I was thinking that the amount of saves Mannone is making means there are defensive frailties in the Sunderland defence compared to SouthamptonOpen Controls-
The amount of saves Mannone makes is a product of the defense lying deep, playing solid defense and forcing savable shots from outside the box.

absolutely this. mannone is hoovering up save points because sunderland are limiting opposition to long shots. so it might look like they were under the cosh, like today with 9 mannone saves, but really they weren't at all. i'd say mannone made 1 or maybe 2 good saves today.

I agree with these comments, and ai don't think it's Moyes as the disaster but rather Moyes plus this squad. There is no sense of a cohesive vision for what to do on the pitch, from the manager's in game tactics to the players sense of a shape or spacing. There seemed to be scores of times when they were stepping over each other, be it in transition, inside the box, or even on who to take a throw in.
