With Gameweek 28 safely navigated, we turn our attentions to the stats that matter in the Sky game as the Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries and current market trends come under analysis. As always, we also look ahead to the forthcoming fixtures, offering our preferred captain setup for Gameweek 29.

Gameweek 28 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below is a match-by-match breakdown of the players who won the plaudits from the Sky Sports reporters last time out, earning five additional points for the Man-of-the-Match award.

FixtureMoTM
Chelsea vs EvertonGareth Barry
Arsenal vs SunderlandOlivier Giroud
Cardiff City vs Hull CityNikica Jelavic
Man City vs Stoke CityYaya Toure
West Brom vs FulhamJohnny Heitinga
West Ham vs SouthamptonMark Noble
Crystal Palace vs Man UnitedPatrice Evra
Liverpool vs Swansea CityJordan Henderson
Newcastle vs Aston VillaLoic Remy
Norwich City vs TottenhamRobert Snodgrass

Midfielders claimed five out of a possible ten awards with forwards picking up three and defenders two. Yaya Toure collected his fourth award of the season and in combination with his goal, tackling and passing bonus earned an impressive haul of 16 points – justifying our tip for captain last week. A multitude of players earned their third MoTM award of the season – Jordan Henderson, Olivier Giroud, Gareth Barry and Robert Snodgrass were the players in question.

Gameweek 28 Bonus Points

Six goalkeepers managed five saves or more this week – David De Gea was the top keeper with a total of seven stops and a clean sheet. Vito Mannone again picked up bonus points and sits at the top of the bonus rankings with 18 additional points to his name.

In defence, a total of seven players gathered bonus, six for tackles and one for passes completed – City centre-back Martin Demichelis was the only defender to achieve passing bonus and has managed to achieve it in 50% of his games so far. Angel Rangel, Chico and Joel Ward are the top bonus point earners with 20 extra points so far.

In midfield, 24 players earned bonus points – 12 for tackling and 13 for passes. As previously mentioned, Yaya Toure was the main man, picking up passing and tackling bonus – he has now taken top spot in the bonus rankings with 36 additional points.
Two forwards managed to earn passing bonus – Wayne Rooney one of the more likely forwards to be in with a shout for bonus and somewhat surprisingly Lukas Podolski were the two playmaking from the front.

A reminder that Fantasy Football Scout members can access all the data regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Top Transfers Out

NameTeamValue% of Managers
NegredoMan City8.68.83%
OscarChelsea7.66.78%
OzilArsenal8.85.83%
RamseyArsenal5.82.72%
Van PersieMan United102.34%

Injuries and frustration sums up the top five out with most of the featured players suffering from either ‘knocks and niggles’ or a dip in form. Robin Van Persie’s blank Gameweek has persuaded many to part company with the United forward.

Top Transfers In

NameTeamValue% of Managers
SturridgeLiverpool9.29.53%
AdebayorTottenham7.66.09%
GerrardLiverpool8.14.58%
SterlingLiverpool4.84.36%
HazardChelsea8.83.62%

Liverpool’s free scoring habit sees their assets most targeted this week with Daniel Sturridge, Steven Gerrard and Raheem Sterling all featuring in the top five. With quite a few teams suffering from ‘blank’ fixtures in the coming weeks, Fantasy managers are turning to the security of Eden Hazard and Emmanuel Adebayor, who, barring injury, look nailed on over this tricky period.

Gameweek 29 Proposed Captain Strategy

Looking ahead to the captaincy choices for Gameweek 29 we will have to settle for just two captains as there is no Monday night game this week.

Our Strategy:
Daniel Sturridge (Southampton Away) → Emmanuel Adebayor (Cardiff at Home)

For Saturday March 1, we have opted for the man in form – Daniel Sturridge, his somewhat selfish tendencies have resulted in him out scoring Luis Suarez in recent weeks and that trend looks set to continue at St Mary’s. If you’re after an alternative option Romelu Lukaku should return from injury this week and has a home fixture against West Ham.

For Sunday March 2, a switch to Emmanuel Adebayor looks the best option as they host a Cardiff City team in free fall. As an added bonus, he features on Saturday in Gameweek 30 away to Chelsea.

The Fantasy Football Scout League

Our own Fantasy Football Scout League is on top of the Private League rankings. With a £1,000 prize to the winner, you’d be mad not to get involved. To join, visit Sky Sports Fantasy Football and key in League Name: FFScout, League Code: 8000112.

I've got Azpi as well, but Demel is a slight doubt with Everton away this week even if he is fit and has no match next week, so that makes sense. One of them will become Kompany for DGW depending on funds. I still have Adrian so not losing West Ham defence all together, but if there's one defence I'd feel comfortable doubling on, it's Chelsea's

Adrian and Mannone for less than 9.0 looks an absolute steal given West Ham's defensive form, Mannone's penchant for double figure hauls and him having 3 DGWs minimum

Too perfect to be true it seems. Copy paste of my dilemma posted a couple of days ago.

          ***
Can a couple of you pretend this was your team and say what you'd do this week. I have no idea what to do and am inclined to keep the keepers. I'd offer options but don't have any.

Currently have 9 for GW29, so Evans and Mata stay at least until then. I think Eriksen will start this weekend so am keeping.

2 FTs, will only use 1 this week.

          Adrian (Mannone*)
          Terry Mert Azpi (Chambers Evans*)
          Hazard Lallana Eriksen Sterling (Mata*)
          Suarez Sturridge Ade
          ***

Mert out to someone, or Azpi to Cahill is all I can think of.

Norwich, 4 CS in last 4 home games including v City and Spurs. 10 CS last season, 10 already this season and only Everton (GW1) and Chelsea (GW7) have scored more than 1 at Norwich. Of course there is the problem of their last 4 weeks

Ah, ok. Had me worried then!

I'd lose Eriksen in that case. Although the options aren't great, I think it's a more productive sideways move.

I'm just doing Demel to Cahill, keeping Yaya and my 2nd free. The like of Adam and Snodgrass are just so unappealing. The last time I tried the trick of taking a player out for 2 blanks before getting him back, the player I got in got a grand total of 4 points. 4 points and 2 transfers, not worth it IMO

I see FPL are pulling another flanker by unflagging Aguero before he's even kicked a ball.
It used to be said, often, flags are not removed before a player has played. This year all rules seem to be out the window. Sometimes it applies, sometimes not. Sometimes players are protected sometimes not. It is a very unsatisfactory situation.

If I could be bothered about FPL any more I might email FPL Towers to ask them what the new rules are. But I can't..

Agree fully. Repost from t'other day.

"Big thanks to FPL for changing Evans flag from red to orange based on absolutely nothing, therefore quickening the price drops. He's still out and we've not heard otherwise."

They seem to be doing it a lot this season without any good reason. RvP should be about 12.0 by now, but they kept changing his flag when he got close to dropping. Kun should be less than 12 and now they've removed his flag. They also seem to decide who to protect from a rise and who to allow, even though protection after flag removal should be universal

All seems to be based on Manager's rumours and players saying how they feel on Twatter and Arse-Book.

It makes sense to go from Red flag to Yellow flag. But it would be better if there's more consistency.

Best front 8 for the doubles?

    Currently looking at:
    AJ, Nolan, Yaya, Mata
    Aguero, Sturridge, Suarez

    Can I do better?

    Silva to:
    A Adam
    B Lallana
    C Snodgrass
Tempted to do A IMO as it's a differential punt and I'll be dropping my WC ahead of GW 30/31 to take advantage of the doubles an run in so Adam will likely be ditched then.

Already have Lambert but no Stoke or Norwich coverage.

    Help appreciated, thanks

So had a minor nightmare last night. Plan was to ditch Yaya for Snod for two weeks. But I couldn't log in last night and already lost 0.1m on him (so need him to drop another 0.3 for me to re-buy at what I sold him).

Do we think Yaya will drop 0.3 between now and GW 30?

Cheers Guns - if I'm to bring in Kun for the DGW (only if he's proved fit by then) then Yaya will have to be the makeweight. I can ride a price drop on Yaya, so was leaning towards A purely as it gives more time to assess the options for GW29.

I lose nothing now as bought him for £10.1 - I've a bit of money to play with in my current plans so can take a 0.1-0.2 further drop with no problem. What do you think - worth saving the FT and assess after the w'ends games? Nothing worse than bringing in someone for GW29 and they get injured.

Hello! Am I good to go for this gw?

    Marshall
    Koscielny, Fonte, Azpilicueta, Ward
    Hazard, Puncheon, Lallana
    Sturridge (C), Suarez, JayRod

    subs: Mannone, Demel, Yaya, Mata
    No FT, 0.3 ITB

Planning to do Koscielny -> Olsson for GW 29
    JayRod -> Aguero GW 30
    Mata -> Mirallas GW 30
    Lallana -> Sterling GW 30

    How does this sound?
