With the frantic festive period now behind us, we can finally take stock and assess the statistics over the last few matches. Having last looked at the data in Gameweek 17, we have three sets of matches to investigate – Arsenal’s midfield, Tottenham’s attack and United and City’s frontmen are all placed under the microscope this time around:

Thinking of this as a template for my wc in gw 24.

    Marshall mannone
    Coleman kosc Evans Chester Whittaker
    Hazard Walcott Silva Cabaye eriksen
    Suarez aguero berahino

    Any thoughts?

Nice. Bit flair with 3-5-2, Berhaino not the worst bench either.

Would prefer Lallana over Cabaye tbf and Nasty over Evans but that's preference

Not sure about Evans (or, more specifically, United) yet.

Would you rotate Beahino, Cabaye and Eriksen at all? I'm not sure Cabaye and Berahino will get enough points to start every week.

I like the core of Hazard Walcott Silva Suarez Aguero, which is something I will aim for. Not sure I can afford 3 big hitting mids without sacrificing somewhere though (perhaps you feel you have, e.g. with your 3rd Striker?)

      Thanks for the thoughts everyone.
I got Cabaye early so can't afford lallana. Also I only have 5 for the defender, which rules out nasty, unless my tv goes up.
I think berahino would a bench option and play 3-5-2

Playing the idea of having RVP Suarez Aguero

    Boruc Davis
    Kosc Coleman Chester Ward Demel
    Walcott Hazard Lallana Ki Mutch
    RVP Suarez Aguero

Chester - Ward : Decent rotation on a budget
Demel : Good post WC fixtures that can be played every week
    Ki Mutch : SUN/CAR rotation.

Can be 3-4-3 with Mutch / Ki or 4-3-3 with Chester / Ward / Demel depending on fixtures.
Would trust odds on CS higher than Ki / Mutch scoring though.

    Thoughts?

Of course that could be the template when Falcao transfers to Chelsea as I can see his price is similar to RVP later on.

Burner was my fav WC defender actually with those home fixtures I can see a few CS coming.
Monitor how Solksjaer manage in these few games.

There's been much discussion about G.K. pairings but I've seen mention of what I am considering. What about these for a G.K. pairing Cardiff + Villa?

    Marshall 4.7 + Guzan 5.1 = 9.8
Gives from GW 23 (for those WC later) - WBA, NOR, WHM, AVL, HULL, NOR, FUL, eve, STK, wba, CPL, cpl, STK, sun, HUL, CHE .

    Worth considering I think?

I'm dissapointed with Ned tbh since Aguero went out Ross , his returns for close on 10m are paltry and it's so easy to see now why
        Aguero
        Yaya/Silva
        Zaba/Bad K
Are the only few worth considering IMHO.

    Morning Guys,

Anybody considering Willian as an option in their WIldcard?

7.5m, less than 5k owners, and seems to have worked his way into the team more often than not.

He also becomes more appealing if Mata and De Bruyne move on in January, reducing his competition.

    Thoughts?

I think he will become more prominent in the team as the season progresses.

As I say, he's now "settled in", and direct competition for his position could be moving on.

I accept he isn't nailed on though, but if he could become secure for say 90% of starts it would be a different story at 7.5m.

was thinking about him as a pre WC punt. Would say he's most nailed on for the third attacking midfield spot in chelseas line up. See last gameweek when he came on and changed the game. Would get Oscar or Hazard if you can manage it though...

Historically the two are very similar players when we look deeper into their underlying statistics, especially on the attacking front.

Koscielny's early red card & subsequent injuries have undoubtedly affected his point total.

Never simply 'look at the points' as it doesn't always tell the whole story mate.

Well considering minutes-wise merte has played less than 2 games more, yet has an extra 5 bonus points, 2 goals and an assist, I think you could quite safely conclude he is the better option 'money no object' ...

Mate, I'm digging back over the past 2 years here, not just looking at the last 18 games.

When we compare the two players 'historically' we find they are quite similar.

This is an opinion, I'm looking at their statistics.

Now, of course the player who has been injury & red card free will have produced more points. That's a given...

However, I'm looking into overall threat on goal & general involvement in play not just who managed to convert a few more of their chances earlier this year.

So in the end, I say again... they are similar players.
Therefore, why not save a buck or two & go with the Frenchmen?

WC OUT: Krul, Shaw, Burner, Cabaye, Sterling, Negredo, Rooney.

Does it have to be Chester over Burner because of cash? I'm very wary of Chester - great price and Hull have kept a useful number of cleanies - but these have mostly been at home and their home fixtures for the rest of the season are tougher than any other team. If he's just a planned benchwarmer then it's ok, but if you're rotating your defenders you will probably need you to focus on the other four.

Chester by a mile over B. Turner.

Cardiff is tied with Fulham for shots conceded this year at a whopping 18.5 per game.

By contrast, Hull only concedes 13.5 per so they are clearly the superior defensive side.

Daniel's right, Kyle. I don't disagree that Hull have, up until now, been defensively superior. But that's had a lot to do with the fixtures and you could reasonably expect the reverse to happen over the rest of the season.

Gentlemen, look at the Season Ticker from GW21 through to GW38.

Hull has the 3rd easiest defensive run of fixtures on the whole.

Conversely, Cardiff is a terrible defensive side as they've conceded a league worst 20.5 shots per game on the road & 16 at home.

For comparison sake, Hull only give up 15.5 away & 11.5 at home.

Now, let's put this all in perspective... Hull's 13.5 shots per game put them on par with Liverpool, Crystal Palace, WBA & Newcastle defensively speaking.

So, perhaps we don't blindly play the Tigers only at home but, recognize that they are in fact, a 'decent' defensive side & use them like any other when the fixtures warrant.

            Cool?

Sorry man... Maybe I made a mistake with the GWs? (It's 5:30am here in Toronto)

Anyway, let's not lose sight of what's important...

I've presented a great case for Hull as a decent defensive side. Right?

Further, I've shown Cardiff to be one of the worst defensive sides thus far.

So in the end, if you'd like to take B. Turner for .3mil more than Chester I feel you're making a mistake.
If all this doesn't sway you then what else can I say?

Finally, we're effing geeks. Honestly, spending this much time discussing 5th defender for our Jan WC? We need our collective heads checked! 🙂

Mate, we aren't robots we don't HAVE to only field players when they're at home. In fact, a lot of teams tighten up on the road, especially when fighting to avoid relegation in the second half of the season.

Granted, Hull do have some tough home fixtures but, you failed to mention away games to SUN, CAR, WHM, STK, FUL & AVL that I'd be thrilled to have my 5th defender step up & play in if need be.

In the end, Hull are a better defensive side & Chester is cheaper than B. Turner. What else can I say?

Actually nothing. If this didn't sway you then I'm out! 🙂

I am keeping him until Aguero returns. Then its a direct swap. That is ,if Rooney is fit enough to play.

He's on borrowed time but with a good chance of a rest and a home game to come I won't be getting rid unless he's definitely declared out for next gameweek.

        This.

The 10 day rest will do him well... United can ill afford to lose this upcoming game.

I have been thinking different possible transfers with those two. Considering Eriksen/ Lallana in for Ravel and ditching Rooney for JRod/Soldado!

If you don't own Hazard (like me), is he worth the extra 1.6m over Oscar?

It's up to you to decide whether being more nailed on and on pens is worth 1.6m more. Imo Oscar will usually match Hazard without being as explosive but that could change (as seen vs S'oton)

Oscar comes with a huge risk of rotation. Hazard is absolutely nailed on.

prob not but sometimes you have to pay for the extra points. from now to gw 38 Hazard might only outscore Oscar by 10 but that 10 could make a difference.
