We’ve reached the Seventh Round of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup VII, as sponsored by Paddy Power, after 16 more teams were eliminated in the previous batch of matches. As we cast an eye over the weekend’s results and look to the next round, those still in with a shout should note that the upcoming fixtures will be played out over Gameweek 21 – the 10 fixtures on New Year’s Day do not count towards your points hauls:

Site regular Tony Hibberts Love Child squeezed into the last 16 by a one-point margin. Having won his tie 60-59, he now sits in 268th overall up – the highest-ranked manager remaining in the draw – and is up against Tdubb05 for a place in the Quarter-Finals.

Site moderator applebonkers is still in with a shout of snapping up the silverware. A 63 point-haul was enough to see him through last time around and earn him a spot against sim716 when the cup resumes in Gameweek 21.

The 2ndMan deserves a mention here. A tally of 72 points was higher than any other manager over the last round and sees him square up to 11 Men in Flight in the next round. Yes the Sess! racked up 71 points – the second-highest haul of Round 6 – and will now face FPLAaron, who, with an overall position of 464,000, is the rank outsider for the tournament.

Finally, Tal was the lowest-scoring manager to earn a spot in the next round after registering 54 points in Gameweek 19 – he now goes head-to-head with EricCantona_707.

If you want a full update on how the ties played out in the previous round, click here. Otherwise, click here for the Seventh Round details.

As always, we wish good luck to the final 16 as they brace themselves for battle!

Been asking this question a lot. Not much response as I figure not many people know.

AFIK, Parr was the first choice the whole of the last season. Moxey slotten in due to an injury. Parr's a fan-favourite too it seems. Hopefully he's nailed down the spot.

"Steven has joined back in training, so we'll see how he is for Hull, and I would think that probably by the Stoke game [January 12] we'll have a number of the others who'll not be too far away.

"But certainly for the Hull game we'll have to rely on more or less what we had."

Basically Brendan is saying that Gerrard won't be starting against Hull?

generally: highly doubt he plays against Hull and personally: I already took a hit to get rid of Clyne and Ravel (did Clyne > Ward first and then didn't want to lose out on more drops from Ravel so brought in Ki)

plus there's no rush, he's closer to dropping than he is to rising..

One too many palace IMO. The point of rotating defenders is to have options each week with as good a fixture as possible. By doubling you limiting your options and forced to play other 3 (who may not always even be available) when palace have bad fixture.

Why does the FPL site (under "Rules") say the FPL cup is a "random draw" when in fact it is seeded based on Gameweek 17 scores ??

I answered with this on the previous page

      Qualifying

The top 2,097,152 scorers in Gameweek 17 will enter the first round. If there are more than 2,097,152 qualifiers then there will be a random draw amongst the lowest scorers to see who qualifies.

      How it works

Each qualifying team will be randomly drawn against another in the first round. The winner (the team with the highest gameweek score minus any transfer points), will progress to the second round and another random draw, the losers are out! This process continues until the final Gameweek when the two remaining teams contest the cup final.

It seems pretty straightforward to me. To end up with a final 2 teams in GW38 they have to start with a number of teams that is a multiple of 2, this number is 2,097,152.
If you have a GW Rank above 2m in GW17 you're in, and all draws are random

Sorry, i can read the rules myself, that's why im posting this - ie to point out that the rules on the site are misleading. You are wrong. The 1st Round Cup Draw (Wk 18) is seeded based on Week 17 scores.

          Where is your evidence?

I've checked the highest scorer of GW17 as a quick check:

          GW rank 1 here: http://fantasy.premierleague.com/entry/1724288/event-history/17/
          Played
          GW rank 2,077,621: http://fantasy.premierleague.com/entry/1923450/event-history/17/

In a direct seeding system the highest ranked player would get the 2,097,152nd placed entrant, surely?

Now I'll grant you that due to the "random draw amongst the lowest scorers" mentioned above, this team could be the last entrant in the competition, but I can see no direct evidence of that, no reason a random draw couldn't result in this.
What is your reason for thinking that there is seeding?

He is right I think, the draw in GW18 was fixed. They've sorted GW17 scores and simply created pairs: first - last, (first-1) - (last+1) and so on symmetrically.
There were several thousand teams with GW rank 2,077,621 (apparently more than 20,000). The team you linked was apparently the last to have made the cut.

Here are top 5 that week in my random sample of 20,000 teams, all of them got teams with very low scores in GW17:

Ah hah, that is very interesting.

So not a random draw atall

Admittedly Gameweek rank doesn't correlate very strongly with overall rank, but that's still not random.

It'd be difficult to track down whether the GW19 fixtures are random or based on GW18 rank or something else, but I feel we deserve to know if so.

Funnily enough, 4 of those 5 guys were knocked out by their 'weak' opponents 🙂
I think GW 19 pairs were random. For example, this guy had a monster score in GW18, but still got an opponent with a great GW18 rank as well:

Those initial GW18 ties appear to have rudimentary seeding at first glance, though my sample of 3 is not statistically significant tbh..

Are we (and by we I mean people other than me) worrying too much about rotations when there iarr 11 days to the next round of league games and most top teams not taking the cup so seriously these days. Surely rest for key players more likely in the cup?

To some extent. Then again City and Arsenal's squads are really depleted at the moment.

Also City, Sunderland, West Ham and United have two cup games between GW20 and GW21. So still expecting rotation.
