With Gameweek 28 safely navigated, we turn our attentions to the stats that matter in the Sky game as the Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries and current market trends come under analysis. As always, we also look ahead to the forthcoming fixtures, offering our preferred captain setup for Gameweek 29.

Gameweek 28 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below is a match-by-match breakdown of the players who won the plaudits from the Sky Sports reporters last time out, earning five additional points for the Man-of-the-Match award.

FixtureMoTM
Chelsea vs EvertonGareth Barry
Arsenal vs SunderlandOlivier Giroud
Cardiff City vs Hull CityNikica Jelavic
Man City vs Stoke CityYaya Toure
West Brom vs FulhamJohnny Heitinga
West Ham vs SouthamptonMark Noble
Crystal Palace vs Man UnitedPatrice Evra
Liverpool vs Swansea CityJordan Henderson
Newcastle vs Aston VillaLoic Remy
Norwich City vs TottenhamRobert Snodgrass

Midfielders claimed five out of a possible ten awards with forwards picking up three and defenders two. Yaya Toure collected his fourth award of the season and in combination with his goal, tackling and passing bonus earned an impressive haul of 16 points – justifying our tip for captain last week. A multitude of players earned their third MoTM award of the season – Jordan Henderson, Olivier Giroud, Gareth Barry and Robert Snodgrass were the players in question.

Gameweek 28 Bonus Points

Six goalkeepers managed five saves or more this week – David De Gea was the top keeper with a total of seven stops and a clean sheet. Vito Mannone again picked up bonus points and sits at the top of the bonus rankings with 18 additional points to his name.

In defence, a total of seven players gathered bonus, six for tackles and one for passes completed – City centre-back Martin Demichelis was the only defender to achieve passing bonus and has managed to achieve it in 50% of his games so far. Angel Rangel, Chico and Joel Ward are the top bonus point earners with 20 extra points so far.

In midfield, 24 players earned bonus points – 12 for tackling and 13 for passes. As previously mentioned, Yaya Toure was the main man, picking up passing and tackling bonus – he has now taken top spot in the bonus rankings with 36 additional points.
Two forwards managed to earn passing bonus – Wayne Rooney one of the more likely forwards to be in with a shout for bonus and somewhat surprisingly Lukas Podolski were the two playmaking from the front.

A reminder that Fantasy Football Scout members can access all the data regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Top Transfers Out

NameTeamValue% of Managers
NegredoMan City8.68.83%
OscarChelsea7.66.78%
OzilArsenal8.85.83%
RamseyArsenal5.82.72%
Van PersieMan United102.34%

Injuries and frustration sums up the top five out with most of the featured players suffering from either ‘knocks and niggles’ or a dip in form. Robin Van Persie’s blank Gameweek has persuaded many to part company with the United forward.

Top Transfers In

NameTeamValue% of Managers
SturridgeLiverpool9.29.53%
AdebayorTottenham7.66.09%
GerrardLiverpool8.14.58%
SterlingLiverpool4.84.36%
HazardChelsea8.83.62%

Liverpool’s free scoring habit sees their assets most targeted this week with Daniel Sturridge, Steven Gerrard and Raheem Sterling all featuring in the top five. With quite a few teams suffering from ‘blank’ fixtures in the coming weeks, Fantasy managers are turning to the security of Eden Hazard and Emmanuel Adebayor, who, barring injury, look nailed on over this tricky period.

Gameweek 29 Proposed Captain Strategy

Looking ahead to the captaincy choices for Gameweek 29 we will have to settle for just two captains as there is no Monday night game this week.

Our Strategy:
Daniel Sturridge (Southampton Away) → Emmanuel Adebayor (Cardiff at Home)

For Saturday March 1, we have opted for the man in form – Daniel Sturridge, his somewhat selfish tendencies have resulted in him out scoring Luis Suarez in recent weeks and that trend looks set to continue at St Mary’s. If you’re after an alternative option Romelu Lukaku should return from injury this week and has a home fixture against West Ham.

For Sunday March 2, a switch to Emmanuel Adebayor looks the best option as they host a Cardiff City team in free fall. As an added bonus, he features on Saturday in Gameweek 30 away to Chelsea.

The Fantasy Football Scout League

Our own Fantasy Football Scout League is on top of the Private League rankings. With a £1,000 prize to the winner, you’d be mad not to get involved. To join, visit Sky Sports Fantasy Football and key in League Name: FFScout, League Code: 8000112.

Maybe keep him for one last week (GW29)
Then straight swap to Kun when he's back in GW30.
Everyone should be setting themselves up for Kun imho - he will be uber essential upon his return with City chasing the league & their struggles up front

I have a bit of a mess in midfield and probably need to free up a bit of cash at this point to rejig.

        Haz, Ox, Gerrard, Gnabry, Nolan
        Ade, VP, Suarez.

Neither Gnabry or Ox are nailed on and Nolan/Gerrard both have a blank week coming up so I've been thinking of going from Gnabry -> Snodgrass and VP -> Lambert

But Kolorov is first team starter now - he's a bargain at 6.0, let alone 5.0 Shirley?!
I didn't put brackets because, have you noticed, (as I have) how similar the first four letters of Kolorov's surname are to the first 4 letters of Yaya's brother Kolo? Its uncanny & quite funny I thought. Good times.

Could prove to be nothing but stubbornness if we all hold on if he goes another 2 or 3 weeks without scoring, his position has changed and if it affects his scores negatively then there's nothing we can do about it and people might end up being stubborn and holding on simply because of how he was doing without sturridge..

Having said that, I'm not getting rid any time soon 🙂
Was just wondering how long people will hold on to him.

    Help please,

My squad is below. I currently have 9 starter for GW28 & only 5 for GW29. [2FT 0.4 in bank]

    Boruc Davies
    Kolarov Koscielny Chico Chester Ward
    Mata Hazard Silva Ki Sterling
    Suarez Giroud Rvp

I really feel i need to act more with GW29 in mind. So my thinking is to swap Giroud for Ade this week & captain him. Also Ki must go as hes terrible when he has games let alone two blanks. I have 1 defender for next week so feel i need to drop Kolarov.

With this in mind please give your thoughts on the following transfers

KOLAROV KI GIROUD >>> AZPI DAVIS ADE

This will give me 11 for this week assuming everyone starts & 8 for GW29

Ha! Look out fans in the upper decks! Here comes a zinger. You know, about that Puncheon miss. I blame the ref a bit. Follow me here.....After the ball was placed and Puncheon walked back to set himself for the task at hand, as he turned around to face the goal, the ref walked into him. Gave him a pretty good bump in the jaw with his shoulder, I think it was. Anyone else notice that?

Is it better to double-up on Chelsea or Southampton for 29?

    e.g.

    Terry & Ivanovic

    or Fonte & Lovren

or just don't double up ?

You too mate. Usually when I double up it all goes bad haha! But with the lack of fixtures over the next few game weeks, thought having a couple of defenders who can score would be just as good as playing some git of a 4.5 midfielder.

I agree, have the same kind of experience on doubles.

And you're right they actually scored more than most of the mids/forwards of the teams involved in 29.

Double up on both. They both have relatively good fixtures and neither have blank weeks.

If you want to double up on only one, I'd pick Chelski since I'd rather have them away at Fulham than Southampton at home vs Liverpool.

        Thanks,

the idea is more for 29 than this week, at least I can afford to keep the Southampton players on the bench and in any case with the likes of Lovren there is a chance for a goal.

I guess you're right considering Fulham. Just then worried a bit about the Totenham match, they could easily concede.
