Daniel Sturridge and Steven Gerrard grab the goals as Liverpool edge past Sunderland at Anfield. Adam Johnson climbs off the bench to play a part in the visitors’ consolation strike. Nikica Jelavic nets again for Hull, whilst the defensive worries build for West Ham ahead of a tough run of matches:

Sturridge and Gerrard Hog the Anfield Headlines
Whilst Luis Suarez had to make do with no more than a mere assist in last night’s narrow win over Sunderland, Daniel Sturridge and Steven Gerrard grabbed a goal apiece as Brendan Rodgers’ side won for the seventh game in succession. It’s four goals in four now for Gerrard, whose dead-ball abilities came to the fore yet again against Sunderland, with the 9.4-priced midfielder finding the net from a superbly taken free-kick.

Maximum bonus points for both goal scorers will have pleased their owners even further, whilst Gerrard’s growing ownership will also be relieved with his failure to earn a yellow card. The Reds’ skipper, who sits on nine bookings for the season, still has to navigate the next three league matches without picking up another caution – fall foul of the referee’s wrath and he’ll earn a two-match ban.

Sterling’s Appeal Waning
Elsewhere in the Merseysiders midfield, Raheem Sterling was benched for the third game in four since Brendan Rodgers moved to a diamond formation behind Suarez and Sturridge. The youngster had previously started 15 straight league matches from Gameweek 13-27 but has found himself a peripheral figure as Rodgers turns to Philippe Coutinho as his chief creator at the tip of the diamond. With Spurs, City and Chelsea in their next five fixtures, Liverpool’s defensive prospects are somewhat dented and with Sterling looking unlikely to guarantee game time, the Reds’ appeal looks limited to their premium-priced trio for the run-in.

Poyet’s Change of Tactics Leaves Johnson Benched
The wide man’s owners will be worried by a turn of events which saw him omitted from the starting line-up for the first time since Gameweek 20 last night. Gus Poyet’s decision to shift to 3-5-2 in order to stifle the hosts’ attack saw Emanuel Giacherrini handed a rare start, with Johnson afforded just 30 minutes to make a difference at Anfield. Encouragingly, he did just that – emerging from the bench to supply the assist for Ki Sung-Yeung’s consolation and with Sunderland still left with five home games still to follow, the Black Cats boss will be expected to re-install Johnson to his first XI as his side look to go on the offensive.

West Ham’s Resilience Slipping
Last night’s 2-1 win over Hull means the Hammers have failed to produce a clean sheet in the last six. Having been dropped against Stoke two Gameweeks ago for Winston Reid, James Collins, who produced an impressive 36 points between Gameweeks 23-26, was once again handed a start by his manager but the centre-back hobbled off just eight minutes into the game and has now emerged as a doubt for the weekend. Reid is also believed to be a doubt, with reports suggesting he missed last night’s match with a stomach bug. Despite James Chester’s calamitous own goal handing the Hammers a much needed victory, it’s clear that there’s better defensive value lying elsewhere from Upton Park at the moment – with Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs and City still to follow, many will be looking elsewhere for budget backline options.

Jelavic Nets Again
A somewhat fortuitous goal helped the Croatian take his tally to four strikes since arriving at the KC in the winter transfer window. Priced at 6.7, Jelavic squares up to Stoke and Swansea next before a Gameweek 34 blank – following that, Steve Bruce’s side have Fulham and a double Gameweek 37 which may bring their assets back into consideration. The Tigers must do without Allan McGregor for the next two matches, though – he will miss the next couple of league after picking up his second red card of the season last night.

Folks, genuinely stumped for the first time in a while.

    Mannone
    Zaba Coleman Terry
    Yaya Hazard Snodgrass Gerrard
    Lukaku Suarez Sturridge

    Marshall Puncheon Demel Ward

    1) Gerrard > Lallana
    2) Snodgrass > Barkley / Mutch
    3) option 2 with Demel > Fonte (-4)
    4) stick and save FT
    5) other?

I'm worried about not having Lallana and he'll be a season keeper from here. All defenders are away this week and Fonte has a good chance of CS against Newcastle, as does Lallana with attacking points. Snodgrass has awful fixtures from here in, 3 x Liverpool is too much as I want to get some coin for Studge > Aguero in GW34.

The correct advise will get you into the draw to win a signed Tony Pullis sports cap!!

I have similar thoughts with Lallana i am panicking about how to bring him in lol.

i have been (logically) advised to keep gerrard.

why dont you downgrade terry and upgrade snodgras to bring in lallana and say shaw/ distin?

Hey Whits, good to see ya bro!

That is some pretty good advice actually, I'm always loathed to offload a Chelsea defender but Soton have good fixtures and Lallana will be involved!

1 and 2 seem sideways at best - you are selling in form players.

Option 3 - really??? Bringing in a Soton defender? For a hit? Imo Sotonhave nothing to play for and are cruising to their summer hols, therefore switching off and conceding silly goals

Option 4 - yes, that's the one. A spare FT will really come in handy for the next DGW

      Do I win the cap?

Even in real life, Coleman has been great, not many right backs score 6 from open play.

My top 3 of the season would be:

              1 Suarez
              2 Yaya
3 Studge (he's being overshadowed by Suarez but has had an unbelievable season)

5-2-3 or 4-3-3 would have been the best formation at the start of the season when the top defenders and forwards were outscoring all but a couple of the midfielders, but now the best midfielders are outscoring the defenders so 3-4-3 is best.

The best GW for my defence was GW9 when I had Baines 6, Vertonghen 12, Walker 6 and Fonte 7, but unfortunately Coleman 6 stayed on the bench.

    Davies & Nolan -> Mannone & Nasri

    Worth it?

If you need to use the FT then probably Baines for the DGW, or Zabaletta?

On a totally different note here but would you expect Lukaku to return to Chelsea next season or will he be loaned out again? Hard to see them turning him away yet again considering they have no effective strike force. Imagine him on the end of Hazard, Oscar, Shurrle, Matic and co!

Would love to see him stay at Everton however!

I think Chelsea sell him permanently to Everton - then use the funds to bring in Costa or Cavani.

I see them also selling Torres back to Atletico if they bring in Costa from there.

Ba leaves to a bottom-feeder EPL team.

Because they believe they are the best team in the world and they will only sell players they don't want not players that think they are bigger than the club. They are too proud.

Because PSG doesn't need to sell any player and because Cavani is happy at Paris.

PSG owners plan PSG to become one of the 3 biggest club in the world in the next 3/4 years...

Well that would be nice as i'm a United fan.
Actually i was sure that the Mata transfer included Rooney going yo Chelsea this summer but then he signed his new super duper contract.
They will get a really big name and cut loose several of their forwards i think.

I think Etoo will get another 1 yr contract.

Torres to Atletico (YES!!!!!!) and Ba off somewhere too.

I dont think Jose rates Lukaku so if someone bids £25m plus he will sell otherwise I think he will be part of chelsea squad next season. I like Lukaku but he is still very raw and not sure he would suit chelseas system. We need a striker who can hold up the ball for our mids

There will be at least one striker signed, the usual suspects are always named, Cavani, Falcao, Costa etc.

I wouldnt be surprised if we went for another young promising fwd especially if Lukaku goes.

        Hope ur right captain crunch!

and a gw 34 WC would mean i'd get 3 city, plus I already have cahill and haz and plan to keep them. so it'd really just be about getting rvp/rooney and maybe a united defender

TW, saw your defender question above -- I would go Baines for the next 3 gws, but DeMichelis has strong attacking stats as well. Could be a good way to spread the points potential if you don't want to double up.

not too worried about doubling up, especially since everton have a good fixture this gw and good fixtures for their double.

So it turns out I have 0.1 spare to do Jelavic and Cazorla to Lukaku and Nasri before GW34 - seems like fate.

But then is 7 DGWers (including Puncheon) enough? Only 2 City and 2 Everton could be unwise.
    Is City defence must have?

Gerrard to Barkley/Mirallas allows a defence upgrade, like Olsson to Zabaleta which would be very tempting.
Although I would be seriously worried to be without Aguero if he's fully fit by then too.

Who are the DGW34 must haves?
I'd say Yaya and Coleman/Baines are fairly essential, and then build around those, anyone else got any thoughts?
