Taken that Negredo is second choice, Jovetic's real competition I see is with Dzeko. When you compare the two, Jovetic is a better overall team player particularly in the final third of the pitch, he has played less games but has a higher distribution rate of 80.6% to Dzeko's 75.1%, minutes per chance created at 73.5 to Dzeko's 91.1 and shot accuracy of 42.9 to 36.4. To top it off Jovetic's goal conversion works out 14.3, shading Dzeko's 12.7.
I see Jovetic as a legible punt either as a replacement for Aguero and/or Nasri should Pellegrini wish to deploy him, particularly with the Champions League and cup games coming thick and fast.
