We’ve one match remaining of the Gameweek, as Pepe Mel takes charge of West Brom for the first time this evening. The new Baggies boss doesn’t have it easy, though – visitors Everton have been beaten just once on the road in 10 matches, less than any other side in the top-flight, and will be looking for their tenth clean sheet of the season at the Hawthorns:

Certainly, from the home side, Fantasy attention is somewhat limited – Nicolas Anelka is West Brom’s most popular FPL player, with 2.7% ownership. The Toffees, however, are heavily backed – Seamus Coleman and Leighton Baines owners will be looking for points at both ends of the pitch, whilst Romelu Lukaku will be looking to get one over his former side and score on the road for the first time since Gameweek 9.

The team sheets are in and the home side make four alterations from the XI that were beaten at Southampton last time around. Gareth McAuley is out with a hamstring problem and is replaced by Diego Lugano at centre-half, whilst further up the field, Claudio Yacob, Zoltan Gera and Matej Vydra come in for Youssouf Mulumbu, Morgan Amalfitano and the now-departed Shane Long.

Roberto Martinez makes a couple of alterations for the Toffees. Sylvain Distin has recovered from a hamstring injury and returns to the back-four at the expense of John Stones, whilst Bryan Oviedo is selected ahead of Steven Pienaar on the left of the front three. New signing Aiden McGeady earns a place on the bench as Everton look for the win that would take them into fourth spot.

As always, we have opened up the Dugout Discussion chatroom until this evening’s final whistle.

Chester when healthy is the only nailed on for 4.0 or less. Parr and Chambers are other options, but are definitely not nailed on.

Cahill gives you way more bang for your buck than Aspi or even Ivan, but I've heard some say that Matic's signing will mean Luiz competing for a centre-back spot. I can't believe Morinho has not seen Luiz play at centre back, he is a liability there. Any thoughts?

Yeah, same. Had him in GW1 hoping he'd be the real deal at Chelsea. And haven't really got his points this season despite having him for ages.

Really like him as a player, but tempted to get rid this week or on the WC. Bound to bite me, but he just isn't scoring. Awesome player on his day in my opinion.

This is not a good strike force you have there mate. You need at least one of Kun/Suarez. RVP is not the right choice. You have good differentials in Ade and Benteke. Get Kun for Giroud as your main striker before he gets too expensive. Take this advice if you want to improve your rank this season.

I can't. Me and 4 other friends play in a league, where only 1 person is allowed 1 player. As you'd expect kun, suarez, sturridge, negredo are all taken, therefore I want RVP

That changes a lot. RVP could be good pick if you are not allowed Rooney (cheaper).
I would keep Ade for now. Take Giroud out only if you are allowed another good Arsenal player Ozil/Ramsey/Cazorla then as you need some Arsenal cover.
Benteke can be taken out as there are no other good Villa assets your rivals may have.
I'm not able to give you more advice without knowing your rivals' teams.
BTW: what happens if two of you transfer the same player in the same week?

Any United fans online? Demi? Parm? etc

Was thinking about this today, what do you think is behind the current malaise? Personally I think it's a case of collective responsibilty

For the most part the Glazers haven't provided the funds (though clearly they will spend when needed as the likes of Berba, Kagawa and RvP prove)

Fergie has to shoulder some of the blame as bar Fellaini this is his squad and he's clearly left it deficient in certian areas (left-back, midfield)

Moyes' tactics are too predictable, endless useless crosses and sideways passes. He commented on our lack of chances from set-pieces. That wasn't due to a lack of them, but an inability to clear the first man, or over-hitting them

Lastly the players. There's some serious dereliction of duty going on, Jones was badly positioned for the first goal, yesterday, Rafa, Evra and Valencia were all at sea for the 2nd, and what was Evans doing on the 3rd. Mourinho identified our prime weakness, an inabilty to defend counter-attacks (as we stand off too much) or set-pieces (too many individual errors)

Clearly we're suffering without both RvP and Rooney (would love to see how Liverpool would cope if both Suarez and Sturridge were out) but others should have stepped up, But bar Welbeck and Januzaj they just haven't. Is this because they don't care, or because they are just unable to?

Rio is no longer the player he was, he was excellent last season, but I think Evans is ahead of him now. Carrick hasn't been great and obviously RvP has been a big loss

RvP and Rooney have played 23 times together

        W17, D6 L0

Yeah. I don't think Carrick has been bad though, he just seems to be the only midfield players capable of creating, and that's not his style.

Just add a midfielder, replace Evra and get players back and they would be top 4 for sure.

Surely the single largest part of the problem lies with the injuries to Rooney and van Persie.

All of the blame rests on Anderson's portly physique. How can the lads play when he's scoffed all their brekkies and left little poos in their kitbags?

Liverpool comparison doesn't work imo, as United have welbeck and hernandez, liverpool have no one. Apas or Moses and they're not strikers and have no experience in the side.

I think Moyes shouldn't have sent Powell out on loan and should play zaha. And not bought Fellaini, he's made mistakes that are no one else's fault but his own.

I never blame players, if people think young is rubbish, use him as a squad player, every player there has qualities that ought to be used effectively. No point crossing balls into the box with no one committed to be there.

I don't think ferguson cared about the midfield because wingplay is ingrained in united's play and he knew he wasn't building for a future, he left it to rot.

Aspas was a forward though and they could recall Borini no?

Panic buying of Fellaini I agree but not just Moyes involved in transfers.

Some players are downright lazy/disinterested thoughthough so I think blame can be attributed at times.

Fergie left a squad that really got by on the misfortune of other teams and his own management ability. We shouldn't forget that City still thumped that United side under Fergie too, showing perhaps that there was perhaps somewhat of a gulf in quality.

Yeah he used rvp to cover over the shambolic defending and hole in midfield. People forget there were many times when teams ran riot at old trafford, except rvp cancelled out all their goals with more goals. No defeats meant no crisis.

I still don't think you can blame players, ever, if they're 'lazy' it just means they're being badly coached, or unhappy, ultimately the manager has to get the best out of them, the player obviously wants to do well. I just think of it like a teacher/tutor and a pupil. If they're doing it wrong it could mean they're poor or that you're a bad teacher..It's just like; replace the team, that isn't a solution. To me it's just lazy criticism. There's some truth to some players not being 'united players', but picking all the stars made in other teams seems wrong. We tried it with Kagawa and just waste him. Now he's 'not up to the premier league and can't cut it'. Like, no...

People overlook that is what managers are meant to do...Mourinho goes somewhere and trains them to be winners, ferguson did it for years, a lot of these united players felt entitled to win games and the league, they were deluded in that way. The fall has been shocking. Players looks confused and clueless, the only guy who doesn't is the one who hasn't even tasted any of that success.

I don't think the players are as bad as people are making out. It's not a league winning squad, obviously, and does need a overhaul, but i think there's ways to cope with what is there now and do better with it.

So true about the endless crosses thing, it's like Moyes is playing FIFA 12 where crosses didn't work. Valencia doesn't find anyone with them or set pieces don't beat the first man.

Quite often this season I've seen Evra Rio Jonny Evans all criticised.

But for me Vidic has been terrible all year but it seems to go unsaid.

He was all over the place at Stamford Bridge like he has been for much of the season.

Whew! Glad I didn't make a transfer yesterday for a midfielder. I'm now down to 3 fit defenders and as Azpi is one of them there's no guarantee Jose won;t decide to bench him.

    Chester > up to 5.0

Evans look good? I prefer Debuchy but not his fixtures. Like Vlaar also as had good luck with him pre-Xmas when he was fit
