding free 2 free transfers for a couple of weeks now (and plan to continue that way) ready to get Rooney in should he continue the way he has and Lukaku take a downturn.

At the momment though there is no Silva so ill continue with Rooney/Aguero until hes back.

I've gone with both + Suarez. No Aguero is a risk but looking forward to get Silva in the squad.

Preseason I tried to make the point that the attacking points will be spread out amongst the City attack and that has been proved correct though definitely didn't expect this level of output (of which Aguero has benefited strongly from the trashings)

I still hold to that. Meanwhile for Everton and United, Rooney and Lukaku are heavily involved in their sides goals.

From GW5-15, goal involvement are as follows:

      Rooney - 62.5%
      Lukaku - 55.0%
      Aguero - 48.3%

Though this might not get a lot of love from Aguero owners due to the fact that Aguero's 48.3% is huge in terms of points, I'm counting on the fact that they won't steam roll opponents every week for the rest of the season, especially as teams start to be more cautious in 2nd half of season.

      #17 Suarez (CAR)
#18 Lukaku (SUN) or Rooney (hul)
      #19 Aguero (CPL)
      #20 Suarez (HUL)
#21 Lukaku (NOR) or Rooney (SWA)

Therefore, Lukaku's choice will be better than Rooney.....

Totally agree, that I've already sold Rooney for Lukaku last GW.

The only argument is if someone opt to captain Hazard instead of Lukaku at GW 16 & 18. Even so, the $3 differences does not look justified for me.

With Manchester United's next four and Everton's next seven fixtures I'm prepared to forego the City cover, given it is during some hard opponents visits. (Next three)

The choice for me was between Aguero's great home performances and Suarez' good all round potential,
Suarez won the argument for me, as much for the fact I already have the three strikers I currently want.
My midfield is OK, so now I can concentrate on a very shabby defence.

      I've Rooney Suarez Aguero.

      I would captain all three.

      I wouldn't captain Lukaku.

The money factor is interesting thou.

Using PPG is misleading. I normally use P90M (point per 90-minute) to analyse regular players.

      P90M:
      Rooney 7.42
      Lukaku 7.12 (exclude Chelsea's stat)

Assume you have unlimited budget, Rooney could be better. But who will buy 0.3 pts-per-game by $3?

Given the fixtures I would want both.

But I'm with Stilicho I'm that the price of the Everton man gives you more flexibility and balance elsewhere.

By the way, it's.... Lukakaaaaa 😉

Suarez Aguero and Lukaku. Lukaku's fixtures are very tasty, and that extra 2 million meant I could afford Hazard in the midfield, which so far has worked out well for me.

      Here's what FLV sent me

"Hello, just thought i'd let you know Somebody's gonna get lit up and Champ will compete in the final of my comp. This will take place during gameweek 15."

Did you compete in the final over Gameweek 15? If not I'll change the copy. If the error is with FLV's spreadsheet then I'll email him to get him to change it.

    hi guys,

i am a newbie so I need some help> how so that i bought yaya for 9.0, his current price is 9.6 and when I want to sell him only 9.0 will add to my bank? It should have been 9.3 right?

    also my team is:
    marshall - vorm
    chico - gabbi - coleman - santon - chester
    haz - yaya - rambo - sess - barkley
    kun - luis - lukaku

want to do yaya + sess > wally + ravel? maybe to free up some funds for silva once hes fit (not doing yaya to wally this week, but need to prepare for the same :))

While Rooney wil probably score every game more or less, you want aguero for those 7-0 and 6-0 games

Yes currently I don't want to get Lukaku also, I don't need him and I am very happy with SAR.

I have so say after watching the games yesterday, that Barkley is class - head and shoulders above Ramsay IMO. The number of times he turned or ghosted past Arteta and other mids just showed what a talent he is. IMO, Arsenal will need to upgrade Arteta, maybe Diaby if he gets fit.

Alright lads. So I ran a statistical regression for score predictions up to GW 20, corrected for anomalies, based on my predictions.

This took ages and I think it looks very likely! Appreciate this you mothers.

The calculation factored home/away form of both teams.

The correction factored inj, sus and last season results against same opposition.

Why do you have to be the way you are? Why can't you get a girlfriend and let people have fun? Did you really think anyone, including myself thought this was going to happen exactly as stated?
