[sbu_large_image] Suspensions

Wes Brown’s red card habit continues to blight the Black Cats chances of beating the drop after the centre-half was sent packing for the third time this term.

Given that the first dismissal (for a foul on Charlie Adam back in Gameweek 12) was rescinded, however, this means Brown will only serve a two-match ban – one for denying a goalscoring opportunity and another for receiving his second confirmed suspension of the season.

The former United man was a victim of Gus Poyet’s penchant for playing it out from the back on Saturday. Phil Bardsley’s pass into no man’s land was pounced upon by Shane Long and, as the Baggies new boy bore sprinted towards goal, Brown scythed him down just outside the penalty area with only four minutes on the clock.

Playing with 10 men for the rest of the match, the Wearsiders were unable to extend their four-match unbeaten run as both Long and strike partner Nikica Jelavic notched a goal apiece to help Steve Bruce get one over his former club.

Brown will now miss Wednesday’s trip to City and is set to be sidelined for the upcoming FA Cup clash with Southampton, meaning he only misses one league match. Looking at Sunderland’s recent defensive displays, this is a huge relief for Poyet – the Black Cats have four clean sheets in the last six games that Brown has played from start to finish, winning three and drawing three of those fixtures. Bizarrely, he has yet to receive a yellow card this term.

We now have five players on the right-card limit after Stoke’s Jon Walters earned another yellow during Saturday’s draw at St Mary’s. He joins Fabian Delph, Marouane Chamakh, Wayne Rooney and Jonas Olsson on the naughty step, with 11 players further back on seven cautions apiece.

Elsewhere, Andy Carroll serves the second of his controversial three-match ban against Norwich tomorrow, with the Hammers target man also set to sit out the Gameweek 27 home game against Southampton. Mathieu Flamini, Allan McGregor and Loic Remy are also sidelined, with all three serving the last of their respective three-match suspensions.

Finally, Yaya Toure owners can breathe a sigh of relief after the FA confirmed they will not be taking action over his alleged altercation with Norwich’s Ricky Van Wolfswinkel at the weekend.

The incident, which was missed by the match officials, was reviewed by a three-man panel of former referees earlier today. In order for a charge to follow, all three must agree the act was violent conduct but their decision was not unanimous, meaning Toure is free to turn out for City against Sunderland tomorrow evening.

Cardiff’s Craig Bellamy has been charged for an incident in Saturday’s loss at Welsh rivals Swansea and looks poised to face a three-match ban. The panel were unanimous in their decision, though the Bluebirds have since confirmed they are reviewing the matter ahead of tomorrow’s 6pm deadline. If found guilty, Bellamy will miss home league games against Villa and Hull, in addition to an FA Cup clash with Wigan, before being available for selection in time for the Gameweek 28 trip to Tottenham.

Gameweek 26 - The Captain Conundrum

    Teams to consider:
    West Brom v CHELSEA
    EVERTON v Crystal Palace
    MAN CITY v Sunderland
    Fulham v LIVERPOOL

    Captaincy Contenders:
    - CHELSEA - Eden HAZARD
    Fixture: West Brom v CHELSEA
    Owned by: 38.0%
    Last 5: 8 / 2 / 3 / 3 / 21
Double figure hauls this season: 7 in 24 starts
Personal record vs opponent: 2 goals in 3 appearances
    Team last 5 vs opponent: 2-1 / 0-1 / 1-2 / 1-0 / 2-2
Chelsea away record: 19 goals, 5th in Prem
West Brom home record: 14 goals conceded, 10th in Prem

Summary: All the team stats tend to suggest this won’t be a great fixture for Chelsea. Recent results have not been favourable and West Brom are fairly resilient at home. Recent home games against Everton and Liverpool have ended in 1-1 draws. The heavy defeat at Palace will knock their confidence, but they are a better team at home. Eden Hazard, on the other hand, is screaming for the armband. His hauls come around sporadically, but he is undoubtedly in the form of his life. The Belgian could easily hoover up the points and reward faithful owners.

Team alternatives: Very few in the front line. Neither Eto’o or Willian have proven reliable Fantasy options, and Oscar is playing second fiddle to Hazard. Perhaps the best option, although risky, could be one of Chelsea’s centre backs, again. West Brom are far from prolific and the likes of Gary Cahill offer attacking threat - David Luiz has the potential to ruin any clean sheet, mind you.

    - EVERTON - Kevin MIRALLAS
    Fixture: EVERTON v Crystal Palace
    Owned by: 9.0%
    Last 5: 9 / 6 / 1 / 9 / 2
Double figure hauls this season: 2 in 21 starts
Personal record vs opponent: 0 goals in 1 appearances
Team last 5 vs opponent: 0-0 (only recent fixture)
Everton home record: 23 goals, 5th in Prem
Crystal Palace away record: 19 goals conceded, 12th in Prem

Summary: Another Belgian makes the list. This one, too, is beginning to show consistent levels of performance and has returned decent FPL points. With goals in Everton’s last three straightforward fixtures, Mirallas could feature as the lone striker vs Palace. With Kone not up to speed and Naismith looking toothless against Spurs, Martinez may play Mirallas up top. At the very least, a central role looks likely. In terms of the fixture, Everton are strong at home, but not exactly high scoring. A risky captain choice, but the greedy trickster is likely to be involved in all things good.

Team alternatives: With no Lukaku offering a guaranteed front line option, the best alternatives appear to be in defence, with Baines and Coleman scrapping it out to hog the lime light. Palace lack goals, but will be boosted by their goal scoring debutants. As always, defensive captains come with high risk.

    - MAN CITY - Yaya TOURE
    Fixture: MAN CITY v Sunderland
    Owned by: 44.0%
    Last 5: 3 / 13 / 6 / 3 / 3
Double figure hauls this season: 4 in 24 starts
Personal record vs opponent: 1 goal in 5 appearances
    Team last 5 vs opponent: 0-1 / 3-3 / 3-0 / 0-1 / 0-1
Man City home record: 42 goals, 1st in Prem
Sunderland away record: 17 goals conceded, 8th in Prem

Summary: Having been lucky to escape a 3 match ban, Yaya looks certain to rub it in the faces of all non-owners and produce his biggest haul of the season. That’s the thing with Yaya - he defies all logic. He’s frustrated, out of form, playing deeper in a City team who are unbelievably struggling for goals and form… cue a monster Yaya haul. I refuse to go into the stats and what they suggest - because the exact opposite will happen. 😉

Team alternatives: Plenty could return big. You would expect City to bounce back, even when depleted by injuries against a decent away team. However, there are no stand out options in reality. David Silva is consistent and could get a captain score of 10-12. Jesus Navas could follow Raheem Sterling to a star perform… or could be all sprint and no substance. Up front is a bigger minefield, with concerns over the fitness and form of Dzeko, Negredo and Jovetic. I would recommend avoiding all three, with line ups uncertain in the Wednesday fixture. Despite a plum fixture, the City options look disappointing.

    - LIVERPOOL - Luis SUAREZ
    Fixture: Fulham v LIVERPOOL
    Owned by: 52.8%
    Last 5: 13 / 5 / 11 / 4 / 5
Double figure hauls this season: 10 in 20 starts
Personal record vs opponent: 4 goals in 4 appearances
    Team last 5 vs opponent: 0-1 / 0-1 / 4-0 / 3-1 / 4-0
Liverpool away record: 25 goals, 3rd in Prem
Fulham home record: 25 goals conceded, 20th in Prem

Summary: This could be the highest scoring fixture of the week, with Liverpool in top form. Fulham may have defied the odds against United, but you would back Suarez to produce where the Red Devils failed. After missing out on his goal against Arsenal, the striker will be desperate to find the net at the Cottage. Having been pushed wide as Sturridge destroyed Mertesacker, Brendan Rodgers is likely to push the Uruguayan back into the middle to massage his ego. If ever a player was ‘due’, this would be the man, with a fixture to explode.

Team alternatives: This man deserves a mention in capitals too - Daniel STURRIDGE. The model of consistency, with 15 goals in the Premier League, he really is a viable alternative to team mate Suarez. With goals in his last 5 games, any defensive responsibilities have failed to affect his finishing. Although not as explosive as Suarez, he can be trusted to offer a very effective differential, should he outscore him again.
*** Note - the Liverpool fixture is currently in doubt, as seen in the Scout tweets. Do not set up your Suarez (C), Sturridge (VC) until 3 o’clock tomorrow afternoon at the earliest.***

    Differential Options:
    Cardiff City v Aston Villa
    - Cardiff will be reeling from a derby thrashing and were overrun by Norwich in the last home game - neither team would have expected to dominate so much. Villa are a much better team away from home, so Christian BENTEKE may have opportunities to find the net.
    Hull City v Southampton
    - Southampton will test a Hull team who are defensively sound at home. However, the Saints thrashed them 4-1 in the reverse fixture. Adam LALLANA has performed consistently in recent weeks, whilst Jay RODRIGUEZ is the joint top-scorer in away fixtures this season, with 7 in 12 games. Both could score well if Southampton perform.
    West Ham v Norwich
    - A home fixture against one of the worst away teams could bode well for a resurgent West Ham team. With Kevin NOLAN defying the odds in Andy Carroll’s absence, the chicken dance may re-emerge with Nolan can build on his four goals in two games.
    Arsenal v Man Utd
    - This could go either way - both teams will look to keep it tight, but both were far from convincing at the weekend. With both teams desperate to win, a goal fest cannot be ruled out. The only real captaincy choice is Robin VAN PERSIE. Juan Mata has been consistent since joining, but many a punter would back RVP to notch against his old club to deepen their woes. Similar to Yaya, he seems nailed on to return something for those keeping the faith.
    Newcastle v Tottenham
    - Not a particularly attractive fixture, with many other tempting captaincy choices out there. The key man is likely to be Emmanuel ADEBAYOR, after his match-winning goal against Everton. The target man prefers playing away - always one to fight against the odds - so could be set to continue his good form against a Newcastle team scraping the bottom of the morale barrel
    Stoke City v Swansea
    - Last and very much least... Charlie ADAM? Peter CROUCH? If you’re really, really, really desperate. No… just don’t.

    My choice:
For Fulham to release a statement regarding their game against Liverpool, there must be some serious doubt around it going ahead. I’m certain if the strikers (the Tube staff, not SaS) sense an opportunity to cause maximum disruption, they will surely take it. Therefore, I can see Liverpool’s front two having their feet up on Merseyside. Therefore, it has to be form over fixtures - Eden HAZARD. The form man in the Premier League, his performances had not returned the FPL points deserved until the weekend. If Palace can score three, albeit away, I’m backing Hazard to score four. Cue a 2-point flop. 😉 (For what it’s worth, it will be Yaya (VC) - form over fixtures edged him out.)

But no, being serious, the Belgian is the man to back. Best of luck all. 🙂

Many people on here still in the FPL Cup?

If so, how are you matching up to your opponent this week?

I am up against a rank of 150k, and triple Pool attack, the Fulhams game being off should gift me into the next round 😎

If the Fulham Liverpool game is postponed and you have more than 2 Liverpool Players e.g. Suarez and A N other

Will you benching both players or will you be just benching Suarez and selling the 2nd Liverpool player in order to field a full XI

                      Any thoughts is welcome

The thing is, not many of us can afford to bench either, simply because our bench is too crook to come on.

I'd be benching Suarez & Sturridge and playing my 5th midfielder, who I'd need to upgrade with my FT. And then there will be tears if Pellegrini names an unchanged starting XI

Does anyone know how FA CUP replays will affect the rescheduling?

For example, let's say City and Chelsea draw. Does that mean that the both miss out on GW29 fixtures? I wouldn't think so.. I think we would have to find out from the replay who misses out on GW29. And as for the replay date itself.. would this fall on such a date that it would not affect any gameweek? Who knows...

The repley would play sometime before the next round of FA Cup starts so that doesn't matter

If they can't play before they will play on next cup game date.
Usually only impacts on teams still in Europe I think

FA Cup games take precedence over League games. Three weeks between this weekend's games and the next Cup round on the 8th of March.
Replays should as far as possible be played before that. The individual clubs may have dates pencilled in in case of a replay, no way for us to know.

So for the teams not playing in Europe, a draw would mean we would have to wait even longer to see who would miss out for GW29 then? Hmm I'm hoping for no draws then :/

this is ridiculous... is the tube the only way of transportation in London?!

The sheer volume of people needed to get in and out of one location would be far too great for that. London is nightmare to drive though in normal traffic.

Those wishing to avoid the Tube can use the Putney National Rail station, which can be reached from Waterloo and Clapham Junction. Its about a 15 or 20 minute walk to the ground

Man City, Chelsea, Bayern, Madrid, Barca all with new managers.

                          Klopp unrealistic. Mark Hughes? 😉

After the WC, Cesare Prandelli would be a great addition to any team.

AVB wouldn't be a bad option.. did well at Tottenham and was left go too soon before he managed to establish a squad of his own.

and only until May because he is set to take over the Netherlands National Team from Van Gaal after the World Cup

yeah a possibility I realized is that we could have Hiddink until May and then Van Gaal after that because they will be swapping into/out of the Netherlands job.

could even speak together about United in the interim as I'm sure they will be doing about Netherlands.

Preparing for 3pm tomorrow... Should I need to rely on my 5th midfielder then he'd better get an upgrade. Which one of these would be the best bet? (5.9 budget)

Zaha, Ince, Adam, Downing (erm... yes, I wrote Downing), Townsend, Routledge or Barkley.

Guys, Im going to upgrade one of Bruce Bennett or Gabbidon. Can do Gabbidon to anyone up to 5.4 or Bruce/Bennett to anyone up to 5.1. Can anyone suggest a better transfer than Gabbidon to Distin?

                        Adam Johnson to

                        A) Adam Lallana

                        Or

                        B) Kevin Mirallas?
