Andy Carroll grabs a goal and assist as the Hammers notch a sixth win in nine to boost their survival bid. Gus Poyet retains a three-man backline as Adam Johnson climbs off the bench to pick up the points yet again but the winger is unable to prevent Sunderland slipping to yet another loss:

Carroll the Hammers Hero
The big target man turned in a match-winning performance as West Ham took a major step towards safety last night. Having blanked over both home matches in double Gameweek 31, Carroll was sold on by almost 5,000 Fantasy Premier League managers but returned to form by scoring for the second away fixture in succession in a hard-fought 2-1 win on Wearside. The Geordie also provided the assist for Momo Diame’s strike and subsequently earned the maximum bonus points, though with games against Liverpool, Arsenal and City in the last six, the schedule looks tough for the Upton Park outfit. Nonetheless, if Sam Allardyce’s side are to find the net, there’s every chance Carroll will be involved – since his return from injury, he’s scored two and assisted four of the eight goals his side have netted when he’s been on the pitch.

Noble Ticking Over
The midfielder’s assist for Carroll’s opener took him past the 100-point mark as Noble whittles away Kevin Nolan’s lead as the Hammers’ top scoring Fantasy midfielder. Despite Carroll’s return from injury and suspension, Nolan has now drawn blanks in each of the last five – Noble has chipped in with a goal and pair of assists over that run and, with a couple of bonus points also accrued, the 5.2-priced Hammers man moved level with Samir Nasri in the midfield standings and ahead of Santi Cazorla.

Poyet Retains 3-5-2 Formation
The Sunderland manager’s decision to roll out a 3-5-2 system at Anfield last Wednesday was, to an extent, understandable. Certainly, the 2-1 defeat suggested Poyet’s tactics had curtailed Luis Suarez and co, bearing in mind that match is the only time in their last eight that Brendan Rodgers’ side have failed to score at least three goals. A home game against West Ham looked a different proposition altogether but Poyet stuck to his guns and continued with Phil Bardsley at right wing-back, bringing in Marcos Alonso – who missed out through suspension against the Reds – on the opposite side of midfield. The formation also allowed Fabio Borini a rare chance as a centre-forward but, in a similar situation to last week, it was only when Poyet moved to a back-four that his side began to offer any real threat. Last night’s loss was Sunderland’s third in succession – up next, they face Spurs, Everton, City and Chelsea, and unless their manager can arrest their decline, many may be considering avoiding the Black Cats’ assets altogether despite a pair of doubles in their last six Gameweeks.

Johnson Delivers Off the Bench Again
Dropped for last week’s trip to Anfield, the winger’s second-half introduction made an immediate impact as he served up an assist for Ki Sung-Yeung in the 2-1 defeat. Johnson’s omission for last night’s crunch clash was a major shock – compounded once again by his display off the bench as he fired a consolation for the home side. Since the turn of the year, only Daniel Sturridge (11), Luis Suarez (10) Steven Gerrard and Yaya Toure (eight apiece) have scored more times than Johnson’s seven strikes – indeed, with three assists also accrued, the wide man has played a part in 10 of his side’s 14 goals in 2014. Poyet’s decision to drop such a talismanic figure once again is baffling but surely, you’d reckon, if he’s to steer his side to safety, the 6.5-priced Johnson simply has to be handed a recall as Sunderland make their way to White Hart Lane next Monday night.

Not really. Definitely think he'll start vs liv. Will he start SUN? I would think so to get some gametime behind him. Probably a 60 min cameo.

Even 120 mins Kun is probably worth the risk.

    2.2ITB, 2FT:

    A) Dummett->Mariappa, Snodgrass->Nasri - Play 8 dgw-players gw 34 and save a FT.
    B) Dummett->Ward, Snodgrass->Puncheon/Johnson, Sturridge->Aguero/Dzeko, not saving FT.
    C) Other suggestions?

    Team is:

    Mannone
    Baines Ivanovic Coleman
    Yaya Snodgrass Silva Hazard
    Sturridge Lukaku Suárez

    Subs: Boruc Sterling Vlaar Dummett

Not Noone or Ward.. Lukaku likes to score against big teams.. So either Coleman or AJ. I'm going with both Coleman and Baines for attacking returns, and Arsenal don't look very scary going forward at the moment.

      So play all of Everton

    Evening geezers.

The only positive out of this weekend is me scraping past TM by a point (thank you AJ) in the CL, after he looked favorite at the start of yesterday's game. Do I feel bad for him? I probably should but I'm going to go all Mourinho on him and say "the team with the higher desire won the tie"

    1. Save FT this week and play Dann (Keeping the option of getting Kun if needed)

    2. Get Demichelis/Zaba this week for Kosc (Forget Kun)

I could say I'm going to be calm and wait until after the DGW but I'll probably get excited and cripple my season by bringing him in.

15 against Southampton probably means 60 against Pool and 30-60 against Sunderland. I can't work out if that's worth more than 90 for Sturridge against City.

A brain boggler for the analytical mind:

How to make way for Boruc -> Hart in this team? I can't see any way I feel comfortable with, but really think it would be worth it to get him in.

    Boruc / McGregor

    Baines / Ivanovic / MOlsson / Ward / Bardsley

AJ is in that "maybe keep but probably don't buy" category. Mutch is boring and no DGW. Yeah, I see your logic as long as you don't have to play him every GW.

Anyone thinking on punting on Puncheon? 2 starts in a row and a decent attacking threat and a double coming up, although if he's not on pens any more I wouldn't expect explosive returns

I was all set to do exactly that, but had forgotten he's not on pens anymore.

From what I saw against Chelsea, he looked very good tho.

My rival has Suarez Lukaku Rooney. I have Suarez Lukaku Sturridge

In my mind, this increases the likelihood of him getting Aguero (if fit) by 2000%, meaning that it increases my motivation to get Aguero as well, since he's one of those players who could mess things around completely for me. We're neck and neck and I'm fairly confident I can beat him all things being equal, but Aguero could throw everything out the window.

    Does this make any sense?

Yeah? Okay good. Not used to chasing and comparing teams and all that, usually just play for OR and since the level is pretty low in my main ML it's been okay so far, but now it's getting properly fierce and I gotta start thinking about his moves very carefully.

Yeah? Maybe I'm getting too worked up, I dunno. I'm just looking at the diffs between our teams and the only real threat I see is Aguero (c) doing something crazy in GW34 and me not owning him. If I take him in I'll probably not captain, but I'll have him at least. Too defensive?

I think with Aguero though, people are completely missing the fact that you are likely to get him AFTER GW35 anyways. I find it hard to see a scenario where he'll be left alone for 4 GWs where one of them is a double and almost all are grade A fixtures with City going for the title.

I think I'll do Dummett->Mariappa and Snodgrass->Nasri and play with 8dgw-players.. Mariappa reasonable safe?

    Will give me: *=dgw

    Mannone*

    Coleman* Baines* Mariappa*
    Yaya* Silva* Nasri* Hazard
    Lukaku* Suarez Sturridge

    C) AJ OUT Eriksen IN

At the moment I'm leaning towards A because ManC DGW34.
