David Moyes’ men are under further scrutiny as United fail to beat basement-dwellers Fulham at Old Trafford, while Emmanuel Adebayor sneaks a winner against Everton to send Spurs above the Toffees in the race for Champions League football.

Van Persie Still Toiling to Justify Price Tag
Robin van Persie’s equaliser at Old Trafford means he has now scored in all three appearances since returning from a thigh injury. Indeed, the Dutchman has found the net in seven of his last eight Premier League games and, whilst he is beginning to show some of the consistency that made him FPL’s most expensive player, he’s produced just two sets of double figures over that run, offering far less security as an armband option. Luis Suarez had left the captain’s door wide open with a nominal contribution to his side’s five goals on Saturday – Eden Hazard’s 21 point-haul set the benchmark sky-high but Van Persie’s six points at home to a struggling side was hugely disappointing for those managers who’d readjusted their squads in order to accommodate the 13.6 forward.

Rooney Stumbles Again as Mata Ticks Over
If van Persie’s performance was underwhelming, Wayne Rooney’s owners will be seriously considering his Fantasy prospects. Having started the game just behind Van Persie, with Ashley Young and Juan Mata either side, Rooney once again played a significant portion of the game in a withdrawn berth. The England forward arguably improved the hosts threat from his deeper role but, at 11.3, he’s now drawn blanks in all three appearances since returning from injury and could well be set for a transfer out of our squads. Mata, on the other hand, shared a near-identical average position with Rooney but had far superior creative outputs. The Spaniard created five chances to Rooney’s one and picked up a third assists in as many games – with a couple of bonus points also accrued, the 9.8-priced midfielder is steadily accumulating the points, in spite of his side’s struggles.

Time to Forget Moyes’ Defence
Fulham’s exposure of United’s defensive fragility will have set alarm bells ringing as the Champions prepare for five weeks on the road across all competitions. Moyes’ men have picked up just two clean sheets away from Old Trafford this season, and face a challenging run of fixtures which afford them home comforts in just two their next six league games – playing host to free-scoring Liverpool and Manchester City in that period. With a blank in Gameweek 28 confirmed, there could surely be no worse a time to invest in the Red Devils’ rearguard.

Sidwell in the Goals Yet Again
Rene Meulensteen rang the changes following Fulham’s dismal home defeat to Southampton. The Cottagers boss opted for a younger, more mobile line-up, with Brede Hangeland, Damien Duff, Scott Parker and Darren Bent dropping to the bench, yet it was an old face who stole the limelight, as Steve Sidwell continued to defy his 5.2 FPL price tag. The industrious midfielder was instrumental in the Cottager’s upset at Old Trafford and, having notched his sixth strike of the season, now sits 13th in the midfield standings – one point above David Silva – and top by position on points per pound. It remains to be seen whether Meulensteen’s invigorated squad will offer up more budget-friendly alternatives as the weeks progress, but with tough games in the short term (LIV, wba, CHE), Fantasy managers will likely remains sceptical for now.

Adebayor the Tottenham Talisman as Eriksen is Hauled off Early
A match-winning goal and couple of bonus points kept Emanuel Adebayor on Fantasy radars yesterday. The Togolese star now boasts six goals and three assists in his nine Premier League starts under Tim Sherwood – a very respectable 6.2 points per game, level with Van Persie and Rooney and bettered only by Suarez, Sergio Aguero and Daniel Sturridge this season. The 7.9-priced forward continues to offers exceptional value ahead of trips to Newcastle and Norwich before Spurs welcome Cardiff to the Lane in Gameweek 28, when the likes of United and City both face blanks.

Christian Eriksen’s owners will be somewhat concerned by yesterday’s turn of events, though. The Dane, who had missed just 23 minutes of Sherwood’s first eight matches in charge, was given just 58 minutes to impress before being replaced by Andros Townsend against Everton. As the injuries start to ease in midfield, it seems his game time is a little less secure than we’d hoped for, with Sherwood willing to sacrifice him early in order to change things around.

Vertonghen’s Return Builds Case for Spurs’ Defence
The 6.9-priced defender immediately registered on the FPL radar on his return to action last week with a couple of bonus points against Hull, despite his side conceding at the KC. With Sunday’s clean sheet against the high-flying Toffees, the Belgian is showing some encouraging Fantasy form ahead of those tidy fixtures over the next three gameweeks. Spurs have kept a clean sheet in 50% of the games in which Vertonghen has played (eight from 16), a figure that dropped to 22% (two from nine) during his absence. His influence will certainly boost the appeal of the Spurs defence, with Kyle Walker perhaps the most likely to reap investment. Walker’s assist from a quickly-taken free-kick sealed three bonus points, as the right back continues to offer attacking threat along with his improved clean sheet potential.

I'm making good progress, but my reliance on heavy hitters is starting to show. My cheapies are just not getting the points. Any advice on this team?

    Mannone, McGregor
    Koscielny, Coleman, Mariappa, Rosenior, Fabio
    Hazard, Mata, Ki, Noone, Shelvey
    RVP, Suarez, Sturridge

Rosenior, Mariappa, Ki and Noone are the obvious ones to go, but Shelvey also frees up some cash. I have two free transfers, 0.4 in the bank. Transfer suggestions?

Best defender for the next 3?

    A) Dawson - new/nor/CAR
    B) Zabaleta - SUN/STO/blank
    C) Demel or Reid - NOR/SOT/eve

Leaning towards Dawson as Newcastle/Norwich/Cardiff aren't particularly in great goal scoring form at the moment plus he doesnt have a blank coming up for GW 28

I'm a big fan of Reid but he hasn't started yet has he? that will have to rule him out as an option for this GW at least

Not really a fan of Spurs defence. They aren't normally considered to be particularly solid at the back but admittedly I haven't looked into it since AVB was sacked.

That leaves Zabaletta, however I'm not convinced by Citeh's defence. They tend to leak goals too regularly for my liking but of the three options Zab would have to be the favourite I think

Hi! It's my first season and I discovered this game after the start of the season. So I started in Gameweek 3. Now there is a Current Rank that is called "Gameweek 3". Two questions:

Is that the rank of every player that started in Gameweek 3?

And where can I see how many players are in that League? (cuz I'm 614, but I don't know if that's good or not...)

    Cheers in advance

Yes - it's the rank of everyone who started in GW3.

There is a way to see how many are in the league, but it needs a little work. Click on the 'Gameweek 3' link and you should go to a page like

      http://fantasy.premierleague.com/my-leagues/xxx/standings/

Where xxx is the code for the Gameweek 3 league

click on the 'Next' button at the bottom of the first 50 team names and this will go to

      http://fantasy.premierleague.com/my-leagues/xxx/standings/?ls-page=2

You can then do trial-and-error on the 'page=2' bit (change it for 'page=100' or something like that) and you will eventually come to the bottom of the league. And by then, you will know how many teams are in it.

He's clearly Jose's first choice LB. Can't see him changing a defence that has only conceded twice in 8 games. And I'd much rather Chelsea defensive cover over Liverpool. They've been dire for most of this season.

Azp is playing really well now and we're not conceding goals. I don't think Jose will switch it up anytime soon. If anything I think he'll use Cole's experience in CL rather than in PL, especially since we didn't have the hardest draw.

Morning guys. I'm a bit stumped as to what to do this GW, I have 2 FTs but no cash, I want to save one of the transfers for GW27 to deal with the GW29 blank. This is my lineup:

    Adrián
    McShane Azpilicueta Yoshida
    Hazard Mata Eriksen Mirallas
    Suárez van Persie Sturridge

    Subs: Mannone Noone Olsson Ward

    A) Eriksen -> Sterling/someone else below 7M
    B) Noone -> someone at 4.3M or below... who?
    C) Yoshi out as he'll lose his spot when Lovren is back
    D) Something else

That's the "problem" with my team, I have no pressing issues. Eriksen out is far from pressing. Lovren is supposed to be back sooner than expected and is already in light training, possibly GW27 (?) Problem with Yoshi is his price though, what good options are there at 4.0M? Hehe.

    Frontlines in flux

With Sturridge outscoring Suarez regularly, ManC and ManU missing gameweek 28 and the gameweek 29 potential blanks to ponder is now the best time to get a differential forward into your frontline?

Sturridge or Suarez, or even both look like shoo-ins.

That leaves one to two spots. Which strikers do you think should be there and why?

    I'll get the ball rolling.

Lambert - quite good fixtures, on set pieces and in an attacking side
Benteke/Agbonlahor - good fixtures and a real differential
Crouch - don't laugh - but Stoke play gwk 29 definitely. Fixtures not too bad and his form is pretty good.

As long as your defence is pretty settled, the attacking options can be pretty fluid in my opinion. Personally Suarez and JRod are immovable for me, giving me a spare slot to play with as I see fit. It's only going to get complicated when Aguero is back.

I don't think you really need differentials unless you're chasing down a massive lead in a ML. Still go for the big hitters at this point and I would have thought their big hauls will pay for any points hits you might need to take in GW29.

All good choices. I'm just saying that you don't need to go out looking for differentials just because of possible missing games. Deal with that when it comes to it. Go with whoever you think will get the most points, then if need be you can use that profit to help sort out your team come GW29.

Lambert. I'm yet to assess the stats since Osvaldo left but I have a feeling his form has improved over the new year. He's hinting at getting back to the similar form which saw him dominate last season. Crickey he has even passed JRod and we barely saw it coming. If thats what he can do when he's mostly off form imagine what he can do when he's on form.

I have Benteke as the 3rd wheel though there is a big "maybe" on him to return to his goal scoring feat.
Other options should I opt to get rid of Benteke are Lambert (same reason), JRod (consistent returns), Adebayor ( a bit inconsistent though), and the ultra cheap Chamakh (to have a strong midfield)

    My Picks for the Gw
    Last Weeks Picks
    Zabaleta- 8
    Adam-10
    Swansea Defence- 6+
    West ham Defence 6+

This is taking into account long and short term (5.2 is cheap)
Michael Dawson- Locked and Loaded in the tottenham back four- with vertoghen back and no rotation- spurs will look to get back to defensive best

Coutinho- Picked up an assist in the thrashing of arsenal and now that Rodgers is utilizing 1 striker upfront and suarez and sterling on the flanks- Coutinho's prospects are significantly boosted. Blossomed at end of last season.

Peter Crouch- scores of 5,6, 12,2,7, 2 at the Britannia bodes well for crouchs prospects-with a gw 28 fixture likely Crouch could be a good short term punt.

Phil Jagielka- Everton have some good fixtures coming up and this man is certainly lost amongst the Baines and the Colemans. Likely to be 1-0 or 2-0 this match against palace could see Jagielka also reap bonus points.

Great article on crossing and Man Utd from October last year. As a Utd fan it's seriously worrying how much Moyes has changed things since Ferguson and how little things have changed since October, despite the addition of Mata and discovery of Januzaj.

I hope he can tweak it much like how City play with their wide players. He is using fantastic creative players on the wing like Januzaj and Mata. If they were used as inverted wingers regularly running into central areas then we could make a solid 4222 formation with Rooney and RVP up front. City do it with Silva and Nasri and I think United should do the same thing. All he has to do is release the shackles and let his wide players be more than just wide players.

I definitely agree but this is precisely my point. The article, written in October still holds as much weight now as it did back then. Moyes has done nothing to show that he is willing to change the system and adapt. Last night's match just confirms his unwillingness/ inability to do so to a ridiculous extent and it is very worrying!

Hi all, should I do AJ > Mirallas and Gnabry > Zaha? Gives me this... 3-5-2 for the next two GW's until we figure out what the essential forward line is.

      Marshall

      Coleman Koscielny Collins

      Haz Caz Mata Mirallas Zaha

      Suarez Adebayor

      Subs: Mannone, Bony, Vlaar, Ward

Doesn't look awfully bad, not sure Zaha is worth taking a striker out for though.

I might think about using one of those FTs on Marshall.

How did Bony play vs Cardiff, apart from his goal, was he a threat?

            Wait for Yaya news.
Sturridge over Long for sure though.

Might risk it and make mirallas captain this week. Anyone else thinking the same?

Maybe Mirallas(VC) in case FUL-LIV is called of due to tube strikes.

If the games get cancelled in GW 29 when do they normally get rearranged?
