It was a day of monumental comebacks. Sunday saw Spurs battle back from a two-goal deficit at White Hart Lane to prise three points from Southampton and prolong their challenge for the fourth Champions League spot, while Stoke staged a remarkable 4-1 upset at Villa Park, having fallen behind inside the first five minutes. The win propelled the Potters above their hosts into the top half of the table and boosts their chances of a highest-ever Premier League finish.

Lallana and Rodriguez maintain World Cup credentials
Two of Southampton’s England hopefuls furthered their case for a spot on the plane to Rio this summer by registering on the scoresheet and collecting a share of the bonus points at White Hart Lane. Both Adam Lallana and Jay Rodriguez continue to make light of their pre-season price tags and scorned the managers who’d shipped them in favour of double Gameweek candidates. In fact, Lallana was the Fantasy Premier League’s (FPL) most transferred-out player for Gameweek 31 (160,000+ sales), while Rodriguez made a swift exit from over 60,000 sides – ironically making way in the most part for the disappointing Steven Gerrard, Kevin Nolan and Edin Dzeko.

With another fruitful Gameweek under their belts, Lallana now sits third for midfielders in FPL, with eight goals and eight assists to his name, while Rodriguez ranks in the top five FPL strikers, boasting a goal tally to match Wayne Rooney for almost 5.0 less. The Saints now welcome Newcastle and Cardiff to St Mary’s and travel to Villa in the next four, suggesting further returns could well be on the cards.

Eriksen Back on the Radar
While Lallana has been flying the flag for the mid-priced midfielders all season long, Christian Eriksen has merely flirted with the top performers in patches, without ever making the commitment. A monster 18-point haul from the Dane – by virtue of a brace, an assist and maximum bonus points – will no doubt propel him back onto the Fantasy radar ahead of Spurs’ showdown with title-challengers Liverpool at Anfield.

Yesterday’s appearance was his second successive start after Tim Sherwood dropped the summer signing for four straight league games, but with his form flourishing and Emmanuel Adebayor struggling with hamstring and ankle problems, the momentum may have swung back in Eriksen’s favour. Now down to a mere 6.5 in FPL, Eriksen’s schedule from Gameweek 33 onwards (SUN, wba, FUL, sto, whm, AVL) suggests he may be poised to end a frustrating debut season in style and hand Fantasy managers a key differential for the run-in.

Benteke and Delph Deliver but Villa Stumble Again
Following back-to-back home wins against Norwich and title contenders Chelsea in the last two Gameweeks, Villa were strong favourites to dispose of a visiting Stoke side that had failed to win on the road since August. Christian Benteke’s early strike took his recent tally to six goals and a pair of assists in his last 10, but the hosts fell apart thereafter as their inconsistent season continues.

Villa had conceded just twice in the previous four and, given they had kept out the league leaders last weekend, Ron Vlaar and co. would have been expected to deliver the defensive returns yet again, only to ship four to their travel-sick opponents. Once next week’s trip to Old Trafford has passed, the schedule still smiles favourably on the Midlands outfit but their patchy form may deter Fantasy managers from snapping up their budget assets as Lambert look to secure a mid-table finish to the season.

Fabian Delph’s assist against Stoke continues his recent rise to prominence, however. Sitting fourth for value amongst midfielders, the 4.3-priced former Leeds man has now scored or assisted in each of the last three Gameweeks and is coming into consideration as budget option for the remainder of the campaign.

Crouch and Odemwingie Steer Stoke to Victory
With 37 FPL points between them in just two matches, the two Peters are forging a Potters partnership to be reckoned with. Available at just £5.4m and £5.6m respectively, Odemwingie and Crouch drew all the plaudits from the trip to Villa Park with the latter reaping full bonus points in a man-of-the-match display. It is certainly something of a return to past glories for both men, who may now be in their footballing twilight years, but with their final four home games coming against Hull, Newcastle, Tottenham and Fulham, there could be a few more goals in the tank yet.

Arnautovic Stakes a Budget Claim
With a couple of promising performances harvesting eight FPL points in each of his last two games, the enigmatic Marko Arnautovic may be building a case for consideration of his own. The Austrian provides managers with a flair differential option with just 0.2% ownership and, at just £5.1m, could take up a low-risk fifth midfielder spot in order to capitalise on Stoke’s impressive form at the Britannia. That said, Arnautovic’s points have come in the absence of Charlie Adam, Stoke’s main source in midfield for attacking returns, and the Scot is due to return to action in Gameweek 32, having completed a three-match ban. Arnautovic’s stream of points could dry up just as quickly.

Was a DGW where he scored 4 in one and 1 in the other. Probably an assist or two thrown in too.

about being stubborn and what kind of FPL manager are you, I think a lot of us on here fall into the category of the 'over-thinks it manager' rather than the stubborn manager.

for example, I am not an idiot who doesn't get a player in who can get points out of being stubborn. i do however try to rationalise to myself that the player's form/output won't continue e.g. ramsey/yaya

i think many would benefit from just accepting a player is on form and getting them in. many look to stats/previous seasons to justify not getting in form players. that doesn't take into account changes though. for example, yaya being liberated by fernandinho this season or ramsey's maturation as a player

stats can be deceiving. e.g. paulinho at the beginning of the season. gut feel/instinct from watching a player play should always take priority over stats imo. wakey was telling me jelavic/carroll were in the top 3 for striker's stats going into the DGW but niether scored. i understand they have their place but stats are not the be all and end all. don't rely on them!

for example, I am not an idiot who doesn't get a player in who can get points out of being stubborn. i do however try to rationalise to myself that the player's form/output won't continue e.g. ramsey/yaya

i think many would benefit from just accepting a player is on form and getting them in. many look to stats/previous seasons to justify not getting in form players. that doesn't take into account changes though. for example, yaya being liberated by fernandinho this season or ramsey's maturation as a player

stats can be deceiving. e.g. paulinho at the beginning of the season. gut feel/instinct from watching a player play should always take priority over stats imo. wakey was telling me jelavic/carroll were in the top 3 for striker's stats going into the DGW but niether scored. i understand they have their place but stats are not the be all and end all. don't rely on them!

Most previous season stats are completely spurious, having no relation to the strength of current team or opposition. Most managers will have changed in two years. Players pop in and out of clubs kissing the badge as they arrive and spitting on it when they go. Some players are known for hitting a purple patch for a few games only to lose form or interest.

did anyone actually play mutch this gw? he's now gone up in price too (more owners), he just had to wait 1 more match ffs!
just looking at cardiff had 3 shots on target that match, so you could speculate without mutch liverpool would have kept a clean sheet. #trolled

Yes, he will. There are 3 options:
      1) Arsenal applies for wrong decision against Gibbs. FA frees Gibbs, and transfers the red card to Ox.
      2) The FA can pro-actively review and change that, but that would be like literally "admitting" mistake.
      3) The referee association pro-actively admits the mistake, punish / ban the referee and appeals to FA - who will obviously then cange it.

I feel like I wasted my WC loading up DGW players. My pre-WC team would have scored better - Speroni, Ivanovic, Azpil, Baines, Yaya, Lallana, Eriksen, Hazard, Suarez, Sturridge, JRod - 135 - but with only 4 DGW players.

Instead my post-WC 11-DGW team scored 101 only.... The extra 7 DGW players - Adrian, Chester, Kolarov, Coleman, Nolan, Sterling and Lukaku need to score more than 34 points, plus some more in their 2nd outing to justify the WC.

Hmm, I'm not sure of the quotes origins or the original context, but the poster that quoted it in reply to my post implies differentiating "winners" and "losers" based on behaviour in defeat.

Are "winners" happy about losing? Of course not.

Are all "winners" ungracious in defeat? Thankfully not.

Is Ronaldo ungracious in defeat? IMO yes - this doesn't make him a "winner" or a "loser", it just makes him seem like a cry baby.

No, it really was a definite foul and red. You could say Neymar played for it, but even so it's still a pen. Watched it live, in HD, the commentators and most people seem to be focusing on the tiny pull but the legs is where the collision happened. As Neymar ran across him his trailing leg was caught by Ramos which in turn unbalanced him and caused him to trip

After much deliberation, I've decided to get a Sunderland defender instead of Dann or Chester. So which of the back 4 is the best option? Still Bardsley? Or Alonso?

Bardsley. But why a Sunderland defender? Surely Palace are much more solid at the back.

How many games need to be ruined before they introduce replays in football. Neymar dived big time. Divers need to be harshly punished. Can you imagine if that was Suarez in EPL? Theyd probably ban him for 3-4 games.

Retrospective bans are probably the best solution as it doesn't interfere with the flow of the game. It seems the easiest solution in the short term at least.

Then the ref would spend more time watching TV replays than playing the game.

Won't take a minute really. Players fake injuries and waste much more time. Plus he doesn't have to go to replays with every decision. You can limit it to red card and penalty decisions when he did not actually see the incident and therefore not 100% sure.

Retrospective bans will not do it and are useless since the match is already over. It could discipline players I agree but won't stop the ref mistake from happening.

They would (hopefully) stop the players from trying to con the refs in the first place as they know they'll be banned afterwards.

You've got the decision wrong even with replays, his trailing leg was clearly caught. You can make arguments about whether he left it back there on purpose or whatever but he was caught and tripped

Exactly! We played borini through the middle against city in the final and he was quality, then he's been stuck out wide since to accommodate likes of fletcher and altidore, doesn't make sense. My first choice XI would be:

            Manonne
            Bardsley Brown O'Shea Alonso
            Bridcutt Ki Colback
            AJ Borini Giaccherini

With a run of games I think Giaccherini could do well. Reguarly plays for italy and was in and out of the Juve side that won the league last year.
