United’s fringe player Fabio needed fewer than five minutes to make his mark during Sunday afternoon’s FA Cup loss to Swansea. Replacing the injured Rio Ferdinand on 76 minutes, as Chris Smalling moved to centre-half, the Brazilian received his marching orders for a reckless lunge on Swansea’s Jose Cañas in the 80th minute of the 2-1 defeat:

Fabio – who has played just once in the league all season for David Moyes – now finds himself sidelined for three matches. He will therefore miss this evening’s Capital One Cup Semi-Final first leg against Sunderland in addition to the upcoming league clashes against Swansea and Chelsea.

City’s Dedryck Boyata will miss Wednesday’s Capital One Cup clash against West Ham after being dismissed in the weekend FA Cup draw at Blackburn. Handed a rare chance to impress by Manuel Pellegrini at Ewood Park, his eagerness got the better of him as two yellows brought his afternoon to an early close and his one-game ban means Pablo Zabaleta is likely to be fielded at right-back against the Hammers. The Argentine’s owners would have been hopeful of a rest but, with Micah Richards still injured, Zabaleta looks the obvious option.

Elsewhere, Southampton’s Pablo Osvaldo serves the second of a three-match ban for violent behaviour this weekend. The Italian international has already missed the cup win over Burnley but will also be sidelined for league games against West Brom and Sunderland. With Rickie Lambert forced off early due to a leg problem, Jay Rodriguez looks in pole position to be fielded as the lone striker against the Baggies at St Mary’s.

Newcastle’s Mathieu Debuchy will serve the second game of a three-match ban this weekend as the Magpies entertain City at St James’ Park, whilst West Ham skipper Kevin Nolan’s league prospects have been somewhat helped by his side’s cup ties. Nolan is currently banned for four games but, having sat out the weekend FA Cup loss at Forest, he will also miss tomorrow’s Capital One Cup clash with City, meaning he will skip just two league encounters (car, NEW) before returning for the Gameweek 23 trip to Chelsea.

The weekend cup ties ensured the Suspension Tightrope was kept busy, with 18 players having now received more than five yellow cards. Swansea’s Chico Flores, Chelsea’s Ramires and Villa duo Ashley Westwood and Ciaran Clark all picked up their sixth cautions of the campaign, though the latter two have some way to go to match their team-mate Fabian Delph. The midfielder is now the outright Tightrope leader on eight yellows – two more bookings before the second Sunday of April (Gameweek 34) and he’ll be looking at a suspension.

    ok, I have:
    - Walcott definitely out
    - Cabaye major doubt
    - Rooney and Murner as another doubts
    for the upcoming GW.

If I WC now, I could get sth like this:

    Marshall - Mannone
    Terry - Koscielny - Clyne - Ward - Chester
    Ozil - Silva - Oscar - Eriksen - Whittingham
    Suarez - Lukaku - JRod

with some money in the bank which would allow me do drop Eriksen & Lukaku to Aguero & around 6M midfielder, when the Argentinian maestro is back.

Push the button or hold it ?

Worth a hit on this team this week? FER!!

    Mannone (Speroni)
    Chester, Kos, Ward, Coleman (Vlaar)
Wally Replacement tbc, FER, Hazard, Silva (Cabaye)
    Suarez, Lukaku (Rooney)

Not happy with Fer - but no one cheaper than him worth having for a hit (to upgrade Wally > Ozil).

Cazorla is your best bet if you don´t want to take the hit. You then have the WC to sort your team if the transfer fails, otherwise I don´t see many cheap mids worth getting for the next 3...

Hazard more consistent and on penalties when Lampard is not playing. But yes if you have more pressing issues in other areas, it might be worth a risk to go with Oscar.

£4.5m max Defender needed with good fixtures for gameweeks 21 and 24. Current thoughts:

    A) Senderos (SUN, SOT) - Is he first choice with Hangeland out?
    B) Alcaraz (NOR, AVL*) - *Jagielka likely back by 24?
    C) Turner (WHM, NOR) - Marshall in goal so would double Cardiff def.

    Thoughts?

Boruc due back VERY soon I think..read a tweet the other day, and Wanyama due back soon and that's a big plus for them as he protects the backline..I think with those two and Clyne back they'll be much more solid going forward..

this is my team atm so if Rooney is fit then I will likely save my WC unless price changes are looking to force my hand:
              Mannone (Lewis)
Burner - Mert - Coleman (Ward - Chester)

    Should I do

Vlaar and Ridgewell should be shipped out as should Podolski imo (Giroud back Monday for sure) but you don't really have to do that this week if you don't want..

Ravel not going down so not worth a -4 unless your gut is telling you strongly that Eriksen will put up more than 4 points..

if you're going to take a hit anywhere I think it would be to get Podolski out

Thanks much. Got Podolski last week as a 2-3 week punt so I am going to play him. In fact if he plays on the left with giroud in centre then Pod can do more damage.

So basically I have to decide how much I want Eriksen.

yeah Pod isn't very good up front IMO, could do damage cutting in though..has a fierce shot

I like Eriksen a lot..was just hoping that Sherwood would play him in the hole..last two games suggest otherwise as he's lined up a flat 4-4-2 with Eriksen at LM both times..

if he plays a different formation this weekend with Eriksen advanced centrally then I would certainly look to him as he's still a differential amongst players who don't frequent sites like this and TFPL (like my ML 😉 )

well I'd say you have to decide..your team looks good but like you said someone is going out for Kun (likely Ade I'd say?) so you'd probably want to ship both one 'expensive' defender and one mid as well right?

I like it though..what's your rank? WCing is really easy if you just grab a template team..problem is if you want to move up (like I do, currently at 143k) then you have to be a little different..

I like your approach of getting in all the main sought after players now while we await the return of Kun so that you can decide in the meantime who to ship for him when the time comes..

                have you already activated?

at 143k I think I need to make some bold moves to push up towards my goal of top 20k wouldn't you think? or do you think a relatively template team (and god I'm starting to hate that phrase) will slowly but surely get the job anyways with small tinkering along the way? I'm just worried that whenever I have a good week, everyone else will too 😆

I think it's important to have the core of good players remember they are template for a reason I take risks with transferring in players early before they rise in the first half of the season to give me a big advantage with tv come the 2nd wildcard it has served me well last few seasons, sure there is the odd chance the player could pick up an injury but it's rare it happens. Captain choice is what could make or break you keep an eye on frisking the fixtures and look to ship those with bad fixtures for those with good upcoming fixtures, go with your gut on things 9 times out of 10 your gut proves to be right.

I'm strongly considering not having any Arsenal cover except for maybe Ramsey when he's back..on merit he should have a regular starting berth and I don't see Arsenal really racking up the goals in a single game unless there's goals at both ends..

I like the Eriksen pick and have wanted to do it since the game he scored that free kick (not because of it but because of his free-roaming under Sherwood despite lining up as a LM in a flat 442 and being on both corners)

                    this is my current team:
                    Mannone (Lewis)
Burner - Mert - Coleman (Ward - Chester)
Hazard - Silva - Walcott - Sterling (Ki)
                    Suarez - Rooney - Negredo

still have my 1 FT and I'm considering Walcott > Gerrard or Eriksen (probably the former) even though I have 2.5m in the bank..I just don't see Arsenal routing Villa or Ozil doing THAT much yet..

                    decisions, decisions..

The current wildcard team I suggested as far as I can see is one it keeps my head to head opponents guessing who I will play (also good for the cup if I'm still in it) and 2 it will gain a lot of value I feel in the coming weeks

I've considered your exact team for a bit now except Gerrard in for Yaya just because I don't already have Yaya and he's too expensive now IMO for what he offers with both Silva and Kun on the pitch, I've just not been sure on which will give out between the 4 at the back or the 5 in mid as I've though one of the two has to be cut down to one less 'expensive' player

Looked at your team you have a good transfer value what I would say is you have taken a fair few hits cut back on the hits for the 2nd half of the season now and you should easily climb the rankings, be wary of Sterling as well Sturridge back very soon

Sterling out as soon as I WC..Ki too..probably replace with Mutch if I decide to cut to 4 big mids instead of cutting to 3 big defenders..

and yeah I was WAY too hit crazy early on (never played the game in this much depth..started GW7 as you can see from my rank progression starting then; always used to forget, let my 2nd FT dissolve, etc.)

you confident in Ade? I like him a lot and think he's great value after the way Sherwood praised him..just worried that sometimes he decides he doesn't care anymore..

Sitting at just under 30k and with TV 112.5M, the January WC wasn't necessarily pressing, but with Distin, Walcott, Rooney and Johnson in the squad, it's probably turned out for the best:-

    GK Mannone - Marshall

Seems a popular combination, and they appear to fit seamlessly. The only argument against would be for a 'top eight' keeper, but they seem to offer no clean sheet guarantees this season.

DF Coleman - Sagna - Bardsley - Burner - Ward

Coleman and Sagna will be the cornerstone of the defence until the middle of March, the other three could potentially fill two spots through to the middle of March (apart from GW26/27), but injuries aside, will only have one spot to fill.

MF Hazard - YaYa - Ozil - Gerrard - Eriksen

The midfield is much of a lottery at the moment. YaYa will possibly change to Silva soon after Aguero's return. Hazard ought to be more productive than Oscar. Cazorla may outshine Ozil, but it is easy enough to downgrade. Gerrard, although seemingly playing deeper, is on penalties and some set pieces, which is a big draw with S&S playing up front. Plus Liverpool are free from Europe. Eriksen is showing good current form under Sherwood, and is better guaranteed a start than the likes of Sterling and Barkley. Lallana is currently in my wc squad, but is edged out by Gerrard and Eriksen.

    FW Suarez - Rodriguez - Aguero (Lukaku/Adebeyor/Negredo/Rooney/Giroud)

Aguero is the final piece of the jigsaw, and then all the money will be spent. The question is who to fill in for a week or two? I'm leaning towards Lukaku or Adebeyor. Erikesen's inclusion in midfield makes Lukaku the likely candidate.

The attacking eight offer 30 home games and 26 away games up to the beginning of March, by which time Champions League will have started to take effect, and all manner of team selections will be taking place. Chelsea, Arsenal and Man City will have the difficult balancing act to contend with. Man U will have to put all their eggs into the Champions League basket, although will obviously be having to keep a very close eye on fourth place in the PL.

Many will argue that benching one of the front eight could cause problems, but having already experienced a GW with Silva and Rooney confined to the bench, I just see it as insurance against the unexpected.

No transfers should hopefully be needed for GW22, unless Aguero is deemed ready, which will mean two free transfers for the last week in January, or three with a hit should this squad encounter injuries from the cup competitions.

    Mannone - Marshall

    Coleman - Sagna - Bardsley - Burner - Ward

    Hazard - YaYa - Ozil - Gerrard - Eriksen

    Suarez - Rodriguez - Aguero

Rooney can't score from the bench and not against Chelsea 🙂
DGW? You have to get that players out unless you have second WC?

When there is a DGW there is also a blank.

If the blank is first i will ditch, if the DGW is first i will keep

I'll count Aguero's goals and then Rooney's and when Rooney hasn't scored as many as Aguero i will know I have the right player. For the DGW I will already have a couple of players probably so will get two more...any other questions ?
