With this eveningโ€™s encounter at the Etihad set to draw a line under the Gameweek, we look at the lessons learned over the weekendโ€™s nine fixtures:

Kevin Mirallas has a free-kick in his ever-improving lockerโ€ฆ.
With Leighton Baines standing by, the Belgian strode forward and struck a stunning winner from dead-ball distance. Itโ€™s three goals in four now for Mirallas, who has flourished since being shifted to a central position โ€“ first as a replacement for Ross Barkley in โ€œthe holeโ€ and now as the lone forward, with Romelu Lukaku and Lacina Traore stuck in the Toffees treatment room. With free-kicks around the box added to his repertoire, he has the form to benefit from a schedule including Palace, West Ham, Cardiff and Swansea in their next four home games.

Ben Arfa for Cabaye is not a like for likeโ€ฆ
Dispossessed and punished for Sunderlandโ€™s killer third goal, Ben Arfaโ€™s ability to drop into midfield and offer defensive cover is not in the same bracket as his compatriot โ€“ neither is his ability as an assured ball carrier. Heโ€™s also anything but a leader on the pitch. Newcastle were devoid of ideas and toothless without Yohan Cabaye and Loic Remy and Ben Arfa remains a puzzle for Pardew to solve. The Newcastle boss is talking of reverting โ€œback to basicsโ€ in order to cope with Cabayeโ€™s loss to PSG โ€“ does Ben Arfa fit that approach?

Never mind Johnson, Mannone is Poyetโ€™s other miracleโ€ฆ
Adam Johnsonโ€™s form has stirred the headline makers but Vito Mannone returned his fifth double figure return of the season in Saturdayโ€™s win at Newcastle. The former Arsenal stopper has now earned seven clean sheets in 14 starts under Gus Poyet โ€“ crucially, that includes 17 points gathered from 67 saves in total. With trips to City, Arsenal and Liverpool in the next five, Johnsonโ€™s may struggle to replicate his recent goalscoring heroics but Mannone, certainly, looks likely to be kept a busy man between the posts โ€“ shut-outs could be hard to come by but save points seem guaranteed.

West Hamโ€™s season could depend on the FA verdictโ€ฆ
Andy Carroll needed less than an hour to show just what he brings to the Hammers attack before an altercation with Chico Flores saw him sent packing. Providing an assist for both Kevin Nolanโ€™s strikes against the Swans, he looks integral to his sideโ€™s survival prospects, with his contribution in both boxes forging confidence in the team from back to front. Sam Allardyce has already slapped in an appeal but if Carroll is forced to sit out the next three, West Hamโ€™s fortunes, and Nolanโ€™s Fantasy prospects, are set for a turn for the worse.

19th century football is good for Fantasy defencesโ€ฆ
Having โ€œout-tactickedโ€ Jose Mourinho in the midweek stalemate at the Bridge, Big Sam steered his side to their eleventh clean sheet of the season against Swansea. While The Special One may have bemoaned the Hammers approach, the visitors resilience brought forth some timely alternatives for our defences. With club captain Winston Reid cementing his comeback from injury with an appearance off the bench, Big Sam may well be looking to grind out a few more shut-outs should Carrollโ€™s suspension remain intact โ€“ Reid, at 4.7, and 4.3-pirced stopper Adrian offer escape routes for those looking to offload Sunderlandโ€™s assets, with the next six Gameweeks (avl, NOR, SOT, eve, HUL, sot) smiling kindly on the Hammers.

Whittinghamโ€™s start is under threat and the fans donโ€™t mindโ€ฆ
Subbed off much to the approval of a section of the Cardiff crowd, Whittinghamโ€™s game time looks in question from this point onwards. Withdrawn just 38 minutes into the Norwich match, he watched on as replacement Wilfried Zaha helped turn the game around and earn Ole Gunnar Solskjaer his first league points since taking the helm. With a handful of kind fixtures up next, the new manager will surely turn to the on loan wide man to provide the attacking impetus that can fire his side to safety.

The Saints go marching onโ€ฆ
Quite simply, Southamptonโ€™s form looks too good to ignore. Adam Lallanaโ€™s strike at Fulham took his recent average to eight points per game in the last four league appearances, with a goal or assist in six of the previous eight. At 6.5, Jay Rodriguez remains the best value forward in the FPL game โ€“ producing attacking returns in 10 of the last 18 after a barren first six Gameweeks. Rickie Lambert also rose up the rankings with a 15-point haul, whilst a clean sheet at the Cottage brings their defence back into focus. One look at the fixtures shows why. Over the next six Gameweeks, the Saints face five of the sides currently residing in the bottom half of the table โ€“ investment in Mauricio Pochettinoโ€™s main men looks vital.

Rooneyโ€™s appeal may be diminishingโ€ฆ
Since returning from injury, Robin Van Persie has been quick to rediscover his goal touch for United. The Dutchman struck in back-to-back games, whilst Juan Mata has provided the expected creativity, with an assist in each of his appearances for the Old Trafford outfit. Wayne Rooney, on the other hand, remains subdued. Previously a popular option alongside Luis Suarez and Sergio Aguero for those rolling out a โ€œPower Threeโ€ frontline earlier in the season, Rooney has been utilised in a more withdrawn role in both appearances since his injury return and, with Van Persie and Mata providing immediate returns, he could be the odd man out for those eyeing up Unitedโ€™s assets over the next few matches.

Good read, 7Shades -- I like the directness of this article.

This much we don't know: is Suarez pulling an RVP 2013? I remember how sacred he was in this game around this time last year, but I'd argue that he was nowhere near as essential in the last four months of the season. And Suarez had a pace that was even more unsustainable in the first part of this season.

I'm in at 10.9 so I would be saying goodbye to him for a long time, but if the forward spots are under as much scrutiny as the Hot Topcs would suggest, I see no reason not to at least look at Suarez as well, especially as a Sturridge owner.

What I will say is over the last five weeks, Suarez has been the best point scoring striker. So he is on form at the moment.

If Suarez starts blanking I will drop him but the form he is in I really don't see that happening. I reckon I can field a good team with plenty of City and Utd cover for the DGW and still keep Suarez though.

Last year RVP was out scored by someone else on my team about 60% if the time. More often than not you could say he was a captaincy fail. Suarez's current season is much more successful in that regard.

I'm definitely considering a Suarez-less future. My current frontline is Suarez RVP Dzeko but downgrading him to Sturridge frees up quite a bit of cash for elsewhere, e.g. Suarez + Barkley = Sturridge + Lallana + 0.4mil. I have more pressing transfers at the moment but will be monitoring the situation.

I am still confused about the changing shape of gameweeks 29-31, but clear that I need to find cover for united/city at the beginning, with a view to loading up on them again at the end.

I just wondered if anyone has identified any decent transfer targets to support your team through the darker gameweeks? I have snodgrass on my watchlist.

Well I've tried to create some discussion around this weeks miriad of options for all of us with no stand out injury e.g. Aguero, but it gets no response, so going to go for a simple A, B or C format
    A) Kolorov > Terry/Cahill
    B) Kolorov > Southampton defender
    C) Chester > Southampton defender
    D) Dzeko > JRod/Lallana
    E) Dzeko > Sturridge
    F) Giroud > RVP
    H) Dzeko > RVP

I am happy to have a conversation. However, I am currently thinking the better strategy is to save the FT, with a view to preparing for the forthcoming pains of GW28-31.

In terms of targets for the gameweek - city, cardiff, southampton, aston villa, west ham, chelsea and spurs all have pretty nice fixtures for the next three. The nailed on city options are standout e.g. yaya etc. but I think most people have these. I am a bit more concerned about gametime for dzeko etc.

Lallana is in a lovely bit of form and with fixtures on his side looks too good to pass up - problem I have is funds, unless I am prepared to drop one of hazard, silva or mata (which I am not ATM).

RVP look so tempting for this week, but need to prep as much as possible for 28/29 now. i.e. don't waste a transfer now on a blank player. So many people will be taking hits to just field 11, that each less transfer needed is 4 pts in the bag.

Yep, I was tempted to load up on RVP too; as it stands, I have a front three of suarez, benteke and adebayor.

I've identified snodgrass as a target for the dark period, just need to work out who else is nailed on and who my city/united targets are going to be for 31.

I think dealing with Kolorov and Chester have to be priorities, need to get rid of both by GW28/29 Dzeko/Giroud, could easily score better than RVP/Sturridge

Dzeko. That's one hit. Let's say you get Yaya or Silva without a hit next GW. That leaves you with 4 blankers come GW27, with the 2 City players possibly missing GW28 and GW29. If you have a really strong bench you might be able to get away with just one hit to put out a starting 11.

I think too many are choosing to ignore the upcoming blanks when assessing options going forward.

true, but the city attackers are virtually scoring two games worth of points in one, i would rather have them covered for now and then have a rubbish blank games week rather than not have them now and have an average blank games week, if that makes sense lol

Over the last 5 weeks Mirallas is the joint 9th best point scoring midfielder and they have hard fixtures coming up, so not sure I would even consider him for my team.

Saying that Lallana is 12th over same period and I have him. lol

In my favour though, Southampton have a nice run of fixtures.

Not really as Utd have nice fixtures until GW28, so I have plenty of time to transfer them out if needed. Saying that RVP would not have been in my team if Aguero had not got injured.

All this talk about matches getting postponed, due to FA cup ties in GW29 has got me thinking... Has there ever been a case when some games have been preponed/rearranged because other games were postponed?

Like if Chelsea, Arsenal and Sunderland all win in FA Cup 5th Round, can PL rearrange Spurs vs. Liverpool from GW30 to GW29 when they will both be facing blanks?
