With Gameweek 31 safely navigated, we turn our attentions to stats that matter in the Sky game including the usual info; the Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries and current market trends. As always, we also look ahead to the forthcoming fixtures, offering our preferred captain setup for Gameweek 32.

Gameweek 31 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below is a match-by-match breakdown of the players who won the plaudits from the Sky Sports reporters last time out, earning five additional points for the Man-of-the-Match award.

FixtureMoTM
Hull vs Man CityDavid Silva
Everton vs CardiffDavid Marshall
Fulham vs Newcastle>

Steve Sidwell
Southampton vs NorwichJames Ward-Prowse
Stoke vs West HamStephen Ireland
Sunderland vs Crystal PalaceDamien Delaney
Swansea vs West BromJames Morrison
Aston Villa vs Chelsea>

Fabian Delph
Man United vs LiverpoolSteven Gerrard
Tottenham vs ArsenalLaurent Koscielny

As is often the case, midfielders claimed the majority of awards with seven out of the ten fixtures, whilst defenders earned two and goalkeepers one. It was a weekend for differentials as reflected in the MoTM awards; Steven Gerrard (8.49%), Laurent Koscielny (5.65%) and David Silva (4.54%) ownership were the only players of note to have a reasonable effect on overall rankings.

Gameweek 31 Bonus Points

Four goalkeepers managed five saves or more this week – Adrian, Joe Hart, David Marshall and Vito Mannone were the men in form. Mannone and Marshall lead the way overall with 20 and 18 bonus points respectively.

In defence, a total of 14 players gathered bonus, 12 for four tackles or more and two for 60 completed passes – centre-back Sylvain Distin was the closet to earning both, missing out by 12 completed passes. Angel Rangel is now the top bonus point earner with 24 extra points so far.

In midfield, ten players earned bonus points – five for tackling and five for passes. Morgan Schneiderlin was the player closet to achieving both, falling just one tackle short of the required four – he is also now the top bonus point earner, with 38 additional points.

A reminder that Fantasy Football Scout members can access all the data regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Top Transfers Out

NameTeamValue% of Managers
OzilArsenal8.86.45%
DawsonTottenham6.25.76%
AdebayorTottenham7.65.67%
NegredoMan City8.65.06%
GabbidonCrystal Palace3.74.23%

The top three players for transfers out are all carrying injury concerns and have been shipped by over 5% of Fantasy managers. Alvaro Negredo and Danny Gabbidon have had limited first team opportunities in recent weeks and also find themselves in the top five.

Top Transfers In

NameTeamValue% of Managers
SturridgeLiverpool9.26.10%
SterlingLiverpool4.85.44%
GerrardLiverpool8.13.98%
HazardChelsea8.83.53%
ShawSouthampton5.33.52%

Liverpool dominate again this week with three of their attacking assets at the summit of the most wanted list ahead of an enticing couple of fixtures. Eden Hazard and Luke Shaw make up the remaining numbers as their strong form continues.

Gameweek 32 Proposed Captain Strategy

Looking ahead to the captaincy choices for Gameweek 32 we have a multitude of options available due to the double Gameweek. If you have a surplus of transfers you could even opt for four captains.

Our Strategy:
Luis Suarez (Cardiff Away) → Luis Suarez (Sunderland at Home)

It’s a tricky Gameweek to navigate the captain choices and this is mainly due to Liverpool’s appealing fixtures and the dates of the ties. As Liverpool do not play until Sunday in Gameweek 33, swapping the armband during this Gameweek will make it all the more difficult to finish with Luis Suarez as your captain in Wednesday’s home clash with Sunderland. Therefore we opt to forgo the lure of extra captains and instead recommend using the captaincy swap in a more tactical way, retaining it on Suarez from Saturday to Wednesday and then, when the Gameweek has ended, swapping to a player featuring on Saturday March 29 – of which one of Eden Hazard/Wayne Rooney look good options.

Of course if you have the transfers or prefer to go for the short term option of points in the bag and rectify later – going with a player from one of the Manchester clubs for their two games and then a captain switch to Luis Suarez would result in three captains for the week and could potentially be more profitable. At this point in the season, though, few will have the trades left for such a tactic.

A repost from the previous post..

According to a friend of mine who happens to have a membership here, the stats on Sturridge say he has got 2 goals and 2 assists in the last 4, whereas the FPL site says he has 3 goals and 4 assists.

    Which is right?

      Reposted reply 🙂

Where assists are concerned, it depends on your definition. Opta don't count winning a penalty as an assist, whereas FPL does. Neither is objectively 'right'.

Don't understand the difference in goal count though.

Has your friend been looking at the last 4 gameweeks as opposed to the last 4 matches that Sturridge has played? Liverpool had no game in GW29 so...

      GW26: 1 Goal, 2 Assists
      GW27: 2 Goals, 1 Assist
      GW28: 0 Goals, 0 Assists
      GW29: No Game
      GW30: 0 Goals 1 Assist

So his last 4 appearances have yielded 3 goals and 4 assists.
He has 2 goals and 2 assists in the last 4 gameweeks.

Wenger celebrates his 1,000th match in charge at Stamford Bridge but Mourinho said: 'The tribute is to say that any one of us, we'd love to have the same privilege with our clubs.

'I admire Wenger and I admire Arsenal, a club that stands by their manager in bad moments - of which there were quite a lot.'

As a Chelsea fan, I have to be honest and wish Mourinho would keep his mouth shut in moments like this. Wenger deserves respect, not cheap-shots for his 1,000th game in charge.

However, Mourinho's beef with Wenger dates back to a long period of Wenger trying to psyche out Mourinho, referees and the FA with non-stop sniping and commentary on Chelsea. Once Mourinho branded Wenger a 'voyeur' he shut up, either out of fear or, more likely, knowledge that he had the higher ground and the sentiment that comes with it.

Reality is both have given as good as they've got over the years.

Agreed. But he's stated his regret for that. Not sure about you but I for one cannot claim I've never done something just as stupid in a red-mist moment.

That said, when asked if he could have 3 wishes he replied one of them would be for Vilanova of cancer. So maybe not a total scumbag?

I agree he's often out of order and it's often embarrassing. But so was Wenger when he was winning trophies - not sure what this says about the game but, when Wenger stopped playing mind games, his team stopped winning stuff...

In all honesty, Mourinho has been the mister psyche and mind games for all his history. Wenger gives relatively little comments, and has never done atrocities like Mourinho has (thumbs up if you remember Tito's eye).

He really should learn some respect. I too am backing for Arse this weekend, although I'm a bit torn with this since I have a bet on Chelsea winning the title and I do admire Hazard and would love to see him win some more titles.

Dummett and Chester aren't 100% nailed on but should do well this week.. although in 6 games without Remy, Newcastle have scored 0 and conceded 15..

Ox is a punt but it could work out well for you as he's a good differential, not many will have him, most are going for Sterling/Nolan/AJ.

If you feel like upgrading anywhere and you're on your WC, then Lukaku -> Carroll frees up 1.5 million and I fancy Carroll to do just as well as Lukaku this week.

        Haha 😀 everything for you

Cheers for an very good review of the team.

That Newcastle stat is really worrying, but Everton and Palace isn't really scoring away, might taake a look on it though.

Like the Ox as a punt, yes 🙂 Though it could be nice with Nolan too.

I've had a weird feeling Lukaku will let me down again since I got him in, think I'm actually gonna get Carroll in now. As said, taiking risky decisions is fun atm.

        Thanks again!

Palace not scoring away is the reason I'm actually after getting Williamson in 😉 regardless of that stat.

If I were you I'd go with Carroll as it allows you to upgrade elsewhere 🙂

No problem man! Hope it works out for ya!

Dzeko, because I don't own him at the moment so he will definitely play both games and score 4 goals.

I'm thinking Dzeko - He doesn't need to play 180 minutes to get points - His points per minute must be among the best in the league this season.

Have to wonder if there's some illusion in Gerrard's good form. Last non-penalty goal he scored was against Everton, and although penalties are counted too, just how many penalties can Liverpool get in one season? They have got 6 penalties in last 5 matches (all competitions). It seems highly unlikely that they would keep getting them on that rate?

It just is very unusual for a team to average a penalty per match, let alone more than that. Even Liverpool themselves "only" average 1 penalty for every three matches in PL this season, and prior to this recent run of 5 in 4 (the cup match excluded) it was less than 1 per 5. For every other team the ratio is 1 per 6 matches or lower. Last season Liverpool themselves got less than 1 per 6 matches. If they will continue to get these penalties in every match, it starts to smell fishy. And if they don't, then Gerrard should hit a scoring drought.
