United’s fringe player Fabio needed fewer than five minutes to make his mark during Sunday afternoon’s FA Cup loss to Swansea. Replacing the injured Rio Ferdinand on 76 minutes, as Chris Smalling moved to centre-half, the Brazilian received his marching orders for a reckless lunge on Swansea’s Jose Cañas in the 80th minute of the 2-1 defeat:

Fabio – who has played just once in the league all season for David Moyes – now finds himself sidelined for three matches. He will therefore miss this evening’s Capital One Cup Semi-Final first leg against Sunderland in addition to the upcoming league clashes against Swansea and Chelsea.

City’s Dedryck Boyata will miss Wednesday’s Capital One Cup clash against West Ham after being dismissed in the weekend FA Cup draw at Blackburn. Handed a rare chance to impress by Manuel Pellegrini at Ewood Park, his eagerness got the better of him as two yellows brought his afternoon to an early close and his one-game ban means Pablo Zabaleta is likely to be fielded at right-back against the Hammers. The Argentine’s owners would have been hopeful of a rest but, with Micah Richards still injured, Zabaleta looks the obvious option.

Elsewhere, Southampton’s Pablo Osvaldo serves the second of a three-match ban for violent behaviour this weekend. The Italian international has already missed the cup win over Burnley but will also be sidelined for league games against West Brom and Sunderland. With Rickie Lambert forced off early due to a leg problem, Jay Rodriguez looks in pole position to be fielded as the lone striker against the Baggies at St Mary’s.

Newcastle’s Mathieu Debuchy will serve the second game of a three-match ban this weekend as the Magpies entertain City at St James’ Park, whilst West Ham skipper Kevin Nolan’s league prospects have been somewhat helped by his side’s cup ties. Nolan is currently banned for four games but, having sat out the weekend FA Cup loss at Forest, he will also miss tomorrow’s Capital One Cup clash with City, meaning he will skip just two league encounters (car, NEW) before returning for the Gameweek 23 trip to Chelsea.

The weekend cup ties ensured the Suspension Tightrope was kept busy, with 18 players having now received more than five yellow cards. Swansea’s Chico Flores, Chelsea’s Ramires and Villa duo Ashley Westwood and Ciaran Clark all picked up their sixth cautions of the campaign, though the latter two have some way to go to match their team-mate Fabian Delph. The midfielder is now the outright Tightrope leader on eight yellows – two more bookings before the second Sunday of April (Gameweek 34) and he’ll be looking at a suspension.

    so I have:

    - Walcott definitely out
    - Cabaye major doubt
    - Rooney and Murner as another doubts

    for the upcoming GW

    If I WC now, I could get sth like this:

    Marshall - Mannone
    Terry - Koscielny - Clyne - Ward - Chester
    Ozil - Silva - Oscar - Eriksen - Whittingham
    Suarez - Lukaku - JRod

    with some money kept in the bank which would allow me do drop Eriksen & Lukaku to Aguero & around 6M midfielder, when Kun is back.

    Push the button or hold it ?

      While I think turning down Ozil so he could go to another PL team was a blunder I can appreciate that they don't need a new CAM. Roo plays there, if not him then Kagawa, sometimes Welbz. The problems in the Squad are much more centred in the CM area and the defence although I would not be against signing a winger too.

    hmmm, some people see Rooney's absence for tonight as a good sign for the weekend. Why ?
    If he was on the bench, then I'd consider it as a good prognosis for the weekend, but if he is completely out of the team, I am not so sure about his feature vs Swansea

    Rooney JRod Suarez

    Determined not to use my wildcard so whats the best option to replace Wally with Rooney, Cabaye and Sterling doubts.Cant afford Ozil. Should I downgrade Cabaye, G Johnson or Rooney so I can?

    A) Wally --> Oscar/Cazorla
    B) Wally + G Johnson --> Ozil + any def under 5.2
    C) Wally + Cabaye --> Ozil + 6.5 mid
    D) Wally + Rooney --> Ozil + Ade/Giroud

    I get a bit tired of this United injury lark. The truth is they rely on two players too much and have a very inflexible squad...Look at Arsenal, how many players can ( and do ) play in multiple positions when needed. Ramsey, Wilshire, Pod, Ozil, Santi, Wally....and more...No excuses from United, it's just bad management.

    Help needed. Squad looks like this with 1 FT and .1 itb

    Mignolet (Stead)

    Coleman, Koscielny, Celustka (Burner, Ward)

    Silva, Hazard, Walcott, Sterling (JWP)

    Suarez, Lukaku, Rooney

    I have to get Walcott out, but without Arsenal attack I feel like Ozil is essential. I think I've got a strong enough team to hold out on the wildcard but if I wanted to get Ozil in I would have to take a hit and downgrade elsewhere to free up .4 in cash so I could do Walcott-Ozil. What would you do?

    A. _________ to __________ and Walcott to Ozil (-4)

    B. Walcott to Cazorla for free

    C. Walcott to Oscar for free

    D. Walcott to Lallana for free

    E. Walcott to _________ for free

        United have 2 cracks at the team bottom of the league. Probably suggests they will win over 2 legs.

        United play Swansea in the Prem. 4th place is absolutely EVERYTHING to them. Another home defeat is unthinkable.

        If Rooney - arguably their best player - is required for one of these games I expect it to be the latter.

    Thank you to those who rated my WC earlier, I've taken some advice on board and made a few changes:
    .......................Boruc
    .... .Dawson ● Clyne ● Azpilicueta
    ...Ki ● Gerrard ● Hazard ● Eriksen
    Bony ● Rodriguez (VC) ● Suarez (C)

    (Mannone ■ Noone ■ Brown ■ Chester)

    12m (!) in the bank for:
    Bony -> Aguero
    J.Rod -> RvP

    Eriksen may eventually become Ramsey so I get some Ars cover. I'm not expecting Boruc to play but he should be back soon.

    Any better?

      I can't understand why you would hold so much in the bank for RVP!!!

      Aguero likely back next week so can understand that... but RVP has been out for a long time with lots of niggles. Hugely expensive (still more than Suarez!) and playing in the worst United team for ages.

      RVP might not come good for a few weeks and that money is burning a big hole.

        I may have it all wrong but I thought he was expected back fairly soon? Definitely wouldn't bring him in before he's ready though, and in the meantime Bony & JRod could work out quite well.

        But all that money could be reinvested in midfield...it is a risk I'll grant you. Hmmm

          Use the money in midfield... then when RVPs back move it about. As long as you have 2 FTs in that week, it won't cost you anything..

          Focking sheet, it's all this, I know it too and it gets on my nerves: it forces me to stay up really late tonight to observe if I have still one day to wait for Cabaye news, because I have to make another transfer to afford Walcott-Özil, and this being already the case I really don't want to lose another 0.2 in team value for these already unwanted transfers.

          It's a stupid point. People here are panic-using their wildcard 10 days before the match because extremely unreliable Moyes has said Rooney is uncertain. What we have been pointing out that he most likely is not all that uncertain for the league match, Moyes is suggestive at best and lying at worst. Be my guest, use your wildcard, I don't mind. Just giving a tip that you could do better not panicing at the first hint of a possible injury to a player or two.

    He's never (maybe once?) played Zaha. It's a worthless bench spot. If Rooney was anywhere near being fit for Saturday, he would at least be on the bench for a 30 minute or less run out in case we needed it (which we probably will). The fact that this is the first leg SUPPORTS this point rather than detracts from it IMO..if he's not fit today, nothing will change in 3-4 days..a groin pull is a groin pull and they take forever to recover from.

    I'm still mulling it over, but I may just WC today and ship him off..or at least take a -4 to do so..I doubt he plays this weekend with Chelsea and the 2nd leg coming up after that..
