So it’s 2014 and all that – time for myself and all at Fantasy Football Scout to wish you, our visitors and community members, a very happy New Year!

As always, I’d like to take this chance to personally give a big shout-out of thanks to all those who have worked with me in the past on the site, along with those who continue to help me maintain and grow it. Again, I have to acknowledge the passion and commitment of those who give their time and have helped me get the site to this point. I also have to thank you, the community, for your support over the past 12 months – despite making some pretty radical changes, you’ve stuck by us and lent your support and I continue to be surprised and overwhelmed by the passion and enthusiasm for Fantasy Football and what we do. Many thanks.

I have to admit, the past year has not been easy. The introduction of the HomeCrowd comments system was not smooth – I had many sleepless nights while Ed battled with server loads. Equally, I was well aware that the new tools, along with the introduction of the mod team, would take some getting used to amongst the community itself – in many ways that’s still the case. There have been changes but they were necessary. Quite simply, HomeCrowd, along with Jonty and his mod team, have allowed me to achieve some peace of mind in the last six months and grab back some of the time that was being consumed by simply trying to manage what is, in my opinion, one of the most active and impassioned communities on the net. I like to thank them for their work and you for your patience and support.

I’d also like to acknowledge the work that Paul has put in over the past year. Now Editor of the site, his tireless ability to produce articles above and beyond my own talents has ensured that Fantasy Football Scout is what it is today. I’d also like to thank Ed for his continual support as Technical Director – always there, almost 24 hours a day, he goes on helping me build and improve what we have. I’m genuinely excited about what he can help us create in the year to come.

On that front, the next year will see more changes – we’ve two new features in development right, now. One of which, the Scoreboard, could even be live in the week or so. The other, the matchday comments, is also on its way – this will hopefully be the first step in creating an all-round, improved experience on the site during matches. Fully integrated with HomeCrowd, I’m very excited about showing you a first version and developing it further in 2014.

Elsewhere, Paul will be recruiting a cast of new writers and Jonty, as Managing Editor, will be working with Ed to develop more new features – including HomeCrowd improvements. All in all, I’m hopeful we can take Fantasy Football Scout on even further in the year ahead.

Finally, I’d like to say, wherever you are tonight, I hope you make it home safely, with a clear head ready for tomorrow’s deadline. Here’s to a great 2014!

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    (posted on the last page)

Need a bit of advice on this:

    Migs
    Gabbidon, Mert, Coleman
    Wally (VC), Yaya, Shelvey, Januzaj
    Rooney, Suarez (C), Lukaku

    Subs: Marshall, Dawson, Morrison, B.Turner

1 FT, 0.9 in the bank

    A) Morrison -> Mutch / Ki
    B) transfer Shelvey out for anyone (suggestions pls)
    C) Keep the FT and play with this subs order

Personally i would probably not trade but Shelvey plays Man City.Im contemplating Ravel - Mutch next week so you could do that ! Shelveys next 3 games arnt good either.Tough

Yeah, that's the conundrum I'm facing here. I would have loved to keep Ravel but I reckon his price is gonna drop a bit, so might as well get someone who plays... But at the same time, Shelvey's got 3 tough games coming up and while he plays, I doubt he's gonna gain much

        Decisions, decisions.

Would Wittingham be a better choice over Mutch?

Anyone else on this site find themselves attaching some kind of seemingly firm identity to the other posters based on their gravs? If a guy on this site has a cute chick grav, for example, I mentally morph that in my mind as if that was the person posting. In reality, if we all met in person, we would have no idea what to expect out of others in terms of looks, etc. I'm not similar looking to Jack Lambert, by the way. For starters, I have my two front teeth. (just something interesting on a psychological level that I have thought about since I signed up for a profile).

Not odd Enlightener, it was discussed some time ago with regard to how people approach each other here and how much difference the grav makes to our impression of someone even before reading their comment.
It was quite a debate at the time. Maybe early hours of New Year's Day wasn't the best time to kick start the debate. 🙂

I have a bad feeling about this Jan "Wildthingy"...

Still feel we should have a choice if we want use it or not. If not, we should get some "benefit" eg 15 points or a free trade somewhere down the line.

Obviously some teams need it because of susp/injuries. I'm happy for them, but the rest of us....

Hi pal. Not sure hey. I kind of "hope" something forces my hand. I have a feeling my ML leader(my older boet) will as he has Rooney/Ivan/Silva/Flan/Clyne/Morr...he took a -4 to sort something out so I want to see what he did and then I suppose he will WC.

I managed to whittle his 74 pt lead down to 30pts now so I think he is keen on new blood in his team.

I'm reluctant to play mine as I possibly want Boruc(a Sout def), Kun etc...

Just did a 4pt hit, Flnaface for Koscielny. Isee most of the top 10 have Mertslacker.

              You take a hit?

That's a good idea. I'd swap it for 30 points mo problem.

Exactly, the clever people (I'm looking at you Wallace_hyde) can calc some value. Maybe Mark can take it up with FPL towers? I really think it's a good idea.

Speaking as a game designer, it's never going to happen for the reason you know.

What is the value of a WC?

Even if you could answer that question, you'd never get the masses to understand and so it becomes a mechanic that is too complex to include in a game that has simple rules, is arguably well balanced, and gets it's complexity from the real world it is based upon.

Can't you just say its worth 30 points if you don't use it? Simple.

The boundaries didn't look very long to me. I'm sure I saw one ball hit halfway up The Remarkables. 😕

Aside from that looks ok for this week but would dump Erik for Carzola until Wildcard based on injuries at arsenal and fixture list
