Laurent Koscielny is fit for Arsenal’s vital Champions League clash with Bayern, though Kieran Gibbs is ruled out. Spurs appeal Younes Kaboul’s weekend dismissal, Michu is back in training ahead of Swansea’s game against West Brom, Fernando Torres could be sidelined for a fortnight, whilst Fabricio Coloccini is poised to return for Newcastle’s trip to Fulham this weekend:

Koscielny Back for Bayern Showdown

Arsenal were handed an injury boost yesterday evening after the influential centre-half was passed fit to face Bayern Munich in tonight’s Champions League clash. Kieran Gibbs is ruled out with the ankle problem that forced him off in Saturday’s FA Cup win over Everton, though Arsene Wenger reckons the left-back “has a chance” of returning for Sunday’s derby with Spurs.

The Scout Says: Whilst the update on Koscielny may be good news for the Gunners, many of his 10% Fantasy Premier League (FPL) owners are already looking to offload in light of Arsenal’s tough upcoming schedule. Wenger’s side have managed just two clean sheets in the last six and, whilst they have a home clash against Swansea as part of double Gameweek 31, their upcoming fixtures – Spurs, Chelsea, City and Everton in the next four, followed immediately by a blank Gameweek 34 – could barely be more off-putting. Certainly, the schedule does take a turn for the better in Gameweek 35 but there are plenty more enticing options around to deter investment in Wenger’s main men for the time being.

Michu Close to Swansea Comeback

The midfielder is closing in on a return to action after returning to training during the recent break in Swansea’s domestic schedule. Club physio Richard Buchanan rolled out an update yesterday, with reports in the local press suggesting Michu may even earn game time in Saturday’s crucial home encounter with West Brom:

“Michu joined the squad for training on Friday and Saturday. He will do gym and pool work for the next two days as part of his graded return, before joining the group again for training on Wednesday. He has had a good response since having the injection a fortnight ago. We have still got to manage his return carefully, but he is champing at the bit to play as soon as possible.”

The Scout Says: Fantasy managers will understandably be wary over this news after the Spaniard broke down just two games into a return from injury earlier in the season. With knee and ankle problems hampering his performances, Michu notched twice in the first 10 Gameweeks before spending time on the sidelines – his comeback in early December proved all too brief and has seen him miss Swansea’s last 12 league matches after undergoing surgery. If he can prove his fitness, though, the remaining schedule bodes well. Granted, back-to-back trips to Everton and Arsenal in Gameweek 31 are hardly enticing but with Norwich, Hull, Newcastle and Villa in the subsequent five, Garry Monk’s side certainly have the fixtures to boost their survival bid.

Spurs Appeal Kaboul Dismissal

Tottenham have lodged an appeal with the FA over the Frenchman’s dismissal in Saturday’s loss at Chelsea, with Kaboul currently facing a one-match ban for denying a goalscoring opportunity.

The Scout Says: Tim Sherwood has real worries in the centre-half position as a weekend derby clash against Arsenal edges nearer. Vlad Chiriches is still some way off returning from a back injury, whilst the Spurs boss admitted it will need “a miracle” for skipper Michael Dawson to recover in time for Thursday’s Europa League clash against Benfica, after he limped out of the Stamford Bridge mauling with a hamstring injury. At present, then, only Jan Vertonghen is 100% available for the Gunners showdown, though it’s noticebale that Michael Oliver, the referee who dismissed Kaboul, hasn’t been handed a Premier League fixture this weekend – perhaps an indication that the ban will be overturned.

Torres Faces Groin Scans

Jose Mourinho confirmed the Spaniard is set for scans on the groin problem that forced him out of the weekend clash with Tottenham. Originally named in the XI, Torres picked up the injury during the warm-up and, amid fears he could be sidelined for a couple of weeks, the Chelsea manager went on to praise his other forwards:

“Ba is very important. I proved earlier in the season that I was right to have three strikers because when one is injured you need the other two. It’s one of the best decisions we made to keep three strikers. It’s good for him that he scored. They’re not the winning goals but they’re goals and they give confidence. He played for 90 minutes for his national team midweek and he came back and scored two, so that’s good. In the second half Eto’o was brilliant. Vertonghen’s mistake was only a mistake because Eto’o was there. He’s not super-fast like he was 10 years ago, so he needs to be close to the goal, he needs his feet in the box and he’s very intelligent in the way he moves.”

The Scout Says: Eto’o’s goal and assist against Spurs, allied with a couple of bonus points, helped the Cameroon international to a third double-figure points-haul in his last five home matches. In spite of his recent fine form at the Bridge, Eto’o has failed to produce a single goal or assist on the road all season, and with Mourinho’s admitting last week he feels the forward is unsuited to playing away from home, Ba could well be handed the chance to lead the line against Villa this weekend. Either way, the form of Eden Hazard, in addition to the outstanding value on offer at the back for the Blues, is more than enough to ensure Fantasy managers will steer clear of Chelsea’s forwards as legitimate options.

Coloccini In the Mix for Magpies

Reports in the local press indicate that the Argentine has returned to Tyneside and is back in training ahead of a weekend trip to Fulham. Coloccini was given time off from the previous Gameweek due to a family bereavement – providing he proves his match sharpness, he will take his place in Alan Pardew’s back-four once again at Craven Cottage.

The Scout Says: Forced off with a back injury on New Year’s Day, Coloccini’s subsequent six-match spell on the sidelines saw the Magpies suffer some heavy defeats, with Sunderland, Chelsea and Spurs all putting three or more past the Tyneside team. The Argentine’s return to the starting XI in Gameweek 27 had an immediate impact and helped Pardew’s side to a 1-0 win over Villa before he was handed time off for personal reasons. Now down to just 4.8 in FPL, Coloccini has two home fixtures against Palace and Everton in double Gameweek 31 to follow the Fulham clash and, with Stoke and Swansea also on his agenda over the next six, may well appeal to those on the search for a budget-friendly backline option.

Would get rid of Mata and Lambert. Try to get Aguero in there maybe. Can you afford Mata & Lambert > Sterling & Aguero. Chelseas defence is great, no need to ship Ivan.

I just can't believe a team can continue getting so many. Yes, their style of play and certain individuals means they should get more penalties than average but recently it seems like Gerrard gets one roughly every other game (in all competitions) and that rate surely won't continue.

It's mad isn't it. But like you say, it's just the way we play. I think we're quite determined to do well in our last few games so if we face teams who have relaxed a little I think it could well continue.

Unlikely to get both games in a DGW - but might be worth the risk at his price. At least you know he will get some game time, which is a luxury you don't have in a single GW. But a nailed on DGWer with favourable fixtures will probably prove a better option, if you can afford one.

I've got Aguero in, and can change things around if things go wrong against Barca.

Reason: City don't have a midweek game next week.

So seems most are playing this week. I'd just be worried setting team up then all of a sudden couple DGW players get injured/suspended at weekend.

I think if my team wasn't in as good shape this week I definitely would, but I'm happy holding another week and just taking hit on any price rises.

When you consider the difference in price between Baines and Distin, it's quite staggering really!

I know Baines will probably get on average around 1-2 bonus points extra every other game and the odd goal/assist, but the smart money would be on Distin to offer great value, no?

I think at this point in the season, looking at PPG is pretty reliable. Baines 5.1 vs Distin 3.5.

Considering Everton have sexy fixtures, you want to maximize pointage rather than coverage.

        That's true.

Baines costs 1.42 times as much as Distin and gets 1.46 as many points per minute so edges it on value actually.

Distin is a good alternative, but I don't think you can compare the two of them.
      Last 5 seasons;

      (Distin - Baines)
      Goals: 2 - 18
      Assists: 4 - 31
      CS: 35 - 37
      Bonus: 36 - 87

If your TV is low and you can't afford Baines without several downgrades, Distin is a great pick. Also or if you prefer an upgrade of say Sterling -> Gerrard instead of Distin -> Baines, it's also a fair choice. I'd rather get Chester over Kosc/Kolarov/Zab and Baines over Distin, I expect big things from Baines the last few games.

I wouldn't like to second-guess too munch, but here is my rough thinking, assuming everyone stays fit* and they still have something to play for my GW37:

          every match:
          Hart
          Kompany
          Yaya
          Fernandinho
          Silva
          Aguero

          Most matches:
          Zaba
          Demichelis (sadly)
          Negredo
          Nasri

          Wouldn't like to say:
          Kolarov
          Dzeko
          Navas

Just a hunch. I wouldn't say he should be avoided purely due to question marks around game-time though and he may well play every game.

Demi is rubbish and surely won't play every game before the end of the season.

I'm a bit worried about Richards getting a game or two before the season finishes, annoyingly in the "easier" fixtures.

I don't think anyone bar possibly Toure and Kompany and Hart is 100% nailed on for every match. You don't just rest a player for an upcoming CL match, you rest him to stop accumulating fatigue and City have a lot of league matches to get through yet. Pellegrini has always been good at monitoring his squads' condition so if someone like Nasri or Silva is beginning to wane of course they'll get rested for a West Brom or Palace type match.

Kolarov has much higher attacking/explosive potential, but Distin is at least nailed on. Tricky one, I'd flip a coin, prefer Kolarov maybe.

    I think I'm going mad - Evra + Snodgrass + Lambert > Distin + AJ + Lukaku -8?

Would have to be either Evra or Ivanovic (I have Azpi already) Chelsea fixtures are simply awesome, no blank gw34, Evra has some average fixtures plus a blank gw34 so saving a transfer now. All the people coming in have good fixtures this week and double/(s) coming up.

I've done the same thing, and I'm not gonna even bother thinking about it...

I'm at that stage of the season where I have to take some risks, either that or I'm beginning to care less and less...

I spend way too much time fretting over these decisions, and then it can go wrong regardless, so what's the point in worrying about it... 😀

    Boruc Davis
    Coleman Azpi Olsson Ward Evans
    Haz Nolan Lala Snod Parker
    Suarez Studge Ade
    1FT, £6.7 bank

What to do with this lot? Thinking Ade, Snod, Lala > Kun, Yaya, £6.6m (over this week and next). That last spot would be AJ/Sterling/Livermore, depending on Kun price rises. What do you think?

Worth an additional hit next week for Evans > DGW defender, or just play Olsson at home to SUN?

£1.2m short. I'm thinking, after the Barca game if Kun's come through with no problems, Ade>Kun this week and then could do Snod and Lalla > Yaya and Sterling next week.

Would give me a it left over for Evens>Distin as well...
        Cheers

Ok, I think my team is finally setting itself. Going without Aguero. Current draft on:

    Mannone 3.9
    Baines - Cahill - Ward - Collins/McCarthy - Chester
    Hazard - Yaya - Nolan - AJ - Puncheon
    Suarez - Sturridge - Lukaku

    Thoughts, lads? 🙂

What are Mata owners doing with him?

Aguero is a must I think, and another City midfielder HAS to come in, 3 games in hand. I can't find a way to get Yaya/Nasri/Silva in without dumping him. But still doesn't feel right, he did create a few chances against WBA.

After the DGW, plan to Mata > Silva/Gerrard. I would do it now if I didn't have other problems to attend too. Mata assists the assister, didn't get into the box when crosses coming in, just lurking outside the box, in my opinion, he won't translate into FPL points.

Come to think of it, he is my top priority to get out haha

I am 0.1m short of being able to get my team where I want it to be come gameweek 32. If I get Sissoko just now will his price rise 0.2 by then in order to gain the 0.1 profit?

Its Hazard. Still paying the ultimate price for downgrading to Oscar on my wildcard when he was 10.4m and Chelsea's run in will kill my mini league chances if I don't swallow the pride and get him back.

Since every single player in the game has him surely he won't rise again by then?
