We cast an eye over the weekend’s matches and analyse the lessons learned in our usual Monday lunchtime regular. A number of midfielders are on the radar as injuries threaten to derail two of the most popular options, whilst we already have one eye on the future as the end-of season form helps forge our targets for next term:

Rodallega’s Goals Could Save the Cottagers….
Back-to-back wins over Villa and Norwich suggest Fulham have the stomach for a scrap. The Cottagers are now just two points from safety, with Felix Magath’s decision to hand the Colombian a first-team recall looking a masterstroke. Rodallega has been here before, helping fire Wigan to safety a couple of seasons ago, and whilst rivals struggle to string together the results, the former Latics hitman has fired the winner in each of the last two. With Hull and Palace yet to visit the Cottage, his experience in scrapping for survival looks vital to the London side and potentially hands Fantasy managers a real cut-price option at just 5.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

Salah Shaping Up to be a Real Differential…
Chelsea’s progress in the Champions League is proving beneficial to the young Egyptian for the run-in. Ineligible for European duties, Salah is the only attacking midfielder to play 90 minutes in each of the last two league games as Jose Mourinho shuffles his pack to fight for silverware on two fronts. The Blues boss is clearly taking no chances with Eden Hazard’s calf complaint, allowing Salah – priced at just 5.5 in FPL and owned by 0.4% – the prospect of further game time ahead of home clashes against Sunderland and Norwich in the next three. Having racked up 14 points in his first start at the Bridge, he looks in line for a bandwagon as we look for midfield alternatives.

Stoke Are a Flourishing Force Under Hughes…
Perhaps it’s force of habit, something left over from the Tony Pulis era. Typically at this time of the season, the Potters are still scrapping to pick up the points that would ensure safety – this time around, Mark Hughes’ side may have already clinched survival but they are showing no signs of letting up. A win over Newcastle took their recent record to five wins and a draw in the last seven – compare that to Southampton and the Magpies, two sides in a similar situation, with three and four losses in the last four respectively, and it’s obvious that Hughes’ side are made of sterner stuff. A single goal conceded in the last four at the Britannia will have Fantasy managers eyeing up Stoke’s defensive assets next term, providing they are priced a little kinder.

Pulis’ Eagles Flying High…
A third successive win brought Palace onto 37 points as Tony Pulis’ side edge closer to a great escape. After their first ten fixtures, the Eagles looked dead and buried – three points and no clean sheets ensured they were far from Fantasy teams but the subsequent turnaround, based on a solid defence, will ensure they are another side on our radars next time around. From Gameweek 11 onwards, Palace are second only to Chelsea for goals against (18) and clean sheets (11) and with just a single goals conceded in the last five, survival now looks a mere formality.

Eriksen Is Playing His Way into Next Season’s Squads…
Under Andre Villas-Boas, the Dane looked a disastrous purchase and delivered just a single assist before Tim Sherwood was installed at the helm back in mid-December. A four-match first-team omission over February and March aside, Eriksen has served up a series of devastating displays for the north London club – seven goals, six assists and 16 bonus points in 14 appearances, or an average of 6.8 points per game (greater than any midfielder over the season) since the new manager took charge highlights his potential. Eriksen started off the season at 8.0 in FPL – a similar price next term will surely see him become a staple in many squads.

Silva Looks the Likely Yaya Solution..
The Ivorian’s owners won’t need to look far for a replacement if he’s ruled out with injury. As City anxiously await news on the groin problem that forced Toure off during yesterday’s defeat at Liverpool, David Silva turned in yet another superb performance in the role in “the hole” to offer the obvious alternative for the run-in. The little Spaniard’s goal and assist in the narrow loss took his tally to three strikes, four assists and 10 bonus points in the last six matches – finally delivering the Fantasy points to back up his underlying statistics. Any period of absence for Toure looks likely to end Silva’s differential appeal – currently sitting in 12% of teams compared to his team-mate’s 47%, he’ll be earmarked as the obvious trade by many ahead of City’s favourable last few Gameweeks.

Saints Need a Rodriguez Alternative…
A home game against struggling Cardiff seemed an easy win for Mauricio Pochettino’s side as they looked to recover from the loss of their top scorer to injury. Whilst David Marshall has to take credit for an inspired display between the posts for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, Rodriguez’ goal threat was clearly an issue for the Saints – despite 68% possession and 19 efforts, they lacked the cutting edge afforded by the former Burnley man. Given that Rodriguez will miss the first few months of next term, Southampton need to go shopping in the summer, as Pochettino looks for a replacement for his 15-goal hero.

Rodgers May Need to Reshuffle…
With Jordan Henderson set for a three-match suspension and Daniel Sturridge forced off due to a hamstring problem, Liverpool’s win over City didn’t come without its problems. The only outfield player to start every game for the Merseysiders this term, Henderson’s loss, whilst crucial, could be lessened by the introduction of Joe Allen or Lucas to the centre of midfield. If Sturridge is also ruled out, though, Brendan Rodgers faces a real dilemma – by retaining the midfield diamond, he would need to find a partner for Luis Suarez up front, whilst a switch to 4-3-3, with Philippe Coutinho remaining deeper, could bring another wide man into contention. Iago Aspas and Victor Moses have been peripheral figures up until now, but depending on Sturridge’s prognosis, they may yet have a part to play.

I'm not too sure about his minutes, could share them with Chica. He's less interesting than Rooney as well since he's got no set-pieces... Lukaku on the other hand has proven to be good versus the big teams.

Ok so it all boils down to this..

Feels like I've been trying to make this one decision for the last few weeks and my hesitation meant I stayed with AJ when I should have shipped weeks ago.

For the rest of the season, who would you rather have:

    A) Eriksen -- (FUL, sto, whu, AVL)

    B) Ramsey -- (hul, NEW, WBA, nor)

I think both options are better than Kagawa, Lallana, AJ or Sterling.

    A or B guys? Please? 😀

But Eriksen has gotten those points against easier teams than Stoke and West Ham away.. Do you think he'll continue to have this good form?

Bear in mind his last two goals were A) deflected and B) last gasp in the 90th minute..

I wouldn't expect a goal a game.. But Fulham at home looks delicious..

I don't agree, AJ is against Chelsea this week, Eriksen has Fulham at home..

Eriksen could outscore AJ by 8 points in that match alone, and I don't trust AJ to score consistently again with Sunderland probably (and justifiably) being relegated.

This GW is definitely in Fulham's favor, but there are 3 more GWs after. In those 3, Eriksen has 1 home game and 2 away games, AJ has 3 good home fixtures and 1 tough away fixture. Sunderland are fighting to stay up, Tottenham are pretty much mired midtable.

My 2 cents anyways, I'm an Eriksen owner and I wouldn't bet points that he'll be in the points versus a relegation battling Fulham.

He also returned a total of 10 points in the previous 5 games before City.

He's playing well, but he won't return that many points imo.

+1 , it's just that if Yaya out we seem to be a week early for Ramsey / Ozil / mata , and I'm not sure if I want Nasri ( Prefer Zab/Kompany as 3rd city )
Not sure what to do tbh - any ideas (mids above) IM ?

Can you afford Gerrard? Seems the perfect replacement for Yaya..

If you want to go cheaper I'd take a punt on Ramsey, he's a good player with easy fixtures and he'll be expected to help get the team back on form, seeing as you already have Eriksen..

Nasri is a good shout too, he showed last week that he can match Silva/Yaya at times.

If I were you I'd get Gerrard, but that's putting a lot of faith in Liverpool to overcome the next 3 fixtures.

Cheers man , money no object ,
I'd ultimately like to go Hazzard but he's dead to me now ,
Your right it's between SG and Ramsey ,
I'll see how arsenal do V Wham and if I like I may just get Rambo , tho is 3 games in a week a lot to ask a returning player to play ?

This says something about Ramsey having "Muscle Tightness"..

              http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/20140414/team-news-who-s-fit-to-face-west-ham-

Probably just stiff after his first game back in ages, I wouldn't expect him to get 90 vs West Ham but he'd be back in for the next week.

I'd say just wait until the rest of the matches have been played and see what happens 🙂

            Ramsey / Ozil

I can get mata by ditching Lalana fwiw

Ozil is way overpriced. Ramsey an injury doubt and no idea what form he is in.

SG is an interesting pick IMO, keeps scoring. Sterling is good as well, depending on what you need the money for.

Buuuuut, Nasri's extra games and better fixtures means I'd pick him every time.

    Fellow fantasy football friends,
I would like to apologize to everyone effected for being responsible for Yaya Toure's injury. I made the terrible mistake of bringing him into my team for the very first time this season, and we all know that if I hadn't done that, Yaya would have played the full 90 minutes and given a penalty just before Agüero came on.

My apologies also go to Yaya Toure personally, for perhaps missing the rest of the season because of my mistake.

I would also like to apologize to Daniel Sturridge and Sturridge owners for the dry spell lately and now the injury. I have had him in my team the last four GW's, so three blanks and a hamstring injury came as no surprise.

I haven't decided on who's season to ruin yet, but either Mata/Gerrard and/or Agüero/Adebayor might be in trouble. The good news for Agüero owners is that he will be fine for at least the Sunderland game. It's not until I bring him in for the WBA game things will go bad.

I agree on many many things that you write on these parts Dogba, you always give great advice 🙂 I just like to try and find alternatives and I like to play devil's advocate to see if people can convince me about a player's prospects 😉

Haha I already have Nasri as well 😀 I have high hopes for him too!

This Yaya injury just made up my mind of which City mid to ditch for Aguero 🙂

Gerrard not getting a yellow card helps too 😎

Yeah, you definitely get some good discussions going and sometimes I need exactly that, expanding my viewpoint a little outside of the obvious safe picks 😉

Aguero in for WBA, now that's nice. I've got my (c) on him currently actually. LFC without Hendo, playing away? Meh.

Currently on Aguero. Suarez is off the boil a little and I can see this as a chance to really shake things up, especially as my rival doesn't have Aguero at all!

Suarez did get 4 goals and an assist in the "first leg" vs Norwich though, he loves playing against them for some reason.

Yeah, but not sure how much that will factor into things. Granted he does have 3 or so great games against Norwich, but... I don't know, I just have a feeling LFC will struggle without Hendo and being away to a Norwich fighting for their lives.

Suarez is obviously the smart and safe choice, so this would be a rare punt for me 😛

I can see Liverpool struggling too but if there's anyone that could take it by the back of the neck and win the game by himself, its Suarez.

...I'm leaning towards Aguero too though, depends how he does midweek.

Bad news for Rooney's FPL run-in... more likely to be spared if RVP plays, even if Rooney plays together with him he's a worse option as he's got no pens or spearhead role.

I've got a defense of Baines Azp Ward Dann Chester. With Palace's form and me playing 3 at the back every week, I'm tempted to only ditch Baines out of those 5 for a United defender.

Any more (and probably Baines too) would be for hits, and there's not much to pick from in the budget department. Palace got great form as well and Chester has a DGW in 37, albeit a bad one.

Azp Ward Dann Chester are season keepers from now on I'd say. Nobody else is worth taking a hit to replace them with.

Baines -> MUN defender is all you need 🙂

Unless you want to put more money into the defence and upgrade, but that's not necessary.

Yeah, I mean asides from Azp it's not that they're such great picks, just not much else worth taking a hit for... maybe I'll look at it if I get a spare FT/cash.

If Rooney is ruled out, I might be investing as I have cash for me him laying around with the Baines downgrade. So yeah, might be an option, in that case doubling on United 🙂

Keep an eye on City and Arsenal's defensive form too though, they have potential to score well 🙂

Agreed, you'll have bigger priorities probably over the next few weeks in terms of transfers, but if you get a free one or if you like the look of some defender enough for a hit, go for it 🙂

No rush though, the players you already have will serve you well enough.

Yep same situation, keeping for United anyway, seeing where it leads from there.

I'm in no rush to ship Lukaku as he tends to do well in tough fixtures and I think people will be hurt from selling him, but if Everton don't look great vs United, or if any alternative strikers (Rooney / Hernandez / Giroud / Ade) start to do really well then it'll be a simple enough switch.
