So it’s 2014 and all that – time for myself and all at Fantasy Football Scout to wish you, our visitors and community members, a very happy New Year!

As always, I’d like to take this chance to personally give a big shout-out of thanks to all those who have worked with me in the past on the site, along with those who continue to help me maintain and grow it. Again, I have to acknowledge the passion and commitment of those who give their time and have helped me get the site to this point. I also have to thank you, the community, for your support over the past 12 months – despite making some pretty radical changes, you’ve stuck by us and lent your support and I continue to be surprised and overwhelmed by the passion and enthusiasm for Fantasy Football and what we do. Many thanks.

I have to admit, the past year has not been easy. The introduction of the HomeCrowd comments system was not smooth – I had many sleepless nights while Ed battled with server loads. Equally, I was well aware that the new tools, along with the introduction of the mod team, would take some getting used to amongst the community itself – in many ways that’s still the case. There have been changes but they were necessary. Quite simply, HomeCrowd, along with Jonty and his mod team, have allowed me to achieve some peace of mind in the last six months and grab back some of the time that was being consumed by simply trying to manage what is, in my opinion, one of the most active and impassioned communities on the net. I like to thank them for their work and you for your patience and support.

I’d also like to acknowledge the work that Paul has put in over the past year. Now Editor of the site, his tireless ability to produce articles above and beyond my own talents has ensured that Fantasy Football Scout is what it is today. I’d also like to thank Ed for his continual support as Technical Director – always there, almost 24 hours a day, he goes on helping me build and improve what we have. I’m genuinely excited about what he can help us create in the year to come.

On that front, the next year will see more changes – we’ve two new features in development right, now. One of which, the Scoreboard, could even be live in the week or so. The other, the matchday comments, is also on its way – this will hopefully be the first step in creating an all-round, improved experience on the site during matches. Fully integrated with HomeCrowd, I’m very excited about showing you a first version and developing it further in 2014.

Elsewhere, Paul will be recruiting a cast of new writers and Jonty, as Managing Editor, will be working with Ed to develop more new features – including HomeCrowd improvements. All in all, I’m hopeful we can take Fantasy Football Scout on even further in the year ahead.

Finally, I’d like to say, wherever you are tonight, I hope you make it home safely, with a clear head ready for tomorrow’s deadline. Here’s to a great 2014!

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Anyone looking for an uber defense during January Wildcard. Please find a 5-way (P3B2) rotation below:
Starts in GW21 and runs through GW 38:

    Sunderland-Villa-Cardiff-Palace-Hull (Brown-Baker-Burner-Parr-Chester) Total:20.2M

    WHM-ARS-Ful
    STK-nor-SOU
    HUL-WBA-STK
    NOR-TOT-new
    WBA-WHM-HUL
    AVL-SOU-car
    HUL-car-new
    NEW-NOR-WBA
    FUL-SOU-whm
    eve-sun-CPL
    WBA-STK-nor
    wba-stk-WHM
    CPL-car-FUL
    sou-AVL-cpl
    STK-whm-SOU
    sun-ful-CAR
    new-avl-HUL
    ful-EVE-SWA

Only 3 tough fixtures out of 54 (ARS, eve, EVE)

This may well be the route for a Silva-Wally-Hazard-Rvp-Aguero-Suarez team 😎

While it's nice to rotate one spot in the defence for a possible clean sheet, I think you need one or two players from solid defensive teams. Expecting 3 of the poor defences to get you clean sheets every week is asking for trouble I think. But who knows, only 3 tough fixtures, it does look pretty sweet.

They don't have to, they are significantly cheaper than the 'solid' defences.

True I suppose. Maybe I just wouldnt be happy going into every week where the likelihood of clean sheets is always slim. But you can make up for it with SAR upfront I suppose

The cheap rotations great in theory , however practice tends to be a little more problematic.

          1) Injuries
          2) Postponements ,
          3) Double gameweeks ,
          4) Appearance of bargains from other clubs

etc etc means they rarely last more than a few weeks

No.4 seems to stem back to my main point. You probably want to get in a defender for a club going on a string of good games, say for example the run Arsenal are on now. Getting Kos at 5.3 seems pretty good for the run up til the end of January and likely to provide more than rotating two cheapies.

No chance I'll take the armband off Suarez, even in this drunken state.
I've seen quite a few considering Walcott, before his flag. He's my VC.
I guess it's still reasonably safe to keep the VC on him?

In other news, happy new year to you all! 😀

roo and silva to poldi and caz would be better 1 week punt if rooney is not going to play part this GW.

i am just looking at Rooney to Poldi myself but rooney would definetely have to be out for it to be worth the risk as some value is lost selling rooney.

Gerrard will play 90 every game since Liverpool doesn't have Europe or Capital One to worry about..check his numbers once Suarez returned until he was injured..you were pretty much guaranteed 4 points from him every week and he was sheisted on a few assists as well..

Been poor recently in concentration. Has a habit for appealing offside and looking at tin linesman rather than playing the whistle. Happened in sot and Sunderland games.
New manager likely to take a look at club captain too and maybe a little more experience will help alongside Caulker.

    Which Sunderland/Cardiff rotation is better?

    a. Bardsley / Burner
    b. Bardsley / Whits
    c. Avoid these teams despite their heavenly rotation?

On paper B looks better because of Whits threat, but CS is easier to predict.

Whits set pieces and non-flat-track-bully status makes it hard to get his points right, I will bench him on away games and he scores or vice versa.

He has scored / assisted against MCI hul ful MUN WBA liv - most of those games I will surely bench him.

Very nice. I could have gained alot more had i not had RVP earlier this season. Lost alot on the Giroud and Sturridge train.

Im WCing the last thing in January unless there is a very enticing DGW

Not sure I see the issue. This team doesn't look that impossible. Mannone is only 4.4. Chester, Ward, and Burner are all cheap. Koscielny is only 5.3. Barkley only 5.3, and maybe he got him cheaper. The 4.3 mid opens up a lot of cash. Seems possible to me.

i can und the appeal of having RVP in the team...proven and great differential..and actually i have also in mind to have the exact same team as u just that i decide to go absolute uber in defence by having cabaye instead of barkley and bardsley instead of coleman lol. guess ur team is the "template" to have the big 6 upfront
