Emmanuel Adebayor bags a brace in his first start of the season as Spurs pick up the points in their first match since the dismissal of Andre Villas-Boas. Adam Lallana grabs a goal and assist for the injury-hit Saints, while Seamus Coleman and Ross Barkley both find the net as Everton climb to two points off the summit:

Adebayor Comes in from the Cold
Having scored in the midweek cup loss to West Ham, the Togo international was handed his first league start of the season for the trip to St Mary’s. With Tim Sherwood keeping faith with a 4-4-2, Adebayor partnered Roberto Soldado in attack and leapt firmly onto our Fantasy radars by bagging a brace in a 3-2 win which, incredibly, saw Spurs score more than twice for the first time this season. Clearly, the caretaker manager is looking to go on the attack to stake a claim for the permanent job and, with a trio of kind-looking home games in the upcoming four (WBA, STO, CPL), Adebayor, priced at 7.7 and with an ownership of just 0.7%, suddenly offers us a real differential worth considering over the festive period.

Lallana Back in the Points
Back in the starting line-up after a knock forced him onto the bench last week, the Saints skipper ended a run of five straight blanks by playing a part in both his side’s goals yesterday. Having opened the scoring for Mauricio Pochettino’s men, Lallana teed up Rickie Lambert for the hosts’ second and, with two bonus points also accrued, his 12-point haul was his fourth double-figure return of the season. Lallana is now up to fifth for midfielders in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game – only Yaya Toure, Aaron Ramsey, Eden Hazard and Mesut Ozil have managed to pick up more points so far – and, with Cardiff, West Brom and Sunderland in the next five, he could be set for further investment after dropping down to 6.9 last week.

Saints Defensive Concerns Abound
With Luke Shaw joining fellow full-back Nathaniel Clyne and keeper Artur Boruc on the sidelines, it’s fair to say Southampton are far from full-strength at the back right now. Pochettino’s decision to drop Jose Fonte and opt for Jos Hooiveld alongside Dejan Lovren at centre-half meant that yesterday’s line-up contained just one of the five players who had helped the club to a record of three goals against over the first nine Gameweeks. The drop in resilience has been stark – the St Mary’s side have conceded in each of the subsequent eight matches in a run which has seen them ship 15 goals and earn just a single victory. There’s no doubt the schedule has been firmly against them, though, and with the fixtures easing a little after the turn of the year, many will still be eyeing up the Saints’ assets for our winter wildcards, providing their injuries start to ease.

Coleman in the Goals Again
Everton may have conceded in each of their last three but their right-back continues to rack up the points thanks to his attacking potential. Coleman has now found the net in three of the last five Gameweeks and, with many of his backline rivals failing to keep pace, he has extended his lead at the top of the FPL defender standings. His fourth goal of the season has equalled his best ever tally back in 2010/11 and, with Roberto Martinez’ team still leading the way for clean sheets, with eight accrued, it’s little wonder the Republic of Ireland international is the most popular defender in the game, with over 39% ownership. With a hugely favourable run of games still on their agenda (SUN, SOU, sto, NOR), the Toffees look likely to earn plenty more Fantasy interest over the festive period.

Barkley the Toffees Hero
A stunning free-kick broke the Swans’ resistance and ensured Everton’s confidence remains sky high right now. Having peaked in price at 5.7 back in Gameweek 9, Barkley had steadily lost owners due to a lack of returns, while a single start in four between Gameweeks 10-13 hardly helped his cause, as Martinez looked to prevent him from burnout. A run of four appearances in the first XI indicates he’s back in the frame, though, and with his cost now sitting at 5.1, he looks likely to undergo a resurgence in ownership – whilst his class is undoubted, it’s worth noting he’s one of three Toffees players still balancing on the Suspension Tightrope; a caution in either of the next two will earn Barkley a single-match ban.

Elsewhere for the Toffees, Roberto Martinez is hopeful Steven Pienaar will be fit for the Boxing Day home game against Sunderland after the South African limped off late on at the Liberty yesterday. Earlier this morning, the Spaniard also confirmed Leighton Baines is available for the Black Cats clash, whilst Nikica Jelavic missed the Swansea match due to a hamstring problem.

Problems Building for Laudrup
With Michel Vorm sidelined due to knee surgery, Swansea were also devoid of Michu’s services after the Spaniard was ruled out with an ankle injury. The Welsh club have problems at both ends of the pitch right now – a deflected own goal from Bryan Oviedo doesn’t take away from the fact they are struggling to find the net and have scored more than a single goal in just one of the last five. With just one clean sheet in eight Gameweeks to their name, Michael Laudrup’s have been anything but resilient and now brace themselves for a schedule which is set to prove the catalyst for a Fantasy exodus – games against Chelsea, City, United and Spurs in the next five are set to see plenty part company with the likes of Ashley Williams (6% owned) and Jonjo Shelvey (9%) over the next few days and beyond.

Liverpool can't keep a clean sheet.
Skrtel (5.4) -> a cheaper defender, to generate some cash.

These offers are basically free money.

Ignoring complicated stuff (like laying off on Betfair), but the first bet on something low risk - I usually choose over 2.5 goals. Then whatever happens with your in-play bet is a bonus.

The question to ask should be what is the maximum stake, make sure you put 2x£50 on if you can.

And if you have a Betfair account and understand the concept of laying - some people just don't get it - you can make sure you win money whatever the outcome.

Most people write their PL standings prediction in August and just keep it in a drawer or whatever.

I do something else that doubles a fantasy exercise.

Every five GW's I do this, and it broke me out of the 'expectation' habit and switched my thinking to 'probabilities'.

Here goes: today, predict the PL standings after GW 22 games, top 5 teams only with points (important).
Then forget about it. When GW 22 arrives, you may be wrong or right but it is an amazing analysis of your thought process. You will see, maybe for the first time, WHY you went wrong, instead of just feeling disappointed or happy- lucky or unlucky.

Now, I don't always act on it, e.g I don't have Coleman but mostly I do (started Janujaz and Barkley this GW).

True knowledge is knowing that you know nothing.

Right now, the game is on. No-one has said any different.

But there is some severe weather around the country, including London, and transport links are expected to be affected. If the trains and tubes are really heavily affected then they might call the game off because fans wouldn't be able to get to the stadium.

I'm honestly toying with the idea of just getting Ade in for the next two games as a punt. and a great differential.

I'm gonna keep him for Sunderland, maybe for Southampton. West Brom will bring it to Spurs, they're not shabby at the back when they want to play and Foster is back. Negredo is a better shout but will prob be rested for Palace game and much less effective without Aguero.

Dzeko could be a crafty Christmas punt 🙂

Any scouts about ?...I keep hearing people refer to defenders ( in particular ) as BAPs magnets...when it isn't true sometimes...Often times Baps come their way through happenstance and not because they are better at racking up BPS overall ( Mert's shirt pull as an example for the pen and subsequent assist and BAPS swing) ...I can't find anywhere on the members site that tots up the BPS and therefore the likelihood of BAPS from one player to another...Is it there ?..or can it be added in somewhere ?

Not sure what you mean by totaling up the BPS. Surely the FPL site gives that info?

Yes it does but it's a bit long winded when it could be incorporated into the comparison tool. the real BAPS magnets are those who gain most BPS over a period of time...and so have an increased chance of higher BAPS between defenders (most important between defenders than other positions)...

They don't hold FPL data in the members' area, unfortunately. You would have thought they could have the bps data because it's all driven off the Opta stats which they already have.

                You could try here:

Oh that's a shame....As things have panned out this season those little sideways passes from defenders that rack up the BPS is quite an important stat...

                    Yes, definitely.

The Scouts did do an article quite a few weeks ago highlighting that particular facet of the bps system. Started a mini Chico bandwagon if I recall because he was topping the chart of defenders getting the 3bps every week from his pass completion.

Yep...a great case in point...A lot of FPL players have decided that Williams is the BAP magnet at Swansea because he got 3 BAPS earlier in the season...but in fact Chico has accrued 99 BPS to Williams 85 ...so going forward Chico is slightly more likely to get the three Baps should Swansea ever get a clean sheet again ( ! )

And yet Williams has more actual bonus points by 9 to 6.

Yeah, other factors come into play so the real figure we need is BPS per game played...as we can find for a lot of other stats..

BPS is useless for defenders from high scoring teams too. Can't compete unless a CS and 3 BPS from passing to give 9 base BPS.

Agreed..they are more use when deciding between defenders at the other end of the scale..When choosing between defenders who build a bit of a home fortress.

9 is usually easily enough for baps in low scoring games.

If an accurate-passing defender can assume a base bps of 9 for a clean sheet, he'll surely meet the definition of 'bap magnet'.

When looking at defenders, pass completion % with 30 or more passes is the most important followed by tackles, 8 recoveries then the total of blocks, interceptions and clearances. Pretty sure there was a pass completion table around.

Yeah it's quite complicated...Overall though when choosing defenders this season there would seem more to consider than last term. Chances conceded per team, chances created by player and all that stuff...but just as important is the potential for BAPS...driven by ( in theory) those player with the highest BPS...I can continue to look at it on the FPL site but I just thought it would be nice to have it in the members area if possible.

people so harsh on lukaku, he is best with the ball to his feet, how man times was the ball lumped into him last night (mainly by distin or mccarthy) for him to take down on his chest or flick on for no one in particular?

my main criticism of him is that his runs need to be more varied. there was a chance last night for him to go near post a few times and he didnt seem interested. always wants it pulled back into centre/just in front of 6 yard area

              and the previous 3 games?

i said it couple of games ago, he is lost in that system, hemakes runs for through balls when team are going down wing, he takes too many touches to get ball under control, he thinks he has ability to roll round defenders but turns like a broken tractor. he couldnt even win headers against average defenders yesterday.

I have no clue why i bought him when i knew all this.

he did a brillant one two with pienaar for colemans goal in the last game. his general play hasnt been that bad. giroud can take the ball down and lay it off in two touches, lukaku cant. everton need to play to bis strenghts more than they do

I think that's a large part. Silva is a much classier footballer. But Yaya is very effective for City and for FF points with frees this season and pens since Aguero is out.

Maybe less nailed on but looks much more threatening tbh. Could have had a goal (hit the bar)and another assist or two in the Fulham game alone.
