Chelsea cruise past Galatasaray thanks to goals from Samuel Eto’o and Gary Cahill. Vincent Kompany will face no action for an alleged gesture to Hull fans last Saturday, Roberto Martinez has mixed news on the injury front, Tim Sherwood’s worries in defence continue to escalate, whilst Mark Hughes has attacking concerns for Stoke’s visit to Villa Park:

CHELSEA EASE THROUGH TO QUARTER FINALS

Jose Mourinho rolled out his usual 4-2-3-1 formation for last night’s comfortable Champions League victory over Galatasaray, with Frank Lampard and Ramires fielded in the centre of the park and Samuel Eto’o handed the lone forward role ahead of the trio of Eden Hazard, Oscar and Willian. Eto’o repaid his manager’s faith in just the fourth minute of the game – his tenth home strike of the season put Chelsea ahead courtesy of an Oscar assist, whilst Gary Cahill served Fantasy managers a reminder of his attacking potential by notching the hosts’ second just before half-time.

The Scout Says: A sixth shut-out in a row at home in all competitions indicates just what a fortress Stamford Bridge has become under Mourinho. With no double Gameweeks to play over the remainder of the season many will have begun to neglect Chelsea’s assets, but with a superb schedule to come once this weekend’s home clash with Arsenal is out of the way (cry, STK, swa, SUN), John Terry and co look set to reap more returns in the coming weeks. After starting twice in succession earlier this month, Andre Schurrle has now been utilised as a sub in each of the last two matches. The German was afforded a 10-minute substitute appearance last night and seems to have fallen down the pecking order once again, having rocketed onto our radars after a headline-stealing hat-trick against Fulham only a few weeks ago.

FA KIND TO KOMPANY

Manchester City skipper Vincent Kompany will not face further FA action for an alleged reaction to the Hull supporters following his dismissal at the KC on Saturday. This means that the Belgian’s suspension will remain at the mandatory one match and ensure that he is available for the Manchester derby in a week’s time.

The Scout Says: Kompany’s 4.9% owners will be somewhat relieved to hear that the centre-back will face no further punishment for his actions ahead of City’s run of 11 matches in the final eight Gameweeks. Those owners will be frustrated by his absence for the potentially profitable home fixture against lowly Fulham this Saturday, though, with over 26,000 turning to Pablo Zabaleta instead thus far. Nonetheless, with two more double Gameweeks to come, and three clean sheets in City’s last trio of games, Kompany could still be worth our attention once his suspension is out of the way.

BARRY WINNING FITNESS BATTLE

Roberto Martinez insists that Gareth Barry should be fit for Saturday’s game against Swansea, with the midfielder’s availability having been put in doubt after picking up a knock against Cardiff last weekend. Meanwhile, Martinez also confirmed that the fitness of captain Phil Jagielka and winger Steven Pienaar will be assessed prior to Saturday’s match.

The Scout Says: Despite incurring the knock mid-way through the Cardiff game, the 5.3-priced Barry battled on for the whole 90 minutes and assisted Everton’s late winner. Hardly renowned as a major Fantasy figure, Barry – who has been all but immune to rotation for his side this season – has still outscored the likes of Steven Pienaar and Ross Barkley in the Toffees midfield this term and his consistency of game time may be worth an outside punt ahead of the Toffees’ two impending double Gameweeks. Jagielka’s potential absence may see Fantasy managers eyeing up John Stones (4.1) as a cut-price option, though there’s no doubts that Seamus Coleman and Leighton Baines are still the chief assets in Everton’s rearguard. A return from injury for Pienaar looks set to further problematize the midfield conundrum for Martinez and Fantasy managers, with the Spaniard already hinting at rotation in the attacking areas earlier this week.

CENTRE-BACK DILEMMA FOR SPURS

Younes Kaboul has emerged as a doubt for Tottenham’s Europa League trip to Benfica on Thursday, potentially leaving Tim Sherwood with no centre-backs for the tie. Reports suggest that Kaboul picked up an injury in his side’s defeat to Arsenal last weekend and with Michael Dawson and Vlad Chiriches still recovering from injuries themselves, and Jan Vertonghen suspended from European duties, Sherwood’s has a dilemma on his hands that could well carry on to Saturday’s match against Southampton.

The Scout Says: Whilst Sherwood will have the comfort of Vertonghen being available at the weekend, the rest of his defence is currently in a state of disarray. If neither Kaboul, Dawson nor Chiriches are able to recover for domestic matters, the Spurs boss may potentially have to utilise Sandro alongside Vertonghen in the heart of defence, and will also be keeping his fingers firmly crossed that Kyle Walker will make his comeback from the groin injury that kept him out of last Sunday’s derby. Jay Rodriguez and Rickie Lambert will be the men looking to profit from Spurs poor fortunes on Saturday, whilst further problems for the North London side’s rearguard could be disastrous as they square up to Liverpool’s lethal attack the following weekend.

IRELAND INELIGIBLE FOR VILLA TRIP

Stoke City have confirmed that Stephen Ireland will sit out this Sunday’s trip to Aston Villa due to a clause in the contract he signed in January that bars him from facing his former club.

The Scout Says: With Jon Walters and Charlie Adam still missing through suspension, Ireland’s absence will be even more of a blow for Mark Hughes’ side. The playmaker helped inspire the Potters to their 3-1 win over West Ham last weekend, but without him or his two aforementioned teammates available for this weekend, Stoke’s sources of creativity look set to be lacking, with Hughes likely to have to shift Marko Arnautovic into the central role for Sunday’s game. Owners of Villa’s defensive assets, on the other hand, will be confident going into the fixture – only two goals conceded in their last four games highlights Villa’s current defensive form, and an under-strength Stoke attack will have to work hard to ruin that record.

Would love to hear your views on Michael Carrick as am just after being told for the millionth time how under rated he is.

My view of him is that hes useless!

Against average sides he sometimes looks good. But in the main hes continuously gives the ball away, he hardly ever scores or assists, he doesn't tackle and anytime he gets the ball he slows play down to his own snails speed which in turns gives the opposition time to regroup.

And dare i say if he wasn't English there wouldn't be a word about because hes just an average player. And as we know utd should have world class midfielders like Keane and Scholes where!

New Left Back, Central Defence, a much better box to box midfielder, rooney needs to be converted into a creative midfielder (he's arguably best in the middle of the field - fergie knew this).

i believe Moyes has got the right idea molding the team around Rooney, but he's better as a midfielder as he proved every time he played there last season. He tracks back and opens defences with passing into the right areas. He's no Scholes (that guy was the one of best passers football has arguably ever seen), but he's still very good in that position.

At the moment he could do a job. But long term we need a ready made world class midfielder. United shouldn't be converting players!

that's cos he doesn't do the grunt work that's also required in the premier league. He doesn't track back!

He's much better suited for another league in Europe where this isn't such an issue in my opinion.

A creative midfielder wouldn't need to do the donkey work if he had the likes of gundogon beside him. And its not right to say he doedoesn't track back because he does.

I'm a Liverpool fan and I can't help but think Moyes is what Hodgson was to us.

Thankfully, we got rid of him when we realised it wasn't working. Nothing against Hodgson, it just didn't work and it was ultimately the wrong fit. He is a good manager at the right club and I dare say the same is true about Moyes.

yep, just the wrong manager, hodgson like moyes is a good manager but his style didnt suit liveprool in the same way moyes' style doesnt suit utd. utd are calling out for a rodgers in the same way liverpool were after rafa went a bit too defensive/negative in his last yr or two that clearly wasnt working. some clubs are just meant to play a certain way, it would be like arsenal trying to replace wenger with big sam.

United need a manager who has that relentless attacking style, alla Fergie.

Moyes recommended by Fergie. 6 year contract.
He won't be going anywhere soon, too much Compo payout.
He did well at Everton because he got average players to punch above their weight and grind out results.
But Uniteds style of attacking with millionaire stars is completely against Moyes philosophy.
Fans should get used to recent displays because there will be many more to come.

Hi all, in need of advice as I am really unsure as to which way to go.

I have the money for these two options:

    1.Get aguero in for lukaku
    Or
    2. For-4 pts get Coleman & silva in for Collins & lallana.

I know option 2 would be good for this double game week, but feel aguero for the rest of the season is also good.

basically find it much easier to get >6 points from a 5-6mil defender than >6points froma 5-6mil midfielder, all because of the bonus really, and clean sheets generally being more predictable than goals and assists, especially for that price of player. the more the merrier, would play 613 if it was possible

I'm doing Mata -> Silva for a hit, I think it's unlikely United will run riot with those fixtures, while City could in both.

I think it is with Sun defenders, especially as their fixtures are shocking. But the likes of Yaya are a little more reliable than that. Then do what is necessary to afford Aguero if fit again for next DGW. It will use the transfers I have I suspect without adding another into the mix

    Cech - Mannone
    Coleman - Evra - Cahill - Dummett - Chester

Interestingly the RMT as C as the best option....

I guess I'd very rarely start Delph (probably only for GW33 (FUL) and their later DGW) and Baines has superb fixtures for the next 4.

You see many attacking returns for AJ over the next few weeks?

Over how many fixtures was that though? Over the next 8 I'd be surprised to see C as top.

          Fair enough.

Erm, kinda, but him, Nolan, Mirallas and Sterling are the only options in that price bracket really aren't they, unfortunately. I know Mirallas isn't popular on here due to his rotation threat but I think he was very unlucky at the weekend and if he rips it up this weekend then he'll suddenly turn into a great option - he's worth the risk, imo.

I think it depends on your ML's though - if you're chasing a lead then I think Mirallas has the most upside. If you're sitting pretty at the top of your leagues then I'd probably just play it safe/boring and go with AJ.

    The case for Paul Dummett...

OK, I've been giving myself a headache for my draft team over whether to bring a Hull or Newcastle defender for the DWK. It's pretty much of a muchness but I'm going to be bringing in Paul Dummett. Here's why...

    Opposition:

    Newcastle (CRY/EVE):

Palace have the lowest recorded number of away goals this season. A paltry 6. Chances of Newcastle keeping a clean sheet in this game are pretty high.

Everton away are hardly free scoring either, mustering only 14. The likes of West Brom, Villa and Newcastle themselves have scored more. Defensively Newcastle's defensive home record isn't that impressive but they have conceded less than West Ham and Southampton, who have reputations for being tight.

    Hull (WBA/whu):

Hull have conceded less goals this term than Newcastle but not much. A mere 3. They haven't that been that tight recently either; conceding 7 in their last 4. They come up against a WBA threatened with relegation and might see the Hull game as a chance to nick something particularly with Sessegnon back (if you can call him a threat). WBA have scored more away goals than the likes of Everton and 6 less than high flyers Chelsea.

West Ham now have Andy Carroll back. Along side his pal Nolan, they will see the home game against Hull as a chance to secure safety. The Hammers score most of their goals at home and have found the net more than Spurs and United amazingly.

Newcastle's likely back four: (Santon/Dummet: Collocini: Williamson: Yanga/Santon)

    Dummet vs Yanga-Mbiwa/Santon

I'm hardly an expert on Newcastle but these seem like the likely candidates to play for Newcastle this week. Santon is coming back from injury and according to GreenWindmill is NOT likely to replace Dummett immediately. The chances are that he will take Yanga's spot if he does and from what I've seen of him, he's pretty poor, leaving Dummett to keep his place on the left.

    Dummett vs Williamson

Over the last four gameweeks, Dummett outshines Williamson. He has created more chances (3:2) , has had more goal attempts (again 3:2) and is on set pieces. This is mostly corners where Dummett has taken 15 since his run in the team. Although Williamson will likely get more BAPs. Williamson has set pieces in his locker and is priced cheaper than Williamson at 3.9m, where Williamson is priced at 4.2. A small saving for sure but may prove the difference for those looking to free up funds elsewhere.

    Dummett vs Collocini

With Debuchy out and Santon a doubt, Collocini comes in as Newcastle's most costly defender. Coloccini has been less effective than Williamson looking at the stats. Coloccini is very much a defensive player and sees little action in the final third except perhaps at corners and set players, which with Ben Arfa out and Cabaye gone are taken by Dummett.

    Conclusion

Dummett could prove a real bargain for this gameweek or as a short term bench option for what he offers. The slight threat from set pieces is the real swinger and is the reason why I am going to have a short term punt on the Welsh U21 international. Hope this helps folks!

He's 0.1 more than Chester over at Hull and considerably less than on offer for other DWK team defenders. Dummett also seems to offer something that others might not. It's a short term punt if anything.

      Sorry Fortunes.

I'm going with Williamson FWIW - nailed on and more likely to get the BAPs in a clean sheet = worth the extra 0.3m imo.

He probably will. If you are on limited funds though, he might be worth it. No need to feel sorry Madridista, it's more getting out what was going on in my head and trying to convince myself!

Extra DGW for Chester down the line and 100% nailed on for starts tips the scales his way for me. I'm a bit risk-averse though.

There is no one else - most of us already have Chester at 3.8.
Dummett shouldn't be on your starting line, but good bench fodder in case someone gets hurt in warmups. He's a good option at that price.

If he continues to start, he's a great punt with the set pieces (he's a hell of a lot better than Santon at them who was taking them before he got injured).

However I think it's a big if. I think you could count on one hand the times Santon's started at RB for us, even though he's right footed and it's not as if the competition there has been immense over recent seasons (Simpson and Perch!)

When Santon's fit, he'll probably start at LB, though I don't think that will be this weekend. Pardew tried him in midfield just before injury but with Tiote and Anita fit and available, I can't see this happening again anytime soon.

Do you think he will continue to start Cabaye? How has he been playing? All I remember about Dummett was that he scored against Liverpool on his debut (although I may be wrong). Being objective, do you think he's a better punt than say, James Chester?

I don't think so tbh, Santon, whilst he hasn't been at his best recently, will most likely start ahead of him at LB.

Dummett's not done badly, he puts a decent shift in and puts some good crosses in but in all truth I'm not sure he's quite good enough to make it at this level (hope he proves me wrong!)

I'd get Williamson. Nailed on, more likely to get bonus.

This is possibly the most that has ever been written about Paul Dummett ever, anywhere. For that alone it is worthy of a hot topic. Good analysis as well...you have me tempted.

Morning all, am a bit worried about my team due to the presence of 4 non DGWers but don't want to get rid of Hazard and Lallana as I want them for future weeks.

    Any thoughts?

    Boruc
    CHESTER - ZABALETA - COLEMAN
    HENDERSON - YAYA - Hazard - Lallana
    STURRIDGE - SUAREZ - Rodriguez

Lallana needs to go now I think. You can downgrade to Nolan and keep the funds to bring Lallana in next week.

    Hi guys ....

WC in play with a 5k ranking.

What would you change from this lot.

    Adrian (Mannone)

    Coleman, Koscienly, Chester (Ward) (Bruce)

    Yaya, Silva, Gerard, Nolan (Hazard)

    Suarez, Sturridge, Dzeko

Bruce to a guaranteed starter cheap as poss pref with DGW down the line such as Sunderland. Can you do Kosc to a Man City Def? Also I would be thinking that I want Aguero in at some point

Moneys too tight to mention !!!

Would like a Sunderland defender but with 3.8 left what alternatives have I got.

I considered Distin for Kosc and doubling up on Everton def, could raise a few pennies that way
