Having announced a couple of new cup competitions last week, we thought we’d give you another heads-up as the weekend’s deadline edges closer. Not only do we have the ninth instalment of our open-to-all cup competition, as sponsored by Paddy Power, we also have the Fantasy Football Scout Members Cup IV up and running over the season run-in:

If you’re familiar with our competitions you can get your entries in right now via the links below. If you’re new to all this, read on for an FAQ on the competitions.

Enter the Paddy Power IX Cup via the entry form here.

Members can also enter the Members Cup IV via this entry form.

Are there prizes?

As mentioned, Paddy are supplying the competition with some great prizes and, once again, we’re supplementing these with Amazon Vouchers. The prizes break down for the Fantasy Football Scout Cup IX is as follows:

Winner – £100 worth of free bets. £100 Amazon Voucher
Runner-up – £50 worth of free bets. £50 Amazon Voucher
3rd Place – £50 worth of free bets. £25 Amazon Voucher

In addition, the top scoring manager from each round will win a £25 free bet from Paddy Power on supply of their Paddy Power username.

For the Fantasy Football Scout Members Cup IV, the prizes are:

Winner – £200 Amazon voucher.
Runner-up – £100 Amazon voucher

How do the cup competitions work?

Our cup competitions are very similar to the Fantasy Premier League’s (FPL) Fantasy Cup game. Entrants who qualify for the first round will be randomly drawn against each other and the winner of the tie is whoever has the highest score from that Gameweek, minus points spent on transfers (like in the original game and in head-to-head scores). In the event of a tie, the manager highest in the overall standings will progress.

When do they start?

The qualifying rounds for both cups will take place in Gameweek 27 but you can enter after the Gameweek is played out. All entries received before Monday February 24 will be entered into the qualifying rounds. In the Paddy Power XI cup competition we will have 1024 qualifiers for the first round – those 1016 (plus eight previous winners who will earn a bye, if entered) with the top scores in Gameweek 27 will progress to the first round proper to be played in Gameweek 28. Again, FPL standing will decide who progresses in the event of tied positions. The same rules apply in the Members Cup, although we will restrict this to 512 teams in the first round.

How do I enter?

You can enter the Paddy Power IX Cup via the entry form here.

Members can also enter the Members Cup IV via this entry form.

In both cases you will be sent a confirmation email to verify your entry and you’ll be asked to confirm your FPL team id at the point of entry – please be sure to click the link to verify that your team is correct before confirming.

You can check that you are entered the Paddy Power IX Cup via this list and this list for the Members Cup.

When will I find out if I’ve qualified?

Results from the qualifying rounds of both cups will be published on or around Tuesday February 25 and then weekly from that point on.

What is the Gameweek Schedule?

These Cup competitions will be played out according to the following Gameweek schedule

Paddy Power Cup XI Round Dates

  • Qualifying – Gameweek 27
  • Round 1 – 1024 teams – Gameweek 28
  • Gameweek 29 Skipped Due to Potential Blanks

  • Final – 2 teams – Gameweek 37

When are the fixtures released?

The fixture list for each round of both cups will be published a day or two before each Gameweek deadline.

Do I have to enter if I’m previous winner?

Yes, because your FPL team ID will have changed, we will need to record you entry again. As a previous winner, you will be given a bye to the first round proper.

Do I need to be registered with Fantasy Football Scout?

We ask you to supply a FFS username so we can feature you, as a member of our community, in any articles associated with the tournament. Ideally, you will already have a username with us but this is not essential to enter (although it is for the Members Cup) – you must, however, supply a username for the purpose of the tournament so you can be identified in articles. You must not change this username throughout the course of the tournament, should you do so without permission, or should you enter multiple teams or if your FFS account comes under moderation for any reason, we reserve the right to remove you from a tournament.

I watched Yaya last night ,
We we're right he was pathetic against good players.
An over rated flat track bully with limited ability and the ' casuals ' have got lucky.
Silva / Nasri are way more creative and are head and shoulders over this ' beast '.

I'm glad you watched one of his games and decided to forget about his 400+ professional games, where he has been outstanding in the majority of them and 3 African World Player of the Year awards

and obviously Silva and Nasri are more creative, he isn't meant to be creative player - why not just throw Silva in CB if all you are considering is creativity

My plan for getting rid of Silva is putting in Oscar during Gameweek 28 - 30 then bringing Silva or Toure in for the DGW in Gameweek 31.

    Oscar's fixtures are:

    Fulham (A)
    Tottenham (H)
    Villa (A)

Problem is is that Oscar is not fully nailed on. I expect him to play though.

Well, this is horrible... I have 2FTs and no idea what to do...

The players I want to take out in preparation for the blanks (Yaya & Kos), have great fixtures THIS week so they have to stay...

The players who ACTUALLY have fixtures in GW28/29 are either injured, out of form, or being rotated... (Evans, Eriksen & Fabio)

    Adrian (Mannone)
    Cahill Kos Evans?! (Fabio?! Ward)
    Yaya Hazard Mata Eriksen?! (Mirallas)
    SSJRod

    2FTs, 0.4m ITB...

I do know that I want to roll a FT to next week so I'll only be making one transfer...

A - Eriksen > Snodgrass/Adam/Ince (If he plays v CAR in GW28 he could plunder the points)
B - Fabio > Olsson (It feels wrong to drop someone with FUL in GW29)
C - Lose the troll Evans perhaps (but he a game in GW29 and a DGW to come, albeit a pretty shite one)
    D - Something else?

I seriously have no idea wtf I'm going to do, and any help will be gratefully received...

For any Gooners about, I have a thought question. As a rare serially optimistic supporter, I certainly don't want to be seen as sounding the alarm given that we sit a point behind Chelsea at the top of the table, but I couldn't help but reflect upon a recent Scout article that pointed out our modest goal scoring rate relative to the likes of City or Liverpool. I know our long time formation is the current 4-3-2-1 and I may be selling the likes of The Ox and Gnabry a bit short but, given Theo's absence and the aforementioned goal issue as well as Ozil's recent struggles and Podolski's form, might it be time to consider a formation shift to something like a 4-4-2 diamond formation as follows?

    Sagna Mert Kosc Gibbs
    Flamini
    Chamberlain Santi
    Ozil
    Giroud Podolski

Here Arteta would provide cover for Flamini/Ozil, Gnabry for Chamberlain, Wilshere for Ozil, Monreal for Gibbs/Santi, Ramsey (once fit) would probably have to replace Chamberlain in the side on the left once fit (but he was doing that anyway before he got injured) and Bendtner for Giroud/Podolski.

Is it too weak in terms of providing cover for the defense? I think the big upside is that it would give Ozil TWO targets in front of him as opposed to the current one.

Perhaps even a 4-3-3 with Podolski, Giroud and Ozil up front (Ozil withdrawn into the #10 spot) and 3 of Santi, Flamini, Ramsey, Wilshere, Arteta and Chamberlain (with Chamberlain possibly instead moving forward and providing cover for Giroud or Podolski) comprising the midfield.

Crazy? If it ain't broke don't fix it? What about 3 at the back (pick one of Kosc/Mert to play central and Sagna/Gibbs flanking) with Flamini in [gasp] a sweeper role in partnership with Arteta/Wilshere in a modified 3-2-3-2 or behind the "attacking midfielders in a 3-1-4-2 that might look like this:

    Sagna Kosc/Mert Gibbs
    Flamini
    Arteta/Wilshere
    Chamberlain Santi
    Ozil
    Giroud Podolski

    Absolutely bonkers?

wenger wont change from the 4-2-3-1 I think...

      Szczesny
      Sagna Mert Kos Gibbs
      Flamini Wilshere
      Rosicky Ozil Cazorla
      Giroud

that is what I think wenger will go with, however I would play chamberlain over wilshere...podolski should come off the bench for giroud when the game is a bit more open because he is only good in counter attack situations

Yes its mental. Pellegrini doesnt care about conceded goals but he still plays with 2 in front.

We can play with more attacking impetus with the same formation and different personell who play it differently.

Having seen City toil against Norwich and Chelsea recently in the league, I was really happy to see Fernandinho back last night.

I thought City were unlucky not to have scored and although they deserved to concede, they did look like they were able to deal with the threat of Barca for the majority of the game and were only undone on 3 or 4 occasions, 2 of which led to goals (1 unfairly offside) and a lapse of concentration late of to allow Alves through on goal.

If they don't manage to go through in the champions league, Aguero, Kompany/Zaba plus one of Silva, Toure or perhaps Nasri will be delicious from GW31 onwards!

Indeed. a 12-point hit would be made up in points over the last 8 GWs, although I hope they have a GW34 match as a GW37 triple would give people plenty of time to get their players in and those with a WC would lose their advantage

I've been trying to figure out if Kompany is worth the extra over Zab.

Kompany is more nailed on and has some goal threat of his own. But BAPs will only come with low scorelines and with a fully fit first XI I don't see lots of those. Zab has loads of threat but with Richards in the picture and fixture congestion, he might miss a few games.

      Any advice?

I honestly think that Zaba is nailed-on in that team and, when both play the same amount of minutes, Zaba is the better option, but in the event that I'm wrong, I'm willing to go with the safety of Kompany and hope for a goal and some extra bonus over Zaba.

        It could go either way!

            😆

It's impossible to call. Any advantage Zaba has could quickly be lost by a single start for Richards in a game against a more favourable opponent where City keep a cleanie. Impossible to say, sorry!

I guess which one you pick also depends on your position in your MLs.

If your leading, go with whoever everyone else is going with and who has the highest ownership.

I don't think there are any priorities this week, but might be worth transferring your way towards GW28 and GW29; In GW29 you will probably need a new striker, but wouldn't necessarily make that move today.

How about AJ out for someone this week and hold the other free?

Am I right in thinking 3-5-2 is probably the best starting formation each week for Ultimate FPL?

Reason being is if you play 3-4-3 you're then stuck with your 3 strikers if they all do well.. In this first GW, this could include having a combination of Suarez/Sturridge/Ade on the bench for example. Mids, especially punty ones, are surely a lot more likely to blank.. A 3-5-2 giving you the option of taking them out for another mid, a 3rd striker or even a defender.. As well as still being able to replace striker for striker and def for def..

I made a bit of a mistake on the WC and opted for a southampton/west ham rotation in defence (WIN), but loaded up on yoshida/reid (FAIL).

It hasn't been that much of an issue, because yoshida has been playing and southampton are keeping cleanies, but the return of lovren threatens my team.

I can put this lot out for 29 without making any transfers, but I have two frees and 1.3 in the bank....

But there aren't many options I'm mad about for 29. Sort of feel like rolling these frees through to after the blanks, but obviously have one I have to use or lose each week... I should cash out on AJ this week, right? Then maybe sort out a keeper next week, then Kos to someone in 29?? Sound like a plan?

    boruc, kelvin
    baines, koscielny, reid, bardsley, yoshida
    hazard, mata, silva, adam, noone
    suarez, sturridge, adebayor

    1FT
    1.3M

I am thinking about the following:

    GW27:

yoshida --> chambers (pending news on the return of lovren)

    GW28:

reid --> olsson (reid didn't make the return I had hoped for and norwich have two ok fixtures)
perhaps silva --> willian (for a -4, so TBC)

I guess in summary, I have looked at:

        - goal threat, calculated using the ICT index in the member stats area of this website
        - the average position of suarez since the return of sturridge
        - forthcoming double gameweek for RVP
        - two good games for liverpool before I bring RVP in
        - as RVP is 13.6 and suarez is 13.4, there are always opportunities to bring him back - even if it's just to take advantages of certain fixtures; especially as both are unlikely to rise, we should always have this option

See, this is the problem with these blanks - very few interesting options and I'm not sure I want to spend transfers dropping good players in favour of a few 2 pointers before getting the good players back again.

I'm going to just live with a rubbish gameweek (and in all likelihood won't drop many places) and plan for life after blank-a-geddon instead.

I think you'll have some issues in GW 29. No GK, only 3 defenders, two mids and one striker if I'm not wrong?

So maybe I should get rid of Bardsley, Navas in Sterling for two hits and bring in Demel, Nolan and Puncheon/Ledley/Ince or something like that?

I wouldn't take a hit this round, wait for next GW and then decide what to do.

With the help of a hit, I can get out nine for GW29, enough?

I think many are in a worse situation, so it's not that bad. Several hits won't be worth it so yeah, I'd play 9 instead of taking more hits to play 10/11.
