Jack Wilshere picks up the Fantasy points with a goal and assist in Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Villa. Mesut Ozil’s away woes continue as Olivier Giroud returns from illness to notch, whilst Christian Benteke finally rediscovers his eye for goal as the hosts lose at home for the seventh time this term.

Wilshere the Midfield Hero for Gunners
Whilst the fallout of Theo Walcott’s season-ending injury persuaded over 88,000 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers to acquire Mesut Ozil last week, Wilshere remained relatively under the radar, with just 13,000 snapping up his services. The summer signing was left overshadowed, however, after returning a sixth blank in nine away appearances at Villa Park – Wilshere, on the other hand, racked up a goal and assist in the 2-1 triumph as Arsene Wenger’s side returned to the top of the table.

Despite being deployed in a deep-lying role against Paul Lambert’s side, Wilshere’s display looks likely to earn him a role in managers’ wildcard thoughts, as he continues the form that harvested an assist against Cardiff in the previous Gameweek. At 6.1, the versatile Wilshere has now started seven of the last eight league games he has been available for and, with Ozil’s poor continuing (one assist in his last four appearances), some may even be having second thoughts over the German’s long-term role in their Fantasy squads as Aaron Ramsey closes in on a comeback. Nonetheless, two strong home games in the next three (FUL, sou, CPL) look prosperous for Ozil, bearing in mind he has produced double figures in four of his seven home games thus far.

Gnabry on the Right Again
Elsewhere in the Gunners midfield, Serge Gnabry’s second successive start in all competitions caught the eye of Fantasy managers. Priced at just 4.2 in FPL, the youngster continued as Theo Walcott’s replacement on the right, getting the nod ahead of both Tomas Rosicky and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Given the above-mentioned couple of home games, he may well prove a worthy punt – Arsene Wenger certainly had no qualms about throwing him into the north London derby last weekend and clearly has faith in the teenager. The issue, of course, is he’s far from certain to keep that regular role – Mikel Arteta missed out with a calf complaint last night and it’s arguable that Wenger would have fielded Wilshere on the right if the Spaniard had been available.

Post-match reports suggest Rosicky requires nose x-rays after picking up a knock – the Czech midfielder’s possible absence would certainly lessen the competition for Gnabry. Also on the injury front, Nacho Monreal may have suffered a broken metatarsal according to his manager.

Giroud Finding his Form
Having missed the last two in all competitions with an ankle problem and illness, the Frenchman returned revitalised for the visitors last night. Giroud’s first-half strike, following on from his Gameweek 19 winner at Newcastle, means he has now scored in back-to-back league starts for the first time since mid-September – indeed, with an assist also accrued over the previous three, he is starting to hint at a return to the consistency that was symbolic of his first few league appearances this season. There’s no doubt Giroud is a frustrating Fantasy asset but last night’s display took him to fourth in the FPL forward standings and, with a security of starts under Wenger, a drop in price from 9.6 to 8.5 may entice more wildcarders over the next few days ahead of the Fulham showdown.

Benteke Ends Scoring Drought
At last, the long goalless run is over for the Villa forward. A diving header in the second period wasn’t quite enough for the home side but Benteke will be nonetheless delighted as he finally notched a league goal for the first time since September. Clearly, the Belgian rises to the challenge when faced with the Arsenal defence – he’d previously bagged a brace at the Emirates in Gameweek 1 and his owners will be hoping for more of the same as he travels to Anfield next. Benteke scored twice in the corresponding fixture against Liverpool last season and, with the Reds mustering a mere three clean sheets in the last 18, the Villa forward will be buoyed on the back of last night’s morale-boost.

Lallana a better shout that Eriksen IMO

If you get rid of Gerrard, then bring Studge for Giroud then you maintain a good Pool cover.
It depends if you prefer Giroud or Studge 🙂
You need Arsenal defence cover indeed, get Kosc or even Gibbs (slightly cheaper).
I reckon Ramsey will be fit this weekend, I am not sure if he will start though

Just to clarify. Man City play Man United in gameweek 28 when the League Cup final takes place. A reschedule within that gameweek is unlikely so barring a miracle regarding West Ham in the second leg of the league cup semi final then ManC and ManU will blank Gameweek 28 and have a dgwk later in the year.

If Sunderland are in the final then their game against West Brom will also be a blank.

If you own four ManC, ManU players you could be in trouble. If you own four or more Sunderland, West Brom, ManC and Man U players then gwk 28 is not going to be a good week for you and you should hope ManU beat Sunderland.

With SAS or GAS in attack and a midfield of Silva, Hazard, Lallana + £10.8 combo.

Would a defence of Baines, Coleman, Sagna, Gibbs (& Chester) be crazy?

Play 4-3-3 if both pairings play home and then drop one from the pairing in a tricky fixture and play 3-4-3 with most suitable of the cheap midfield combo coming in.

Away at Liverpool I'd probably go just Baines but then I suppose Coleman on the bench is a waste. Maybe I'll take out Gibbs or Sagna and play 3-4-3 regularly instead. Just exploring alternative options.

I know these questions always follow a big score, but anyone considering going for a Wiltshere punt (at least until Ramsey is returning points?). He's been making all the right noises about wanting to get forward and score/assist more, and 1 goal 2 assists in three games is a very decent return.

Could just be a blip, but then that's what we all said about Rambo

Benching the highest scoring midfielder with the best form playing for one of the best teams in the league? At home? To Man United who arent exactly rock solid at the back. Its a no for me. Double Spurs mid is very, very ballsy even with a home fixture. Away to Swansea, its not recommendable.

I'm thinking about SAS as I know many others on here are. but question for you all: would owning two liverpool strikers mean that you would be less likely to captain suarez because you'd be afraid of putting too many eggs in one basket?

also say liverpool has a good fixture, would you always captain suarez or would you ever consider captaining sturridge instead?

so you'l captain Suarez every week even though you'd already be doubled up on pool and even if Augero had a good fixture?

If everyone is captaining Suarez then you have little choice. Picking a bad captain just makes your doubling up even more silly imo.

yeah, quite a few are. was even a hot topic on it

why doesn't it appeal to you?
who would you prefer as your 3rd striker then?

Both the strikers from one team really doesn't sit well with me…. especially when neither of them even has spot kicks!! Just too much risk in 1 team. Plus i think there are plenty of other good options for a 3rd striker. Giroud, Lukaku, and maybe even the likes of Bony in the 2nd half of the season will blossom

Many of us have jumped onto the Sturridge bandwagon (myself included).

Am thinking now that Sturridge might be eased back in, given his injury record. Sterling's also been playing so enough to retain his starting position.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Sturridge named on the bench against Villa.

      it's possible

I've got sterling at the moment and am unsure if I should keep him or not....

could it be that sterling keeps his spot though an pool switch to a 4231 of sorts with coutinho and sterling out wide and suarez centrally behind sturridge?

Could do I guess. That would annoy me. Still, Suarez should soften them up nicely for another fruitful cameo.

He wasn't eased in at the start of the season (the opposite) so it depends if Rodgers thinks that's linked to his last injury.

    Comments on my WC:

    Boruc, Davis
    Baines, Sagna, Cole, Kolorov, Chester
    Hazard, Silva, Wilshere, Januzaj, Gnabry
    Aguero, Suarez, Rodriguez

Enough in the bank to transfer Wilshere > Ramsey next week.

What do you suggest? Getting rid of Cole/Kolorov for Gabbidon/Ward?? The problem is that wouldn't free up enough cash to do anything substantial with my midfield/frontline...

That seems like my only option. Team value @ 105 is a bit low to have 3 big hitting midfielders or strikers and I'm determined to have Baines involved

    gw22 wc team

    Boruc
    Baines, A. Cole, Mert, Kolorov
    Hazard, Silva, Wilshere
    Suarez (c), Aguero, Sturridge

    Mannone, Cabaye, Chester, Pozuelo

Obviously keeping tabs on Ramsey to bring in after he's played a couple of games & shows form.
Aguero seems confident of playing but if he doesn't then Negredo/Giroud/Welbeck will come in.

    Opinions & thanks.

Maybe a bit below average. Doesn't make that much difference though. A clean sheet here or there if you have to have a cheapie defender instead of a big-hitter.

Can even be a positive in that it helps you to see the bargains that people with giant purses overlook.

As they say, when life hands you lemons, reach for the tequila and salt.

It is a bit over-optimistic but I know from my experiences with high TV, I tend to use price as a guide to points. I know it's wrong but I can't help myself.

He'll probably be on the bench for our game tomorrow and then it's just gonna be a matter of waiting for team news updates in the days leading up to the weekend. Unless it seems certain he will start on Saturday i won't be getting him (would likely cost me 4 points as well)
