Yesterday we took a look at the teams with Strong fixtures on the horizon for the next four to six Gameweeks. Today we turn the tables and assess those with testing schedules – three of the top four contenders offer less promising looking fixtures, whilst a short-term Wearside exodus may be on the cards as the cups play havoc with our best-laid plans:

Sunderland

sunderland27

Gus Poyet has been earning himself admirers on Wearside, gradually turning round the Black Cats’ fortunes with some increasingly impressive displays. Having steered them from the basement to a place within sight of safety, he may soon see that work undone by the caprice of the fixture list. The next three Gameweeks contain a trip to Arsenal and two blanks, a schedule that may see Fantasy managers unload any Sunderland assets in favour of alternatives with more points potential.

Vito Mannone has been something of a hero since taking over the reins from Keiren Westwood, with no fewer than five double-figure hauls, but few will be investing right now. Likewise, Adam Johnson’s sudden burst into life in Gameweek 21 made him an overnight star among Fantasy managers but these fixtures signal a temporary hiatus for his output – investors will surely return later, though, with Sunderland set for three (as yet unscheduled) doubles from Gameweek 30 onwards.

Arsenal

arsenal27

A sudden wobble in form could not have come at a worse time for Arsene Wenger’s team as they prepare for an extended period of taxing games. The next fixture (SUN) is plum enough but, after that, a trip to Stoke and a blank Gameweek 29 precedes showdowns with four of the current top six.

Fantasy managers have been harvesting clean sheets and bonus points from Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny for some weeks now but these fixtures suggest there are fallow times to come and many will be eyeing up exit routes. Arsenal’s midfield, once the scene of such riches, has fallen on hard times lately and, whilst Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has announced his return to first team action with three goals this month, a punt doesn’t look advisable right now. Olivier Giroud’s form had returned slightly but, again, such fixtures don’t warrant investment.

Liverpool

liverpool27

A resounding win over Arsenal at Anfield, followed up by a last-gasp triumph at Fulham have emphasised the credibility of Brendan Rodgers’ top four aspirations. However, for Fantasy managers, the pickings look a little slimmer in light of the fixture list. The next six Gameweeks include a blank, trips to Southampton and Man United and a home game against Tottenham, though of course a future double Gameweek sweetens the deal a little.

Recently the so-called SAS (Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge) has been reaping rewards as Liverpool demolish opponents without mercy. Now owners of the SAS are faced with a difficult conundrum – do they hold the pair or sacrifice one of them for a striker with better prospects? And, if the latter, which one? Suarez was the early-season Fantasy colossus but has recently been outgunned by his partner. It’s a tough call and one that may define many season finishes. Whilst the Reds defence looks a no-go area, Steven Gerrard’s spot-kick and set-piece duties and Raheem Sterling’s budget appeal are likely to be enough for owners to hold for the time being.

BE WARY OF

Man City
The Etihad treatment room may be emptying following untimely injuries to several key players but City’s domestic cup commitments will keep investors away for now. For, whilst their schedule is relatively promising, Manuel Pellegrini’s men have two upcoming blanks to contend with, making their stars expensive benchwarmers. Sergio Aguero is widely expected to return from injury over the next week or two and will be on the radar if he can prove his fitness. Long-term owners of Yaya Toure may grudgingly hold lest they lose out on huge amounts of value but other City assets whose prices have not risen quite so substantially can expect to see sales. After the blanks, though, Pellegrini’s side will have three extra games to play, including one confirmed double Gameweek, a mouth-watering prospect, despite inevitable rotation.

Stoke
Hardly a source of great Fantasy profit this term, few would be considering Stoke players were it not for the fact that they are one of only a few teams with fixtures in both Gameweek 28 and 29. The Potters may have entered a few nervous radars as possible sticking-plasters for thin squads but a quick look at the next two fixtures should inspire caution, at least in the short term. Back-to-back clashes with City and Arsenal suggest that any Charlie Adam-shaped ideas should be exercised at the last minute. However, their excellent fixtures from Gameweek 29 onwards hints that, if he can pick up where he left off against Man United, the Scot might possibly be a worthwhile mid-price differential.

Tottenham
Tim Sherwood’s team are still doing the business, capped emphatically by their recent drubbing of Newcastle at St James’ Park. While they have a nice couple of fixtures up next and an all-important match in Gameweek 29, their appeal is somewhat lessened by the fact that they travel to the Bridge that weekend before squaring up to Arsenal, Southampton and Liverpool. Such fixtures hardly inspire confidence and a common plan for anyone holding born-again Togolese sensation Emmanuel Adebayor will be to get out after the Chelsea game. Their defence has proven more resilient than many expected, with a respectable four clean sheets from the last eight games, but those fixtures don’t look promising and investing at this point looks inadvisable.

    UCL Champions:

Cole or Aspi starts? thinking maybe small chance Cole has not been starting in PL, as he might be saved for CL? although last couple CL matches aspi also started.

PSG: Alex or Marquinhos starts? seems last couple of gws, its been one or the other.

    Punts over the next few weeks and also an updated version of when what games are likely to be played;

    Punts:

    Paulinho –
    Ownership: 5.2%
Fixtures (Next 5): nor, CAR, che, ARS, SOT
    Price: 6.6 million

Attacking returns in two out of his last three games and an assured fixture in Gameweek 29. Averaging 2.8 shots per game. Paulinho offers the most stability into the Spurs midfield that has three favourable fixtures – Norwich, Cardiff and Southampton – in the next 5.

    Charlie Adam – Ownership: 3.6%
Fixtures (Next 5): mcy, ARS, nor, WHM, avl
    Price: 5.8 million

With 7 goals and 3 assists to his name, and averaging 2 shots and 1.2 key passes per game.
Adam is certainly one of the more expensive investments into the Potters midfield. But with a favorable schedule after games against Manchester City and Arsenal, Adam could prove to be of excellent value.

    Martin Olsson – Ownership: 1.8%
Fixtures (Next 5): TOT, avl, STK, sot, SUN
    Price: 4.2 million

With three clean sheets in their last five games, favourable fixtures in both Gameweek 28 and 29, Olsson looks to be a bargain replacement for any non-playing defenders. Priced at just 4.2 million and the safest route into the Canaries defence, Olsson is certainly a budget friendly option.

Updated list of when what teams are likely to play when:

    A Fantasy Manager can presume the following;

    - Manchester City, Manchester United, Sunderland and Everton will have two fixtures in Gameweek 31.

    - Manchester City and Sunderland will have two fixtures in Gameweek 37.

    - The probability points towards Arsenal, Crystal Palace, Hull City, Swansea, West Brom and West Ham having two fixtures in Gameweek 31.

    - The probability points towards Aston Villa and Newcastle having two fixtures in Gameweek 34.

    - If the UEFA ruling is followed to the letter and Manchester City beat Wigan and Sunderland beat Brighton or Hull City in the FA Cup then both will have three games in Gameweek 37.

I'm really starting to think I'll drop part of SAS by gameweek 29-30. And I'm thinking it's gonna be Suarez. With City having 3 DGW in the last 9 I need to free up some cash for 3 City players the main one wallet-hitter being Aguero. Dropping Suarez pays for Aguero plus a little extra.

I'm looking at Liverpool's schedule for the rest of the season:
    29 Blank
    30 @United
    31 @Cardiff
    32 Spurs
    33 @West Ham
    34 ManCity
    35 @Norwich*
    36 Chelsea
    37 @Palace
    38 Newcastle
    (+DBL gameweek vs Sunderland somewhere)

Really not a good schedule for Pool. And nowhere near say Aguero on 3 DGWs. I think Sturridge as coverage is good enough for these. Granted it is still tempting to have Suarez for Norwich... And if Pool's DGW falls even GW 34+, this may need a little rethinking.

The way it looks, my options for Gameweek 30 money wise seem to be (I run a 3-4-3 so Ade can be Ade or any forward 8-below):

    A. Suarez, Sturridge, Ade, Yaya, Any City DF (Kompany, 2.5 In Bank)
    B. Suarez, Sturridge, Aguero, Silva, Kolarov/Nasty (0.5-9 IB)
    C. Aguero, Sturridge, Ade, Yaya, Any City DF (Kompany, 2.9 IB)
    D. Suarez, Aguero, Ade, Yaya, Any City DF(Kompany, 0.1 IB)

Yeah I think Spurs was a fluke too.

With form since Sturridge back (6 matches Sturridge 6 goals 3 assists, Suarez 3 goals 4 assists), that Suarez hasn't scored against the other top 3 (4 matches, 2 assists), and his Away form isn't near that of his home form, I'm more looking at it as he has 7 iffy matches GW30 on.

The Aways (but Norwich), Spurs, City, Chelsea.

I'm gonna try to keep him in my lineup if I can.
I think the question is if it is worth keeping SS w/ Aguero and not being able to afford Yaya or a nailed on City DF through this same time?

    Which is best?

    a) Ince for gw28&29, then any striker for gw 29 except rvp (so either Lambert or Caroll as I see it)

    b) Jeninak for gw28&29, and rvp for gw 29

Then during GW 29 I will wildcard and load up on city, with some arsenal and AJ thrown in

UCL Champions, for those playing it or interested:

Cole or Aspi starts? thinking maybe small chance Cole has not been starting in PL, as he might be saved for CL? although last couple CL matches aspi also started.

PSG: Alex or Marquinhos starts? seems last couple of gws, its been one or the other

RGarcia: great form, is he starting? seems bit of unknown as he sometimes is benched for Villa. and in midfiled seems Turan & koke start. Another problem (good one!) is Diego is back to atleti! hes an insane player, who was the brains being Atleti winning Europa Cup yrs bak w/ Falcao.

BArca: Adriano or Alba starts: seems similar to Kolarov situation. half of the gws one starts. last gw adriano started & scored.

Yeh, but Garcia seems the safer option though (having worked in the Athletico system all season), and I think in a big CL game Simeone is the type to go of security in system over the more talented Diego.

Midfield has been layed w/ Koke & Turan and def Mids Gabi & Suarez.

Garcia has been in rotation w/ Villa...some gw he starts, other he does not.

Diego has a spot in that squad. thats why they brot him bak on loan. So Simeone will have to rotate that team/ What is keeping me off Gacia is that Koke has started in la liga gws and garcia or villa start.

Diego is proven when he won both Europa w/ Santos w/ Robinho Brasilian Cup.

I don't think it makes that much of a big deal. I played mine early and I'd say I've got over 100 points now than what I would have if I never used it. Of course though I would rather I didn't have to use it early, but sometimes needs must.

          10 players in GW29 = 5 x DGW in my squad without a game.

3 x FT removes 3 of the 10 with a single GW, makes them DGW players = 8 DGW.

You should be able to do something similar.

The way mine is going atm I am able to carry 1 FT over so I always have 2. This should allow me to get 3 x City in for GW31 without a hit. If more DGWs appear in GW31 a hit or 2 may be needed
