PlayON, the weekly Fantasy Football game, is running a mini-gameweek which consists of Tuesday and Wednesday evening’s five fixtures. As always, we scour the PlayON Price List for potential bargains ahead of this evening’s kick-offs:

PlayON is also launching a new Twitter feed today @PlayONLive – which provides a live feed of all team news, goals, assists and results for all Premier League matches. You can follow @PlayONLive here

If you’re new to PlayON, it is weekly Fantasy Football so you can dip in and out of playing throughout the season.

Once your starting XI is built you can compete for cash. You can challenge other players to one-on-one games, selecting the amount at stake. The likes of Robbie Fowler, Les Ferdinand and OptaJoe are all playing the game and are there to be challenged for free or for £1. The Fantasy Football Scout team is also available to be challenged and has a 52% win rate up to this point. You can also create an open challenge against anyone else on the site – just click the amount you want to play for and the number of slots (number of people who can accept your challenge) on the one-on-one page .

For a more in-depth introduction to PlayON, take a look at this season’s introduction article.

Goalkeeper – Simon Mignolet
The Liverpool number one will fancy his chances of picking up a third clean sheet in four attempts in tomorrow evening’s Anfield showdown with Sunderland. The Black Cats are toiling up top right now and have found the net once in their last four league matches, suggesting Mignolet, at 8.2m, could offer decent value. Wojciech Szczesny can be acquired for just 8.0m ahead of this evening’s home encounter with Swansea. Arsenal may be licking their wounds after Saturday’s mauling at Stamford Bridge but their home form is another matter altogether – the Gunners have conceded just once in their last six at the Emirates. Alternatively, Newcastle’s Tim Krul (8.5m) entertains an Everton side that have scored only one goal in their previous four road trips.

Defender – Thomas Vermaelen
With Laurent Koscielny sidelined due to a calf complaint, the Belgian looks set to partner Per Mertesacker in the heart of the Gunners defence. Having last started a league match back in late December, Vermaelen is a budget-friendly option in this week’s PlayON Player Price List and will set you back just 7.3m for the visit of Swansea. Everton’s Phil Jagielka has recovered from a hamstring injury and is expected to return to the starting line-up to face Newcastle. The Toffees skipper costs 8.4m and is up against a Magpies side that have scored a single goal in their last five league games without Loic Remy. Hull’s James Chester is priced at a reasonable 8.3m for the visit to West Ham, given that the Tigers have chalked up a clean sheet in each of their last two road trips.

Midfielder – Alex Oxlade Chamberlain
Prior to last weekend’s disastrous defeat at the hands of Chelsea, the Arsenal midfielder had scored or assisted in all three of his starts since returning from a knee injury. Cleared by the FA after a belated charge of wrongful dismissal was rescinded, the 8.8m-priced Oxlade-Chamberlain will be looking to help the Gunners bounce back from their Stamford Bridge humiliation against struggling Swansea this evening. Hatem Ben Arfa (8.0m) is a bit of a punt but the Frenchman could be set for a start against Everton this evening after impressing as a substitute in Newcastle’s late win over Crystal Palace on Saturday. Juan Mata is a relatively budget-friendly 9.2m for this evening’s Manchester derby. An injury to Robin van Persie saw the Spaniard shift to his preferred central berth behind Wayne Rooney on Saturday – his promptings from the role in “the hole” could make all the difference at Old Trafford.

Forward – Andy Carroll
A home clash with Hull gives Sam Allardyce the perfect chance to arrest a run of three straight defeats. The Hammers sit just six points clear of danger and Carroll’s contribution will be key tomorrow night – Steve Bruce’s side can expect an aerial bombardment as the hosts look to feed their 10.8m-priced target man in and around the area. Having missed the weekend win over Fulham through illness, Edin Dzeko has returned to full training and could be set to lead the line for Manchester City tonight. Priced at 10.2m, he’s scored in four of his last seven league appearances and looks in the mood to take advantage of United’s poor home form under David Moyes. Finally, Danny Welbeck will set you back just 8.4m for tonight’s Manchester derby. There’s no guarantee he’ll start but, at that price, the United frontman could well be worth a flutter as David Moyes looks to build on Saturday’s win over West Ham.

    Killian here from http://www.playon.co.uk,

Today we are launching a new Twitter feed - @PlayONLive - https://twitter.com/PlayONLive - which will contain team selections, goals, assists, player points and match results for all Premier League games.

We have done some research over the past few months on what people would like in a single, comprehensive fantasy football Twitter feed and this is the result. We would appreciate the input of the FFS Community on what else you would like in a single fantasy football feed or what other feeds are your favourite at present.

As always, I'm happy to answer any questions you have about the article above or about PlayON in general - just add as replies below and I will respond to them all.

Is there a bug? When I select someone for the final midfielders slot, the money is deducted, but after saving, there is no player there.

        Hi Bridge,

There is a bug in the team picking page when you pull down your previous team but all the players don't populate because some teams / players aren't playing in the current gameweek - as is the case this week.

We have built the team picking page to only populate valid players so people don't accidentally pick players who aren't playing in the current gameweek. The issue arises is if you had players in your team last week that now aren't playing (e.g. Chelsea players). This bug is resolved in our new site.

The easiest thing to do for now is to clear your team and pick it again and you'll be able to pick all of your players. Apologies for the inconvenience

Hi, Killian. I would like to be able to see the past results, not only last week's and not only mine and my past opponents. I would like to see all of them. When i challenge someone, i'd like to be able to see how did he play in the last few weeks, for example. Do you think it's possible? Cheers.

        Hi Bogdan,

Most of this is already possible.

You can view all of your own results by clicking "My Results" and scrolling back through the various gameweeks.

You can view the teams that your opponent has previously picked by visiting their profile page and clicking the "Preview Teams" tab - see here for Robbie Fowler https://www.playon.co.uk/users/2609/profile. You can find other people's profile pages by clicking on their name in tickets or in the multiplayer game entry page.

We don't show other people's results as the number of games people enter is private data. However we do show a combined Win% in their one-on-one games - again visible on their profile page or in one-on-one tickets.

Why would you do that? For all that we know, Noone should be back for that game, shouldn't he? If he is confirmed out, then maybe worth a sideways move even, but if not, I would rather save my transfer for something more important and take the risk with Noone.

At the moment I have no pressing issues and 2 FT's. If Noone doesn't make the game, I honestly think Mutch is worth the 0.3 extra. No rush for the transfer, I will obviously wait and see what happens with Noone.

Okay then. It's just hard to imagine your team is so splendid that you couldn't find better things to use transfers to than a sideways transfer between two Cardiff midfielders. But maybe it just is. You must be doing pretty well?

benching problem is no problem - unless you find yourself having constantly £7.5M+ worth player on your bench (e.g. you only have that expensive forwards and midfielders and always have to play a cheap, bad defenderwhile benching a lot of money in one midfielder or forward).

no prob mate.. as payment care to help me decide who to swap out between AJ and Sterling for Mutch? got 2 FTs so its a luxury transfer really. Swapping AJ out gives me exact cash for Chester to Demichilis/Sturridge to Aguero next week. Swapping Sterling leaves one extra transfer and 0.6 short of either of those moves.. cheers

          Haha for you boss, anytime!

I actually still prefer Sterling and AJ because AJ has the doubles and Sterling is probably as likely as Mutch to get gametime, Noone is returning and Ole loves a bit of rotation. But if it's to upgrade someone else fair enough. I much prefer the first of those moves though, Liverpool are very motivated and Aguero could be injured before he starts again, whereas City are likely to be tight at the back now and hull will relax as they've avoided relegation and will become more likely to concede. Their double actually doesn't look that great to me.
Ultimately though, who are your other midfielders as at this point in the season it's likely you'll keep most of 'em so you can genuinely work out rotations, seeing who you'll need most out of Sterling and AJ.

That's very impressive to have 2FTs this week, not many could say that!

I've watched AJ from the sidelines with skepticism and without ownership, finally got him in for the doubles and plan to keep him for the long haul, but so many of his double weeks are very nearly single weeks since he's facing superheavyweights once each go. And he seems well out of his purple patch.

Thinking of benchinig him and playing Zab against Arsenal away. And that's AJ at home against WHU. I may have made a mistake, but I feel I need to ride it out.

Sorry yes, when I sais I prefer the first of those moves I meant Chester to Demichelis over Sturridge to Aguero.
For now I'm sat on the fence of who out of AJ and Sterling to get rid of, but if pushed I'd agree with you and say AJ.

I would certainly prefer Zaba at arsenal when they have no midfield and Giroud's form is dipping again than AJ against a team notorious for its defence. Just my view though :).

thinking about it, given Liverpool play City in GW34, it makes more sense to have a City striker in that game. I think I will sell Sturridge in either 33 or 34 to Aguero if he's fit or Dzeko if he's not, and leave the cash spare to get Aguero when he is back. But then SaS play Norwich in GW35. Thoughts?

    Long post alert:

    RPDX said yesterday:
"Looking at the stats price v points it seems MUTCH is the best player [cash for points] at the moment, averaged over the season. This is the best value for money team you could have bought in GW1:
    Speroni (4.5) Ruddy (5)
    Terry (6) Fonte (4.5) Koscielny (5.5) Coleman (5) Skrtel (5.5)
    Mutch (4.5) Bacuna (5) Livermore (4.5) Delph (4.5) Lallana (6)
    JRod (6) Suarez (11) Lambert (7.5)
Total of 85 million - which leaves you £15m to upgrade some of that skank midfield.
WIth that exact team you would only be on around 1850 points, assuming just CSuarez, but if you had used the extra £15m wisely you could easily have got in Yaya, Hazard and upgraded 2 others to maybe Studge whoever - which would add well over 300 to that, putting you at number one in the world.
I think the main thing to take from this is that it looks fairly conclusive that spending a bit of money in defence seems to pay off, as the Value/Season seems to find the sweetest spot is in defence."

Unfortunately, RPDX's calculations and conclusions are not quite correct, because you can only field 11 players each GW, while the rest sit on the bench and score nil points.

So if you take the 11 players who currently have the best value in terms of total points divided by current price and field this 11 every GW with no auto-subs, and then substitute their GW1 price for their current one then you get the following, which is similar to RPDX's squad:
    Speroni (104/4.5=23.1), 4.0
    Terry (148/6.0=24.7), Fonte (119/4.5=26.4), Koscielny (120/5.5=21.8), Coleman (142/5.0=28.4), Skrtel (118/5.5=21.5)
    Mutch (102/4.5=22.7), Bacuna (93/5.0=18.6), Livermore(93/4.5=20.7), 4.5, 4.5
    Rodriguez (138/6.0=23.0), Suarez (255/11.0=23.2), 4.5
    Captaining Suarez every GW, Total Points / GW1 Team Value is 1687 / 79.5 = 21.2

If however you take the 11 players with the biggest price rises and do the same calculation then the squad becomes very different, with only Coleman, Fonte and Suarez retaining their places:
    Szczesny(128/5.5=23.3), 4.0
    Coleman (142/5.0=28.4), Fonte (119/4.5=26.4), Mertesacker(131/5.5=23.8), 4.0, 4.0
    Lallana(151/6.0=25.2), Yaya(186/8.5=21.9), Hazard(196/9.5=20.6), Ramsey(113/5.5=20.5), 4.5
    Suarez (255/11.0=23.2), Sturridge (167/9.0=18.6), Aguero (131/11.0=11.9)
    Captaining Suarez every time, Total points / GW1 Team Value is 1974 / 97.5 = 20.2

Aguero is clearly an anomaly in this, so if you replace him with the next biggest price riser, which is Rooney (160/10.5=15.2) then Total points / GW1 Team Value becomes 2003 / 97.0 = 20.6
This Ghost Team would be in the top 4k and its Team Value would now be 112.4 (or slightly more if the permanent bench players had also increased in price).

My reply to RPDX's original post (which was hulked but surprisingly not Hot Topic'ed) was http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2014/03/24/the-big-numbers-gameweek-31-2/?hc_page=3#hc_comment_7032439.

I thought that RPDX's calculations were slightly wrong because he was counting points from all 15 players, but it turns out that he was actually just counting the points from the 11 highest points-scorers chosen from the 15 players with the best ratios of total points to current price, so I recalculated using these 11 players (see reply to RPDX below).

Since we were really looking for the players with the best ratios of total points to GW1 Price, I therefore also calculated using the 11 players who have had the biggest price rises.

        Conclusions:
        1. RPDX claimed that a team chosen from the 15 players with the best ratios of total points to current price could have been selected in 5-2-3 formation with 2 cheap midfielders for 85.0m in GW1 and would now have about 1850 points and that spending the remaining 15m wisely might add a further 300 points and be top of the world.
        2. My recalculation showed that RPDX's squad would actually only have 1798 points to date for a cost of 84.5m.
        3. It is possible to select a squad based on price rises which which would have cost 97.0m in GW1 and with no changes or auto-subs would now be in the top 4k. There are few surprises in this squad - it is in the standard 3-4-3 formation, includes Yaya of course, and also includes Ramsey despite his long injury absence.

4th conclusion: Aguero would have been a poor choice for a Ghost Squad. Rooney would have been better value and scored more points. Many managers have suffered from holding on to Aguero for too long. (This analysis, however, takes no account of forthcoming DGWs, or have good returns during injury-free periods).

5th conclusion: An even better Ghost Squad is possible, costing 99.5 in GW1, and with no changes or auto-subs would now be 219th in the world.

Sorry, I thought you had taken all 15, rather than the 11 with the most points. I took the 11 with the highest Points/GW1 Price ratios.

If you chose Ruddy (114/5.0) instead of Speroni, Lallana (151/6.0) and Lambert (136/7.5) over Bacuna and Livermore, and played 5-2-3 rather than 5-3-2, then that would result in a Total Points / GW1 Team Value of 1798 / 84.5 = 21.3 - not quite as high as your estimate of around 1850 points.

My price rise team may not be quite the best Ghost Team - for a start, another 3.0m is available to spend on players with more points but lower value ratios - but to get to number one in the world probably also requires a few transfers and auto-subs to improve it.

So what would be the most effective way of spending the spare 3.0m to improve my GW1 price-rise based Ghost Squad? How does it compare with the FPL Overall Dream Team, and would that Dream Team have been affordable in GW1?

Total Points, GW1 prices and value ratios for the Overall Dream Team are as follows:
        Cech (130/6.5=20.0), 4.0
        Coleman (150/5.0=30.0), Terry (148/6.0=24.7), Mertesacker (132/5.5=24.0), 4.0, 4.0
        Hazard (196/9.5=20.6), Yaya (196/8.5=23.1), Lallana (151/6.0=25.2), Gerrard (147/9.0=16.3), 4.5
        Suarez (255/11.0=23.2), Sturridge (167/9.0=18.6), Rooney (162/10.5=15.4)
        Captaining Suarez every time, Total points / GW1 Team Value is 2089 / 103.0 = 20.3

This contains only 3 changes compared to my price-rise team (Cech, Terry and Gerrard replacing Szczesny, Fonte and Ramsey) and would be 36th in the world, but is 3.0m over the GW1 budget.

The best Ghost Squad that fits the budget would probably be obtained by taking the FPL Overall Dream Team and just substituting Ramsey for Gerrard. This would give a Total Points / GW1 Team Value ratio of 2055 / 99.5 = 2.07 and would be 219th in the world.

(See also my replies to Jafooli above).

Substituting Rodriguez (138/6.0=23.0) for Rooney is even better than substituting Ramsey for Gerrard. This gives a Total Points / GW1 Team Value ratio of 2065 / 98.5 = 21.0 and would be 132nd in the world.

With Anichebe carrying a hamstring injury their front line is somewhat non existent as well...So for anybody now looking for wild punts....Caulker...Defending against a depleted front line and attacking against a second rate defence...http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/my-stats-tables/view/3832/

DGWs left look decent in defence with the likes of Rafael and Demichelis out there and up front with Rooney, Aguero, Jelly and Benteke. But the midfield is a smorgasbord of average. Hence why I'm looking at the likes of Mutch or Eriksen, who could do more in one game than the likes of Delph, Livermore or Bacuna in 2.

I do. I have 110 points now and 10 players still to feature, so basically a full round still coming and if I would only get 40 points from a full round with Suarez (c) and Studge against Sunderland at home, I would be very disappointed.

City and Arsenal have their fair chances to score 3+ too. But yeah, generally, it's from the Liverpool match that I wait goals to come. So, that given, have you figured a way to sneak more than 3 Pool players to your PlayOn team with still having all the others okay starters?

If Liverpool score really well in the first half I would not be at all surprised (boo!) to see Gerrard come off early. He's on a two ban tightrope and they will certainly want him for MCI & CHE. Alterrnatively, Rogers might say "go out and get a booking tonight". He'd then sit out TOT/whm but he'd be back for the crucial ones above. Any thoughts?

Hadn't thought of that. Have been expecting him to be sure to play full 90 minutes. They could also just tell him to take it easy, but yeah, if they're two up, why not to bench him to be sure he doesn't get that yellow. Worth a thought.

Whose most sure Liverpool midfielder to play 90 minutes? Henderson?

I don't know. Frankly if you're looking for an Arsenal player who performed better than Giroud, you're not finding any, and it would make no sense to drop all first team. Maybe he needs a break though.

He should drop both Ox and Arteta and lineup Källström-Flamini in central midfield.

He has played all the league matches since January 1st. You have to consider that he has played helluvalot this season, and this match is just few days after the last one, so seen that Sanogo actually has been performing when played it would definitely make sense to get some fresh legs upfront for this match and allow Giroud to rest for the weekends City clash. Let's put it this way: if he plays tonight, either they have a very tired striker against City, or they play Sanogo against City.

Bould is to my knowledge responsible for their set pieces zonal marking that is ridiculed time and time again and if so I would definitely not want him to manage my team. It's amazing that Arsenal is able to have the league worst set pieces defence while also being 2nd strongest in air.

If AJ hints at something good, play him, but if he persists his present bad patch, consider Zab.

Non-fantasy related, Azpilicueta is turning into to some full-back, no? Obviously we don't get to see that much from him going forward as he's not really given a license to roam like he was under Benitez + he's on the "wrong" side, but defensively he's doing ever so well.

'Azpilicueta is the kind of player I like a lot. I think a team with 11 Azpilicueta's probably could win the competition because football is not just about the pure talent. Football is also about character and personality and Azpilicueta has all those traces of a winning personality.'

Good quotes! Without getting too caught up in them, he seems to really want it on the field. Good engine, tackling, marking.

Seriously had not heard of him before? I take it that you don't follow much of continental football, then, as he had been a core player for Spain youth internationals in all levels and had made himself quite a name in two different leagues already before joining Chelsea.

Yep, but not amazing by any stretch. He does need to add some attacking threat like Ivan does. Plenty players would look good at full back if the only defended

Why? I mean, it's working pretty decent as is. I think it's mostly how the team is set up, Hazard keeps the width on the left so Azp stays back pretty much all the time. He's pretty quick, so it protects us well against counter-attacks.

He did really well in terms of attacking threat under Benitez, 6 assists or something and he played mostly second half of the season.

Yeah he's doing well, just big room for improvement there. Wouldn't be surprised to see a better LB replacement bought, possibly shifting him back to RB, where his threat is much better

Iva seems to have upped his crossing and creativity this season... mostly before he's just banging in hopeless crosses, but he's a bit more considered now and some of his long-range passes are great. I'd agree though, I think we'll get another LB and create even more competition for places as Cole probably is leaving this summer...

You'd think his chances are better with RVP out, as Mata doesn't "take up" one of the spots on the flanks. For me he's 50/50 to get a cameo, doubt he'll start. Welbeck/Young + Valencia from start I reckon.

I think they'll win, but it might just be my gut hoping that City will lose. Dunno. Underdog status going into huge derbies is sometimes not so bad, less pressure.

there is plenty of pressure on both teams.

I just think Utd team are in a false state of security after wins over 2 very average teams. City are a different matter and will have Kompany, yaya and Fernandinho playing so I cant see Utd gettin much.

What is considered a good (non casual rank)? This is my second season so I am a bit of a noob. Last year i finished at rank 93849.

This year I am currently 18,322

Depends a bit on what you set your aims. I had a decent debut season of top 1%, so I was optimistic (it seems) with aiming for 0.1% this season. Some ways behind, not even top 1% at the moment...

Any chance of Buttner playing again (at the expense of Evra).

Man Utd have a crucial Champions League against Bayern Munich coming up, in which Evra will be ineligible, so perhaps David Moyes is keen to give Buttner some more game-time ahead of the big game.
