This week’s Scout Picks are dominated by four teams with strong fixtures on their agendas. Sunderland, Southampton and Chelsea supply us with a couple of players apiece, whilst we opt for three of United’s assets ahead of Sunday afternoon’s home clash with struggling Fulham:

Vito Mannone welcomes Hull to the Stadium of Light this weekend. The Sunderland stopper has registered back-to-back clean sheets against Stoke and Newcastle and, with the visitors scoring just once in the last five Gameweeks, his chances of a third successive shut-out look strong.

Jose Fonte gets the nod for Southampton’s home clash with Stoke. Given that the Potters have scored once in their previous six road trips, Mauricio Pochettino’s side will be optimistic of a clean sheet and, with Dejan Lovren still sidelined, Fonte offers a greater goal threat and chance of bonus than any other available Saints defender.

We opt for Patrice Evra ahead of United’s home game against Fulham. The Cottagers have failed to score in any of their last three road trips, suggesting a clean sheet could be on the cards, whilst the left-back’s raids down the flank have already helped him claim a goal and three assists this season.

John Terry is our Chelsea defender of choice for tomorrow’s visit of under-strength Newcastle. Jose Mourinho’s side have now conceded just twice in eight Gameweeks and, with the Magpies devoid of the suspended Loic Remy up top, yet another shut-out looks on the menu. Terry’s penalty box menace and propensity for picking up bonus bodes well as he looks to chase down Seamus Coleman at the top of the Fantasy Premier League defender standings.

Three double-figure hauls in the last four Gameweeks is indicative of Adam Lallana’s current form. The Saints skipper has scored five of his seven strikes at St Mary’s and will fancy his chances of netting again, given that visitors Stoke have conceded in nine of the last 10 league fixtures.

United’s home clash with basement-dwellers Fulham brings Juan Mata into consideration. The Spaniard has made an instant impact at Old Trafford, providing an assist in each of his first two appearances and, with David Moyes’ side desperate to bounce back from last weeks’ loss at the Britannia, Mata’s creativity could wreak havoc against the Cottagers.

Eden Hazard sits third in this week’s Captain Poll ahead of Chelsea’s clash with Newcastle at the Bridge. With Fabricio Coloccini joined by Cheick Tiote on the sidelines this weekend, the Magpies backline looks there for the taking as the Belgian goes in search of a fifth set of double figures in front of his own fans.

Adam Johnson’s owners will be looking for further returns this weekend before the fixtures turn nasty for the Sunderland flier. Six goals and a pair of assists over the last four highlight his current form – visitors Hull haven’t registered a single shut-out on their travels this term, suggesting Johnson could be set to plunder the points as Gus Poyet plots to get one over former Black Cats boss Steve Bruce.

Having scored in each of his two appearances since returning from injury, Robin van Persie has shot to the top of this week’s Captain Poll ahead of United’s home game with Fulham. With Rene Meulensteen’s strugglers in free-fall after a morale-sapping FA Cup loss at the hands of Sheffield United, the Dutchman’s prospects of picking up the points look stronger than ever as he prepares to square up to a defence that have conceded more goals than any other side on the road.

Unlocking the Arsenal defence will no doubt give Luis Suarez a tough time but we cannot overlook the Liverpool forward for tomorrow’s encounter at Anfield. Brendan Rodgers’ side have scored two or more goals in all nine of the Uruguayan’s home appearances – Suarez has only failed to net in one of those fixtures and will be looking to atone for his blank at the Emirates back in Gameweek 10.

We’re keeping faith in Edin Dzeko for tomorrow’s trip to Norwich. Manuel Pellegrini confirmed earlier today the Bosnian has shrugged off an ankle knock and, with four goals and a pair of assists in his last six starts, he looks the man most likely to produce as City look to quickly recover from Monday’s home loss to Chelsea.

Palace’s home game with West Brom earns Joel Ward the nod. Tony Pulis’ side have now produced a clean sheet in five of their last seven at Selhurst Park, whilst Ward’s share of corner kicks boosts his prospects of attacking returns against Pepe Mel’s side.

Three goals in his last four league appearances highlights Kevin Mirallas’ current form. The Belgian’s versatility saw him moved to the role in “the hole” for Everton before injuries up top afforded him the lone forward spot – with a share of free-kick duties furthering his appeal, Mirallas could flourish at the Lane this Sunday against a Spurs side with just two clean sheets in eight since Tim Sherwood’s installation.

Southampton’s Jay Rodriguez grabs the final place in our squad. The 6.6-priced forward welcomes Stoke to St Mary’s having scored or assisted in each of the last three and looks in the mood to add to his 10-goal haul against the travel-sick Potters.

So, I’m glad we’re all clear on one thing now - Suarez (C) is a non-starter, yeah? 😉
    (Here’s why - http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2014/02/06/versus-lallana-rodriguez-and-lambert/?hc_page=6#hc_comment_6737234 )

    So, here are the alternatives:

    Robin VAN PERSIE
    Fixture: Man United vs Fulham
    Owned by: 17.4%
    Last 5: 0 / 0 / 0 / 8 / 7
Double figure hauls this season: 3 in 12 starts
Personal record vs opponent: 7 goals in 14 appearances
    Team last 5 vs opponent: 1-0 / 3-2 / 4-1 / 1-0 / 3-1
United home record: 16 goals scored, 10th in Prem
Fulham away record: 28 goals, 20th in Prem

Summary: Undoubtedly a prolific striker on his day and proven ability to produce double figures. He also has a plum fixture and the obvious captain IF you can afford him.

Team alternatives: Rooney has been forced deeper since the arrival of Mata and failed those who put the armband on him last week, with a 1 point, yellow-card affected score. Mata, on the other hand, is an interesting alternative - pulling the strings for United, he’s set up 2 of their 3 goals since his arrival - surely involved should United score big.

    Edin DZEKO
    Fixture: Norwich vs Man City
    Owned by: 11.5%
    Last 5: 1 / 7 / 7 / 15 / 2
Double figure hauls this season: 1 in 11 starts
Personal record vs opponent: 3 goals in 4 appearances
    Team last 5 vs opponent: 5-1 / 6-1 / 4-3 / 2-3 / 7-0
City away record: 26 goals, 1st in Prem
Norwich home record: 11 goals, 8th in Prem

Summary: Dzeko seems to be the man holding Pellegrini’s trust right now, so is the most certain striker to start. City have been prolific vs Norwich in the past, and will be looking to send out a message after the Chelsea defeat.

Team alternatives: Those with Negredo may take the risk - but a cameo could be likely, with doubts over his fitness. In midfield, Yaya looks a good pick, with his uncanny ability to pick up points, despite all logic. Silva isn’t explosive, but can be relied upon to pick up an assist and provide a decent captain score.

    Eden HAZARD
    Fixture: Chelsea vs Newcastle
    Owned by: 35.5%
    Last 5: 6 / 8 / 2 / 3 / 3
Double figure hauls this season: 6 in 23 starts
Personal record vs opponent: 1 goal in 2 appearances
    Team last 5 vs opponent: 2-1 / 3-1 / 1-2 / 2-0 / 0-1
Chelsea home record: 25 goals, 3rd in Prem
Newcastle away record: 16 goals, 12th in Prem

Summary: A name seen many times on this site, although perhaps not trusted by many. Hazard is known for his explosions, but also for his blanks. He is clearly on form and, with no returns in his last 3, perhaps a haul is imminent! Newcastle are lacking morale after the loss of Cabaye & Remy, but this fixture hasn’t been full of goals in recent times.

Team alternatives: Very few in the front line. Neither Eto’o or Willian have proven reliable Fantasy options, but Oscar may have a point to prove after being benched against Man City. Perhaps the best option, although risky, could be one of Chelsea’s centre backs. With an excellent defensive record, Terry and Cahill also have a threat from corners. I wouldn’t recommend captaining a defender however.

    Adam LALLANA
    Fixture: Southampton vs Stoke
    Owned by: 31.8%
    Last 5: 2 / 10 / 2 / 10 / 10
Double figure hauls this season: 7 in 23 starts
Personal record vs opponent: 0 goals in 2 appearances
    Team last 5 vs opponent: 3-3 / 1-1 / 1-1 (3 recent fixtures)
Southampton home record: 19 goals, 7th in Prem
Stoke away record: 25 goals, 18th in Prem

Summary: Perhaps one from outside the box, but there a couple of tempting stats from above. Although defensively sound at home, Stoke have one of the worst away records in the Prem. Furthermore, Lallana has produced 7 double figure hauls this season (5 at home) and three of these have been in his last four. On top form, Lallana can be relied upon to produce the goods at home against a weak away side.

Team alternatives: As displayed in today’s members’ article, Lallana is vying with J-Rod and Lambert to be the Saints’ top dog. Lallana’s form is the most impressive and he has a very strong home bias, but his strikers could also produce a respectable score this weekend, should Southampton continue their good form.

Adam JOHNSON (or AJ to his friends)
    Fixture: Sunderland vs Hull
    Owned by: 13.0%
    Last 5: 1 / 22 / 13 / 8 / 8
Double figure hauls this season: 2 in 16
Personal record vs opponent: 0 goals in 4 appearances
Team last 5 vs opponent: 0-1 (1 recent fixture)
Sunderland home record: 13 goals, 16th in Prem
Hull away record: 21 goals, 16th in Prem

Summary: AJ is the form player in the league, playing against a poor away team, so must be considered. For those owning him, he is likely to be ditched after this game, with a tough run ahead. Therefore, another double figure haul would be a nice goodbye. 🙂

    Team alternatives: None worth captaining.

    DIFFERENTIAL OPTIONS:
    - Daniel STURRIDGE
Pros: An interesting alternative to Suarez, having been the man producing the goals since his return from injury.
Cons: A risky move if you don’t see Suarez as an option. Up against two top class centre backs.
    - Christian BENTEKE
Pros: Having returned points in his last four, he has a nice home fixture to continue his return to form.
Cons: Villa suck at home. 😉 And the underlying stats don’t suggest the real Benteke is back yet.
    - Wilfried BONY
Pros: Like Benteke, his form has picked up recently and has the chance with the league’s basement dwellers coming to the Liberty.
Cons: Swansea could go either way after Laudrup’s sacking and Bony has let many a FPL manager down in recent weeks.

    My pick:
It is well publicised that Dzeko will be my pick this week. There are plenty of arguments for and against him, but I see City bouncing back and giving Norwich a thrashing. We have seen with Suarez that his previous exploits vs Norwich have had a mental effect on them (hattrick after hattrick), so I will be hoping for a repeat of the recent beatings handed out by City.

However, I can see people may not be brave enough to join me.

Which category do you fit in? Those wanting…

    … a safe pick… Choose Mata/RVP
… an explosive pick… Choose Hazard
… a really satisfying pick if successful… Choose Lallana

And I think I’d recommend Lallana. 🙂 I wasn’t aware of how the stats favoured him until I did the stats. He has returned several hauls at home and he’s in great form. Plus, Stoke are poor away.

If successful, a Lallana (C) could be really satisfying with the knowledge that you have worked hard and thought it through to beat the casuals!

Best of luck to all who take the (C) away from that pesky Uruguayan! 😀

I mentioned Mata in the alternative team options for RVP. Didn't double on teams but said if you can't afford RVP, Mata looks good.

And Suarez's career record (over several seasons) is poor vs the big teams. Just providing my opinion. 🙂 But yes, super-human Suarez hasn't played them at home.

    Jesus, captain picking is awful:

    1) Suarez - playing against ARS, who are defending very well

    2) Dzeko - City is better away, might not play the whole game

    3) Hazard - Chelsea tend to score a goal or two and cruise the rest of the game

If you're trailing badly, captain Dzeko. If you're trailing, captain Haz. If you're leading, captain Suarez. That's how I'd rate them in order of safety.

Need to transfer out Moxey, 0.0 in bank.

I'm thinking a Hull defender so who is most likely for gametime between McShane and Rosenior?

Or if someone got a better option I would be glad to hear!

Depends who you have. Scott Dann may make debut so would replace Delaney or Gabbidon.

well they have like a 'trophy cabinet' with trophies such as , over 100 score in one week, own a player who scores a hattrick etc.

just nice for these achievements to be noted!
