Yesterday we took a look at the teams with Strong fixtures on the horizon for the next four to six Gameweeks. Today we turn the tables and assess those with testing schedules – three of the top four contenders offer less promising looking fixtures, whilst a short-term Wearside exodus may be on the cards as the cups play havoc with our best-laid plans:

Sunderland

sunderland27

Gus Poyet has been earning himself admirers on Wearside, gradually turning round the Black Cats’ fortunes with some increasingly impressive displays. Having steered them from the basement to a place within sight of safety, he may soon see that work undone by the caprice of the fixture list. The next three Gameweeks contain a trip to Arsenal and two blanks, a schedule that may see Fantasy managers unload any Sunderland assets in favour of alternatives with more points potential.

Vito Mannone has been something of a hero since taking over the reins from Keiren Westwood, with no fewer than five double-figure hauls, but few will be investing right now. Likewise, Adam Johnson’s sudden burst into life in Gameweek 21 made him an overnight star among Fantasy managers but these fixtures signal a temporary hiatus for his output – investors will surely return later, though, with Sunderland set for three (as yet unscheduled) doubles from Gameweek 30 onwards.

Arsenal

arsenal27

A sudden wobble in form could not have come at a worse time for Arsene Wenger’s team as they prepare for an extended period of taxing games. The next fixture (SUN) is plum enough but, after that, a trip to Stoke and a blank Gameweek 29 precedes showdowns with four of the current top six.

Fantasy managers have been harvesting clean sheets and bonus points from Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny for some weeks now but these fixtures suggest there are fallow times to come and many will be eyeing up exit routes. Arsenal’s midfield, once the scene of such riches, has fallen on hard times lately and, whilst Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has announced his return to first team action with three goals this month, a punt doesn’t look advisable right now. Olivier Giroud’s form had returned slightly but, again, such fixtures don’t warrant investment.

Liverpool

liverpool27

A resounding win over Arsenal at Anfield, followed up by a last-gasp triumph at Fulham have emphasised the credibility of Brendan Rodgers’ top four aspirations. However, for Fantasy managers, the pickings look a little slimmer in light of the fixture list. The next six Gameweeks include a blank, trips to Southampton and Man United and a home game against Tottenham, though of course a future double Gameweek sweetens the deal a little.

Recently the so-called SAS (Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge) has been reaping rewards as Liverpool demolish opponents without mercy. Now owners of the SAS are faced with a difficult conundrum – do they hold the pair or sacrifice one of them for a striker with better prospects? And, if the latter, which one? Suarez was the early-season Fantasy colossus but has recently been outgunned by his partner. It’s a tough call and one that may define many season finishes. Whilst the Reds defence looks a no-go area, Steven Gerrard’s spot-kick and set-piece duties and Raheem Sterling’s budget appeal are likely to be enough for owners to hold for the time being.

BE WARY OF

Man City
The Etihad treatment room may be emptying following untimely injuries to several key players but City’s domestic cup commitments will keep investors away for now. For, whilst their schedule is relatively promising, Manuel Pellegrini’s men have two upcoming blanks to contend with, making their stars expensive benchwarmers. Sergio Aguero is widely expected to return from injury over the next week or two and will be on the radar if he can prove his fitness. Long-term owners of Yaya Toure may grudgingly hold lest they lose out on huge amounts of value but other City assets whose prices have not risen quite so substantially can expect to see sales. After the blanks, though, Pellegrini’s side will have three extra games to play, including one confirmed double Gameweek, a mouth-watering prospect, despite inevitable rotation.

Stoke
Hardly a source of great Fantasy profit this term, few would be considering Stoke players were it not for the fact that they are one of only a few teams with fixtures in both Gameweek 28 and 29. The Potters may have entered a few nervous radars as possible sticking-plasters for thin squads but a quick look at the next two fixtures should inspire caution, at least in the short term. Back-to-back clashes with City and Arsenal suggest that any Charlie Adam-shaped ideas should be exercised at the last minute. However, their excellent fixtures from Gameweek 29 onwards hints that, if he can pick up where he left off against Man United, the Scot might possibly be a worthwhile mid-price differential.

Tottenham
Tim Sherwood’s team are still doing the business, capped emphatically by their recent drubbing of Newcastle at St James’ Park. While they have a nice couple of fixtures up next and an all-important match in Gameweek 29, their appeal is somewhat lessened by the fact that they travel to the Bridge that weekend before squaring up to Arsenal, Southampton and Liverpool. Such fixtures hardly inspire confidence and a common plan for anyone holding born-again Togolese sensation Emmanuel Adebayor will be to get out after the Chelsea game. Their defence has proven more resilient than many expected, with a respectable four clean sheets from the last eight games, but those fixtures don’t look promising and investing at this point looks inadvisable.

When the DGW's come around will people be looking to ditch good FPL players like Lallana, Hazard and Adebayor for players who have the doubles, even if it is difficult to get the ditched players back due to value lost?.

yes chelsea are a big team as are united and spurs but most dont play

but with regards to this - i think we need to find a happy medium some dgwers like 6
and some players who are essential every week like hazard.

If not losing huge values it's a no-brainer adding in midfielders and strikers as long as you avoid bookings prone players.

Simple choice to make when you can't put out close to 11 and effectively it's a 2 pt hit with a potential for profit.

Big question is where the tipping point is. For me it's no more than one hit for every two players missing.

What are Eriksen owners doing? All 5.2% of you! Hauled off before 60 and then no minutes in the last 2 games. Was this fatique...wondering whether to drop for Ince?

1 have 2FT and 4.1m in the bank. My team is currently:

    Mannone / Boruc

    Kos / Vlaar / Azpil / Chambers / Ward

    Haz / Yaya / Eriksen / Noone / Mata

    Suarez / Eto'o (don't ask) / JRod

I'm checking out the Thursday match. Ideal scenario IMO is coming off the bench and doing well. I'm hoping it was just fatigue, I don't think he warrants an FT since they are very precious right now and he has a game in GW29.

If I were you, I'd focus on mr. Eto'o instead of Eriksen. Eto'o to Ade or Sturridge sounds pretty good to me... even with the blank for Sturr.

      Cheers both.

Really frustrating. Brought in Eto'o instead of Sturridge last week 🙁 I'd hate to get rid of him knowing he also has a GW 29 fixture and Fulham GW 28 - rotation depending.

Totally forgot about Thursday though, so thanks for that.

Try not to let what transfers you did earlier influence you too much 🙂 He's a rotation risk at best, I think Torres is the preferred striker and he has started more games than Eto'o when fit.

I think it means the opponent is not very good. That doesn't take into account that Cardiff and Fulham are worse then said opponents.

Cardiff v Fulham = strong fixture for both.
Liverpool v Man City = weak fixture for both.

I disagree with this way of thinking.

Totally agree. It identifies when the 'best' time to invest in a club is. Whether a player from that particular club is worth it is up to the user and rightly so. I simply think that the ticker is misleading when sorted as in a 'good' run of fixtures Fulham might be top which would seem to indicate they are a good source of points when they are clearly not.

Just to reiterate Dogba's response, these articles aren't meant to be a definitive statement of the best fantasy players to buy right now. The closest you'll get to that is the Watchlist.

They're about one dimension of the game - teams with easy and hard opponents. We say " here are teams with easy opponents and if that floats your boat, here are the main players to consider". You make up your own mind about whether the other factors make it worthwhile.

But I would note that people said similar things a few weeks ago when we highlighted West Ham's fixtures, right after their darkest time being thumped by Forest. They went on to grab a load of clean sheets and Nolan scored a heap of goals. Likewise there was a lot of mocking comments like yours when we put Palace in The Strong just before Christmas. They went and grabbed a load of clean sheets and became 'essential'.

Are you saying that Liverpool and Arsenal have good fixtures?

Palace was one that went right. I've seen many a terrible team get listed as having seeing fixtures and it didn't work out that way.

How about differentiating between strong attacking/defensive fixtures? Attacking options from the lower down teams are rarely appealing, though the odd filler keeper/defender could be.

When it comes to Cardiff and Fulham, I just don't see them anywhere near my team regardless if who they're playing. I see all of their fixtures as difficult due to my opinion of the teams being nailed in for relegation and our results regardless if their opponents... unless it's each other.

        No offence sir.

I like the frisking the fixtures article too, but if I see Fulham/Cardiff etc I just ignore it as I know they simply won't deliver the returns to be worth it. Similarly I compensate for the top teams...

In reality the ticker should be altered to take into account the quality of not only the opponent but also the team for which the fixtures are for.

You could look at it that way, but I think this would not account for the pricing of the players in better teams in a good way. Cardiff players are obviously a bit cheaper than City players, I think it's a question of value not the absolute expected points when looking at the ticker. That's how I've already read it anyways.

I still think you are misinterpreting the point of the article.

We all would love articles differentiating between attacking and defensive fixtures, but realistically FFS has limited resources and this isn't where I would put them.

No offence taken, Breaders. But every week I see these same misunderstandings of the articles and I thought I'd try to set the record straight.

Regarding splitting attack and defence, that is actually something we're looking at. The difficulty is that ordering the Ticker that way is a members only feature so the article would have to be members only but we'd still want an unrestricted frisking article as well.

As Arsenal have Bayern tomorrow I think there's a good chance he'll start, and its a good fixture.

Nolan without Carroll isn't too appealing, especially against Southampton, who make an away game just like a home game in terms of style of play

Having gone through all the fixtues, i will have only 2 players not playing gameweek 28 which bench can cover nicely, then gameweek 29 i have 4 missing with the 3 bench players having nice fixtures so will only have to make 1 or 2 transfers over the period, happy days 😀

Current Team. Looking to set things up for the coming blanks.

    Mannone - Marshall
    Koscielny - Coleman - Clyne - Olsson - Ward
    Hazard - Y Toure - Silva - Oscar - Januzaj
    Suarez - Struddige - Chamakh

Obvious outs seem to be Mannone - Y Toure - Silva considering they have 2 blanks.
Does this seem wise? No value lost on the City pair.

Clyne - Oscar - Januzaj are at risk of rotation also. Not looking good for the coming weeks...

Some advice on patching this lot up would be much appreciated lads!

Ok. I think you're gonna have to keep Oscar and hope he plays. I'd do a simple Clyne to Chambers this week.

Next week you should probably take a -4 and ditch Yaya, Silva and Chamakh. The following week replace Januzaj, and perhaps another hit to field 11

What has happened to Clyne? He always pops up with an assist when he plays! Was a great cheap way into the Southampton Defence.

Oscar is the least of my worries when I think about it.

I agree with you all with Chamakh. The reason for me getting him on the WC was freeing up some funds as he is benched most weeks. (He has got me a goal and an assist since and guaranteed a start)

It does look that way when I look at his history. Thank you.

Clyne to Chambers and Januzaj to Ince/Noone may be this weeks moves. Januzaj deserves a start though I feel.

No way would I ditch Mannone when you have a backup keeper and he's got THREE DGWs potentially upcoming.

Yaya or Silva out could free up some cash to upgrade Chamakh, who I don't think is a very good pick. On the other hand, Jan isn't playing at ALL so he might be the first place I'd look. At least Silva and Yaya will play eventually and they have 3 DGWs coming up.

I'd look to fix Cham and Jan first, especially if you have some cash in the bank. JRod and Ince/Punch maybe?

Ince is looking like a decent enough punt.

Not too sure on replacing Silva or Yaya this week as I may miss out on them getting some decent points at home (obviously this could change after tonight's game)

Replacing Januzaj may be the best move this GW (for future gains) even though he SHOULD get a start!

Good value, yes, but they won't bring you many points.

I'd keep Motta, ditch Matuidi and get a cheapo bench player (Ndinga - 4.0) to free up funds to upgrade your midfield a bit.

You defence looks very expensive. Don't think there will be many CS. Maybe downgrade somebody to get Di Maria?

No dates. It just says 4 transfers gw 1, 4 gw 2, unlimited gw 3. But I really think that means you can make 4 transfers before gw 1, 4 before gw 2, and unlimited before gw 3. Think I've just confused myself though.

There was a good post on here yesterday about this.

Not 100% confirmed, but the FA doesn't want to annoy FIFA by moving these fixtures to later in the gameweek (they were heavily fined doing this a couple of years ago) when they have champions league on. So it looks like they will be moved to a later date when there is no champions league games.
