We present three wise men for the Boxing Day โ€œdifferentialsโ€, bearing possible gifts of double-figure potential, set-piece threat and midfield budget appealโ€ฆ

Emmanuel Adebayor

Emmanuel Adebayor is a Fantasy asset who comes complete with a health warning โ€“ heโ€™s not to be trusted. Equally capable of spectacular brilliance and bafflingly abject displays, the Togo international is nonetheless that rare commodity โ€“ a differential capable of exploding points.

Sunday demonstrated Adebayorโ€™s potential, not just to Tottenhamโ€™s campaign but also to Fantasy managers as a new consideration for our forward lines. While weโ€™ve waited patiently for Roberto Soldado to click and deliver on his La Liga promise to help break up the template up top, it could well be that Spurs harbour another player who can play his part.

Tim Sherwood did not hesitate to bring Adebayor in from the cold, pointing to his โ€œhistoryโ€ as a player for the justification of his faith. Having recorded 17 goals and 12 assists back in 2011/12, Fantasy managers also have a recent track record to cling to when considering Adebayor as an asset.

Even with a modest 7.7 price tag, Adeabyorโ€™s uncanny ability to disappoint provides a major caveat. However, with just three Gameweeks to go before we earn the opportunity to refresh our lineups, Adebayor offers a tantalising option โ€“ย a new proposition up front capable of double-figure returns with back-to-back home matches against West Brom and Stoke as a platform for his resurgence.

Leighton Baines

The Everton left-back is expected to be restored to the starting lineup for the Toffees’ home clash with Southampton โ€“ a fixture that offers Baines a perfect re-introduction to the Fantasy reckoning.

Despite this, Baines faces a battle to win a place in our affections. In his absence, Seamus Coleman has built on his promising early season form with an explosion of three goals in five outings, cementing his place at the top of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) defender rankings and as Evertonโ€™s key option amongst their rearguard.

However, even with a lofty 7.4 price tag, Baines should not be overlooked. Set-pieces have already played a significant role in our seasons with Yaya Toure a major benefactor of the points they can bring. Baines has already gained from two strikes from dead-balls against West Ham and will be back on set-pieces for the Boxing Day clash, along with spot-kick duties.

Now owned by just 13% of FPL managers, Baines makes an unlikely differential but, such is the strength of Colemanโ€™s recent charge, heโ€™s set to become just that in the months ahead.

Jordan Mutch

While Peter Whittingham is the undisputed weapon of choice in a limited arsenal of Cardiff options, Mutch has gradually emerged as a worthy consideration at the very bottom of the budget bracket. Available for 0.7 less than his team-mate, if you can’t stretch to Whittingham’s set-piece prowess, Mutch is shaping up as viable cover for Cardiff’s impending survival scrap.

A third goal of the league campaign arrived at Anfield on Saturday, with Whittingham typically providing the cross, as Mutch continued to build on his reputation in the Bluebirds lineup. With a pair of assists and six consecutive starts in the league, this 4.5-priced asset could provide a decent midfield enabler in our January wildcard tinkerings. Sort by value in the FPL stats and Mutch is rated fifth but, along with Hullโ€™s Jake Livermore, is by far the cheapest option on show.

A home clash with Southampton on Boxing Day, followed by the visit of Sunderlad two days later, provides Mutch with another opportunity to stake his claim and edge his way into our thinking for 2014โ€™s refresh.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Question of the Day (sorry if there's been several alreeady)

Are Everton going to continue using Lukaku as a decoy for their attacks, or actually pass to him?

My Lukaku(c) vs Sunderland rests on this.

It's not that they don't want to pass to him, it's that he's always marking a defender. Terrible off the ball

I think that may be a little harsh, Rover. Everton certainly have a style of attacking and that is to feed in the FBs on overlaps while their wingers cut in and occupy the opposition's FB's. Lukaku needs earlier, direct service to get the best out of him.

    Distin, Coleman, Baker (Moxey), (Chico)
    Silva, Wally, Rambo, Hazard (Yacob)
    Roo, Suarez, Lukaku

    0.1m in the bank.

Do i take a -4 and if so for who? I'm worried about the following not playing:

Distin, Baker, Moxey, Rambo, Hazard, Yacob

the only -4 i see is Yacob to Livermore - surely not worth the -4 right?

I just woke up from my post Christmas lunch snooze in a cold sweat.

I dreamt I missed the deadline and so still had Coutinho and Mignolet against City instead of Silva and Szczesny.

    @THE DAGO

Negredo not nailed on for every game, Carrick back soon (Rooney won't have to play deep), Cabaye doing well (team diversification is important imo) and probably most importantly my selling price for Ramsey is 7.4m

also if you can't see Rooney outscoring them by much, that's admitting that he'll outscore them ๐Ÿ˜†

I sold Rooney last week because I thought he was injured for WHM and thought hul was a difficult fixture. I pray I'm not wrong on both

To be a man is to have principles. One of my principles is that skill (the application of knowledge) will outshine luck more often than not.

In the context of fantasy football and given that (generally speaking), I think fixtures over form, then I must be able to find a player that will outscore Suarez away at Citeh this week. This game is very much broken (or at least, less interesting), if Suarez scores more then 5pts tomorrow.

I'm going to brave it and see if my risk is rewarded.

Last week was Ramsey > Silva, so I may have pushed my luck too far already!

    Hello everyone!
Need some good tips for my squad, so i'd appreciate some help ๐Ÿ™‚

    Boruc - Gazzaniga
    Baker - Brayford - Olsson(Norwich) - Coleman - Terry
    Ozil - JWP - Barkley - Ravel - Ramsey
    Lukaku - Rooney - Suarez

I have 3.3 in the bank and 1 FT.
Thinking about doing Ozil + JWP --> Silva and Cabaye?
    Please help! ๐Ÿ™‚

Have you abondoned Brayford as lost without hope of ever being useful to your team? ๐Ÿ˜‰

I like your moves but Arsenal fixtures have turned quite favourable so Ozil + Ramsey wouldn't be a bad pairing. I'd personally prefer Walcott + Ozil if funds allow. Walcott and Arsenal play Newcastle on the 29th which was quite an explosive game last year...

Alternatively, there's some budget bargains out there. I like Dejagh and Kacaniklic at Fulham and they have a nice run of fixtures (Rene has them playing with Berbatov in a false 9 and the wingers bombing pass, so they could be good value).

Defense is solid, I like it. Try not to take a hit now that the Jan WC is on the horizon.

        Thanks for the answer!

Brayford can't help me, so i have to get rid of him sooner or later. I agree with you on the Theo and Mesut pair, but all of my friend have Ozil and Ramsey, if I sell either one, I'm in danger of loosing points.

I have the possibility to get in some new good players. I was thinking about Silva, Yaya, Cabaye and Debuchy and get rid of JWP, Brayford and maybe Ravel.

Since I don't have any city players, iI thought of selling Ozil, since he will probably be rested and getting either Silva or Yaya.

Anybody think Yaya is a good captain choice for tomorrow? On pens/frees and consistently scores at the Etihad.
Also, could be grasping at straws here but I think there is a good chance of City getting a pen tomorrow as Skrtle's shirt pulling was highlighted so much at the weekend.

In case you hadn't noticed, this is me looking for someone to approve my Toure captaincy gamble!!
