With a weekend of FA Cup action getting underway later today, Fantasy managers still have plenty to ponder. Santi Cazorla misses out for Arsenal, John Terry is still sidelined for Chelsea, Michu may return for Swansea, Samir Nasri is back for City, whilst Roberto Martinez admits he’s keen to be cautious with Ross Barkley’s fitness. Here’s what yesterday’s press conferences brought us:

Arsene Wenger will be without the services of Santi Cazorla for Sunday’s home clash with Liverpool. The Spaniard is ruled out through illness as the Gunners look to avenge last weekend’s 5-1 hiding at Anfield. Wenger welcomes Mathieu Flamini back from suspension, though, but admitted he may not make too many changes from the side that drew with United on Wednesday evening:

“I will play a team with a good opportunity, a good chance to qualify. Will I rest one player, or two or three, I don’t know yet. Certainly we will have just have one focus, which is to win the game. We have rotated quite well, if you look at the number of players we have used. I have the same level of confidence in every player. For example, I rate Jenkinson but Sagna has a bit more experience so when we go in a game with more pressure I give the advantage sometimes to the experienced [player].”

Jordan Henderson may miss out for Liverpool after undergoing wrist surgery, with a late decision expected to be taken on the midfielder’s availability. Brendan Rodgers reckons Glen Johnson could remain sidelined for the Emirates trip. The right-back returned to training over the last few days and his manager is optimistic he could be in the frame for next weekend’s home clash against Swansea:

“We’ll be similar to what we were the other night [against Fulham]. Glen Johnson is working very well. I’m not sure he’ll be ready for the game this weekend, but if we can have a good week next week he’ll be very close. He looks fresher and he looks fitter. That period that he’s had out has really helped him. He’s in good condition. But there is still a bit to go yet.”

Samir Nasri and Javi Garcia are back in the City squad for this evening’s visit of Chelsea. Manuel Pellegrini has admitted Sergio Aguero, Fernandinho and Matija Nastasic are all still sidelined through injury before proceeding to hail Nasri’s return as crucial:

“Nasri is a very important player, so it’s impossible not to miss him. But we’ve also had other injuries before Sami, with David Silva, Sergio Aguero or Jovetic or Kompany and we always managed to continue winning. I think in the last two weeks, maybe we have injuries in the same position and that was our major problem.”

John Terry misses out yet again as Chelsea make their way to the Etihad. Jose Mourinho confirmed his captain is sidelined for the third successive match due to a muscle problem, whilst his worries in central defence are building – Gary Cahill was due for scans on the calf complaint he picked up during the midweek draw at West Brom.

Gus Poyet may be set to welcome back Carlos Cuellar from a hip injury as Sunderland prepare to face Southampton. The Black Cats boss has confirmed his intentions to play Emmanuel Giaccherini and new boy Ignacio Scocco but also revealed the cancellation of Wednesday’s trip to City has had a significant effect on his likely line-up:

“The postponement changed my plans, no doubt. It’s a totally different situation now with no game midweek, so it will be a totally different team. Normally you don’t put out the same team on Saturday that you put out on Wednesday but we didn’t play a game Wednesday so I have to bear that in mind. It gives me a chance to name a stronger side than I would have but I will still make changes though. Giacchy needs to play football and we need to help Ignacio feel the pace of the English game. I’m sure he’ll be surprised at the speed – in the first 10 minutes he’ll be thinking ‘oh my god!’ – but he needs to get used to it and this is an opportunity for him.”

Roberto Martinez discussed the fitness of Lacina Traore and Ross Barkley ay Everton’s press conference yesterday. The Toffees manager confirmed the former is poised for his club debut after arriving on loan from Monaco last month before revealing he somewhat regrets rushing Barkley back into action after the youngster was sidelined with a toe injury:

“Lacina has been sharp in training and has surprised everyone in the medical department at how quickly he has got his fitness levels high for the competition. We have to make sure there is no risk for him to participate but, clearly, there is a good opportunity for him to be involved on Sunday in one way or another. …..I did bring [Barkley] back too early, especially for the game against Aston Villa. We need to make sure that now, he’s fully recovered and refreshed, and is ready to have a massive role between now and the end of the season. Ross is going to be vital for us in this final third, and we need to make sure we use him wisely and when he is 100 per cent.”

Swansea boss Garry Monk is hopeful of a return to action for Michu at Goodison. The Spaniard has failed to play since late December after undergoing ankle surgery and missed a couple of days’ training recently but has now stepped up his recovery:

“He was training today, so we’ll see how he feels. If he’s a possibility for the weekend, we will talk to the player. Maybe he will be involved on the weekend.”

Kenwyne Jones and Fabio are cup-tied for Cardiff’s home clash with holders Wigan. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are waiting to hear back from United for confirmation of Wilfried Zaha’s availability, though – the on-loan wide man was an unused sub for his parent club in the Swans’ win at Old Trafford last month. The Bluebirds boss hinted he may make some changes for the clash during yesterday’s press conference:

“It’s a chance for some players to come in and show they should be playing in the league and I do not go into any game hoping we lose.”

Keep Yaya & Silva this week save transfer, when they have blank Silva > (somebody) if they beat chelsea then bench Yaya week after? Or sell and bring back in next GW?

Yeah regardless of what blanks occur in GW29 you will likely need to get rid of Silva no matter what for GW28. You may have other bigger problems though so make sure if this is the case whoever you replace Silva with is a decent option for GW29.

Interesting about Barklay. But does that mean if he plays this match he's nailed on for next week? I'm looking at him as a possible investment in my fifth mid slot going into the next few rocky weeks, but nothing seems certain until this round has passed. And what's going on with Terry?

Not enjoying this part of the season (in FPL terms). It's making my head hurt.

They should do really with all the talent at their disposal, but I tipped Chelsea before the season started because of the Mourinho effect.

Of all the managers left only he and Wenger have won the Prem before and, all things being equal, I would have to take Mourinho's experience of having done this before over Pelegrini's better pool of players.

Now Chelsea are in front its hard to see Mourinho bottling it. City also have a lot of games left to play and I think that will take its toll on them.

Plus, Mourinho is the better manager of the two and knows how to play the Fergie style mind games. Witness his cool yet clinical beatdown of Wenger yesterday as an example of this.

I don't think that I would make the #1 supporting point as to who I reckon will win the league on the managers. If City gets their missing mids and Aguero back within the next 2 or 3 weeks and they stay healthy I couldn't see them dropping many more points for the rest of the season. Chelsea have to rely so heavily on their resiliency at the back and with a bit of uncertainty surrounding JT and Cahill coupled with the question of where will their goals come from I think City will still come out on top.

I do of course mate, but in the case of City v Chelsea I think the difference of who will top the league is going to depend more on players' health than managerial tactics. Just my opinion.

City's away form is not stellar though, Walshy.

That gives Chelsea a chance. It will go to the wire but Chelsea under Mourinho have the potential to grind out the results they need.

He's a wily coach. As you saw when Chelsea went to the Etihad and beat City he knows how to get the job done.

City should win it based on talent alone but it doesn't always work that way and Aguero is injury prone.

You're right regarding City away form but they've only got away to Liverpool and Arsenal as tough games.

Chelsea definitely have that grind it out quality that City lack. You make good points and I agree with all of them. It will be close, we'll see! Much more exciting than last year with United running away with it for sure.

Well playing a guy that could barely move was the wrong one, the fact is he still has the same problem to solve now, as he is set for a scan. Take him off straight away and he would prob be definatly fit for their next PL game.

Speculation there regarding whether or not he worsened his injury by limping about on it for a bit but for sure he should not have been on the pitch. You'd think that Cahill would also maybe say as much and say "hey guys, I can't walk let alone run, so take me off"

Odd bit of business all around at the end of that game. Watch Chelsea lose the league by 1 point now 😉

He can move Luiz to CB and there's a guy called Ashley Cole on the bench he can call upon if he need to shuffle his defenders around.

Kind of decent replacements to bring on. He also has solid defensive mids so he could play 3 at the back if he needs to.

I think he's capable of solving that issue should it arise.

That's what I mentioned a couple posts up. Why do you reckon he didn't make the switch? Think Cahill told them to f off and tried to gut it out and just genuinely didn't realize how messed up his leg was?

Off the back of two red arrows. Decimated last week by the postponements. Thoughts on my best move here?

    Boruc, Mannone
    Merte, Kolarov, Coleman, Ward, Chester
    Hazard, Lallana, Mata, Puncheon, Pozuelo
    Suarez, Sturridge, Dzeko

    ITB: £5.0m
I would rather keep Dzeko for this week and avoid the Ade bandwagon. Thinking of upgrading Pozuelo to Gerrard. Realise I need West Ham or Chelsea defensive cover too.

Is Poz to Gerrard a good move?

It certainly shows how important a full playing squad is and that 3.8 and 4.2 non playing defenders or mids are far too risky, at this time of year in particular.

And good lord could Liverpool use him back. Amazing to think about how many injuries they have endured to their defense. Once Agger/Sakho are back and Kolo is back on the bench they no longer have to spot the opposition a goal.

Can't believe how quickly they've replaced Rene at Fulham - only just seen the appointment.

What do we think Magath will do differently? No window for signings, new players, league etc.

    They're going down IMO.

Maybe they're desperate for defence and clean sheets.

I thought it was odd seeing Hangeland and Parker dropped to the bench.

I guess Palace were doomed early on, but the interim manager then Pulis transformed their fortune with clean sheets, then built from there. Hammers keeping cleanies has seem them rocket up the table

Looking at the table it is pretty crazy that Fulham are just 4 points off from climbing out of the relegation zone. It seems that they are buried down there in last place but they really aren't in that bad of shape. They also just went through a rough patch of fixtures and don't have too many more tough games through the end of the season. They could well manage to stay up if they can pull out a couple wins against the others in the relegation zone who they have left on their schedule.

Fulham have 12 games to get 20 points to have any realistic hope of survival.

Realistically, the only ways they can really do that is either:

4 wins, no losses and 8 draws
      5 wins , 2 losses and 5 draws
      6 wins, 4 losses and 2 draws

Whichever way, their margin for error now is virtually non existent. At worst they can only afford to lose 4 more games.

They have to play Chelsea, Man City, Everton and Spurs still and if you assume losses in those games they pretty much have to take points from every other game on their schedule.

Considering the number of games left against fellow strugglers (WBA, CAR, VILLA, NOR, HULL, CPAL) it's hard to see where Fulham will get enough wins from to stay up.

          This is their problem, Walsh.

They play a lot of 6 point games now against fellow strugglers and often that's the worst thing a team in their position can have as their opponent is going to be trying equally hard not to lose that game.

A lot of those kind of games end up as draws. Right now draws aren't really much good to Fulham anymore. They need wins.

I always look at the margin for error as the best indication of a teams chances of staying up. In other words, can they afford to drop points against the teams around them that they should expect to be beating.

If they can't afford to drop points in those games then is a good indication that the task is going to be beyond them.

            You're completely right.

I guess I was looking at it glass half full thinking oh gee they have a lot of games against the crap teams who are in the relegation zone themselves - there may be wins there. When in reality that reads as brutal games that are more likely to end up as draws.

This plus the fact that they are likely the actual worst team in the PL so why would they reasonably manage several wins against other relegation zone teams who are actually better than them.

            They have some fight ahead.

    For GW27:

    Adrián
    Turner Ivanovic Koscielny
    Johnson Yaya Eriksen Lallana Hazard
    Suárez Negredo

    Bench: Mannone Rodriguez Ward Gabbidon

Got in Negredo (rather than Sturridge for the same money) a few weeks ago which has cost me about 40 points and need to try to make that back.

    A) Negredo, Eriksen, Rodriquez -> Adebayor + Sturridge + 5.1 mid
    B) Negredo, Eriksen/Johnson -> Sturridge + Paulinho/Sterling/Nolan/Adam
    C) Negredo, Rodriguez -> Adebayor + Dzeko
    D) Negredo, Rodriguez, Eriksen -> Sturridge + Dzeko + Sterling/Adam

Only have 1FT so looking at -4 or -8 but if Eriksen and Negredo aren't nailed on then I'm happy to take the hit!

Firstly, bench Eriksen for JRod. Risk of him getting a 1 pointer off the bench too great to play him over JRod I think.

You might do well to save your transfer rather than using it on someone who will play in GW27.

160/25 gives us less money per player and being late in the season the likes of Suarez and Coleman are costing us far more now.

Haven't tried to pick a team yet but there's going to be a lot of cheapies at the back.

Will this Ultimate FPL game affect the normal game?

I'm worried about my ML rivals using Ultimate FPL and having it affect the ML.

Or can't it be used in the same game, is it completely different? It'd be unfair having 25 man teams against the original 15 man teams.

It's completely different. It's a beta test period before it launches next season.

Ultimate FPL deadline is 15 minutes before the start of the first game of the day. Lineups pre deadline for the early pickoffs then.

Finding it very hard to find a good team balance. Gone very light defensively to allow for a few big hitters up top.

From the rules "unlimited free transfers can be made before the next deadline."

To me it seems a huge waste of time. What is it that you like about it?

Anybody know an online sharing site where I can upload a certain document and for others with the link to share? Using a social media site but it doesn't seem to have the attachment capability for users to upload directly.

Have you got anything apart from that? Does Dropbox require other user to register an account before they can download off it?

I don't know any others off the top of my head but there's bound to be some. I think everyone needs to be signed up.

Just checked, users can upload the documents and share the link even with non-user. Thanks, Mila.
