We’ve reached the Seventh Round of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup VII, as sponsored by Paddy Power, after 16 more teams were eliminated in the previous batch of matches. As we cast an eye over the weekend’s results and look to the next round, those still in with a shout should note that the upcoming fixtures will be played out over Gameweek 21 – the 10 fixtures on New Year’s Day do not count towards your points hauls:

Site regular Tony Hibberts Love Child squeezed into the last 16 by a one-point margin. Having won his tie 60-59, he now sits in 268th overall up – the highest-ranked manager remaining in the draw – and is up against Tdubb05 for a place in the Quarter-Finals.

Site moderator applebonkers is still in with a shout of snapping up the silverware. A 63 point-haul was enough to see him through last time around and earn him a spot against sim716 when the cup resumes in Gameweek 21.

The 2ndMan deserves a mention here. A tally of 72 points was higher than any other manager over the last round and sees him square up to 11 Men in Flight in the next round. Yes the Sess! racked up 71 points – the second-highest haul of Round 6 – and will now face FPLAaron, who, with an overall position of 464,000, is the rank outsider for the tournament.

Finally, Tal was the lowest-scoring manager to earn a spot in the next round after registering 54 points in Gameweek 19 – he now goes head-to-head with EricCantona_707.

If you want a full update on how the ties played out in the previous round, click here. Otherwise, click here for the Seventh Round details.

As always, we wish good luck to the final 16 as they brace themselves for battle!

    Repost for a different crowd!

I've heard a lot of talk about strategies for defenders on your wildcard, and a common reoccurrence is 2 'big' defenders, e.g. Coleman and Mertesacker, and 3 rotating cheapies that you will play 1 of every week.

I've looked for some cheap rotations with decent fixtures, (most weeks), until GW 38. The fixtures I have listed start in GW 21, the first week after the January WC can be played.

    Crystal Palace, Norwich and Sunderland
    (Ward [4.1], Molsson [4.2], Brown [4.3]) = 12.6m

ful, HUL, HUL, car, STO, whu, TOT, WBA, STO, CRY, SUN, WHU, WBA, AVL, whu, CAR, LIV, SWA.

    Cardiff, Norwich and Hull
    (Burner [4.2], M. Olsson [4.2], Chester [3.9]) = 12.4m

WHU, HUL. NEW, NOR, sun, AVL, HUL, NEW, FUL, sot, SUN, sto, CRY, ful, STO, sun, AVL, EVE.

Not cheap enough for you? Check out this beauty...

    Cardiff, Crystal Palace and Hull
    (Burner [4.2], Ward [4.1], Chester [3.9]) = 12.2m

WHU, STO, HUL, NOR, WBA, AVL, HUL, NEW, FUL, sun, WBA, sto, CRY, AVL, STO, sun, avl, EVE.

i wouldn't go near Wes Brown with a large golden barge pole.

Norwich are awful at the back this season.

Cardiff - Hull - Palace are decent investments.

Norwich have so far got clean sheets against Southampton, Stoke, Cardiff, Crystal Palace, WBA and Sunderland. Since they'll only be played in easy fixtures like these I think there's nothing wrong with having them in a rotation.

Yep sure does Koflok, I pointed that out in my GK rotation post. An option would be to have a Cardiff and Sunderland defender and another cheapie rooted to the bench if you only needed one of them to play each week.

          Fair point.

I'm currently looking for a 3 man for 2 slots defensive rotation as I'm planning to go 4-3-3 in the later half of the season

Yeah that would be great. Currently mine is the Cardiff Sunderland rotation + West Ham who have decent streak of fixtures and then switch to Aston Villa for the later half.

Surely there's something better out there

getting Kos is a good plan, a cheaper Midfielder than Wilshire would help towards getting Aguero back or upgrading a defender to Merte/Coleman?

Planning on Distin>Kosc next week & swapping double Everton for double Arsenal. Would most likely acquire for 5.3m then, only problem is Everton have NOR and Arsenal avl. Still gonna do it I think and play WC final 4 day GW.

I'd ditch Silva and Dzeko as the priority. Initial plan.
Not keen on Januzaj game time and the benefits of a better mid for Silva far outweigh that of Collins> Ward.

Shame there is no room for Cabaye or Lallana... or even a Gerrard. Can't have 'em all!

      Looks good Champ.

Hold on Ozil - Wenger may ease him in. Ozil > Cabaye and Whittaker > Kosc, keep the spare cash for any upgrades later. Or could even consider RVP as an early differential over Rooney.

Giroud tired and kicked around plenty just 2 days ago, Rosicky looking useless and playing the full 90, Arteta and Flamini probably switching places (Flamini to the bench) - seems like a good time for Poldi to start.

I don't have it all sorted out just quite yet. I actually picked up Podolski last gameweek, and so you can imagine how happy I was that he didn't play. Here's my lineup at the moment. Doesn't perhaps look so punty on paper. I've tried my fair of tricks throughout the season, though. Not sure they always paid off. This week, I may just take a punt on Ben Arfa. Would have to drop Fer to get him. I picked up Benny Boy earlier in the season just before that little run he had. I am getting that feeling again.

              Marshall

              Terry Coleman Bardsley

              Fer Hazard Yaya Walcott

              Suarez Rooney Podolski

Bench: Lewis, RavMo, Collins, Brayford (may switch out for Ward with my FT)

Did recall you had Ade in your team as well. I was going to bring HBA in for GW19 but felt Pardew would go for a defensive line up. But chances are HBA will definitey start GW20. Too bad already have Cabaye.

Have a similar core of players and definitely looking at the 3rd striker spot for punts to get some greens and catch my ML rivals up top. Worked well in GW19, hoping it does for 20 as well

Yeah. I picked up Adebayor for all of one gameweek. He did nothing, so I got sick and tired and shipped him out for Lukas. Wish I had waited a gameweek. Ade had two assists! It's been that kind of season for me. Surprising that I still have a decent rank in the 200K's. That's not good enough, however. So, like you, I am searching for green arrows.

Whether I pick up Ben Arfa or not, I guess we'll see how it all goes down on Wednesday. I'm pretty sure I'm grabbing him. Just want to see if there is any late info out tomorrow that can help me make a decision.

    mannone
    mert distin olson (burner chester)
    wally nasri januzaj hazard (silva)
    suarez lukaku rooney

biggest problem: my bench is negligible this gw and worried that a few of my starting 11 may not start i.e. hazard/januzaj in which case i can see a massive red arrow.

only solution i can think of is taking
    - Januzaj out...morrison/bannan seems the best option
    - silva out...cabaye/sterling/coutinho/wilshire..already have nasri as city "cover"..
    - burner to ward...decent option but i needed burner to start next gw based on my other def

      Given your solution:
      1) Januzaj-->Sterling, Home fix likely to start. Ravel rumoured not to travel with team.
      2) I'd keep Silva. regular starter, consistent fpl player
      3) Those two rotate well. I also have Gabb, Bur. Looks wasted transfer, IMO.
